Superb story, painful acting
Although a low-budget production with some horrible acting, the plot and story was brilliant.
The movie has nothing to do with monsters or traditional horror elements. Don’t want to spoil the story.

It’s a good movie
It’s disturbing and ambient.
Refreshingly different for a horror movie. How funny are the cynical reviews for this film. You can just taste the misery from these sorts of reviewers. Their lives must be so much worse than the movie that it makes them feel even worse about themselves. This is a good movie.

«The Evil Within», or a methamphetamine millionaire’s dream project
In 2002, Andrew Getty decided to make a horror film based on his own nightmares.
He had no experience in the film industry, but he had money (from $4 to $6 million) that he spent on the production of the film «The Evil Within» . The amateur cinematographer worked on a dream project until his death in 2015 and almost completed the film: it only remained to complete the editing and color grading. Getty died at the age of 47 from gastrointestinal bleeding caused by an ulcer, plus a large amount of methamphetamine was found in his blood. Now his film is finally being released on VOD and DVD, and many Western publications are paying attention to this unusual story about a mentally handicapped boy who dreams of a demonic creature, forcing him to kill people and collect their bodies in his basement.

Frederic Kohler (Death Race trilogy ), assigned to play the lead in Evil Within, admits to playing Getty himself:
When we discussed the script, Andrew often said that the content appeared to him in his own dreams.
He fought the demons in his head.
Kohler started acting in films after graduating from college and is now 41 years old. Filming went on with long pauses and stretched over five years: Getty worked on every frame and element of film language, insisting on creating his own rigs for the camera and building complex animatronics (for example, in a scene with an octopus playing drums). According to Kohler, only himself and the legend of horror Michael Berryman ( «The Hills Have Eyes» , 1977) remained on the project throughout production. The film also starred Sean Patrick Flanery ( The Boondock Saints , 1999), Dina Meyer ( Saw: The Game of Survival , 2004), Francis Guinan ( Lord of the Constant , 2005) and Kim Darby ( «Real Courage» (1969), «Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers» , 1995).
