Hey, it’s been a while! We haven’t updated this old-ass article for ages because… well, there wasn’t much to report. Now we’re back, and the occasion couldn’t be worse: it looks like a potential Red Dead Redemption remaster was actually scrapped by Rockstar. Damn…

According to a 4Chan post, the Read Dead Redemption Remaster will release in the second quarter of 2023. It’s going to use the graphics and some mechanics of RDR2, the RDR1 versions of the WE & NA maps will be merged with the RDR2 version and lastly, everything will stay the same (story wise) except that some dialogue will now feature Arthur – which makes a lot of sense.

It’s 4Chan, so as always, take this with your usual pinches of salt, guys, but everything above would definitely make sense. Let’s see if we will soon get some official news on this.

We wrote about it time, and time, and time again, because that’s just how much we love Red Dead Redemption, and now here we are: Our first confirmation that the Red Dead Redemption remaster is coming. Who, what, when, and where? Well…: Chris from Rockstar Mag, inside leak, today and the where: France. Yes, I’m linking you to the article here, but unless tu parles francais, tu ne vas comprendere rien. Non, rien de rien.

So, what’s the leak about? Well, it’s mainly about GTA 6 about to turn into a clusterf*ck, but, on a sidenote, the leaker mentions the little – here paraphrased – tidbit that, yes, «the Red Dead Redemption remaster is already in development.» According to our French colleagues over at Rockstar Mag, this remaster will get the same treatment as the GTA Trilogy remaster, meaning: Enhanced textures, enhanced looks, enhanced everything, but not re-inventing the wheel. Doesn’t matter, because Red Dead Redemption is one of the greatest games ever, and any incentive to jump back into it is worthwhile.

There is no release date for when we will get this remastered classic, but seemingly, it will be due before the release of GTA 6. Of course, this also means that we can’t expect any additions to Red Dead Redemption 2 or a Red Dead Redemption 3 anytime soon. Still, if you’re looking for a reason to jump back into Red Dead Redemption 2, and you’re gaming on PC, then you should jump into the Mexico expansion or the Undead Nightmare mod that some talented fans of the game have been working on.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was a big success last generation. Released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, it wasn’t as successful as Grand Theft Auto V, but Rockstar Games witnessed 38 million sales. Given this strong performance, it’s left many wondering whether the original Red Dead Redemption will see a modern re-release.

Rockstar Games aren’t strangers to remasters, having previously tacked the recent Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition, though that saw mixed reception. We’ve seen a few rumours that Red Dead Redemption’s next, so here’s what we know.

Red Dead Redemption Remaster — Latest News

According to insider AccountNGT, Rockstar Games is likely to announce a remaster for the original Red Dead Redemption this year. That’d come alongside a PS5 patch for Red Dead Redemption 2. However, AccountNGT doesn’t believe a 2022 release is likely, even if an announcement is.

At this time, this all means unconfirmed by Rockstar Games, so we’ll have to wait for an official announcement.

Red Dead Redemption Remaster — Platforms

Following the logic of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition’s release, we’d expect to see a Red Dead Redemption Remaster on PC and all major consoles.

AccountNGT specifically mentions a PS5 release, though we’d bet on it also coming to PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Considering Trilogy also came to iOS and Android, a mobile port’s also on the cards.

Red Dead Redemption Remaster — Release Date

Considering Red Dead Redemption Remaster isn’t officially confirmed, you won’t be surprised to learn that there’s no release date yet. AccountNGT believes that while it’ll be unveiled this year, the remaster won’t actually see a 2023 release, so we’ll have to wait for official details.

Can I Play Red Dead Redemption On Current Consoles?

Yes, you can. While it’s completely skipped Nintendo Switch so far, Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare are currently playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility. As for PlayStation, you can play it via PS Now on PS4, PS5 and PC, but because PS3 aren’t natively supported, that’s only available through cloud streaming.

According to French journalist Chris Klippel , Rockstar Games is indeed porting Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 to modern consoles. Both projects are allegedly in development since the last months of 2020 .

Klippel’s sources claim that Rockstar Games was originally going to announce Red Dead Redemption II faster for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S , but revised plans due to the desire to release a remaster of Red Dead Redemption also .

It is not yet known exactly when the new versions of Westerns will be released, but they will definitely not be sold as part of a collection called Red Dead Redemption: Outlaws Collection , claims Klippel. The name Outlaws Collection has been on the web before.

From less reliable sources, the journalist heard that the Red Dead Redemption remaster will be released not only on consoles, but also on PC . But here it is worth waiting for the official announcement to confirm. The original 2010 release skipped personal computers.

As of March 31, 2022, Red Dead Redemption II has sold 44 million copies . Fans are unhappy with the support of Red Dead Online , but Rockstar Games promises not to abandon the multiplayer component.

Sony unveiled PS Plus upgraded games — Red Dead Redemption 2, Spider-Man, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and more In Europe, it will become available on June 23, and in Russia on June 22 (it is questionable due to sanctions).

Subscription levels

  • PlayStation Plus Essential is the basic plan that is the same as the current PS Plus variant. 60 euros per year.
