Nintendogs is a real-time pet simulation game that was released in a number of versions, mostly named for the starter breed (similarly to Pokémon). Dachshund, Lab/Shiba, and Chihuahua were the first to be released, with Best Friends and Dalmatian added later on.

To do:
Still a lot to cover.

  • A demo version exists, with an early English translation.
  • Internal material from the iQue localization process in the 2020-09-09 Nintendo leaks.
  • There’s a lot of ambience music sequences. Which ones are unused? Also, SSEQ_0128 appears to be an unused item sound.
  • There appears to be code for debugging features. Try to find out how to enable them if possible.
  • Unused sounds, such as frog croaking?

Removed Breeds

German press kit, February 2005

Although the game unsurprisingly features a lot of different dog breeds and variations, some didn’t make the final cut. They all use the early Beagle breed files as a placeholder.

Papillon and Maltese

Papillon modded into the kennel.

The developers left two more toy breeds in the files, Papillon (パピヨン) and Maltese (マルチーズ). They are completely unfinished, hence they use the aforementioned placeholder files. Both breeds have data for two variants. Like in real life, they need long hair shampoo. Their file identifiers are pap and mcz, respectively and they occupy the IDs $000F and $0010. The names haven’t been localized and the French and Spanish localizations leave their names blank. Furthermore, their item attributes have been removed, meaning that they cannot be unlocked in the kennel. Maltese dogs were added in Nintendogs + Cats, but Papillon dogs still remain unreleased.

Golden Retriever

Even though golden retrievers were introduced in localized releases, unfinished data for it can be found in Japanese games. Like the two unreleased breeds described above, it uses placeholder data. Interestingly, there’s no file for a third variant (Glc_c).

Alternate Variants

Excluding the unused breeds, there are at least three variants available for all dog breeds. However, placeholder data for several more variants exist. There would have been one more variant for Chihuahuas (Chi_e), toy poodles (Pdl_d), and shiba inus (Sib_d), and two more variants for miniature dachshunds (Mdf_d and Mdf_e).

Unused Music

SSEQ_0033 (

$21)

Attempting to play it crashes the game because the soundbank and samples for it are missing. When played in a MIDI editor, it’s revealed to be an arrangement of Valkyrie’s Violation, by classical composer Wagner. It was likely intended to be used on one of the Records, considering the others play renditions of famous classical music.

SSEQ_0037 (

$25)

An alternate rendition of the friendly dog theme without the intro, implying it was supposed to be used as a «regular theme» when meeting friendly dogs on walk.

SSEQ_0052 (

$34)

A variation of the curious dog theme with a slightly tense intro. How it was meant to be used remains a mystery, though.

Unused Agility Competition Data

There exists some unused content specifically for agility competitions.

Unused Tunnel Object

Although various rotated tunnel obstacles are used during agility competitions, this specific variant is never used, rendering its Top Screen icon unused as well.

Unseen Training Obstacle Sequences

The player’s dog can exercise in the local gymnasium to train for agility competitions. Here, there’s no time limit or actual sequence the dog has to go through. Nevertheless, an actual sequence is configured, which is never used or seen in-game. The unused time limit for these is 99 seconds.

Very True Important Tip

Everybody says that if you press a,b,x,y,l & r then it will delete your game. yes, it will, if you press them all at the same time. if you press them one at a time it won’t. but that ‘have puppies’ cheat doen’t work. also, you will know if it has deleted your game or not. if you press them all at the same time, then a message should pop up. it will say:
‘Do you want to delete your data?’
then if you touch yes, it will say:
‘Are you really sure you want to delete your data?’
if you touch yes again, it will do the thing that it does when its saving, just it will say
‘deleting data…’
if you touch yes the first time, it won’t delete your data strait away. then if you touch no either time, it won’t delete your data.

THNX

Charity Man

Sometimes when you are at home a charity man comes in to your house. he will ask you things like would you like to hear the story of tom the spaniel and stuff and then you are allowed to donate for that animal. (the storys are so sad believe me)

A Tip About The «Talking Bird»

Sometimes you can find a talking bird in the discount shop. If you take it out and press the button, you can speak into the microphone to say a message to your dog(s). Most will bark at it, as if they are scared, but some dogs will actually play with it. Note: The parrot will repeat your recorded message very fast, so say it slowly.

Simple Hints And Tips

you get home (whether or not you won 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place) give your dog a few treats. This will maThese tips are probably obvious to regular Nintendogs players. But new players might not know them.

Right before a contest…

Obedience:
1. Pet your dog and train it with as many tricks as you can. Remember to train him/her with the required tricks for that level of competition before getting into advanced tricks.
2. Give your dog natural food (not canned or regular food) and give your dog milk.
3. Then, wash your dog with the CORRECT SHAMPOO. [Go to the main menu and click on your dog’s name to find out what type of hair they have: short or long.]
4. Next, brush your dog with the CORRECT BRUSH. The rubber brush is for short haired dogs, and the wire brush is for long haired dogs. After this, it should say that your dog is beautiful and feeling very good.
5. To raise its confidence, pet your dog and train it with each trick that he/she knows.
6. Now, put a lucky collar on your dog (this is optional, for not everyone has this item) and bring him/her to the competition. Your dog should do very well and win 1st place if you have trained him/her correctly. Also, make sure not to discipline your dog if he/she gets something wrong. Yelling or hitting your dog will only bring DOWN its confidence and make it angry with you. When you get home (whether or not you won 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place) give your dog a few treats. This will make your dog love you, and your dog will be happy.

Agility:
1. Take your dog to the Gymnasium to practice for agility competitions. The more you practice, the more confident your dog will be, and the more likely he/she will win.
2. Repeat steps 2 through 4 of the Obedience tips.
3. Pet your dog. Rub its belly and its ears. This will raise its confidence and your dog will love you. :]
4. Put a green or purple pearl ribbon on your dog for good luck on jumps. (This is optional, for not everyone has these items.)
5. Take your dog to the competition and hope for the best. Also, make sure not to discipline your dog if he/she gets something wrong. Yelling or hitting your dog will only bring DOWN its confidence and make it angry with you. When ke your dog love you, and your dog will be happy.

Disc:
1. Take your dog to the Park to practice for disc competitions. The more you practice, the more confident your dog will be, and the more likely he/she will win.
2. Repeat steps 2 through 4 of the Obedience tips.
3. Pet your dog. Rub its belly and its ears. This will raise its confidence and your dog will love you. :]
4. Put on the lucky collar or the green or purple ribbon. Both are lucky. (This is optional, for not everyone has these items.)
5. Take your dog to the competition and hope for the best. Also, make sure not to discipline your dog if he/she gets something wrong. Yelling or hitting your dog will only bring DOWN its confidence and make it angry with you. When you get home (whether or not you won 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place) give your dog a few treats. This will make your dog love you, and your dog will be happy.

Other tips:

If you want extra trainer points…
1. Feed your dogs every time they’re hungry.
2. Give your dogs water every time they’re thirsty.
3. Wash your dogs once each day, whether they’re dirty or not.
4. Brush your dog RIGHT AFTER you bathe them, this will make them EXTRA beautiful. :]
5. Play with your dogs everyday. This could mean throwing a ball or disc and throwing it again when they bring it back, or simply leaving them with a soccer ball, tennis ball, etc.
6. If you plan on leaving your dog alone with a toy, leave it with other dogs.
7. Leave your DS on its charger and leave the brush on your dog’s belly (make sure NOT to bathe it before, otherwise it will stop brushing it and tell you your dog is beautiful. ) You can leave the brush there overnight as long as it’s on the charger. For each real time minute the brush is there, you earn one trainer point. Therefore, when you wake up, you will have tons of trainer points.

Right before a walk:
1. Feed your dog natural food (not canned or regular.)
2. Give him/her milk to drink.
3. Wash your dog with the correct shampoo (long haired or short haired).
4. Brush your dog with the correct brush (rubber brushes are for short haired dogs and wire brushes are for long haired dogs).
5. Pet your dog. Rub his/her belly and ears.
6. (Optional) Put the lucky collar or purple or green pearl ribbon on your dog. Also, take out the clover clock. Play the Flower Waltz record before leaving for a walk.
5. Go on your walk and you will have more of a chance of getting extra/rare items such as: Jack Russell Book, Weird Alien, Gold Bar, RC Helicopter, Combat Helicopter, Records, Meteorite, Asteroid, Pair of deer antlers, Santa hat, Life Ring, Broken Clock, Smart Clock, Wall Clock, Clover Clock, Pearl Necklace, Pizza Disc, Mario Kart, Peach Kart, Bowser Kart, etc. )

When you enter an obedience competition, there’s a Free Performance at the end. Here are some advanced tricks that will help you get extra points on this competitions, and will give you extra trainer points for teaching them to your dog.

Laying Jump: Get your dog to lie down on his back. Don’t pet him just yet. While on his back, command him to jump. If he is healthy and well-fed, he’ll jump from this position! Sometimes your puppy won’t be in the mood to do this trick and will simply stand before jumping. If he does it correctly, touch the training icon and say «laying jump».

Back Flip: This trick is similar to the laying jump but is performed from the sitting position. Have your puppy sit, then immediately tell her to jump. If she’s in a good mood, she will turn a flip from a seated position. Quickly touch the training icon and say «back flip».

Handstand: Have your dog lie down, and then tell him to stand (beg). It sounds confusing, but he will understand that you want him to stand on his front paws! It’s more difficult, but you can also slide the stylus down and up quickly when your puppy is in a playful mood (if he shakes his butt) to perform this trick. Tap that training icon and say «handstand», you’ll definitely want to repeat this trick! This trick also works the same as beg in the obedience competition. (Sometimes, your dog will do the handstand trick rather than beg just to impress the judges.) :]

Spin/Turn: Tell your dog to stand (beg), then make him chase his tail (spin). If it works right he’ll run around in a circle on his back two paws. Touch the training icon and say «turn» to start learning the trick. This trick also works the same as spin in the obedience competition. (Sometimes, your dog will do the turn trick rather than spin just to impress the judges.) :]

Dance: Tell your dog to stand (beg). Take one of your puppy’s paws and motion upwards with it. Help him up and he’ll eventually stand on his hind legs unsteadily, giving the illusion of dancing.

Bunny Hop: Tell your puppy to stand, and then tell your puppy to jump. If it works, he’ll hop around like a bunny!

Break Dance: Have your puppy roll onto his back, and then tell him to chase his tail. He’ll try to do it and end up spinning on his back! Tap your training icon and loudly proclaim «break dance!»

Sneeze: Not as much an advanced trick as an interesting one, touch your dog’s nose at any time to make him or her sneeze. Then, touch the training icon and say «sneeze». Don’t worry; your puppy won’t get sick.

Wag: The excited butt wagging puppies do when they’re ready to play can also be taught as a trick. Simply touch the training icon while your puppy is in this mood and say something like «wag» or «butt».

Howl: Sometimes a dog will bark outside of your house, causing your pup to start howling. Catch the training icon quickly and you can teach your dog to howl!

Extra Tip:
~ Do you ever hear a firetruck siren that makes your dogs bark like crazy? This is probably some sort of signal… When you hear this, quickly go on a walk (try to wash your dogs, brush them, feed them, water them, etc. early in the day that way they’re ready for their walk.) When you’re walking, try to hit as many ? marks as possible. Also, watch the top screen. If you see the little dog on the top stop walking, jerk your dog’s leash. This is an indication of garbage or a present. Hopefully it’s a present. The firetruck siren before your walk is a hint that you might find the fire hat and get dalmatians when you get home! :]

Tips for Beginners and more Experienced Players

Dogs:

(For beginners. Read the personality of each dog before getting it. This and the way you reaise it will afeect how it grows up.

(For the more experienced). There are some more difficult tricks you can teach dogs. These
include:

Laying Jump: Get your dog to lay down on his back. Don’t pet him just yet. While on his back, command him to jump. If he is healthy and well-fed, he’ll jump from this position! Sometimes your puppy won’t be in the mood to do this trick and will simply stand before jumping. If he does it correctly, touch the training icon and say «laying jump».

Handstand: Have your dog lay down, then tell him to stand.

Walks:

(For beginners). When on a walk, go through as many ? boxes as you can. Some have presents, which can be sold to make money, and some have DS characters who are also walking their dogs. They will give you helpful hints with the game.

(For the more experienced). Need more good presents like the Jack Russell Book? There are no guarantees, but try this:
1. Press the Go Out button.
2. Go to Info.
3. Go to Trainer Info.
4. Go to Birthady. Set it as the date today.
5. Where a Lucky Collar and Four Leaf Clover Clock if you’ve got them and go on a walk. This way you have a 50% more chance of getting valuable items.

12 Nintendogs Tips

Here’s a quick run-down of things I’ve learned about Nintendogs over the past few months.

  1. Puppies can only learn up to 14 voice commands so choose ‘em wisely
  2. Make sure your puppy is happy before he goes for a walk – he’ll find more good items
  3. Double-tapping on the screen will call all your puppies. Essential for commuter Nintendogging!
  4. The hunger-measurement thing pauses when they’re on a walk, so leaving it in sleep mode during a walk can save your butt if you won’t have time to feed your puppy for a day or two. Keep your DS charged though! (I haven’t tried this with multiple puppies. Let me know if it still works!)
  5. Long voice commands are more easily recognised than short ones
  6. Puppies won’t learn a command over time. I told my puppy to jump once a day for a week and got nothing. 5 times in one day and he got it.
  7. Check both shops whenever you go on a long walk. Sometimes they get in cool stuff like a keyboard or balloons or doggie treats when you have happy puppies!
  8. Puppies and balloons do not last long together. They’re pretty funny though.
  9. On long walks, yank your puppy’s leash to the right edge of the screen and hold it there. He’ll run along at a speedy pace to his next interesting point (or choke and whine, but just keep doing it and give him some lovin’ afterwards). Yank it to the top-right corner and he’ll jump like he’s hurdling! Pointless but cute.
  10. If you want to win at championship level, you better practice every day.
    • Disc competitions: Use the same disc every time, throw it far and throw it straight ahead. That’s all you need to know.
    • Agility trials: Just practice and be ruthless if your puppy does his little heartbreaking unhappy tail-down thing. Tough love works best and that little bugger knows exactly how cute he is.
    • Obedience trials: I don’t know, sorry. I suck at these.
  11. Lots of puppies means lots of food. 2 puppies will eat 2 bowls of food at a time.
  12. Lots of puppies also means lots of lovin’. You better have a lot of spare time if you want three championship puppies!

BTW, where are all the Nintendogs?? I’ve been walking all over London in Bark Mode, haven’t met another Nintendo DS in bark mode! No sausage-dog or rat-dog for me… Oh well, no great loss.

Also, what is up with the dictionary box? What’s that supposed to be? “Clicka-clicka-clicka-clicka-CLONK!” Huh?

Antagonist Muscle Training — Bear Paw Blog

Today you train your back, tomorrow your legs, and a couple of days later your chest. It would seem that a strict training plan has been drawn up and such a program is the only sure way to gain muscle mass. However, over time, our muscles adapt to this order. And what is the most important thing in mass training? That’s right, stress. Muscles need to be under stress in order for them to have a reason to grow. Hence the need for diversity.

Antagonist muscle training

All the muscles in our body are divided into two types: agonists and antagonists. If, for example, we train the triceps and chest, then in this case our exercises are aimed at the growth of the agonist muscles. Triceps and chest in this case help us to straighten our arms in the elbow joints. On another day, we can train the biceps, whose function is to bend the arm at the elbow joint. So we train each muscle group separately on different days during the week.

But what happens if you train, for example, biceps and triceps on the same day? Antagonist muscle training has two significant advantages over a traditional linear program:

  • First, muscles recover faster between sets;
  • Secondly, the process of supplying the muscles with nutrients is much better.

Scientists have long noticed that the so-called active recovery is more profitable than passive. In other words, during a heavy set on one muscle group, the other receives little stimulation, which leads to its readiness for a new set. It turns out that during the training you can do a much larger amount of work.

After you have completed the set, for example, on the biceps, the blood begins to gradually drain from the muscle. However, when training the muscles of the antagonists, although in a mild form, the stimulation of one muscle continues, while we train the other. It turns out that there is a simultaneous rest and at the same time, the supply of nutrients.

Antagonist Muscle Training Chart

A sample Antagonist Muscle Training Plan can be drawn up as follows:

  • First day: Chest — Back
  • Second day: Rest
  • Third day: Biceps — Triceps
  • Fourth day: Rest
  • Fifth day: Legs (quadriceps and hamstrings).
  • Sixth day: Rest
  • Seventh day: Rest

The days of the week can be divided into different ways. It all depends on your preferences, as well as the mode of the day. It is better to make sure that there is time for recovery and a productive workout.

The process of training and rest between sets

The process of training antagonist muscles is not much different from a linear program. Here it is also important to remember how important it is to prepare the body before the lesson itself. To do this, you need to warm up properly. As «assistants» you can use Band4power or Supreme Athletics rubber loops. They are just designed for warming up, but they can also be used during the workout itself. They perfectly complement the usual exercises, making the training even more effective.

As for the rest between sets, there are certain nuances that need to be remembered. First of all, rest between sets for large muscle groups (chest, back, legs) should be approximately 60 seconds. For example, they did a bench press, rested for 60 seconds and began to do pull-ups. Rest between sets for small muscle groups should be approximately 30 seconds. This applies to biceps, triceps, shoulders, etc.

However, here everything is individual. You need to listen to your body and do exactly what suits you. At first, it may seem that such training is too complicated. Well, how can you train your chest and back on the same day? You need to start small. Do not immediately load the antagonist muscles with a large amount of work. So there is a risk of injury.

Use a variety of training accessories. For example, the HandYoga simulator, which develops the extensors of the fingers. This is a really important tool because it helps us prepare for tough workouts, have a strong grip and avoid injury.

Dogs are usually presented in video games as loyal and unwavering companions. Their role is usually to go on a journey with the game’s protagonist, but that’s not the only purpose they serve. The dog’s presence often gives the player a brief moment of normalcy in the otherworldly experience.
