Gameplay[edit]

Arbalest acts like a handheld railgun in that it deals high damage and is particularly effective against Absorption shields, however it also has a low rate of fire and reload speed. It also has intrinsic anti-barrier properties, allowing the destruction of barrier champion shields without an appropriate seasonal mod.

  • Compounding Force: Fires slugs that cause massive damage to elemental shields of enemy combatants. Strong against Barrier Champions.
  • Extended Barrel: Weighty barrel extension. Increases range. Decreases handling speed. Moderately controls recoil.
  • Projection Fuse: Distance optimizations. Increases range.
  • Disruption Break: Breaking an enemy’s shield with this weapon makes them more vulnerable to Kinetic damage for a brief period.
  • Composite Stock: This weapon has a versatile dual-purpose stock. Slightly increases stability. Slightly increases handling speed.

Catalyst[edit]

The catalyst for Arbalest has a chance to randomly drop from playlist activities (Strikes, Nightfalls, Gambit and the Crucible).

The catalyst requires 500 enemies to be killed using Arbalest. Once completed, it will grant an additional perk and two other bonuses:

  • Genesis — Breaking a combatant’s shield with this weapon fills its magazine from reserves. Energy weapons regenerate ammo on hit when matching the damage type to the combatant’s shield.
  • Increases magazine size by 1
  • +20 handling

«And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going.«

Q: What does «random rolls» mean?

A: This item is capable of rolling with random perks when it drops.
For example, every time you get a Better Devils from Shaxx, it has the potential to be a slightly different version than others before it — maybe better, maybe worse.

Q: Why are there some perks inside of a dashed box and some outside?

A: The dashed boxes contain the perks that Bungie’s API says are possibilities in each column when the item drops.

Q: What about the stuff outside of those boxes?

A: The perks outside of the boxes are a fixed, «curated» roll from Bungie. Sometimes, that fixed version of the item will drop fully masterworked
(see Nation of Beasts or Vouchsafe for examples). Other times, those perks are just for display, such as when you preview an item from your collection.

Q: Do the two sets of perks ever cross over? Can I get a Vouchsafe with double Dragonfly?

A: If the item is capable of randomly rolling one of its fixed-roll perks, it will be included in the random rolls section as well.

Q: What do you mean by «sunsetting»?

A: Bungie has announced that beginning in Season 12, weapons will have a cap on the power to which you are able to infuse them. We’re calling this process «sunsetting».

Q: How often does this happen?

A: There will be one large sunset beginning in Season 12, in which all* legendary weapons and armor from Seasons 1-8 will be retired. After that, weapons and armor will essentially be sunset 1 year after their release.

Q: Are there any exceptions?

A: Yes. Bungie has stated that exotics will not sunset. Beyond that, gear from the Last Wish and Garden of Salvation raids will play by different rules than standard armor and weapons, though Bungie has not been fully clear on what those rules will be.

Q: So I can never use my Mountaintop / Luna’s Howl / etc again?

A: Not exactly. This change essentially only matters in activities where power matters, such as raids, Nightfalls, Trials, etc. In most open world activities and standard Crucible playlists, you will still be able to use whatever armor/weapons you want.

Furthermore, Bungie has also hinted that they intend to «re-issue» certain weapons/armor in the future, thus giving them another 12 months in the sun.

You can read the explanation directly from Bungie here.

Q: What are masterwork rolls?

A: Most legendary weapons are capable of being Masterworked. The masterwork system is a way for you to upgrade your favorite weapons to their maximum potential.

Q: What does it take to upgrade a weapon to a masterwork?

A: Upgrading your weapons, in broad terms, takes a small amount of glimmer, legendary shards, and, most importantly, Enhancement Cores.
Depending on what Tier your weapon is at, the requirements to raise it to the next tier increase the closer the weapon is to being fully masterworked (Tier 10).

Q: What benefits do I get for masterworking a weapon?

A: Each tier that you increase your weapon will grant a small buff to a single stat, chosen randomly when the item drops.
Beyond that, at Tier 5 you gain access to a kill tracker. At Tier 10, your multi-kills will generate orbs of light.

Q: So what are these «masterwork roll» stats?

A: These are the possible stats that upgrading your weapon will grant a bonus to. Depending on what tier you are at, you can grant anywhere from 1-10 additional points in any of the stats listed to your weapon.

Q: Any catch with this?

A: The Bungie API currently says that all weapons can potentially roll with all stats as their masterwork stat. This obviously isn’t accurate, as Blast Radius isn’t applicable to, say, Auto Rifles.
The list you see on this page is trimmed to only show stats that actually appear on the weapon. However, it is possible that Bungie has additional logic behind the scenes that further filters these
possibilities to, for example, prevent certain items from being able to have an Impact masterwork. Until Bungie modifies the API files to 100% accurately display which masterwork stats are possible on
each item, take what you see here with a pinch of salt.

a brief excursion into the history and development of the crossbow…+

Crossbow is a word familiar to many, but hardly many will answer the question of what exactly it means. So, let’s take a short digression into history to understand this concept. The word crossbow, as you can guess from the sound, is French, and in the original it sounds like this — arbalète. In turn, the latter comes from two Latin words: arcaballista < "arcus" - an arc and "ballisto" - to throw. In other words, a crossbow is a crossbow, or a balestra, a type of throwing edged weapon, a mechanical bow. But the crossbow is still different from the bow, moreover, qualitatively. It is much more accurate in terms of shooting and impact force, although in some cases it has lower speed and range. But the latter is extremely rare. The arrows used for shooting from a crossbow are called bolts - they are much thicker and shorter than the usual arrows for a bow. For shooting from a special type of crossbows - Schneppers - bullets are used. But in the fighting, hand crossbows or similar models were used, but increased in size - a kind of combat vehicles. They are called ballistas.

Now let’s look at the device, origin and modification over time of this type of throwing melee weapons. The basis of the crossbow is the stock. A trigger mechanism is attached to the inside of this cavity, a guide groove specially for bolts is located on its surface, and at the end there are a stirrup and a cross, on which the shoulders are attached — a solid part of the support, which is made of steel, wood or horn. The trigger mechanism consists of a trigger lever, washers with a slot for the shank and hooks for the bowstring (walnut) and a spring for fixing. That arm, which is shorter, rests against the protruding part of the nut, pressing on the longer arm, and thus keeps the whole mechanism in an erect position. A direct shot occurs when the trigger lever is pressed, as a result of which the short arm releases the hook with the nut, the nut scrolls around the axis under the action of the bowstring and releases the latter from the hook.

Crossbows that were used during the Middle Ages were divided into three main groups. And this gradation was dictated by the way the bowstring was erected. Those whose bowstring was pulled by means of an attached iron lever bore the bizarre name «goat’s leg.» It was the simplest type of crossbow at the time. For slightly more powerful crossbows, the bowstring was pulled using a rack and pinion mechanism. Well, the most serious type of crossbow in the Middle Ages was considered the one that was equipped with a block tensioner and a gate with two handles. Of course, each of the above types of crossbow appeared after the previous one as a newer and improved model, but at the same time requiring more time to reload. As a result, the goat’s leg remained the most common and sought-after type of throwing weapon. It was fastened with rivets to a thick leather belt and worn on the belt, and the fuse saved from accidental shots in this position. So that when the crossbow was lowered down, the arrow did not fall out, it was fastened with a special latch.

And, in general, as mentioned above, the crossbow is a derivative of the bow. The idea to improve the ancient weapon arose because it was too inconvenient to keep the bowstring taut while aiming, as it had to be done with a bow. There was a need to invent a mechanism that, when erected, holds the bowstring and, when pressed, releases it. In addition, it was necessary to establish mass production of new weapons. It is difficult to say with certainty, but, apparently, for the first time such a need was satisfied in the Greek Syracuse in the 5th century BC. Gastrofet or abdominal bow — a Greek crossbow with a trigger and lever mechanism. True, to bring the latter into action, it was necessary to press on it with the stomach, hence the name — abdominal. Although, there is another version — judging by it, crossbows were invented in China in the 2nd or 4th century BC. But in any case, one thing is quite obvious — crossbows are a very ancient invention. But his fate can be called not permanent. For example, in China, during the fight against the Huns during the Han Dynasty, the crossbow was the main weapon, and then it was forgotten for several centuries. And already in the XI century, so much long oblivion gave the crossbow a “second invention”. In European countries, crossbows were used during the Hellenistic period, then disappeared into obscurity for unknown reasons, and already in the 3rd-5th centuries, during the decline of the Roman Empire, they reappeared, but already under the name of manualists and with much less demand, since in the Roman legion arrows belonged to auxiliary army. The Arabs and Byzantines have a completely different situation with crossbows. Since they preferred horse fighting, the crossbow was a completely unsuitable weapon for them, since it did not allow them to participate in hand-to-hand combat, so the Arabs and Byzantines preferred the bow.

Roman crossbows were used in Europe and Byzantium until the 6th century. Then for a long time the mention of this type of throwing weapon ceased. And now, during the time of the Crusades in Europe, crossbows again begin to appear. But, nevertheless, one should not rush to conclusions — in the bible of the monastery of Saint-Jarmain of the X century there are images of a crossbowman, which means that even in the so-called period of “forgetting”, crossbows, although infrequently, were used. Moreover, wars with the Arabs took place even before the start of the Crusades. For example, the Chronicle of Livonia or Henry of Latvia — this manuscript describes in detail the participation of crossbowmen in the German conquest of Livonia as early as the 13th century.

In a story about the history of crossbows, it is impossible not to mention Chinese shop crossbows. They originate in the 12th century. And they lasted right up to the end of the 19th century — an impressive period. Chinese crossbows were lever-operated, they were not very powerful — their energy was no more than 90 J. But they had a huge advantage — a very effective lever, thanks to which the cocking took place very quickly and with minimal effort. The bolts had recessed plumage, they were located in the upper magazine of 8-12 pieces and rolled into the chute under the pressure of their own weight. The rate of fire from such crossbows reached about 8 rounds per minute. If the opponent was not protected by armor, then it was possible to hit him with a Chinese crossbow from a distance of 50 or even 70 meters.

As can be seen from history, the main purpose of crossbows for more than one century was combat. It is quite logical, given that the crossbow is a type of melee weapon, and the direction of its use during the period of endless wars, crusades and seizures of empires is obvious. Today, the situation is certainly quite different. Crossbows are used for hunting and for sports entertainment and competitions. and, of course, are a chic gift. Our site offers a large selection of crossbows — among the huge assortment, everyone can find a crossbow that is suitable for the price and modification. Let’s briefly get acquainted with the main directions of gradation of modern crossbows to make it easier and more convenient for you to choose.

So, firstly, you can see the division of crossbows into rifle and pistol crossbows. Rifle type crossbows are mainly used for hunting. This kind of fun is very common in the West and in the USA, but in the Russian Federation such entertainment is not allowed everywhere. The rifle crossbow has a one-piece body and an ergonomic design. In the presence of parts mounted on the body — the neck and fore-end. Through them, the crossbow is supported when firing. A prominent representative of this type of crossbow is the «Caiman» or «Scorpion». Pistol crossbows have a very easy-to-use butt, reliable and stable, reminiscent of a pistol butt. For example «Aspid». Crossbows of this type are incredibly easy to use, convenient to transport and store. In addition, their power is quite high with a very compact size. Crossbows of both types are presented in our store, all models are made of high quality materials and are certified.

In addition, crossbows can be conditionally divided into women’s, men’s and children’s. For those who are going on vacation and want to provide the whole family with crossbows, our website offers models for you and your loved ones. For example, the Tarantula model is perfect for women or teenagers — its weight is only 2.4 kg and this is with a resource of more than 10,000 shots.
