Can you run Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim?

Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim PC Specs — Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim PC Requirements?

By Cliff Henjum July 6, 2019

Perhaps the biggest single-player game of the decade, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, has won over 200 Game of the Year Awards throughout its life. It has been ported to every new console that has come out and has even been fully adapted to Virtual Reality. The action role-playing game from Bethesda continues to bring in new players that are wondering if their computer is strong enough to run it. Don’t forget about other big games from Bethesda, such as Fallout 4 and DOOM Eternal. It’s important to figure out which version of Skyrim you plan on playing because the system requirements are different. Do you and your computer have what it takes to stop Alduin the World-Eater?

In October of 2016, Bethesda released a Special Edition version of Skyrim and provided all previous owners with the free upgrade. While this meant a boost in graphics, it also meant an increase in computer power was needed. Originally you only needed a GeForce 7600 GT or a Radeon X1800 to pass the minimum requirements, but the enhanced version requires at least a GeForce GTX 470 or a Radeon HD 7870. That’s a fairly sizeable increase in video card power, but it is definitely worth it. There was also a jump between old and current CPU requirements — it used to be set at a simple 2 GHz Dual-Core processor, but now your PC will need at least a Core i5-750 or a Phenom II X4-945. The Special Edition brings all of the exceptional mod tools to your fingertips, as well as new weapons, armor, and character dialogue.

If you want your PC to max out all of the graphics and play with tons of mods installed, you will need to pass the recommended requirements. In order to slay dragons with a high FPS, your GPU needs to be at least a GeForce GTX 780 or a Radeon R9 290 with 3-4 GB of VRAM. If you have a card along the lines of the GeForce GTX 780, that means you can run over 90% of the other games on the market as well. It would put you somewhere in between the minimum and recommended requirements for a game like Rust, which is notorious for having high system requirements. Don’t forget about your CPU — it needs to be at least as powerful as a Core i5-2400 or an AMD FX-8320.

Maybe you want to strap on an Oculus Rift or an HTC VIVE while you live the life of magic-wielding archer. Well then your PC needs to pass the standard VR system requirements as well as having about 15+ GB of available space for install files. A GeForce GTX 1070 or a Radeon RX Vega 56 will put you over the recommended requirements so hopefully your PC is ready for that. The VR version of Skyrim is hailed as one of the greatest VR adaptations of any modern game.

Skyrim, the fifth entry in the Elder Scrolls series, remains one of the most popular games to ever be played on PC. PC gamers that want to join in on the fun need hardware in their computer that can pass this system requirements test. Bethesda set the minimum GPU requirements at the GeForce GTX 470 and the Radeon HD 7870. For your CPU, they want you to have at least an Intel Core i5-750 or an AMD Phenom II X4 945. Play Skyrim with maxed out graphics for the most immersive gameplay experience on a computer that passes the recommended requirements test. The recommended GPU is set at the GeForce GTX 780 and the Radeon R9 290, while the recommended CPU is set at the Core i5-2400 and AMD FX-8320. Skyrim also needs 8 GB of system RAM and about 12 GB of free harddrive space for the install. Now it’s time to slay some dragons!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Walkthrough — Part 4, Death of the Dragon

Welcome to the last part of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim main story walkthrough . In the last part, we stopped talking to the dragon Paarthurnax, the leader of the Greybeards, who told us about how we can learn the Dragonrend cry — we need to find one of the Elder Scrolls. Let’s continue.

How can we find the Elder Scroll? First we need to talk to either Arngeir in High Hrothgar or Esbern in Sky Haven Temple. Whoever we talk to, they will tell us that the biggest chance to learn something about the Scroll is to meet with the librarian at the College of Wizards of Winterhold, where we are going.

When you reach the city, you will find that one of the recently awakened dragons is flying nearby — another soul to our collection. Having dealt with the dragon, we go to the entrance to the College. Here our path will be blocked by the elf Faralda, who will ask us a series of questions such as where we are going and why we need it, after which she will ask us to take a test — to prove that we can enter the College. There are three options — Convince her to let us through without a test, tell her that we are Dragonborn and demonstrate our cry or summon a fire elemental (you can buy the spell from her if you have not learned it yet).

After passing the test, we go to the College and follow the marker to the Arcaneum to talk with the keeper of the Books and Scrolls — Urag gro-Shub. Urag will not be able to help us with anything special, but he will bring a couple of books about the Elder Scrolls that we can read. One of the books will be completely insane, which is what we ask Uraga about. He will answer us that it was written by Septimus Signus, who is currently somewhere in the north.

We leave the college to the village and look for a path leading to the sea. Here we go along the huge ice floes towards the marker. Having reached the shelter of Septimus, we talk with him and learn about the ruins in which the Scroll should be located (and we also get an additional quest for Septimus himself).

Before heading to the ruins of Alftand, it’s a good idea to get rid of the excess cargo and stock up on the necessary potions — we’ll be spending a lot of time underground.

So, we enter the ruins. You should not have any particular difficulties in passing through these ruins. Avoid fights with a large number of opponents, watch where you step — there are a couple of places with traps. And the rest is a standard corridor part. In one place you will need to destroy the Dwarven Centurion, but if you are a mage or an archer, then there should be no problems with him. You can also find Dwarven armor here, however, to collect a complete set, you will have to pick a rather complicated lock. But we will continue. After a while, you’ll come across a gigantic Blackreach cavern that’s home to a few Falmer, but it’s mostly a great place to loot — full of interesting stuff. Following the marker you will reach the end of the cave — here is the entrance to the Mzark tower.

We rise to the second level of the sphere, then along the passage to the left or right we go to the control panel of the sphere. There will be four buttons, two of which are turquoise. You need to activate the two remaining buttons. To do this, press the second button on the right (so that it is lit) several times until one next button on the left lights up. Repeat this action with the newly lit button until the last one lights up. Then click on the last one, watch the scene as the scroll appears. We approach the center of the sphere and pick up the Ancient Scroll.

Use the passage behind the control panel to get to the surface. Now a question. Are you confident that you can defeat Alduin? If not, then keep leveling up, looking for the best armor and weapons. When you are sure that no dragon is afraid of you, go to the Throat of the World, read the Scroll and watch how Alduin was «destroyed» for the first time. At the end of the scene, you will learn Dragonrend, which you will immediately try out on Alduin who is trying to devour you. The battle will be very difficult, but when you are ready to deal the final blow, the dragon will fly away to heal the wounds you inflicted.

We go to Arngeir or Esbern, who will tell you how you can get to Alduin. Apparently, we will have to catch and interrogate one of the dragons, and this can only be done with the support of Earl Whiterun. We go to him.

In a conversation, the earl will tell you that he cannot engage in the capture of a dragon while there is a war around — here we get the task of negotiating a peace agreement between the Empire and Ulrik leading the resistance of Skyrim against the Empire. First we go to Arngeir to talk about what you have achieved, after which we need to go to Solitude to meet with General Tullius and then go to Windhelm where you will meet with Ulrik (in the conversation it should be mentioned that Tullius has already agreed to a meeting) .

Now we go to the Greybeards, where the leaders’ meeting will take place. In order for the two sides to agree to peace, you can use several answers, but here is one of the best:

  • Allow the Thalmor Ambassador to stay.
  • Markarth will go to Ulrik, but in return offer the Empire first the Rising Star (city in the north), after which the parties will converge on Winterhold.

Having dealt with this situation and having learned the name of the dragon Odahviing, we go to Whiterun, talk and talk with the earl about your plan. After that, we go to the hall, Dragonsrich, where you will need to shout out the name of the dragon. When Odahviing arrives, go to the door and wait until the trap closes — now you can start the interrogation. Odahviing will tell you that Alduin is hiding in the ancient temple of Skaldafn, which can only be reached by air. Before you let go of the dragon and fly to the temple, make sure that all equipment and healing packs are ready.

Letting go of Odahviing, we climb onto his neck and fly to the temple. Arriving in Skalafn, you will almost immediately have to fight two dragons, after which you will find yourself in the next ruins clogged with zombies by archers, magicians and swordsmen. Traveling through the corridors you will come across two places where you will need to rotate the stone columns into the correct position. In the first place, if you stand next to the lever and look at the columns, from left to right they should be set to the position: eagle, snake, eagle (image above). Passing further you will find yourself at the lever located in front of the raised bridge. To lower the bridge, you must first place three stones in the correct position. At the first level, you need to set up a snake. On the second, a fish and an eagle, depending on the position of the stone — look at the hint signs.

Also at the end of one of the corridors, you will need to kill a zombie, remove the Diamond Claw from it and use it to open the door nearby. The stone discs should be displayed as (from top to bottom): fox (or wolf), dragonfly and dragon. In the next room, you will learn a new power word.

After that, you will go to the top of the temple, where you will first need to destroy the usual zombies and then take on the rather strong Nakriin, who has a staff that opens the portal to Sovngarde. We activate the portal, jump into it and find ourselves in a stunningly beautiful and impressive place — Sovngarde.

Having looked at the beautiful sky, we go down and using the cry of Clear Skies we go through the fog towards the marker. Soon you will find yourself in front of a tall man named Tsun, who is blocking your passage. You will need to have a small fight with him to prove your strength and the right to enter the Hall of Valor. We pass along the bone bridge and find ourselves in a wickedly large hall jam-packed with muscular heroes and … female heroes.

There will be a couple of dialogues here, after which you will leave the hall for the final battle with Alduin. And as assistants you will have three heroes of past centuries. When you yell enough at the fog, which will hesitate and disappear, Alduin will fly up to you. Use Dragonrend to calm him down and while he sits, shred the reptile as soon as you can — colleagues will help a lot. But you should already be a seasoned dragon slayer, so it’s not for me to teach you.

After killing the dragon, you can wander around this area a little more, then talk to Tsun, who will return you back to Skyrim.

And with this I finish The ElderScrolls V: Skyrim walkthrough. Congratulations, you’ve completed the main storyline of the game and you can start modding or completing side quests, joining secret societies and robbing tombs that Lara Croft never dreamed of.

Skyrim map. Photo: youtube.com frame

A map from the computer fantasy game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was found in a Ukrainian school textbook on geography. An unexpected discovery was shared by one of the users of the social network Facebook.

The map together with the image of the globe became an illustration for the section «Earth on the plan and map» of the geography textbook for sixth grade students. The book was released in 2014 by Valery Pestushko and by Anna Uvarova and recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

When did The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim come out and what is the series about?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open-world multi-platform role-playing game developed by the American company Bethesda Game Studios in 2011. Literally, the title can be translated as The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. The game is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series.

All games in the series are united in one fictional universe, and the player is given a lot of freedom of action thanks to the so-called open world. The game does not have a strictly defined plot that the user must follow: everyone can independently choose when and in which part of the map to go and what task to start. Gender, race and appearance of the main character, each player also chooses for himself, that is, in the game you can literally be anyone.

Three add-ons have been released for Skyrim (Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn), expanding the story possibilities and opening up new tasks for players. And in 2012, the developers released the Creation Kit — a set of special programs that allows the user to create their own modification of the game for the Windows operating system. Similar applications were in the previous parts of The Elder Scrolls. With the help of the Creation Kit, third-party developers could both change existing objects and characters, and add new ones and significantly change the gameplay. Some of the modifications created added new territories, tasks to the game, and even completely changed the plot.

What is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim about?

The action of the fifth part takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim on the Tamriel mainland, and 200 years separate it from the events of the previous game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Despite the large number of «side» quests and tasks, the game has a main storyline. Dragons that were thought to be extinct for many years may return to Skyrim. The main antagonist is the powerful dragon Alduin, also known as the World Eater. He resurrects once killed and buried dragons and, according to the prophecy, will destroy all of Nirn (this is the name of the planet on which the events of The Elder Scrolls unfold).

Alduin can only be prevented by the Dragonborn, or Dragonborn, as people with special magical abilities are called.
