The Collector’s Edition of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep contains a physical puzzle that needs to be solved to get a secret bonus. Here’s how.

The Collector’s Edition of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep contains a physical collector’s item known as a Hive Cryptoglyph. It’s a red cylinder with Hive runes on it, modeled after an item in the game that all players will be interacting with in order to craft gear in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. But the replica that comes in the Collector’s Edition of the Shadowkeep expansion contains a secret.

If the correct sequence of runes is selected on the Cryptoglyph, it will slide open to reveal a code and a URL to a page on Bungie.net. It is unknown at this time exactly what the code will unlock, but it looks to be completely exclusive to owners of the Collector’s Edition of Shadowkeep.

A fan who goes by «soapcracker» on Reddit received his Collector’s Edition early and solved the puzzle revealing how to solve the Cryptoglyph and showing what’s inside. Some other people have also gotten their Collector’s Edition and have also solved it revealing some more information about it.

First, to open the Cryptoglyph, enter this exact rune sequence by turning the different rows:

Credit: soapcracker

Inside the Cryptoglyph is a card that leads to one of two URLs that fans have discovered so far, either Bungie.net/hope or Bungie.net/dust.

Currently, these URLs redirect to a holding page saying to return on October 1, 2019, the day that Shadowkeep releases.

It’s likely that this will unlock an emblem exclusive to owners of the Collector’s Edition, but it could be something else entirely. It looks like whatever it is, these will be one-time use codes. Conversely, back when The Taken King released in Destiny 1, there were similar secrets found in the journal of The Taken King Collector’s Edition but what ended up being an emblem code in the journal could be used by anyone and was shared online where any player could find it. Whatever this code from Shadowkeep’s Collector’s Edition unlocks, players have to wait until October 1st to find out.

The Collector’s Edition is completely sold out so there is no way for people to get their hands on one at this point unless they win one from various contests some streamers and content creators are holding.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep releases October 1, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.

Everything New from Eververse in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep

With the release of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, developer Bungie is rolling out a massive overhaul to its Eververse in-game cosmetics store. This upgrade almost completely changes everything in the Eververse store, but don’t worry — we’ve got everything you need to know, broken down. Here is our summary of all the changes made to Eververse.

Moons haunt

Destiny 2: Keeper of Shadows

Face your fears

The Shadowkeep expansion sends players to the Moon to fend off a new nightmare enemy, all the while a Vex invasion looms on the horizon.

Eververse Store available anywhere

The Store icon in the upper left corner of the Director menu provides remote access to Eververse Store.

Instead of having to return to the Tower every time you want to access the Eververse store, you can now do it anywhere, anytime. This can be done by opening the «Director» menu and selecting the «Shop» tab located in the upper left corner of the screen. Eververse Remote Access works the same way as in the store in the Tower — you can buy silver without any problems, as well as view and buy the items you need.

Eververse Armor sets now work as universal decorations

All previously unlocked Eververse armor aesthetics can be worn on any Legendary armor in the game as decoration.

One of the most significant changes to the Eververse system in Shadowkeep is the way Eververse armor works. Instead of getting real armor pieces that have perks, all Eververse armor can now be «equipped» on legendary armor as decorations, for free at any cost. Eververse armor from the seasons leading up to the Season of the Immortal will still function as armor pieces, but every Eververse armor from now on will function as decoration. In addition, if you have collected Eververse armor from previous seasons, its appearance will be automatically unlocked in your account. This new system allows you to mix and match many different styles without any hassle, so gamers who are into fashion should rejoice.

Earning Bright Dust changed

Bright Dust in the Eververse store.

The acquisition of Bright Dust, one of the two currencies that can be used to purchase Eververse items (the other is Silver, which you pay for), has been significantly changed. You can no longer make Eververse rewards to earn it; instead, you should be making different types of rewards, both weekly and repeatable, for Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit. If you had any Eververse reward notes in your inventory before Shadowkeep launched, you should discard them now as they are no longer usable. In addition, you get a small amount of Bright Dust.

Also, dismantling Eververse items now gives Glimmer and Legendary Shards instead of Bright Dust. To compensate, it no longer costs Bright Dust to take Eververse items out of the Collections tab.

Bright Engram earnings have changed

An overview of what you can earn in the current Bright Engram for the Season of the Immortal.

To compensate for the fact that you can now earn more Bright Dust per week than before due to the recurring nature of the new Bright Dust Boon, Bungie is slowing down the drop rate of Bright Engrams. Instead of getting one for each level, you’ll either have to buy them from Bright Dust in the Eververse store, or acquire them by playing the game and unlocking them as a reward for increasing your seasonal rank. This new system encourages players to try to earn Bright Dust so they can directly buy what they want instead of trying to get Bright Engrams.

New user interface

Featured page of the new Eververse user interface.

Perhaps the most notable change made to Shadowkeep is the clean new UI for the Eververse Store. Instead of the meager two-page menu that existed before the release of Shadowkeep, the Eververse store has expanded to five pages: Featured, Seasonal, Archived, Bright Dust, and Campaigns. Here is a brief explanation of what you will find on each page:

  • Featured: This page contains items that are on sale for a lower price than usual and/or are brand new to the Eververse Store.
  • Seasonal: this page contains all items available for purchase in the current season. Items currently on the featured page are marked with an asterisk
  • Archive: this page shows the range of items available last season and available for purchase.
  • Bright Dust: this page shows which items can be purchased using Bright Dust instead of Silver. Items rotate every week.
  • Campaigns: This page contains badges that allow you to purchase Destiny 2 content expansions such as Forsaken or Shadowkeep that you may not already own.

Your thoughts

What do you think about the changes to the Eververse in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep? Personally, I consider them a positive addition. The increased focus on earning Bright Dust means that players will generally have to rely less on the random number generators in Bright Engrams to get what they want. I also love the new UI and think the idea of turning the Eververse armor into a versatile ornament is brilliant. Let me know what you think of the new system.

Destiny 2 Created by Bungie [a] Publisher Activision (2017-2019) Bungie [1] Part of the Destiny series Announced 27

Destiny 2 is a PC shooter first-person with MMORPG elements, developed by the American company Bungie. A game released in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. In 2019, the game switched to a shareware distribution model, and the PC version became available on Steam [7]; it was released for the Stadia cloud service in the same year, and in 2020 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game was produced by Activision until the contract was canceled in 2019year; the game was later published by Bungie itself [1].

Destiny 2 continues the storyline of Destiny and its expansions. The game takes place in a sci-fi fantasy world that includes several planets in the solar system [8]. The player takes on the role of the Guardian, the defender of the last safe city on Earth. According to the storyline of the game, the Guardians have a supernatural power called Light, which helps them protect the city from invading aggressive aliens [9]. Destiny 2 is a first-person shooter that offers players generic levels. The various activities available in the game include both PvE content — such as exploring the world in search of hidden secrets, destroying strong and dangerous opponents — «bosses» or platform missions that require you to jump over gaps, and PvP content with player battles in arenas. Many long and difficult missions are designed to be completed by a group of three («raid») or six («raid») players, and offer various tasks for such a group that require teamwork, including puzzles.

As with Destiny, Bungie continued to support the game with post-launch DLC, adding new content and missions to the game. Five major expansions have been released for 2021 that add story campaigns to the game: Curse of Osiris, The Warmind, Forsaken, Shadowkeep, and Beyond Light; two more are planned for 2022-2023: The Witch Queen and Lightfall. They should complete the common plot of Destiny and Destiny 2 — the «saga of light and darkness.» In 2020, with the release of the Beyond Light add-on, Bungie reduced the content available to players: the main game’s story campaign, and the Curse of Osiris and War Mind add-ons were no longer available; the developers promised to return both this content and content from the first Destiny [⇨] to the game in the future [⇨] .

Since its release, Destiny 2 has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics [⇨]. Critics noted an improvement in the story from the first game, praising the game for its «stronger story» and well-written antagonist [10][11]. The gameplay was also praised. Critics were divided over the changes to weapon classification, as well as the introduction of new activities such as Adventures and Lost Sectors. The game has been nominated for numerous The Game Awards and Game Critics Awards [⇨].

As in the previous part, Destiny 2 is a first-person shooter that includes MMORPG elements [12]. The goal of the game is to improve the playable character by earning experience points and equipment items for the character. They can be obtained by participating in the gameplay and completing «milestones» — the storyline or weekly tasks.

Starting with the Shadowkeep add-on, the developers decided to abandon the traditional character leveling system from the first to the maximum level. Instead, the game introduced Season Pass levels that level up for all characters at the same time. The main indicator of game progress is the “power level” of the hero. Increases by acquiring equipment with Major Strength. Equipment includes weapons and armor. Each of these objects has its own level of attack or defense. The arithmetic mean of the equipped items determines the hero’s overall power level. During the Season of the Chosen, the maximum power level is 1310 [13] .

Destiny 2 features 3 character classes from the original game: Titans, Hunters and Warlocks. Each class has its own special upgrades, perks, and abilities, as well as 3 light subclasses and one dark subclass, which allow the player to customize their character for their individual play style. After choosing a class, the player can choose their character’s race: Human, Awakened (descended from humans, light and dark, differentiated by bluish skin color) or Exo (humans whose mind, soul and most of their memory has been transferred into a fully mechanical/robot body) … In total, you cannot create more than 3 characters per account [14] [15] .

Actions in Destiny 2 are divided into PvE (player versus environment) and PvP (player versus player). In addition to story missions, PvE activities also include 3-player raids and 6-player raids. Players can move around the open world of the game, completing various tasks or participating in public events. PvP activities include deathmatch modes, capture zones and more.

The Destiny sequel was first mentioned by Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg during a conference call in November 2014, 2 months after the release of the first part [16]. According to the original release schedule, Bungie and Activision planned to release the game every two years, with major expansions released between games. [17] Originally scheduled for September 2016, the release was pushed back to the following year. In February 2016, writer Christopher Schlerf, who contributed to the development of Halo 4 and Mass Effect: Andromeda, joined Bungie. [18] Activision’s own company Vicarious Visions joined the development in December [19] .

Kotaku publisher Jason Schreier later revealed that development on the game was restarted in early 2016 due to a change in game director: Luke Smith, who previously worked on the original game, took over from the previous game director. According to Schreier, the team didn’t have enough development time, and only 16 months elapsed between the reboot and the game’s release [20] .

In Activision’s 2016 earnings report, Hirschberg said the Destiny sequel «will be out in the fall [2017]». Activision itself stated that the release of the second part «will expand the global coverage of the franchise.» The CEO made it clear that the players who spent many hours on the first part will also enjoy the sequel. As for those who stopped playing or never played Destiny, he noted:

… I think we made a sequel that they will also like. Its cornerstone is a great cinematic story with an emphasis on memorable characters and close to the players, combined with some improvements to make the game more accessible to the casual player. [21]

Announcement

On March 23, 2017, a poster of the game with the logo, release date, and mention of beta testing was leaked online [22]. On March 27, Bungie officially announced Destiny 2 by posting an image of the game’s logo on Twitter [23] [24]. In one of the teaser trailers that followed the announcement, some elements of the game were temporarily exclusive to the PS4 console. [25] It lasted 2 years and ended in October 2019year [26] .

Along with the announcement of the game, rumors about its release on personal computers were confirmed [27]. Destiny 2 for Windows supports 4K resolution, unlimited frame rate, mouse and keyboard controls, text chat, variable field of view, and an ultra-wide monitor [en] [28]. Until October 2019, this version was available on Battle.net, but after the termination of the contract with Activision, it was moved to Steam [7] .

Release

Destiny 2 was released worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, 2017, with a PC release later on October 24. Several editions of the game were available for purchase. By analogy with the first part, the more expensive editions are supplemented by the Season Pass, which includes two additions to the game. The collector’s edition, in addition to the subscription, included a bag, a metal case (steel book), paracord, a USB battery with a solar battery, as well as brochures and postcards designed on the theme of the game [29] .

In October 2019, Bungie made several changes to the Destiny 2 monetization model. New World base game is now free to play [7]. Includes full access to the story campaign, all Year 1 content (including high-level content such as raids), and PvP modes [30]. Additional content (for example, the second or third year) can be purchased later. As conceived by the developers, the player should be able to «play where his friends play» [31]. In this regard, cross-platform saves were introduced, which allow you to transfer the player’s progress between platforms. In addition, Destiny 2 has become available on the Stadia cloud streaming service. During the post-release content press conference [32], it was announced that the game will be released on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X platforms. 33].

Sales

Activision chose not to disclose the exact number of copies sold, but a press release states that Part 2 «surpassed the original in terms of player engagement and first-week digital sales» [34]. US analyst Michael Pachter called the sales «disappointing». According to him, the number of copies sold in the first month was 40% less than in the first part [35]. Despite this, the project, together with Call of Duty: WWII, became one of the best-selling games of 2017 [36] .

The first Curse of Osiris expansion was released on December 5, 2017. The focus of the application is Osiris, a character from the first part. Added a new patrol zone: Mercury. The maximum character level has been increased to 25, the maximum level of Strength has been increased to 330. Instead of a new raid, a “raid lair” has appeared in the game, consisting of new zones for the old Leviathan raid and a new boss [37] [38] .

The second expansion, Warmind, was released on May 8, 2018. The expansion introduces 2 new characters: Ana Bray and the artificial intelligence «Rasputin». The player gains access to the Mars Escalation Protocol public event. The maximum character level has been increased to 30, the maximum level of Strength has been increased to 380. On June 4, 2019, the Abundance expansion was released [46]. It is dedicated to Emperor Calus and his ship Leviathan. Along with the expansion, a new action called Panopticon has been added to the game.

In the third year of Destiny 2, on October 1st, 2019, the PC version moved from Battle.net to Steam with all user profile migrations [7] and the release of the Shadowkeep expansion [47]. They also announced the transition of the gaming service to a free-to-play model.

For the fourth year of Destiny 2, a new Beyond the World expansion was released on November 10, 2020. The DLC tells a new story about a fallen race and a great revelation of darkness. [48] [32].

Simultaneously with the release of the DLC, 4 positions of the planets (Mars, Mercury, Titan, Io) that had existed on the game map for a long time were removed from the game, i. e. moved to the content archive. The old sites have been replaced by two new sites, Jupiter’s frozen moon Europa (the main story scene of the Beyond the World add-on) and the location of the Cosmodrome on Earth, taken from the first part of the franchise.

Year 5 (2021-2022)

Year 5 of Destiny 2 will see the release of a new expansion, The Witch Queen. [48] [32]
