More than 70 new job openings at Rockstar Games worldwide have led fans to think it is now putting all of its energy into Grand Theft Auto 6.

Rockstar Games has once again set the Grand Theft Auto 6 rumor mill spinning, this time due to the sudden appearance of numerous job listings at the company.

As reported by GameSpot, Rockstar has begun advertising more than 70 new open positions available at their various studios across the globe in the past 24 hours. There are 227 job openings at the company in total at their locations in Bangalore, Manhattan and Oakville, as well as their Dundee and Edinburgh studios in Scotland. The vacancies cover a variety of positions, with the roles ranging from environment artists to physics engineers to data quality analysts.

Many of the job advertisements begin with a preamble reading: «A career at Rockstar Games is about being part of a team working on some of the most creatively rewarding and ambitious projects to be found in any entertainment medium. You would be welcomed to a dedicated and inclusive environment where you can learn, and collaborate with some of the most talented people in the industry.» The publisher then goes on to list the specifics of the job, ranging from experience in working with a certain language of code to using a specific type of art software.

While none of the job listings directly name Grand Theft Auto 6 as the main project the prospective employee will be working on, many do mention the term «open-world» and «motion capture», which was heavily utilized in 2013’s Grand Theft Auto 5. Moreover, the development of GTA 6 has hardly been kept a secret with Rockstar confirming as much in a blog post in February. Therefore, it is hardly outside the realms of believability that this recruitment drive is for a project as sprawling as the long-awaited follow-up game.

A voice actor believed to have worked on the game also inadvertently leaked GTA6‘s internal codename when she added the details of the job to her online resume. Actor Natonia Monet shared a role voicing a character named ‘Tamara’ to her ActorsAccess profile, listed under a Rockstar title described only as Fireball Video Game, though the listing vanished only hours after it appeared. Rockstar is known to take total control of its games’ public presence and works diligently to prevent leaks, with the company apparently well aware of the pressure to deliver a high-quality product after years of fan anticipation.

With the company sinking more resources into the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 and going as far as scrapping remasters of Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4, it seems like that gaming’s biggest unicorn might finally be on the way.

Rockstar Games is one of the biggest names in the video game industry, mainly due to the success of groundbreaking titles like the Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne series. The studio is currently in the news for its highly anticipated upcoming game, Grand Theft Auto 6. The information that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development came as a blessing to fans worldwide who have waited for years to get an official confirmation.

Moreover, Rockstar recently released a blog post mentioning that it will be shifting resources to focus on GTA 6. The blog also revealed that no more updates will be rolled out for Red Dead Online due to limited resources. Naturally, this news upset the Red Dead community, who began rolling out hashtags like #RedDeadFuneral and #SaveRedDeadOnline.

As the studio prioritizes the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, it seeks to supplement its current roster with additional talent. According to an article by PC Gamer, Rockstar Games is seemingly on a hiring spree for multiple positions worldwide. This was confirmed by the careers page on the studio’s official website where several job listings have been posted. Associate Animation Asset Specialist, Gameplay Technical Designer, 3D Character Artist, Photogrammetry Artist, and Animation Systems Programmer are some job postings on the website.

The article also mentions a recruitment site called Hitmarker, where Rockstar Games has submitted 223 job postings, many of which came in a single day. It should be noted that these listings are across multiple locations around the globe, including Toronto, Bangalore, New York, and London, suggesting a collaborative global effort. On the other hand, it could also mean Rockstar is conducting this massive recruitment for another title.

Rockstar’s prime focus seems to be on Grand Theft Auto 6 for the moment, as indicated by countless rumors and leaks. The latest Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks include some exciting information for fans, like having multiple protagonists, one of whom could be female. Other rumors reveal that jetpacks could make a comeback to the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been rumored for a long time, but since Rockstar confirmed the game was in full swing in February 2022, there have been more alleged leaks. The rumors currently being discussed suggest some possible settings, time periods, map sizes, and even which crimes could be the focus of the game. Some of the unconfirmed leaks are a bit implausible, and it’s entirely possible that none of the current rumors are true. However, several variations of the new game have been provided by sources that have been correct in the past.

Rockstar’s February 4, 2022 announcement confirming the development of GTA 6 was part of a general community update and only stated that the next game in the series was in development. Rockstar ended the post by reassuring that more information will be provided as soon as it’s ready, but there have been no other official updates since. Leaked images, documents, and rumors about the content of the new game are unofficial and should not be taken too seriously. Some believe that the trailer could be released before the end of 2022, but for now, fans can only wait and watch.

While some rumors contain conflicting information, most of the leaks describe the same or similar features of Grand Theft Auto 6. Map size, main characters, and possible character returns have all been discussed by various sources. An extensive document was also published detailing virtually every aspect of the game. However, this document is almost certainly a fake, because it is unlikely that one person would have access to all this information and could leak it without consequences. The document contains a lot of details, including the plot, the soundtrack, all the vehicles in the game, and other features. While this alleged megaleak contains a lot of information that is most likely false, some of it is also speculated by other sources.

Reports talk about the GTA 6 scale map of the world

One of the most interesting rumors concerns the size of the map in Grand Theft Auto 6. A YouTube video posted by The Know, as well as a Reddit post that was deleted, pointed to that the new game is codenamed Project Americas. Rumors suggested that the world map might cover part or all of the United States, as well as other countries in the Americas. It is unlikely that the map will be as extensive, but it is possible that players will still be able to visit several countries. There are also rumors that the main theme of the new plot will be the drug trade, which could expand on the side activities that are currently included in GTA Online. If Vice City is going to be one of the main locations, then a criminal career involving drug smuggling to various locations both domestically and internationally isn’t too far off. Along with the possible plot direction and some potential locations and characters, there are rumors of doppelgangers of the main characters in the next game.

GTA 6 may have its first female protagonist

Tom Henderson’s leak also discussed the possibility of multiple protagonists and the possibility of one of them being a woman. Matheusvictorbr expanded on the rumors Henderson was talking about, suggesting that there would be one male and one female protagonist in the game. The report states that GTA 6 will take place in modern Vice City, Carcer City, Cuba, and Columbia. The Matheusvictorbr leak also claims that the main characters are twins seeking revenge for their father’s death at the hands of the cartel. One of them allegedly infiltrates the cartel, while the other works with the government to fight it from the outside. The plot certainly fits into the possible locations, but nothing has been confirmed at the moment.

Rumors of a female protagonist are so plausible that Rockstar usually creates unique protagonists for each game. The female character will be a first for the franchise, and is the next logical step to expand the range of protagonists in the series. It’s possible that the game will have one customizable protagonist, like Eivor in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, or that the sibling theory is correct, and players will be able to switch between playable characters.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will most likely use the new game engine

Chris Klippel of Rockstar Magazine described Grand Theft Auto 6 as graphically ahead of its time. Rockstar is rumored to be using a new version of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine. Previous versions were used for Red Dead Redemption and GTA games. The graphics in the latest game were already impressive, and the prospect of using a more advanced game engine is good news. Klippel is considered a reliable source, and if previous Rockstar releases are any indication, improved, innovative, and seamless graphics are very likely.

GTA 6 may only be released on next-gen consoles

Given that the improved GTA 5 will be released this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, it is expected that the new game will be available for next-gen consoles. However, there are rumors that the new game will not be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The last game came out in 2013, the same year that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 came out, so it was available on older consoles as well. However, Grand Theft Auto 6 is estimated to arrive in 2024 or 2025. If the estimated timeline is correct, then next-gen consoles will be out in at least four years, so it’s entirely possible that the game won’t be available on older consoles.

There have been some minor rumors that the campaign will run for over 70 hours and that the house seen during the San Andreas UFO mission is actually a leak. A photo of the mysterious house can be found in the definitive edition of San Andreas and shared by Kirsty Cloud on Twitter. However, the possibility that this house is a leak about a new game should be taken with a grain of salt. Ultimately, due to the lack of official information from Rockstar, it’s entirely possible that any number of rumors could turn out to be true, or that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be anything but what it is currently expected to be.
