    The requirements for high-quality devices are very strict and all power supplies must meet them. Various criteria are used to evaluate the quality of a power supply. Many consumers neglect the importance of the power supply when buying a computer, and therefore some personal computer assemblers reduce the cost of it. It’s no secret that much more often the price of a computer increases due to additional memory or a larger hard drive, and not due to a more advanced power source.

    Insufficient power supply capacity limits the computer’s expansion capabilities, but quite often computers are released with fairly powerful power supplies, given that new (additional) nodes will be installed in the system in the future. The power rating indicated on the power supply, as everyone knows, is not all the data about the power supply that we must take into account. Cheap power supplies can certainly develop the power indicated in the passport, but what about other characteristics? Some power supplies work out their parameters with difficulty, while others work reliably and with a large margin. Many cheap power supplies are characterized by unstable output voltages , they also contain noise and interference , and this, as you know, leads to numerous unpleasant problems . As a rule, such power supplies get very hot themselves and heat all other components of the computer system unit. Replacing a power supply installed in a computer with a more powerful one is usually not a problem, because power supply designs are standardized, and finding a replacement for most systems is quite simple.

    Repair of high-quality and expensive power supplies is cost-effective and practically possible with the presence of trained repair personnel (for example, in courses).

    The EPS12V standard is a standard for entry-level servers , but it is still necessary to mention it: the fact is that 400-500 W power supplies corresponding to it are quite often on sale, which are of particular interest to owners of powerful systems ATH standard. Physical blocks of the EPS12V standard in terms of dimensions and location of mounting holes are compatible with ATX blocks, so nothing prevents from installing them in a regular ATX case. The EPS12V mainboard power connector is similar to that in ATX12V 2.0 boards, not only physically (this is a 24-pin connector of the same type), but also in pin assignment; thus, you can easily connect ATX12V 2.0 motherboards to the EP512V power supply and, if it is physically possible, connect a larger connector to ATX12V 1. 1 motherboards as well (if this is not possible, you should use an adapter). The EPS12V has its own processor power connector, eight pins. However, the four outermost pins exactly match the ATX12V connector, so it can also be directly connected to a regular ATX12V motherboard if there is free space on the side of the connector installed on it, or if there is no space, use an adapter. It is important that EPS12V blocks come with both one + 12 V source and two, similar to ATX12V 2.0. In the latter case, you can connect a second +12 V power supply source on the ATX12V 1.1 motherboard (it is routed to the 8-pin processor power connector) only if you are sure that the processor power buses and the +12 V bus from the power connector of the motherboard itself are completely separated ; otherwise, the motherboard may be damaged. With motherboards of the ATX12V 2.0 standard, such a problem cannot arise — their buses are separated by definition, because two separate power supplies are used.
