Not much of an advancement from previous versions. Although I love sequals and feanchises such ad Just Cause, Assassins Creed and Elder Scrolls where the play is very similar game to game most of the time they make enough of an adjustment to make tge game enjoyable. It seems like this Franchise stays stagnent and in some way fall moves in reverse sometime. Still a good game though.

Great game!! Especially for the price… Its more strategic than DW8, which I do like… But I also find myself missing the story line and gameplay of a non-Empires game

There are two things I value most in a «good» game. The first is choices, and there are a lot in this game though the character creation could have more, the large selection of fighting styles and outfits make up for that pretty well. On top of that there are a lot of choices in how you play the game, but the missions are very black and white, either you finish the objective or not. A good example would be the «stealth» missions, if you get spotted more enemies spawn but you can ignore them complete the objective and kill the one enemy that always spawns at the exit that you have to kill to finish.
Overall it is a great game with minor «inconsistencies» that could be fix to make it better.

I got the game when it came out and have to say it good. no not good it is freaking great.
I love how you can make customer chars, and input them in the world. I love the stratagem you can use by far my favor one is swift raid, the power to teleport to the nears enemy’s front line base rocks.
one thing I don’t like about it is you cant make a customer char + normal char have child in edit mode cause . also I do wish it was English sound not Japanese but that life.
buy this game you wont regret it

So, I went looking for am Empire Building game, that had some action RPG aspects to it, and I settled on DWE8 — The DW aspect of the game is spot on, but even on Chaos — it’s not as hard as DW is on Normal. When you get down to creating your own officer, which is stellar, it turns out that they are the only person you can customize. I wanted to install Dian Wei as the leader of an area, give him weapons and armor and hope that he could hold it on his own and that he didn’t turn again me. As far as I can tell that isn’t possible.
I am also a little disappointed with the «Move Sets» so I am playing a character with a quarter staff, and NO quarter staves have dropped, and despite owning half of China and maxing out the number of weapon smiths, I still can’t buy a 4 star quarterstaff. So, here I am with a 5 star great sword, but the second I hit Mosuo mode, I have a quarterstaff in my hands. ..
Maybe DWE9 they will add some features like the Nemsis System in Shadows of War. I would love to see a game that is as complex as Romance of the Three Kingdoms, with battles that are hack and slash like Dynasty Warriors.
Let’s make that happen!

Dynasty Warriors 8

Platforms: PC | PS3 | Xbox 360 | PS4 | Xbox One

Game Modes: Single Screen (2) / Online / Online (2)

Released: 2012

Oriental-themed games belong to a separate part of the video game market. They have their own famous series, projects that are eagerly awaited, genres, style and typical elements of mechanics. Prior to the advent of the Internet, a negligible number of projects developed in Japan reached Western players. And all of them, as a rule, have been simplified and redesigned. In principle, even now, during total globalization and the colossal growth of the World Wide Web, nothing has changed regarding the prevalence of Japanese-made video games.

They are still played almost exclusively in their home countries and manufacturers do not seek to release them to the world markets. For example, this is exactly the story that happened with the super game Demon Souls, which the publishers, for some unknown reason, decided to hide from the world community, and this despite the incredible work and the highest quality. Only after universal recognition and success in their homeland, Western gamers found out about the existence of such a masterpiece. And exactly the same picture was observed with the Dynasty Warriors series, absolutely unknown to the masses until now, but popular in narrow circles of the initiated. And now comes the eighth part, intended for personal computers. This part traditionally has a cooperative mode, and we simply cannot pass by this wonderful project.

At one time, Koei produced many slasher films. And now, after ten years, games do not evolve. From release to release, from crossover to crossover, one game comes out, the meaning of which is very simple. Your character is the hero of Chinese myths from the time of the civil war. The meaning of the plot is difficult to understand, because. this is about the same as telling the Chinese about the history of the principalities in Rus’. In a nutshell, then your hero is one of the generals of a dynasty whose goal is to subjugate the rest of the powerful families and capture a fragmented China.

The legendary hero is called precisely because he is able to destroy a medium-sized village, literally, with three swings of a huge katana. And there are thousands of such villages in the game. Huge crowds of enemies trembling with fear, who are not able to hit you, are trying to fend off your frantic attacks under the guidance of their commanders. But the main character cares little about all these defenders, to whom he distributes combo kicks right and left in unlimited quantities. Periodically, among the crowd of stupid enemies (who even if they figure out how to hit you with a spear, they will still hit you with the wrong end), there are relatively intelligent captains and even generals of other dynasties. With them you will have to tighten up a little more than with an ordinary crowd of defenders.

In fact, Dynasty Warriors 8 is one of the few games that depicts really large-scale carnage of thousands of warriors, just like in real battles that actually took place. As we understand a little later, this whole crowd of people is a beautiful scenery, fun flying meat from the blows of various weapons. Awareness of the game comes after we leave the game. To believe in the grandeur of battles, given that there are no such battles in other games to this day, you can only close your eyes and turn off your brain, because this is the only way to play this series of games. Having met a captain or general, it becomes clear that the combat, which includes combinations of weak, strong and extremely powerful blows, is worked out much more thoroughly than it seems at first glance.

You can take part in battles with eighty heroes, evenly distributed among the five dynasties available in the game. Remembering this figure, of course, is useless. The faces of the heroes and their characters are not remembered, and the most important thing is the combined weapon, its unique abilities and priorities. Each hero has his favorite weapon, which he uses most effectively, and on which you can hang one of three elements that improve certain characteristics, depending on the type of enemy. It’s like playing rock, paper, scissors. The enemy commander can unexpectedly “drag” you in such a way that it won’t seem enough if you didn’t guess right with the choice of the right element.

The problem with Dynasty Warriors 8 is that each of the missions presented is stereotyped. Everything is very primitive, without surprises and special surprises. Well, on the other hand, what can we expect from a game where in a couple of seconds we can significantly solve the demographic problem of China, having mowed down a significant part of its population. The only surprise is the Ambition mode. But co-operation with him is not possible, and is not needed. Together with a friend, sitting in front of the same screen, randomly chopping thousands of enemies into cabbage is actually a joyful activity that will entertain you for a couple of evenings. And sending a friend home, you can indulge in the same Ambition mode, which will add you a few more hours of pleasure.
