Action adventure xbox one: Best Action-Adventure Games on Xbox

Best Action-Adventure Games on Xbox

This is a full list of the best Action-Adventure games available on Xbox.
We define Action-Adventure games using the genre definition: Action-Adventure games combine elements of Action and Adventure. A game in this genre might incorporate a strong storyline, exploration of the game environment, interaction with non-player characters, and puzzle solving, amongst other things. This genre will not be applied alongside genres that already imply action and adventure (e.g. Shooter, Platformer), meaning the tag is reserved for games that don’t contain enough elements to meet the criteria for any other genre.

From the latest releases to classics that have been given a next-gen makeover, there’s something for everyone. From heart-pounding action-adventure games to more relaxed puzzle games, there’s something for everyone on this list. So, if you’re looking for your next big adventure, check out our list of the best adventure games for Xbox Series X|S and One!

Best Action Adventure Games for Xbox

There are a ton of great action adventure games out there for Xbox Series X|S and One, but which ones are the best? Here’s a list of our favorites:

  1. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: If you’re looking for an epic Viking adventure, look no further than Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This game has it all: intense combat, beautiful scenery, and a rich story.
  2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: One of the best RPG experiences you can have on Xbox is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. With its massive open world, deep character customization, and challenging enemies, this game will keep you busy for hours on end.
  3. Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Another excellent action adventure game is Shadow of the Tomb Raider. This one takes you to South America where you’ll battle fierce foes and uncover ancient mysteries.
  4. God of War: One of the most celebrated games in recent years is God of War. This entry in the series takes Kratos to Scandinavia where he faces off against Norse gods and monsters.

Best Puzzle Adventure Game for Xbox

Looking for the best puzzle adventure game for your Xbox Series X|S or One? Look no further than The Room, developed by Fireproof Games. The Room is a puzzle game that tasks players with solving a series of increasingly complex puzzles in order to progress. The game features beautiful graphics and an immersive soundtrack that enhances the gameplay experience. With its intriguing storyline and challenging puzzles, The Room is a must-play for any fan of puzzle adventure games.

Another recommendation is The Talos Principle. This game tasks you with solving a variety of puzzles while also exploring a beautiful and fascinating world. It’s not an easy game by any means, but it’s definitely one of the most rewarding adventure games out there.

Finally, if you want an adventure game that’s heavy on the story, try out Life is Strange. This episodic game follows the story of Max Caulfield, a girl with the power to manipulate time. It’s an emotional roller coaster of a ride, and one of the best adventure games on any platform.

Best peripherals to play on Xbox

When it comes to gaming, everyone has their own preferences. Some people like to go all-in with the most powerful console on the market, while others prefer a more affordable option that still has plenty of great games to choose from. And then there are those who just want to have as much fun as possible, regardless of the cost.

If you fall into the latter category, then you’re in luck – there are plenty of great adventure games available for Xbox Series X|S and One. And to help you make the most of your gaming experience, we’ve put together a list of the best peripherals to use with these consoles.

First up is the HORI Fighting Stick Alpha. This handy peripheral turns your Xbox into a bona fide arcade machine, complete with an authentic joystick and buttons. It’s great for playing classic arcade games or even modern titles that support it.

If you’re looking for something a little more versatile, then the HORI Fighting Commander controller is worth checking out. It’s designed specifically for fighting games, but it can also be used for other genres such as platformers and shooters. It features four face buttons, two shoulder buttons, and a directional pad, so you’ll have everything you need to take down your opponents.

Secondly, you will need a headset so you can chat with your friends and other gamers online. There are many different headsets available, so it is worth doing some research to find one that is comfortable and has good sound quality. We recommend the Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma, as it is comfortable to wear, has great sound quality, and is very affordable.

Thirdly, you will need a capture card if you want to record your gameplay or stream it online. The Elgato Game Capture HD60 S+ is our top pick, as it is easy to use, has great 1080p60 recording quality, and comes with a free copy of OBS Studio software.

And last but not least, you will need a gaming TV so you can enjoy your games in the best possible quality. We recommend the Samsung QLED TV, as it offers excellent picture quality, low input lag for gaming, and comes with a built-in stand that makes it easy to set up.

Finally, if you want to take your gaming to the next level, then you’ll need a gaming chair. The X Rocker Pro Series h4 is our top pick, as it’s comfortable, stylish, and comes with a built-in audio system. It’s the perfect way to relax after a long day of gaming.

We hope you enjoy our list of the best adventure games for Xbox Series X|S and One. Whether you’re looking for a new game to play or just want to relive some classics, there’s something on this list for everyone. So, grab your controller and get ready for some adventure!

Best Action Adventures on Xbox One — Xbox

Tiffany Garrett

Xbox

Action-adventure is now among the most popular genres in video games, blurring the lines between slow-paced adventures and adrenaline-filled adventures. Since the launch of Xbox One in 2013, the console has amassed an extensive library of action-adventure titles.

After over three years of console release, a diverse collection of adventure games is now available on Xbox One. We’ve compiled a list of the ten best action adventure games available today!

Quantum Break was our favorite adventure game of 2016 and rightfully deserves the title. Remedy’s latest narrative game aims to achieve great things and in most cases exceeds ambition in every sense of the word.

After a horribly failed experiment, Jack Joyce gains the ability to manipulate time at will. After gaining his powers, he learns that time is breaking, leading to a mysterious chain of events surrounding the end of his existence. However, as an all-powerful corporation seeks to kill Joyce, he must use his powers to fight back and save time.

The story’s most unique feature is its delivery, spanning live shows and a traditional video game campaign. Quantum Break is one of the most innovative and memorable events on Xbox One followed by a full length TV show.

Dishonored 2

After its critically acclaimed debut in 2011, Dishonored 2 puts players in control of Corvo Attano and Emily Kaldwin in the coastal town of Karnak. After the events of the first game left the throne for Emily Kaludin, an «otherworldly usurper» overthrew the Empress in an attempt to take over the empire. Taking control of any of the main characters, players must fight their way through enemy forces to reclaim the throne once again.

Dishonored 2 is a great package for fans of story-driven action games with a compelling storyline, wide variety of playstyles and replayability.

Hitman

Agent 47’s journey in 2016, simply called Hitman, took the franchise in a new direction, offering the experience through a monthly episodic model. As gameplay moves into more expansive sandboxes with increased replayability, six main episodes were released over an eight-month period.

The decision to transition Hitman to this new business model, while controversial at first, paid off in the long run. Keeping players engaged with these valuable releases — each of Hitman’s levels feels dynamic with true player freedom. The bloody adventures of Agent 47, available for purchase during the season or episode, are back in all their glory.

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V originally launched before Xbox One hit store shelves, but the title is still one of the best action-adventure games on console. Since its launch, the game has broken a surplus of records, breaking into current-gen platforms and managing to stay at the top of the video game charts in 2017.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise is notorious around the world, having generated its fair share of controversy in recent years. The series is not shy about discussing adult topics and showing excessive violence, which has led to numerous incidents that cause public outcry. The latest game, Grand Theft Auto V, was praised for its compelling storytelling of three criminals who team up to pull off a series of daring heists.

Between single and multiplayer modes, the game provides access to a vast arsenal of weapons and vehicles, as well as the opportunity to participate in various activities and sports. The ever-expanding world now carries a living city-like personality that can be explored endlessly using hundreds of jobs and an expansive free-roam mode.

Faced with the nefarious Trinity Corporation and the dangers of the wild, Lara must use her fighting and survival skills to pursue the designs left behind by her father.

The game builds on the mechanics of its predecessor with various new ways to explore and survive in the wild. A much improved scavenging and crafting system debuted, as well as combat upgrades to better accommodate stealth approaches. The game’s beautifully designed landscapes are filled with challenging puzzles, each with unique yet fair solutions.

Sunset Overdrive

Sunset Overdrive has been one of the most innovative Xbox One exclusives in recent years and easily ranks among the best adventure games on the console. The game takes a comical stance in the increasingly popular post-apocalyptic setting that looms over Sunset City as the addictive energy drink called Overcharge Delirium XT gains popularity. After the drink became a town-wide craze, it was discovered that this drink causes people to mutate into carnivorous monsters that crave the drink.

Fast-paced gameplay complements the tone of Sunset Overdrive with exaggerated movement mechanics and slapstick brutality using a variety of unique abilities and weapons. The game offers a variety of character customization, clothing, weapons, and abilities, each with their own unique exotic flair. Filled with hours of witty humor and innovative concepts, Sunset Overdrive easily ranks as one of the best action-adventure games on the platform.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Basically, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is one of the best action games of the past year, but it also offers an established sandbox that provides the perfect scenarios for advancing covert wars. Created by legendary developer Hideo Kojima, the game marks his latest entry into the Metal Gear franchise.

While the Metal Gear franchise has a solid storyline, MGSV is accessible to newcomers without affecting the experience of longtime fans. The title offers different play spaces to explore, providing an opportunity to experiment with positioning and approach. Enemies are often given predictable patrol routes, allowing the player to plan their attacks, as long as they engage opponents at a reasonable speed. Advanced stealth mechanics such as enemy interrogation, moving corpses, and the ability to distract attention add to the overall depth of the game’s stealth sandbox.

While the Just Cause franchise has always been associated with trite one-liners and parodic violence, Just Cause 3 is the first game developed by Avalanche Studios that truly captures the personality of the series. Notorious criminal Rico Rodriguez returns to the series in a new guise, ready to take on the evil dictator Sebastiano di Ravello, who rules the fictional Mediterranean island of the Medici.

Just Cause 3’s gameplay has been heavily influenced by previous releases, bringing back the iconic grapple and parachute that became the foundation of the series. Combat has also received significant improvements, with improved physics and explosions expanded into a varied sandbox.

Middle-earth: Shadows of Mordor

Middle-earth: Shadows of Mordor takes place before The Lord of the Rings films in a digital depiction of Tolkien’s fictional world in an open world. The game gives a unique twist to traditional role-playing systems by offering solutions to the player that can affect the environment. Aside from choosing how to approach encounters, the Nemesis system is what separates the experience from the crowd, giving enemies personalities that are influenced by the player’s actions.

The Nemesis system is what makes Shadow of Mordor unique, but the solid combat system, inspired by Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham games, is closely tied to it. While the storyline is a little underwhelming, the game expands on Tolkien’s universe and will be a delight for fans of the franchise.

Mad Max

In addition to the 2015 theatrical release of Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max offers a comprehensive action-adventure set in the decimated remains of human civilization. The game was released shortly after the release of the last movie, and although it’s not officially labeled as a movie tie-in, it has far the quality is higher than most feature film games.

Although some aspects of the game have their drawbacks, it provides an immersive experience in the vast desert wasteland. The game’s depiction of a sterile environment is no different from a typical post-apocalyptic shooter, but most of today’s successful games are influenced by the original Mad Max movie. As far as being faithful to the movie series, Mad Max plays nicely with the cult classic aesthetic. In addition, it is quite possible that he has some of the best combat vehicles on the market.
