1. The secret of any art, including football, is surprise. Then the truth will turn on another part of the brain, which will say “Mdaa, how bad, poor fellow, if only he survived.” That is, a moral assessment of what happened will appear. But this assessment will not cancel our interest and pleasure in watching (remember how popular videos with all sorts of rubbish-dismemberment are).
So being surprised by an unorthodox execution of a moment is the first thing that makes football attractive. But of course not only that.
2. The desire to win is inherent in any living being on this planet (and maybe on any other). A person associates himself with his team, and after the victory of the team he himself feels like a winner. «We won!» — he will tell his wife, crawling under the covers after the match. Winning is cool, people love to win, it’s fun again.
3. Let’s go a little deeper. Football is visually beautiful to the eye. Green grass is beautiful. But why? Here our animal essence emerges, sitting very, very deeply.
We are connected with nature, we love nature, and football is one of the most “natural” sports. Maybe that’s why football loses some of its charm when the game is played in an indoor arena. It seems the same green field, but not the same, there is not enough feeling of openness, “realness”. And in the order of delirium — a large open meadow — it is safe at the level of instincts, it calms, there are no predators within sight.
4. Like any other sport, football is a game where you can observe open emotions, a real desire to win, the desire to emerge victorious from every petty combat, irritation from mistakes, bitterness about defeat. And real emotions are always interesting.
