Performance has been dramatically improved despite the visuals also being markedly upgraded, and all the included content added since launch makes for an expansive affair that can easily eat up thirty-plus hours of your time. It’s not quite Diablo, but Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition makes for a worthy stand-in if you’ve exhausted everything there is to do in Sanctuary.

When it comes to the launch games for Microsoft and Sony’s shiny new boxes, Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition seems like an odd choice. After all, it’s a port of a game that was released just over a year ago. Still, it’s hard to argue that it’s not a welcome addition to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S libraries that are largely lacking proper co-op adventures. It’s nothing revolutionary. But with a dash of next-gen polish and a mountain of content to explore, Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition should keep fans of the genre busy for quite some time.

Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition may not be for everyone. It is a grind-based dungeon crawler that relies on the ability to endlessly run through dungeons, earn better loot, and repeat against harder and stronger enemies. For those looking for an enriching story in the world of Warhammer Fantasy there isn’t much to see, which is a shame, but the enjoyment here is based on buying into the gameplay loop. It may wear thin for some, while being a treasure for those who seek nothing but the menial grind of repetitive dungeon-crawling and looting for that never-ending quest of creating the optimal build. While this won’t earn any accolades on the PlayStation 5, this is hardly a title to gloss over, and is worth checking out at the least.

An all-encompassing edition of Warhammer’s latest foray into Diablo style dungeon crawling, Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition struggles to stand out with its grindy gameplay and poor use of the DualSense controller. That said, there is sufficient depth in its character build creation and near endless quest lines that those who can withstand its less agreeable aspects will find much to tide them over.

Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition is an improvement on the base game from last generation, but never truly feels like a next gen title. The added content will make this a worthy upgrade for those who enjoyed the base game, however the game remains too generic in terms of story and far too easy when it comes to gameplay.

As an unashamed Diablo clone, Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition fares better than most. The game performs very well on PS5, enjoying the benefits of a high frame rate and resolution while keeping the hordes of Chaos minions coming, however the core of monotonous gameplay and lack of mission variation keeps this from being considered a classic experience. Fans of the Warhammer world may enjoy this and the amount of content on offer. However, those just looking for something to tide them over until Diablo 4 may find Chaosbane lacking in substance.

The new content and improved technology make this version of the game feel really great. While the storyline is rather average and the game concept is also rather simple, that’s where the atmosphere and fun comes in, in our opinion. Especially with the aspect that you can play the title with friends, a nice round is always pre-programmed in the evening. We liked the new version of «Warhammer: Chaosbane» and you should give the title a chance.… Expand

Since the original version was a solid game (rated 7/10) the new „enhanced“ version makes me very disappointed. When you expect to get a visual enhanced game then just forget it. In comparison Diablo 3 which is years older looks a way better than Chaosbane on PS5. Providing this „enhanced“ edition not as a free upgrade absolutely kicks this release away from any recommendation. This isn’t worth any price tag over the original version (except the both included story expansions).… Expand

Warhammer: Chaosbane, the Warhammer franchise’s class-based Diablo-esque crawler, has been given a June 4 launch date for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. The game will also see two closed betas sometime in March and April.
Those betas are, of course, open only to those who preorder the $59.99 game. Warhammer: Chaosbane is a drop-in cooperative (up to four players) hack-and-slash set in the Warhammer world.

Players will take control of a human, high elf, wood elf or dwarf in the game, somewhat similar to last year’s Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor for PC. Each class has a combat role and a skillset serving it. Players will also use “bloodlust,” described as “a unique mechanic which lets loose a devastating power that can change the outcome of a battle.”
These two videos from December and January, and the gallery of screenshots above, give a better idea of what to expect from Warhammer: Chaosbane, which is developed by Warhammer creator Games Workshop and published by Bigben Interactive.

On May 31, 2019, a new game set in the Warhammer universe was released. This time, Games Workshop licensed the little-known guys from Eko Software, and they made Warhammer: Chaosbane — at first tempting, but later stupid, broken and pointless ARPG.
The plot of Warhammer: Chaosbane is characterized by the pathos of the franchise, a simple plot, tedious development and a pleasantly unexpected twist at the end. The story begins with the battle of the combined forces of humans, elves and dwarves under the control of Emperor Magnus the Righteous against the army of Chaos led by Asavar Kul. The former snatch victory and the wicked give back, but Chaos finds a way to poison Magnus and start a new confrontation. One of the four main characters is called to save the emperor and defeat the forces of Evil again: a tank man, a dwarf berserker, an elf mage and an elf archer. nine0043
It immediately becomes clear that this is a category B game: the plot is presented through hand-drawn pictures — no video sequence and full-fledged cut-scenes. I am glad that each character has their own motivation for action, but most of the story is revealed through boring dialogues with NPCs, where you get lost from the accumulation of names, dates and events already in the first hour of the game. Therefore, the main plot is tracked by the corner of your ear, and you want to skip the monotonous, poorly voiced and snobbishly translated conversations as quickly as possible. nine0043
At first glance, Warhammer: Chaosbane looks like a solid variation of Diablo 3 in the dark style of the classic Waha. A good picture, atmospheric locations and crowds of motley monsters let dust in your eyes. But it gradually turns out that the mobs almost do not change, and the variety, according to the developers, consists in coloring the existing creatures and replacing the color of their skills.
Having scattered a pack or two of minions of Chaos and dealt with the first mini-boss, you begin to notice a big omission of the creators. The fact is that in Warhammer: Chaosbane the hero begins his journey as a super-powerful warrior, so the interest in pumping and gradually increasing the strength of the protagonist is replaced by boring crowds of enemies already on the first map. For the same reason, similar feelings remain in the middle of the game, and at the end, when the hero reaches the maximum level 50. Visually, it changed, the story ended, but according to the impressions of the gameplay, this did not happen. You both cut down hordes of mobs with spectacular skills at the fifth level, and you continue to do it at the 50th, only in other locations. nine0043
Cards made according to several identical templates, “sewn” together in different sequences, become boring almost immediately. We are not talking about any full-fledged generation of levels. In addition, the creators manage to use them several times, for example, changing an ordinary forest to a snowy one.
The local system of leveling and distribution of skills is perceived relatively normally. In addition to the main (active and passive) abilities that are unlocked as you level up, Chaosbane has special deity skills, made in the form of a huge Path Of Exile-style talent tree. These skills are unlocked for collected gold and multi-colored upgrade stones. Both are scattered in abundance throughout the locations. True, there is no sense in intermediate +2% to damage, and additional skills become relatively valuable. nine0043
You have to be careful here, because the local skill system allows you to use only six active and three passive skills at the same time. But even these nine slots are limited by the number of skill points. The bottom line is that weak, medium or powerful skills cost differently, so you can install a couple of super-powerful skills or six weaker ones, but with effects that will give tactical advantages in battle. Here everyone decides for himself, but I found several expensive AOE attacks and squeezed them through the cooldown for almost the entire game, only occasionally experimenting with new skills. nine0043
The four heroes of Warhammer: Chaosbane are tied to their weapons and equipment types, so trying something new will not work. In addition, armor and cannons knocked out from enemies and found in chests only drop on the hero — no non-class closed items can be found.
Chaosbane’s vital equipment system for the ARPG was also ruined, as was the economy, but more on that later. Weapons and armor have their own rarity and are abundantly poured from mobs and chests. But there are no unique sets with the rarest bonuses, and the declared sets give ridiculous bonuses to damage, attack speed, HP and energy replenishment. For example, at 10,000 HP, clothing with +20 health stats will often drop. In the game, you can safely change one weapon to another if it has more green growth numbers for some indicators. Therefore, the most advantageous option is to constantly change equipment — the hero of Warhammer: Chaosbane changes clothes more often than a girl before a first date. nine0043
There are no merchants in Chaosbane. At all. But gold falls out and a lot. At first, I thought that the desired NPC would open further and gradually handed over unnecessary clothes to a representative of some guild, who exchanged them for the same gold, stones and experience. But after going through two of the four chapters, visiting dozens of locations and a couple of hubs, I realized that there was simply no merchant. My terrible guess was confirmed by angry gamers on the game forum on Steam. Apparently they didn’t realize it right away either.
The drop-down gold is only needed to purchase the deity skills described above and to resurrect on the spot after death. If you die on the boss, the game sends you to the beginning of the battle for free. But even if you die very often, there is still a lot of money left. At the end of the story, the hero literally turns into an impotent millionaire whose pockets are filled with money, but he can’t spend it. nine0043
There are four bosses in Chaosbane and this is at least some kind of outlet after boring locations and constantly calling monsters. True, these will also have to be picked for a long time, and the whole difficulty lies in several health bars and three phases of the battle with unpleasant surprises in each. These are far from the best battles with leaders, but after what has been said above, you look forward to such battles like a vacation.
Sad in Warhammer: Chaosbane and endgame content and multiplayer. In the first case, the game is offered to once again go to the same locations and bosses, farm more money, find the best equipment and destroy new packs of Chaos creatures. As you understand, I immediately gave up such «pleasure» and went into co-op mode. True, it was not easy to find a group, and when it did happen, the game “pleased” with a disconnection (after which the party does not rebuild), bugs with quests, departures of partners and other unpleasant things. nine0043
We should also talk about paid DLC with unique clothes, active and passive skills. I got the version with a full set, but if someone wants to spend money on add-ons and various goodies, then I advise you not to do this, because literally all the items purchased are useless and will not be used by any adequate gamer.
For money, the player is offered a pet to collect gold (in fact, he does not collect anything, but just flies around), a crown that changes the style of a headdress, skills for a bonus to gold mining (are you laughing already?), a bonus to gaining experience and an increased drop of multi-colored stones. And if the last two are still at least somehow useful, then the first three are not. But the joke is different — each of these items is inserted into those same limited nine slots, so no one in their right mind will put all these nonsense instead of really useful combat skills or passives for damage to class skills or elements. This means that all purchased items, as I wrote above, are really useless and are designed to extract money from the players. nine0043
There is music in the game and these are adequately bombastic melodies that are great for clearing locations. You shouldn’t expect more from them. The voice acting is weak and inexpressive. The translation is normal, but the localizers were clearly trying to convey the pathos of the franchise and were too clever with the style of speech, old words, phrases that had long gone out of use and confusing sentences.
The picture is nice and detailed enough, but the camera cannot be zoomed in or out, and there are no graphics settings. But Warhammer: Chaosbane flies on any hardware and almost never lags (except for multiplayer). There are bugs, but they are minimal — sometimes the character cannot enter the door or passage, and sometimes the things that fell out of the chest flew out of the map when I tried to take them. nine0043
Warhammer: Chaosbane is a very mediocre, silly, but cute game with dark and franchise-appropriate locations. True, all of them are made anyhow and are inhabited by the same monsters, which are painted for the third time and passed off as new ones. It doesn’t feel like a hero’s journey, which is mandatory for any game, when a character turns from a frail newcomer into an invincible death machine. There is no familiar economy here, and equipment is scarce and has no rare items worth hunting for. But there is an extensive system of talents and good three-phase battles with bosses. It’s a pity, but this is not enough to recommend this game for purchase. Warhammer: Chaosbane is the most wasted 12 hours of my life! nine0043
3DNews Games W Warhammer: Chaosbane — chop harder, th… The most interesting news
The Warhammer Fantasy universe with its eternal war, pathos, a bunch of heroes and demons of various colors, it would seem, is ideal for Action/RPG. However, even the Space Marines received the «diabloid» before the fantasy brethren. Their turn came to Chaosbane. But a popular base is only one (and even then not a necessary) component of an interesting game. How are the others doing? nine0043
The game has been tested on PC It’s been a long time since there were good replacements for Diablo. With the wonderful Reaper of Souls, which brought Diablo 3 to a state close to ideal, few dare to compete. Time passes, but there are still no applicants. A remaster of Titan Quest with a sudden new DLC is, of course, good, but I would like something really fresh. Therefore, fans of the genre must have followed Warhammer: Chaosbane, which, after Gamescom 2018, made a very pleasant impression on me personally. Deceptive, unfortunately. nine0043 Chaosbane begins with the victory of the forces of good over evil — the great warrior Magnus rallied the human race and fought back evil spirits. We enter the game after the whole epic, when the unfinished minions of chaos, scratching bruises, begin to build new intrigues. Chaos sabotage sends Magnus into a magical coma, and now the main character will have to resist evil. Rare nice frame. Don’t get used to it The plot is very poor in terms of events and is inferior to both the latest releases of Diablo and the same Titan Quest. Suspicions that a very boring adventure is ahead creep in already at the stage of choosing an alter ego. Options without surprises: human warrior, gnome berserker, elf archer and elf mage. The developers planned that the passage for each of the heroes would tell about the events from a slightly different angle. In fact, all the differences come down to replicas in the dialogues. nine0043 Of course, no one is going to look for a deep story in a game of this genre, but it’s a shame that the brand’s sublime pathos of the universe was left behind. There is no sense of global conflict, only a handful of heroes running on the trail of another demon, hungry for power. The plot of Warhammer: Chaosbane is faceless and idealess. What’s sad — that’s the whole game. Only the basic game mechanics were successful. The characters, though banal in essence, are unique in their own way. The magician, for example, can direct spells in any desired trajectory. The Warrior, in turn, is excellent at controlling and throwing back the crowd. Each hero has twelve active skills, and all of them have three stages of development. As in Diablo 3, the arsenal is mostly unlocked automatically as you level up. nine0043 The location generator can make the entire level look like a long bridge-corridor Only a limited number of skills can be used. In addition, each of them costs a certain number of points — the total cost of «equipped» skills should not exceed the limits for the character. The cooler you are, the greater the limit, however, even at the maximum level, you cannot assemble a set of only the strongest skill modifications. You have to choose which is more important. Over time, divine gifts are opened — branches of improvements that must be purchased for special crystals. These are mostly small passive upgrades like «+2% damage», but you can also learn a few powerful active and passive abilities. Not to say that the field for improvisation is rich, but it is quite possible to adjust the hero within the same class to a different style of battles. nine0043 It is a pity that on a good basis the authors failed to mix up an interesting action. Chaosbane suffers greatly from the monotony of… everything. Take, for example, monsters. There are only five or six types of them for each of the four plot acts. Moreover, in all chapters the same characters are used, only with a different appearance. It makes absolutely no difference if you’re hitting a zombie, a demon, or a slave of chaos — they all act the same, with no hint of individuality. There are no interesting variations of enemies due to which the game could generate entertaining situations. Even «elite» opponents stand out only with increased thickness and some kind of acidic aura or the ability to summon weak minions. nine0043 Dragon versus dragon The same problem with locations — each outing looks no different from the previous one. Yes, the environment in each act is made in its own style, but there is not even a bit of fantasy in them. Levels are created randomly, and there are critically few blanks for rooms — in a few missions, all this is unbearably annoying. Sometimes the situation reaches the point of absurdity — how do you like the level, which consists entirely of a corridor with several turns? So you run along this thread, grinding the same cannon fodder. nine0043 Finishes off Chaosbane with commonplace equipment. When dressing up a character is boring — this is a death sentence for a Diablo clone. Things are divided into four categories of coolness, from gray to heroic red. Moreover, you will not receive the latter during the first passage of the plot. Meanwhile, only they have some unique properties, and all others differ only in the number of improved indicators. It makes no sense to consider the presence or absence of the unfortunate «+20 to counterattack». When choosing equipment, just see if armor increases overall defense, and new weapons increase attack, that’s all. Convenient, but no excitement. nine0043 The only original finding is that any item is part of a set that can be assembled from even simple white objects. Only the bonuses for them are so ridiculous that there is no reason to bother. Unless it’s worth running after the red things. But, as I mentioned, only by defeating the final boss for the first time, you will open access to better things. Bosses can create a real «bullet hell» All that the game has to offer after the end: run through randomly generated locations in search of the best items to advance to a new level of difficulty to get even more powerful equipment to increase the difficulty even more . And so on, until you reach the maximum, tenth level of difficulty. Who, with such a monotonous process, will do this is a big question. You can also repeat the battles with all the bosses without having to wade through dull locations full of the same dull monsters to get to them. The ringleaders bring at least some variety to the battles and force them to actively use the entire arsenal of skills, but they also get bored quickly. nine0043 The only thing that slightly dispels boredom is a well-designed co-op. The game allows you to gather up to four people in a group, and you can do it locally, as long as there are controllers for everyone. Now it’s easy to find partners on the Web — apparently, they attacked the novelty in the genre with a special hunger for lack of fish. Just how long can Chaosbane keep players? The creators promise to soon add a new mode and character and increase content on an ongoing basis, but this requires total work on many aspects. nine0043 * * * It’s a shame, because the authors really burned with the desire to make a good game — this was perfectly evident in communication with them. But there was not enough either experience, or funds, or all at once. Warhammer: Chaosbane has a good foundation, but it doesn’t have an interesting game. Advantages:
