By what name was Vader: A Star Wars Theory Fan Series (2018) officially released in Canada in English?

    Answer

kinowar.com | Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

The sixth part of the saga, the third picture in the chronology of filming

The time has come for the final battle between the forces of the Rebels and the armies of the Galactic Empire. The forces of evil are completing the construction of the second «Death Star», which should finally close the question of the existence of recalcitrant planets. Emperor Palpatine rushes to personally inspect the construction of this devastating weapon, sending Darth Vader to prepare everything for his arrival. Their plans to capture the soul of young Skywalker remained the same.

Meanwhile, Luke and his friends are on their way to Tatooine to rescue Khan. After an unsuccessful first attempt, as a result of which Han is thawed, but almost everyone is captured, Luke himself enters the battle. Having become noticeably stronger, he voluntarily gives himself into the hands of Jabba. The leader of the gangsters sends the Jedi to be torn to pieces by his pet monster Rancor, but Luke defeats him. After that, he and the rest of his friends are sentenced to death by being eaten by the sand monster Sarlacc.

In the process of preparing for the execution, it becomes clear that everything is going according to the preliminary plan of Khan’s saviors. A battle ensues and the friends inflict a crushing defeat on the smuggling forces. At the hands of Leia, the main Hutt dies, Boba Fett is eaten by the Sarlacc, Khan, Chewbacca and the droids are freed and ready to enter the final battle with the forces of the Empire. To do this, everyone except Luke is sent to the Sullust system, where the Rebel forces are gathering to deliver a decisive blow to the Death Star. The young Jedi is sent back to Yoda to complete his training.

Arriving at Dagobah, Luke discovers that Master Yoda is weak and dying of old age. Before dying, he confirms to young Skywalker that Darth Vader is his father, formerly named Anakin. Yoda also says that Luke has a sister, Leia, who can also become a Jedi and is Force-sensitive. Closing his monologue, Yoda says that Luke will have to fight Darth Vader to become a Jedi, but warns him not to repeat his father’s fate and not succumb to the influence of Emperor Palpatine.

To win the decisive battle, the Rebels must first turn off the force field and destroy the Death Star, which by that time will be the Emperor himself. Luke, Leia, Han, the droids and Chewbacca travel to Endor in order to disable the force field installation. Here they get to know the locals — the Ewoks, who eventually join the Rebels. Luke reveals to Leia the secret of their relationship and family history, and he himself surrenders to the forces of the Empire in order to save his father. Seeing his son, Darth Vader tells him about the inevitability that he will join the Dark Side and together they go to the Death Star.

The Rebel fleet goes on the offensive, waiting for the Death Star’s force field to be disabled. At this time, the Emperor reveals to Luke his insidious plan, saying that his friends on Endor are waiting for a trap, and the Rebel fleet will fall victim to the weapons of the Death Star and the deadly fleet of the Empire. He invites Luke to join the Dark Side of the Force, but Luke refuses. The Emperor says that there is still Leia, which plunges Luke into anger and he attacks the Emperor, the path to which is blocked by Darth Vader. In duel, young Skywalker defeats his father by cutting off his hand. Luke refuses to kill Darth Vader or turn to the dark side of the Force. For this, the Emperor decides to end Luke by firing numerous lightning bolts at him. Unable to see his son’s torment, Darth Vader himself returns to the Light Side and, fulfilling an old prophecy, restores the balance of the Force by killing the Emperor.

Mortally wounded, Darth Vader, now Anakin Skywalker again, asks his son to take off his mask so he can see Luke for himself. He says that he was right about him, and asks to tell his daughter about it, after which he dies.
After an incredible effort, the force field is successfully disabled. This makes the Death Star vulnerable again. Lando Calrissian on the Millennium Falcon manages to hit the main reactor, and this sets off a chain reaction. Lucu leaves the collapsing station with his father’s body and travels to Endor.

The Galactic Empire is destroyed, the Emperor has fallen, Darth Vader has been reborn. The entire Galaxy Distant celebrates the victory by tearing down the statues of the usurper. A lavish celebration of the rebels’ triumph takes place on Endor. At the same time, Anakin’s body is burned, as is the custom in ancient Jedi tradition. Leaving his body, he becomes one with the Force and his Jedi friends. Luke sees him and the other Jedi together, happy and seeing that the desired balance has been achieved.

A new phase has begun in the history of the galaxy.

May George Lucas be with you!

    DENIS KORSAKOV

The KP correspondent watched the most anticipated film of the year and tried to understand why Princess Leia and Han Solo were made old, why Luke Skywalker was replaced by the girl Rey, and when the Death Star was turned into Starkiller 5

George Lucas directed and/or produced the first six Star Wars films and was driven by inspiration. The first trilogy, for my taste, was perhaps the greatest in the history of world cinema. In the second, released at the end of 90s and early 2000s (about the childhood, adolescence and youth of Darth Vader), Lucas often changed his taste: some of the dialogue sounded stupid, the characters were ridiculous. But all the same, inspiration was always felt, even if it was a child playing in the sandbox. Well, then he got tired and announced that there would be nothing more to shoot about Star Wars. I thought a little more — and in 2012 I sold my studio to Lucasfilm and all the rights to the characters of the Walt Disney studio for four billion dollars. And from that moment on, Star Wars films were again given the green light: they will now be released every year to recoup the billions invested and make a lot more money.

    J. J. Abrams, who made Star Wars with virtually no support from Lucas. Episode VII. Awakening the Force,” fear drove. It was too scary to approach the main space saga of the twentieth century. On the one hand, Star Wars gave birth to a real religious cult, Jediism, and I would not want to offend its adherents (as well as the legions of calmer, still retaining their sanity fans). On the other hand, Abrams could not set up the Disney company, which invested monstrous money in the shooting and promotion of the new Star Wars. According to some estimates, the film now needs to gross $1.5 billion at the box office in order to pay off — such is crazy Hollywood accounting. Of course, six years ago Abrams successfully relaunched another cult space opera, Star Trek, on the big screen — but there the cult was thinner, and the money was not spinning so crazy, and the responsibility was not pressing as hard. As a result, Abrams is incredibly cautious. He tries to follow the proven canons as accurately as possible, steps on tiptoe, as if on quicksand, being afraid to take sharp steps to the left, to the right, or, God forbid, forward; Basically it spins in place.

The Force Awakens takes place nearly 40 years after the original Star Wars, but follows its exact plot. With a slight correction: now the main character is not a young man named Luke, but a girl named Rey. But she, too, lives in poverty on a desert planet, also finds a droid that carries wildly important information, also sided with the Resistance (now instead of the Rebel Alliance), fighting the gloomy First Order (now instead of the Galactic Empire), and also participates in a special operation to destroy the Death Star. However, it is now called Starkiller. Heroes ask themselves: what’s the difference? And here’s what: on a visual holographic diagram, the old Death Star is the size of a baked apple, and the new high-tech Starkiller is the size of a record holder pumpkin, and with its shot it can destroy not one planet, but almost an entire galaxy. And, you won’t believe it, it destroys (although it cannot be said that this is a very impressive sight: when the same Abrams in Star Trek turned the planet Vulcan into a black hole, it looked much more spectacular).

The safest, of course, is to be frankly nostalgic, so closer to the middle of the film, the audience’s attention gently switches to the aged Han Solo and Princess Leia (now called General Leia Organa). Everyone knows that the heroes of Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher were in love, and in the finale of the very first trilogy, they kind of found happiness in each other’s arms. Now the wrinkled actors, around which the rusted robots C3PO and R2D2 are hovering, are hugging again, and this should evoke tenderness in the viewer. And it is annoying: Han and Leia were not supposed to age. Time destroys everything, but in the fantasy world of Star Wars, they could stay forever young. And the question is spinning in my head: did Khan and Leia shed blood for three films and fill bumps, so that in their old age they would find themselves in exactly the same situation “the rebels came to the dance” as in their youth?

There is also Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker. Already in the preface to the film (yellow letters crawling into the starry distance) it is reported that Luke has disappeared somewhere; and the whole film will be devoted to his search. It won’t be a big spoiler to say that he will be found — after all, the fact that Hamill will star in this film was known three years ago, and everyone knows that his name is in the credits. They will find him — and his face will also be like a baked apple.
Once upon a time, Hamill, Fisher, and Ford effortlessly towed the original Star Wars. Now they are calmly dragging new ones. There is no competition from young actors (Daisy Ridley, John Boyego, Adam Driver): those have about zero charisma. Even the underwhelming actor Hayden Christensen in the second trilogy was able to cope with the role allotted to him, and it is difficult now to imagine someone else playing the role of young Darth Vader. Here, for the next film, you can completely replace all the young — and everyone will be on the drum.

There are already voices of angry critics that the new Star Wars should not have been filmed at all: they say, the topic has been exhausted to the bottom. In fact, it is, of course, inexhaustible: in the first trilogy, Lucas managed to saturate each series with new adventures, landscapes, devices and characters. But he, sorry for the big word, worked. And J.J. Abrams just worked carefully, trying to please everyone. Lucas felt like a master in the Star Wars world, and Abrams felt like a timid guest (“Oh, I can’t keep track of my felt boots here? Can I take this vase in my hands? Thank you. No, no, I’ll blow off the dust and I’ll put it in its place, don’t worry.»
The next film, which will be released in the spring of 2017, will be directed by Looper author Rian Johnson. It’s too early to hope that the Force will be with him. But at least he may not be paralyzed by his overly responsible, difficult and thankless mission to reboot Star Wars. At the very least, find the courage to say something new.

Star Wars. Episode VII. The Force Awakens should raise one and a half billion just to justify all the funds invested in it — despite the fact that the budget of the picture was only 200 million. Do not ask how this can happen — just believe that it can. Hollywood accounting is unthinkably complex, a normal person cannot understand it: it happens that a studio receives a net profit of only a few tens of millions from a film that grossed a billion at the box office. So now Walt Disney is terribly worried about the fate of the new Star Wars. And, probably, in vain: many analysts predict the film’s worldwide fees of at least two billion.

Work is underway on two more sequels to The Force Awakens (together they form a new, already third trilogy). In addition, films about individual characters will be released with the subtitle «Star Wars: An Anthology».
Outcast is coming soon, directed by Godzilla author Gareth Edwards; the action takes place between «Episode III» and «Episode IV», one of the characters is Darth Vader.

A film about the youth of Han Solo is being prepared, all promising young Hollywood actors are being auditioned for the role, including Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Logan Lerman, Miles Teller.
In 2020, they plan to release a separate film about Boba Fett. In general, there is no doubt that Walt Disney will beat off its four billion very quickly.

«Star Wars» was born in pain: Lucas struggled with the script for several years. In 1971, Universal agreed to sign a contract with Lucas to make two films, American Graffiti and Star Wars. «Graffiti» Lucas took off (they immediately brought him fame), and «Star Wars» Universal, on reflection, refused. But Lucas himself did not refuse and continued to fiddle with the script. In the first versions, the hero was either a girl, or a 60-year-old officer, or a dwarf. Then, nevertheless, he became a young man, and Lucas called him Luke Starkiller (“killer of the stars”), and Father Annikin turned out to be his mentor. Then, instead of the father, a stranger appeared — Ben Kenobi. As a result of endless tinkering with the script, Ben became Obi-Wan, and Luke became Skywalker («walking in the sky»).

Lucas soon realized that his ideas would not fit into one film: he has at least three trilogies of them, and the script of the film he is currently writing is the beginning of the second. (Therefore, the very first Star Wars came out in 1977 under the disconcerting title Episode IV: A New Hope, and from Lucas’s point of view, it was like a novel opened up in the middle. )
Not a single studio wanted to take on the film — oddly enough, in the mid-70s it seemed that it was difficult to “sell” a fantastic picture to the public. And only the head of 20th Century Fox, Alan Ladd Jr., believed in the project (mainly because he loved American Graffiti). He allocated a modest budget of $8 million, then, when it turned out that this was not enough, reluctantly threw in three more.

The film grossed 300 million at the box office. Taking into account re-releases and inflation, it turns out that today “Star Wars. Episode IV A New Hope is the second most popular film in the US, grossing nearly $1.5 billion in total. Ahead of them — only «Gone with the Wind» (1.6 billion).

The great English actor Alec Guinness played in the first film Obi-Wan Kenobi, the mentor of the young Luke Skywalker. According to legend, he considered these shoots to be one of the most disgusting experiences of his life; the Shakespeare-bred actor shivered, uttering what seemed to him «lousy lines» and himself insisted that his character be killed at the end — if only he would never act in sequels. George Lucas has a different version: he claims that Guinness liked to star in Star Wars, and he himself, on his own initiative, killed Obi-Wan in the script. One way or another, Guinness was nominated for an Oscar, then played in sequels (his character returned as a ghost), and now millions of young people who have never seen Guinness on stage and in classic films know him for this role.
In general, Lucas dreamed that the role of Obi-Wan was played by Toshiro Mifune, a Japanese actor who played in Akira Kurosawa’s film «Three Scoundrels in a Hidden Fortress» (this historical drama, oddly enough, was a source of inspiration for the author of «Star Wars»). The word «Jedi» was borrowed from the Japanese «jidaigeki» — «historical drama». By the way, Princess Leia in Lucas’s fantasies was also Japanese for some time.

Khan was originally supposed to be a big noseless green monster. Then Lucas changed his mind — he decided to make him human and black. After trying several actors, he changed his mind again: he decided that Khan should be white. He thought about: Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, John Travolta, Kurt Russell, Nick Nolte, Christopher Walken, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray — well, he went through all the then young Hollywood stars. When they all refused, Lucas remembered Harrison Ford, who starred in American Graffiti. He turned out to be the perfect candidate.
In general, Lucas eventually wrote the character from life: oddly enough, his close friend, director Francis Ford Coppola, became the prototype.
Harrison Ford on the eve of the release of «The Force Awakens» said that he starred in the new film mainly for the fee. In general, he is now mostly busy not with Star Wars, but with the continuation of Blade Runner, which, with the blessing of Ridley Scott, is being shot by Canadian director Denis Villeneuve.

Mark Hamill got on the set in a rather strange way. His friend, actor Robert Englund (who would later play Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street) was at the studio auditioning for a role in Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. And there were tests for Star Wars. Englund stopped, took a closer look, thought that Mark would be perfect for the role of Skywalker, called him, advised him to offer his services to Lucas. And they took Hamill.
A week before filming ended, he was in a serious car accident. In the few scenes where he did not have time to act, he had to be replaced by doubles. Hamill’s face was seriously damaged — it is clear that in «The Empire Strikes Back» and «Return of the Jedi» the hero looks completely different. However, if desired, this can be attributed to the “growing up” of Luke Skywalker, who in the first part is a young man, and in others he is already an experienced warrior.
For Hamill, as well as for all other actors (except Guinness and Ford) «Star Wars» became the main success in life. The English-speaking public knows him from his roles in cartoons (he, in particular, was the Joker in the animated version of Batman).

The main villain and the most tragic figure in Star Wars was actually played by six actors. In the first trilogy, bodybuilder David Prowse appears on the screen in a raincoat and helmet; however, in the action scenes, stuntman Bob Anderson is in costume. Vader is voiced by actor James Earl Jones (who at first demanded that his name not be mentioned in the credits — he considered that the contribution was too insignificant). And when in Return of the Jedi Darth Vader’s helmet is removed before he dies, we see the face of actor Sebastian Shaw.
Little Anakin Skywalker (in the trilogy about the childhood and youth of Darth Vader) was played by Jake Lloyd, selected from 3000 child actors; he appeared in The Phantom Menace. He was replaced by Hayden Christensen in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
The name Darth Vader is, in essence, a modified Dark Father («Dark Father»). There are, however, legends that Lucas borrowed the name from Ivan Efremov’s novel «The Andromeda Nebula» or its Soviet film adaptation — there the hero, though positive, was called Darr Veter.

All original episodes of the saga were released
without taking into account the chronological sequence of the story. For new viewers, we have compiled a short guide to the series.

Episode I: The Phantom Menace (film released in 1999). Anakin Skywalker, a boy from the backwater planet Tatooine, discovers the presence of the Force in himself and enters training with the Jedi Knights Qui Gon-Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. He meets the young princess Padmé Amidala.

Episode II: Attack of the Clones (film released in 2002). Ten years have passed since the events of The Phantom Menace. Grown up Anakin Skywalker finally falls in love with Padmé Amidala and marries her.

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (movie released in 2005). Anakin Skywalker, succumbing to anger and fear (as well as the persuasion of the insidious Chancellor Palpatine), goes over to the Dark Side of the Force and takes the name Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s former mentor cuts off both of his legs and his left arm during the battle; the battle takes place among the lava flows, and Darth Vader also receives terrible burns. From now on, he can only live in a helmet and a black armor suit equipped with a life support system. His wife Padmé Amidala dies in childbirth. But the children are alive: in the future they will become Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa, but they will not know about their origin right away.

«Episode IV: A New Hope» (film released in 1977). On the planet Tatooine lives a poor but noble young man, Luke Skywalker. Two droids, C3PO and R2D2, are placed at his disposal. C3PO carries the most important message from Princess Leia Organa to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke delivers the droid to Obi-Wan and becomes his apprentice. Then he personally meets Leia and the smuggler pilot Han Solo, who will soon become his friend and ally. In the finale, Luke and Khan destroy the Death Star, the monstrous weapon of the Galactic Empire, which is personified by the monstrous Darth Vader.

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (film released in 1980). Darth Vader and the rebels (Luke, Leia, Han and a crowd of sympathizers) continue to fight. Luke meets Master Yoda, a green koala-shaped old man who tells him about the Force that governs the Universe and which can be used by the chosen ones — the Jedi Knights. Luke is just one of the elect; he is being trained by Yoda. And in the finale, there is a lightsaber battle between Darth Vader and Luke. Vader cuts off Luke’s hand and immediately reveals his little secret, saying the famous words: «Luke, I am your father.» He offers his son to go to the dark side of the force, but Luke, of course, cannot go for this.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
(film released in 1983). It turns out that not only Luke is the son of Darth Vader, but also Leia is his daughter. There is another, final clash between Luke and Vader; as a result, the latter still goes back to the Light Side, kills the nefarious Emperor Palpatine and dies enlightened. In the finale, Luke sees his smiling ghost in the company of the ghosts of Obi-Wan (who died in «Episode IV») and Master Yoda (who died of old age in «Episode VI»).

Episode VII: The Force Awakens (released 2015). More than 30 years have passed since the events described in the previous film. The peace that had reigned was broken — now the First Order strives to take over the Universe, and the Resistance opposes it (the balance of forces is exactly the same as between the bad Galactic Empire and the good Rebel Alliance in A New Hope). New heroes — the girl Rey and the former stormtrooper Finn, who went over to the side of the forces of good due to his subtle mental organization and complete inability to commit murder. They are helped by Princess Leia and Han Solo (Luke Skywalker hid somewhere, his location has to be calculated throughout the film). Although Vader had long since passed away, another villain took his place, a notorious young man named Kylo Ren; he adores the legendary villain, imitates him in everything (in particular, he wears a helmet and a black cloak, in which there is no direct need) and dreams of «completing what he started» Darth Vader.
