Best game ever made

This game sets the bar for all next gen video games.

The graphics are outstanding. The voice acting is flawless. The attention to detail throughout is incredible. The game-play is very smooth ( Shooting, climbing, fighting), the driving is a little hard to adjust to at first but you adapt. The camera angles have been improved from previous games. Stealth plays a bigger part than before but is an optional approach to each encounter. The environments are larger and more diverse.

The game is the longest uncharted game and a must buy for all ps4 owners.

Even for an excellent company like Naughty Dog, they really outdone themselves. They chose an appropriate way to end the amazing adventures of Nathan Drake. The multiplayer also plays very smooth and is very fun.

If you’re looking for an action packed, emotional and challenging adventure game with beautiful scenery, look no further than Uncharted 4. A thief’s end.

have been working on video games since the mid-80s. This world-famous studio has experienced both ups and downs. And only nine years ago, with the release of the first part of Uncharted for the young and promising PlayStation 3 console, the developers caught their finest hour. It’s funny, but once Uncharted was considered «Tomb Raider with a man.» However, this is what elevated Naughty Dog to the «ranks of the big leagues», where already at that time fat companies like Rockstar and Blizzard sat in deep solitude for many years.

And most importantly, the Uncharted series has shown players in a new way what adventure and the Adventure genre in general are all about! There was no such parkour, along with amazing acrobatics, as in the Assassin’s Creed series. There was no deep pumping and open world Tomb Raider. In Uncharted, you could fool around and really feel the taste of adventure: the incredible beautiful greenery of the distant jungle, the sound of the surf, funny apt jokes about forgotten pirate treasures and cities lost a long time ago. Yes, and mysticism, in the form of experiments of the Third Reich, was present, something to hide.

You can even draw an analogy from the world of cinema, because the old classic Uncharted series is an exact copy of the Indiana Jones adventures. Stories about a great adventurer and smart treasure hunter. This is how Nathan Drake is presented in Uncharted. In addition, it is he who is a distant descendant of the most famous pirate named Francis Drake. Yes, and in Uncharted there is no pseudo-historical torment, or a penny drama — there are fascinating, interesting and funny archaeological stories, jokes about the Etruscans and Mughals. And instead of eternally serious and “stone” faces like Tomb Raider, there is intrigue, a living detective story, where there are investigations, chases, betrayals and unexpected plot twists.

Drawing the Indiana Jones analogy, many fans might be starting to get nervous by now, because deep down there might already be fears that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End might be just as bad as the fourth an Indiana Jones movie called Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? It seems to be nonsense, but if we add to this the fact that the main screenwriter, art director and several other important people left the studio recently, then the success of the last part is in doubt. Oh yes, and the development of the game has dragged on for more than one year … In general, many are now waiting for trouble and are afraid to be disappointed in the last part of Nathan Drake’s adventures.

But I’m not really an intriguer. So if you are really a fan or a fan of Drake’s adventures and really did not doubt the success of the last part before these words, then it’s time to discard all negative thoughts regarding the final part of the series. This is not just a great conclusion to the series — it is one of the main contenders for the game of the year! One of the best games ever developed for PlayStation 4. Maybe that’s even one of the reasons to go and buy a console right now.

So, every self-respecting gamer and true connoisseur of video games has in mind a few developers whose games are looking forward to. One such studio is Naughty Dog. Their new project called Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is released on May 10 exclusively for PS4 consoles, and with Russian localization (what could be better?). «The Way of a Thief» is not for nothing called the «final part», because it completes the story of the fearless adventures of old Drake and finally puts a huge, significant point in the series.


A Thief’s Way


The story of Uncharted 4 starts three years after the events that took place in Uncharted 3. Adventurer Nathan Drake has been living without his favorite adventures for several years now. He just decided to take up his personal life, like any normal person: he married the haunting journalist Elena and now in the evenings he “pushes” funny stories from his life, for example, how he drowned a 21st century transport in a river, where by chance there were three tons of metal coils.

The former great treasure hunter, who found the legendary Shangri-La and Eldarado, is now busy looking for non-ferrous metal at the bottom of the river silt. And in his free time, he now sits bored in a small office, prints forms for a report on the work done and drinks beer, sitting on the couch dreaming of some distant countries.

In fact, the plot of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is an amazing collection of all Drake’s adventures. At every turn, Nathan’s «dark deeds» from the past are constantly hinted at. And most importantly: even if you are not in the spirit of why this guy is so popular among adventurers and mercenaries — the fourth part still finds the right way to explain it.

Wealthy adventurers, suddenly resurrected older brother, principled mercenaries, Latin American drug mafia, pirate treasure, the legendary Libertalia, a secret brotherhood named «Prudent Rogue Dismas» — literally retell everything! But it all adds up to one huge story that wanders from game to game and everything is so interesting, like watching old Indiana Jones movies. None of the players will be left behind. You are simply taken and placed in the center of these events, where the understanding of all things takes place.

The production deserves special attention — it is excellent. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End tries to constantly keep the player on their toes, but it also changes the pace of the game. As soon as everything calms down and nothing portends trouble, a shootout immediately begins. Or, at first glance, a simple puzzle captivates for tens of minutes, from which a little later you simply admire the sharpness of your mind!

A unique image of an action movie and an intellectual game is being created. The game may at some point say that now you are not an adventurer and not even a master of firearms, but a real archaeologist, an inexorable tomb raider, a professional in his field who knows history, geography, Latin well and just a person who, due to his «braininess» inferior even to scientists.


What a scale!


The ambitions of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End are huge. The focus is not only on adventures and the search for specific treasures, but on the whole life of Nathan Drake. As mentioned above — with all the ensuing «dark dealings» and «skeletons in the closet.» The surroundings are the most picturesque corners of the world. Actors are almost the main characters. The developers from Naughty Dog tried to make sure that the game was not only rich in all the inherent details of the series, but also that the fan service was understandable to beginners, because fans do not need to explain for a long time.

In addition, the main goal in A Thief’s End was to make players feel like they were part of not just another adventure, but the completion of a whole series of games … a big, grandiose and very important series!

And in order to feel the colossality and scale, it was necessary to slow down, because it is incredibly difficult to restrain the ever-increasing tension. Therefore, that the second Uncharted, that the third — everything was held in a hurry. The players were driven simply by «packs» of known and unknown pursuers. Constant action in the form of collapsing levels and non-stop gunfights, which again haunted. For a moment it might have seemed that some kind of caretaker was standing nearby, shouting into something like a mouthpiece: “Run, forest, run!”.

In fact, in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, this is again, although if it weren’t, what kind of Uncharted would it be?! However, now this constant action is interesting and can even pass without firing a shot. And action-filled chapters alternate with episodes, which in turn consist of scenes with dialogues and free walks.

Locations have now changed and become more spacious. Now there is an opportunity to go not on the main path. You can walk, for example, through the streets and admire the local beauty. The passage from this only became more interesting. The fourth part can now be called a full-fledged adventure, and not just a game where for the most part you have to run from one control point to another.

Screenwriter Amy Henning from Naughty Dog Studios, who is involved in the development of the first three parts of the Uncharted series, once told how they manage to create really meaningful and spectacular events. It turns out that all these breathtaking moments are thought out even before the plot begins to be created. Although, it would seem, what good can come out of these pieces? However, by arranging the pieces of the puzzle in the form of events and plot in this way, it turns out to create an unforgettable, interesting and exciting adventure. So what is it for? The bottom line is that the old writers did not take part in the development of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, because they were replaced by new writers, so the manner of narration has changed a lot. It has changed so much that it immediately catches the eye. And although it seems that such a change has hurt the game, in reality it is not so at all. Figuratively, the change in the narrative can be called a «breath of fresh air. » This «sip» allows you to captivate fans of the series in a new way and will not leave newcomers alone.

In addition to the classic chapters, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End can be divided into full four acts. During each such act, old Nathan Drake is constantly moving inexorably towards his main goal — to the legendary pirate colony called Libertaria, which is rumored to be lost somewhere in Africa. Each act contains truly powerful action moments (I won’t spoil it, but they are really exciting). You can only compare the long storyline, with all the details of exploration, action and other things, with The Last of Us, and for the final part it fits like no other game.

However, not everything is as smooth as it might seem, and in some places the new scriptwriters still lose out to the old ones. In particular, this applies to dialogues. The dialogue in the fourth part lacks some kind of “sparkle” that would help to laugh out loud and make you write down Drake’s quotes in some notebook. Maybe Nathan Drake has aged, or maybe over the years he has lost his sense of humor. Who knows…

Fortunately, this nuance is covered by the quality of the characters. In fact, the voice actors of the characters are well into their role and give incredibly high-quality characters. For example, Sam Drake, played by Troy Baker, is really something of a find. This character combines several details: sobriety of mind, unpredictability, frivolity. All this is well emphasized in the course of the next picture. You can take even more charismatic characters — the rich man Reya and the fighting Nadine. This is really the same couple: spoiled kids with the wealth of a generous dad, who want to prove with all their might how much they are superior to the rest. And what is most important in all this is that the goal of any villain is banal and interesting. Each of them seeks only to simply cash in, although sometimes they may be driven by some personal motives, such as revenge.


Freedom, sweet freedom


By the way, Naughty Dog’s experience in The Last of Us turned out to be very useful for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and this affected not only the storyline. Take the structure of levels as an example: the same type of locations, where there was one single path, went into complete oblivion. Now you can go and admire everything around more than one path. And this is not to mention the fact that during the passage there are various kinds of hiding places, small branches of each such road and just a different design — variety in a word.

As a couple, it can take time to find some way, which makes you rack your brains, waste time. The bottom line is that earlier it was impossible to stray and wander at one point, because the players were constantly moving forward and, moreover, they were also driven. But in addition to freedom in locations, there was also some freedom in dialogues: it became possible to talk with your partners. This makes it possible to shed a little «light» on the lives of these people, on their problems and much more. In general, it’s interesting.

And by the way, a full, so to speak «dawn» of levels begins with a mission, which takes place in Madagascar. This mission was just shown shortly before the release to the visiting journalists. The bottom line is this: given a large plain, on the territory of which there are outposts, winding paths, and even transport is present. To put it bluntly — go wherever you want, and do everything exactly the same. However, you still have to move forward gradually, there is still a little pressure.

You can also see how the Naughty Dog studio uses ideas from other games. This is very good. For example, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End directly cites the work that has been done in the following games: the Far Cry series, Hitman, Metal Gear Solid V, and a few other games. In addition, many details of the gameplay occur a couple of times and that’s it. They don’t get bored. They just leave a pleasant experience: jeep riding, underwater stages, daylight thefts, exploration of abandoned houses and palaces. Everything is done so that the player was interested. It is interesting to go through, it is interesting to delve into all these details.

I remember that the series was constantly criticized for the abundance of shootings, supposedly, what kind of adventure is this, where the main character is able to destroy the army of fierce thugs? So, in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s Way, the shootouts are still the same intense, noisy, but the number of these shootouts has been reduced by about half. However, so that these places for these shootouts would not be empty, it was decided to close them with much more intricate showdowns with enemies: there used to be various kinds of shelters, and now various kinds of abysses, multi-level buildings, destructible objects and much more are scattered across the levels.

The level of involvement in the gameplay also increases thanks to the new ballistics along with the artificial intelligence of enemies. You will have to get used to many details of the new part of the series. However, to see a clear difference, you need to play from the average level of difficulty. At such levels, you will have to act much more carefully, and this is not to mention the maximum level of difficulty, where you already need to carefully calculate each step, as if you are playing Hotline Miami.

If you simply reject all gunshot skirmishes with your head, then a quieter option will probably suit you, because now in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s Way you can neutralize enemies without a single noise, leaving only neatly folded bodies behind. Of course, we are not talking about cool stealth here, it is not so deep, so it cannot reach the level of Metal Gear Solid V, but for that it works like a native! But it was not without some ridiculous moments. For example, there are no pistols with silencers. Enemies, despite all their intelligence, are a little dumb when you are in tall grass right under their noses, or right under a ledge. Although this is far from new, because this happens even in games that are literally imprisoned for stealth. So everything is quite acceptable — a sin that can be committed by anyone.

A bit of «crooked» stealth does not interfere with building a real plan and acting clearly on tactics. On the contrary, the stealth that has been introduced is useful. Sometimes it happens that stealth is forced, either by an achievement or by a task. In Uncharted 4: The Way of a Thief, everything is simple: the understanding comes to you that now you need to do “this way and not that way”. In addition, some skirmishes are completely avoidable: there are loopholes that allow you to avoid entire blockades that consist of enemies.


Spirit of Adventure


So who cares what Nathan Drake does in his spare time? Free time from combat is usually spent on improving acrobatics and solving puzzles — this is all quite in the spirit of the Uncharted series. In order to somehow diversify these details, the classic cat hook was called to the rescue. This little thing is a completely new item in the arsenal of the protagonist. You will not have to part with him for the whole game. Riddles in turn are also related to the new subject. Usually, the grappling hook makes it possible to typically swing, as it should, in order to catch the hands on some comfortable ledge at a higher level, or something else: pull up an object, destroy an old beam, and stuff like that. In fact, the most effective use case for this item was the game demo at last year’s E3. Nothing sensible in the form of an example can be found anymore.

And I won’t stray too far from The Last of Us, because there are puzzles in the form of moving boxes. An old puzzle in a new format. It does not bring any trouble, but there is no special benefit either — just variety. This happens only a couple of times per game, but no more.

And any fan will really appreciate the fact that in addition to such a huge number of trailers and gameplay, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is still prone to pleasant and unexpected surprises. In fact, the story of Nathan Drake has already acquired some incomprehensible sentimental value. This applies not only to true fans of the series, but in general to everyone. There is a lot of evidence, the main thing is to notice. For example, take Drake’s attic, which is literally littered to the top with various kinds of treasures, photographs, personal diaries with notes, and much more.

The difference between this game and other similar games is that here even seemingly unnecessary little things create a lively atmosphere. Take, for example, the unexpected continuation of the story of the Panamanian prison, which is only briefly mentioned in «Drake’s Destiny». Or an even more interesting moment: a smoking nun who, from the knock on the door, threw a cigarette out the window. All these seemingly petty details create a lively atmosphere. So pay attention to the details, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End encourages this.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is a game to watch. Local landscapes will turn anyone into delight, especially those who love graphic art. To really understand how beautiful the game looks, you need to play. Of course, this applies to all the details of the fourth part, but the graphics here are special. I’m ready to argue in the comments with anyone that when screenshots of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End finally start to “merge” on the Internet, someone will confuse the game with reality.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is truly a perfect adventure and a story about an interesting adventurer. There are simply no examples of such an adventure now at the time of 2016. Naughty Dog Studio has once again made a game that deserves the title of «Game of the Year» in many ways. It’s just impossible to believe that these people still haven’t lost their talent like some other developers. “Way of the Thief” is the case when the bar was raised high, and they just took it and jumped over it. The game doesn’t just live up to expectations — it’s shocking, but in a good way. Twisted plot, a huge number of new and interesting details. A story that can tell about everything that happened in the series and just a stunning picture. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is a game that deserves not only the money that is demanded for it, but also just a good word to its side.
