Twitch streamers have a ton of options on how they can interact with viewers. One of those options is to make someone VIP on Twitch. A VIP is someone who receives a badge and other benefits such as being able to chat in slow mode, sub-only mode, or followers-only mode.

It’s really important for streamers to have loyal viewers. There are a number of ways to reward loyal viewers, but one of them is the VIP role. If a streamer completes the “Build a Community” achievement by reaching 50 followers and 5 unique chatters, they can assign the VIP role to 10 of their loyal viewers. The more unique chatters a streamer has, the more VIP slots the streamer can give out.

There is an award for good performance. Streamers are rewarded with VIP slots based on the number of unique chatters in their chat per five new chatters. For each 5 new chatters, they will earn 10 more VIP slots and then 10 more at 50 new chatters. At 200 unique chatters, they will receive 100 total VIP slots.

How does VIP work on Twitch

Being a VIP member on Twitch is the next best thing to being a celebrity. Giving VIP to viewers gives them special badges and chat features that allow them to chat in specific situations. They can chat during a slow chat, sub-only chat, and follower-only chat. They can also share links to chats even if link sharing is turned off.

The VIP badge is an easy way for you to stand out! It will let your followers know that you are one of their favorites. However, this privilege is not without rules. VIPs must still abide by chat guidelines and can be timed out if they go too long off-topic or break any other type of rule.

The easiest way to confer the VIP status on someone is by typing /vip  <username> into your channel’s chat

Anyone you choose to moderate/VIP your channel can be a moderator. Just like most other social media applications, Twitch doesn’t have any criteria for assigning roles. Similarly, if you wish to be the moderator for some other channel, all you need to do is contact its administrator.

How to Get the Twitch VIP Badge

To get the VIP badge in a channel, you must find ways to bring value to a channel. While this will look different in every community, there are a few things you can do to stand out.

  • Keep Messaging in Chat

Stay a strong part of the community. Talk naturally with the streamer and other people in chat. Ask people about their day or react to the content on stream.

  • caution

    Don’t Be Toxic

If you continually spam chat, bully others, or try to post links in chat, you will most likely not be given the badge

  • streetsign

    Welcome New Viewers

Welcome people when they join chat for the first time. Talk to them and get them excited about joining the streamer’s community.

  • Help on Discord

Find ways to help the Discord community. Engage in conversation, post relevant memes, and share clips from the stream.

  • megaphone

Share the Stream With Your Friends

Retweet Going live posts, ask your friends to visit the channel, and consider purchasing merch to promote the stream.

Remember that even if you do all these things, you may not get a badge, especially if it is a larger channel. There are limited badges available and many people are bettering the stream.

Don’t ask to be given a badge, especially over chat. Bringing up VIP badges can be uncomfortable for streamers, especially on channels with an active community and a limited amount of badges.

Twitch VIP Perks

If you are given the VIP badge in a Twitch channel, you will be able to do the following:

  • Chat regardless of rate limits
  • Post links in chat (even when the ability is disabled)
  • Chat regularly even in sub-only, followers-only, or slow mode

Conclusion

Focus on helping a streamer because you are passionate about their content. If you receive a badge for your efforts, that is awesome. Understand, however, that your efforts are still appreciated even if you do not receive a badge.
