The World
Overview
Years ago, the Heroes of Torchlight saved the world from the ancient evil, Ordrak. Now someone has stolen the essence of his power, and is using it to upset the balance of the six elements. After witnessing the destruction wrought by this terrible artifact, you’ll begin a quest to uncover the villain’s identity and avert disaster.
The trail leads from the beleaguered Estherian Steppes, through the war-torn Mana Wastes, and the haunted ruins of an ancient dwarven civilization, before descending to a realm where no mortal has set foot for thousands of years and where an even more terrible evil struggles to unleash itself onto the world.

Torchlight 2 features a robust Multiplayer cooperative mode. You can join friends or strangers in interactive adventures across a series of randomly-created Dungeons.

getting online and finding a game
You enter the Internet play interface after selecting Resume from the game’s startup screen.
You will need a free Runic account to play over the Internet. Traditional LAN party options are also available. Once logged in you’ll see a selection of games. Rows marked with a lock icon are private and require a password to play. Some games will appear available but may have filled out by the time you click on them. You’ll see the message above in these cases.

Once you enter the world you’ll need to locate the other players.

Clicking on any Waypoint will open a teleportation interface. By clicking the green icon next to a character, you cam instantly teleport to that player’s position.
Other players’ names appear over their heads. Their status bars are visible on the top-left of your display.
how do i communicate?
You can communicate with other players through a built-in chat interface.
Press ENTER to initiate a chat message, and after typing your comment, press ENTER again to send it. If you are playing on Steam, the usual voice chat options work fine as well.
Online Basics

Every piece of loot you see dropped online belongs to you. Loot is instanced, so each player only sees Gear applicable to their character on their display. So grab everything in sight!
Online enemies are tougher versions of their single-player ilk. Enemy Health and attack power fluctuates based on the number of allies nearby. Be especially wary of your Health online. Even minion-level foes pack a big punch. Work together with fellow players to take down enemies, and share healing whenever you can.
What’s happening in multiplayer?
Multiplayer is a lot like single player. You have the same combat options and dungeons to explore, but every character recieves full XP for every nearby kill. Cooperation is important. Characters with healing abilities strengthen teammates, while those with battlefield control powers can slow or stun enemies and create openings for the melee fighters and help protect the ranged DPS characters.
Teaming up with characters slightly above your level is a marvelous way to quickly accumulate better loot and XP. And if you are feeling generous, you might want to seek out slightly lower level characters and give them a helping hand through the dungeons.
