The Division 2: How to Get The Chameleon Exotic AR
The Division 2 follows an episodic structure in terms of post-launch content. With each episode comes new missions, loot and of course exotic weapons. The new assault rifle on the block is The Chameleon, and it’s pretty nifty in the right hands. In this guide we’ll tell you how to get The Chameleon, and what Talents it has.

The Chameleon is a random world-drop. This is good news and bad news. The good news is that there is no intricate and bloated mission path to follow, as with some of the other exotic weapons. Bad news is that you’ll be at the mercy of the RNG gods while trying to farm The Chameleon. The two methods below are your best bet, and are currently the main way people are getting their hands on the weapon.
- Take on Bounties — Head into your menu and target Bounties. We recommend doing so in areas where assault rifles are more likely to drop (you can check this by pressing up on the d-pad while looking at the map. Just keep farming Bounties at high difficulties (challenging or hard to increase your chances) and the weapon will drop.
- Targeted Mission — Head into your map and press up on the d-pad. This will bring up the targeted loot menu and let you see which missions are currently offering increased drops of assault rifles. Play through these missions on Challenging difficulty or higher. Bosses are more likely to drop The Chameleon so you can also restart the mission after defeating each boss.
The Chameleon Talents
You’ll want to get your hands on The Chameleon as it has some seriously effective Talents. We’ve listed them below:
Adaptive Instincts
- Hitting 30 headshots grants +20% critical hit chance and +50% critical hit damage for 45s
- Hitting 60 body shots grants +100 weapon damage for 45s
- Hitting 30 leg shots grants +150% reload speed for 45s
Overlap
- When Holstered, gain +5% weapon handling
So Is The Chameleon a Good Weapon?
The Chameleon is a great weapon, though not as good as some of the others in the game.
The downside to the weapon is that its accuracy is very poor, so you will need to be getting pretty close to your enemies. The Talents do make the weapon viable though, as landing body, leg and headshots will seriously increase your overall weapon damage. This will almost happen automatically while shooting, making The Chameleon very powerful once the Talents are active.

Do You Need the Year 1 Pass to Get The Chameleon Early
The Chameleon is released as part of Title Update 7. While the Episode 3 mission content is locked for a week behind the year one pass, you can still earn The Chameleon without it.

Honestly, im liking these changes to the Chameleon exotic assault rifle. Here’s some info about it.

The 33% damage buff makes a pretty big difference, and not only that but the new addition to its talent makes a big difference as well in terms of keeping the buffs from the weapon up.
Lets take a look at the damage numbers of the base damage itself.
Look at the white numbers, which is the weapons base damage
On the PTS, you can see the numbers are pretty much the same as a .45 vector. Why a vector??? Because the chameleon is an exotic variation of the vector. But in-game its considered an assault rifle since it shoots .308 rifle rounds, SMGs dont shoot those.
Now lets take a look at the same weapons from the live version(non-pts)

As you can see, the .45 vector and the chameleon got buffs, and now they are neck and neck with one another. These buffs are pretty good since we have a higher base, that means it’ll scale better with additional weapon bonuses from gear, talents, and such.
And that means that 80% from the talent will provide bigger bang as well.
Now lets compare the PTS version Chameleon to its other assault rifles counter-parts.
We will select the famas. Why??? Because its the assault rifle that also has 900 RPM, and so does the chameleon so it would be best to compare it sime the per bullet damage should be most similar to the chameleon and we all know the famas is at the top end of the assault rifle power bracket.

As you can see, its not far off from a famas, so its pretty decent. But the famas get’s the edge pure damage wise tho.
So hows its damage campared to an eagle bearer which is considered the best assault rifle in the game damage wise??? I use the same build for the eagle bearer and the chameleon, which is my all reds, crit build.
Eagle bearer crit hit damage: 401358
Chameleon crit hit damage no talent buff: 289649
Chameleon crit hit with 80% weapon damage buff active: 396382
As you can see, that damage is near that of the eagle bearer with one talent stack active, the 80% weapon damage one.
And my eagle bearer is god rolled.
Side note: the 80% weapon damage buff is based off the base weapon damage, not the total weapon damage, so 80% weapon more from 40K
This is what my live version eagle bearer looks like on PTS.
Due to the fact that the chameleon can do near eagle bearer damage and have a higher fire rate of 150, it can out DPS the eagle bearer with just the middle 80% weapon damage talent active.
And this is where the big difference that seems small at first. Its this little bit.
The chameleon got a new feature added to it
This talent change makes a big difference in combat. Bigger than I thought. So you know how you may activate the talent, but theres like only 2 or 3 guys left, so the talent feels like it was wasted???
So now you have to bring the stacks up again, because the timer is ran out while you was running to the next combat scene, well, that no longer exist.
If the talent is active for any of the three stacks, and the combat ends before the timer runs out, at the end of combat, the timer, will FULLY REFRESH, and it will just pause there at the full 45 seconds, and the timer will not start again until you start combat again.
If you can kill the whole ground of enemies in 45 seconds before the buff timer ends, you can literally keep the buff active for the entire mission, IF your that skilled and fast enough.
This made a big ass difference.
If you do those speed run missions for those events, this is the weapon to use, it has the potential to out DPS anything when all three talents are active and can keep them all up if your really skilled.
I gotta give credit to massive for this change, its pretty good. I tried it in heroic against true sons radio tower mission and I was very impressed with it. Was able to keep the buff active for like 3 encounters straight, back to back.
One thing to note tho, if you swap weapons, it loses ALL its stacks and you have to start from scratch.
I hope you guys kept at least one Chameleon in your stash because this weapon just got useful.
Division 2 Exotic Weapons
Hello Agents! We have exotic weapons in store for the soldiers in Division 2.
We have already prepared a report on the weapons of the Second Division. In Division 2, there are exotic equipment and masks. But for now, I would like to tell you more about weapons.
Weapon power depends on character level and global level. So there is no point in collecting them before the 30th.

Gather all the parts at the Base and craft «Freedom». The pistol just has a killing power of 40K damage per shot. He has no special perks.
Shotguns Lullaby and Sweet Dreams
The first shotgun is only owned by those who have previously pre-ordered it. At the moment, Lullaby is no longer mined.
The lullaby is issued at the beginning and it has only two thousand lethality. But this does not prevent her from breaking the armor of enemies.

The second weapon will send your enemies to regale forever.
After all, the lethal force in it is up to 100k. At the same time, the shotgun will allow you to save 1/3 of the armor after each kill.
Drobash «Sweet Dreams» fully justifies its name.
Merciless and Merciless Rifles
The Merciless Exo Rifle was issued only to those who bought the Ultimate Edition. But the Merciless Rifle had to be knocked out.
Bonus damage for 15 thousand, crit chance of 15 percent. Useful Perks: Binary Trigger and Brutality.
The first one gives you a chance to shoot again. The second undermines opponents with 20 percent of the total damage.
Eagle Banner
Considered to be the best exo rifle, it is a valuable treasure. Plus, it’s not that easy to knock it out.
Because the Eagle Banner falls exclusively in Operation Dark Times.
Is the weapon worth the spent nerves? Definitely yes!
Up to 100% damage reduction when killing five enemies — Tenacity skill.
Accuracy up to 100%, fast reload on headshots. And also increased damage — all this gives the Eagle Strike perk.
Additional percentage of armor when switching weapons — «Fire Protection».
Rattler
Rattler is perhaps the most powerful double-barreled shotgun in the Second Division.
It is capable of firing up to 100 shots per minute with a small magazine. In this case, one shot can reach 70K damage.
She has three cool perks:
- Long fangs.

- Painful bite.
The first one, in addition to activating crituron after 10 seconds, also speeds up reloading. Also hits increase damage.
The second talent increases your armor from 8% if you shoot from other weapons, up to 30% if you use a rattler.

Chameleon
Chameleon Assault Rifle drops randomly and with low probability on missions of the same name.
Although Chameleon is not very accurate, she is good at her talents.
The more often you hit the head and legs, the greater the chance of a crit. And when shooting at the legs, the reload speed also increases by 1.5 times. This is how the Adaptability perk works.
And if you don’t shoot the Chameleon, then ergonomics is added by 5%.
Bighorn Assault
Bighorn only drops when completing the «Fortifications» mission in the Warriors of New York DLC on Legendary difficulty. And then the chance will be only 5%.
This weapon has the coolest talent. If you shoot from it in short bursts, then the damage increases by 4.5 times.
Good for bosses and heavyweights.
Nemesis sniper toy
For those who like to shoot from afar, there is an exotic Nemesis sniper rifle.
It needs to be assembled piece by piece. For this we have compiled a separate material.

PP Ratchet and PP Lady Death
Ratchet is assembled according to the drawing. What is so cool about this submachine gun?

Another good PP Lady Death can only be obtained in the DLC.
The Free Breath talent speeds up the player by 20% for 10 seconds. It also increases damage by 60% while running. Exotic for fans of sprints and fast combat.
Shooter King
Rounding out our list of exotic weapons is the Shooter King machine gun.
And it’s not called that for nothing.
It automatically refills ammo clips for you and your allies every 100 successful shots.
