Why test your PS4 internet connection?

There may be several reasons why you want to run an internet connection test on your PS4.

To check the speed test.

If you want to know your PS4 download and upload speed, this test is a must.

Please note that download and upload speed results are approximate and depend on your connected servers and network traffic. Speed test results may appear differently when you run an internet test on another device connected to your home network.

Sometimes you may need to get connection speed data for other purposes, even if you don’t have problems at all.

For other network information related to your PS4 connection.

And speaking of other details, running the internet connection test gives you other network information such as your PS4’s IP address, internet connection status, PlayStation Network network status, or NAT type.

When diagnosing a network problem.

Checking your PS4 internet connection can be important if you’re troubleshooting no connection, Wi-Fi issues, or slow connection issues. In fact, this is one of the important steps that you should take in order to determine the cause of any network issue you may be experiencing with your console. For example, if you’re having trouble joining a multiplayer session in your game, it could be due to a NAT issue. You need to run this test to find out if the NAT type is type 1 (open), 2 (moderate), or 3 (strict). In other cases, multiplayer issues may be caused by PlayStation Network being disabled, which you can also avoid during this test.

How to start a test internet connection on PS4.

Time needed: 2 minutes

Follow these steps to perform an internet connection test on your PS4.

  1. Open the settings menu.

Go to main screen and open menu Settings from there.

  2. Select Network.

    Go to Network .

  3. Start connection test.

    Select Check internet connection .

What internet speed do you need to play PlayStation 4 online?

Source: Android Central

Best Answer: On PlayStation 4 you can get very slow internet speeds, around 3Mbps for uploads and 1Mbps upload speeds, but that’s a ping you need to pay attention to . Keep it below 150ms and you’ll be fine.

  • Console you want: PlayStation 4 Pro ($274 at Amazon)
  • Stay Connected: DanYee Cat 7 Ethernet Cable ($8 at Amazon)
  • Select Multiple Games: PlayStation Store Gift Card ($60 at Amazon)

Speed matters

When it comes to playing online, your online connection is very important. Not only does it need to be secure, but it should also be fast, especially when you’re playing on something like the PlayStation 4. Internet speed varies by provider, but players may still be looking for a couple of things to make sure they’re playing at the best possible speeds for their attachments.

If any of you are both a PC gamer and a console gamer, you will know that most games have a list of minimum system requirements, and that list is the minimum connection speed you can use to run online games. game services.

Playstation games are slightly different as the console itself already has a minimum requirement and all games must meet this minimum in order to be allowed on the PlayStation platform. Thankfully, Sony’s minimum requirements are quite low.

All you need is a 3Mbps download speed and only 1Mbps upload speed. This is extremely low by today’s standards — the average internet speed in the US is now 19 Mps — so any game should work fine if you have an average internet speed. However, while speed is an important factor when it comes to playing online, ping is the real issue that you should be focusing on.

Ping matters most

Source: Android Central

For those who don’t know, Ping is the time it takes for your information packet to go to the server and get back to you, measured in milliseconds (ms). When you play video games online, your ping helps determine how well your game will play.

The ping is too high — over 150ms for example — and you will start to see your teammates and your opponents jumping around the screen like they are teleporting, or worse, kill you to death before you can even see them . This is often when players start complaining about lagging, or snapping into or out of objects while playing online. Keeping your ping low is an important part of playing online games and will start to consume your every thought if you don’t fix it early.

Go wired if you can

If you’re a PlayStation 4 player, the biggest incentive for your online gaming is pretty simple. Connecting your PlayStation 4 directly to your router via an Ethernet cable will dramatically change your online gaming experience and you will immediately see how to play this game directly. Not only does a direct Ethernet connection reduce latency and ping, it also has a huge impact on download speeds. In my house, over Wi-Fi, my PS4 boots at 36Mbps — I know that’s better than average — but when I plug it directly into my router, it goes up to 375Mbps.

Of course, not everyone will have this internet speed, but even those with the lowest speed should notice a significant increase when connected to the network. In addition to connecting to a wired network, try disabling or unplugging any electronics that may be using your wireless connection while playing, as too many devices online can cause some problems.
