Cyberpunk 2077 im GamePro-Test
Test-Update nach Patch 1.5
Aufgrund des jüngsten Upgrades für PS5 und Xbox Series X/S haben wir uns dazu entschlossen die Testwertung für Cyberpunk 2077 um fünf Punkte nach oben zu korrigieren, die zum Release eingetragene Abwertung zu streichen.
CD Projekt haben mit Patch 1.5 nicht nur gewünschte Quality of Life-Verbesserungen wie die spätere Anpassung von V implementiert, sondern in erster Linie das Spiel aus technischer Sicht aufgewertet. Dank Performance- und Raytracing-Modus sieht das Spiel deutlich verbessert aus und läuft unserer Erfahrung nach auf den Current-Gen-Konsolen flüssig. Zudem wurden die Ladezeiten im Vergleich zur Release-Version deutlich gesenkt und die Population von Night City erhöht.
Dennoch soll auch an dieser Stelle nochmal deutlich angemerkt werden, dass Cyberpunk 2077 ganz nach eurem Spielstil kein Bug-freies Spiel ist und wohl auch niemals sein wird. Vergangene Patches haben jedoch genug Fehler ausgemerzt, dass sie das Spielerlebnis nicht mehr entscheidend beeinflussen.
Cyberpunk 2077 auf PS4 und Xbox One: An dieser Stelle auch ein paar abschließende Worte zum aktuellen Zustand der Last-Gen-Version, für die wir zum Release eine deutliche Kaufwarnung ausgesprochen haben.
Mit vergangenen Patches, u.a. 1.2, wurde die Performance zwar verbessert und Fehler ausgemerzt, dennoch können wir euch nach wie vor keine Empfehlung für das Spielen auf PS4 und Xbox One aussprechen.
Unsere Tech-Analyse nach Patch 1.5 hat noch immer gezeigt, dass die Framerate speziell während Fahrten oder Schießereien regelmäßig auf 15 fps sinkt. Erstaunlicherweise haben sich diese Werte mit dem jüngsten Patch sogar verschlechtert. Um die Ursache zu erklären, hier ein paar Worte von GamePro-Tech-Autor Chris:
Als Ursache würde ich weiterhin den hohen Anspruch an die CPU in den Fokus rücken: Mittlerweile sind etwas mehr Passanten unterwegs als nach dem Patch auf Version 1.2 und auch das Verkehrsaufkommen ist gestiegen –beide Aspekte liegen schwer auf der CPU.
Test zu Cyberpunk 2077
Ganze acht Jahre nach der offiziellen Ankündigung, drei Verschiebungen und einem bedingt durch The Witcher 3 schier grenzenlosen Hype später, erscheint Cyberpunk 2077 nun für PS4 und Xbox One.
Wir konnten das Action-Rollenspiel durchspielen, haben über 60 Stunden in der düsteren Open World von Night City verbracht und dürfen euch nun endlich verraten, ob sich die lange Wartezeit gelohnt hat. Viel wichtiger ist jedoch die Frage, für wen sie sich gelohnt hat.
Denn das vorweg: Cyberpunk 2077 ist keine eierlegende Wollmilchsau. Es ist weit davon entfernt, ein perfektes Spiel zu sein. Ganz im Gegenteil: Aus technischer Sicht bieten zum Release speziell die Standardkonsolen der Last-Gen ein schlechtes Bild. Doch auch auf Gameplay-Ebene ist es ein Abenteuer mit vielen Ecken und Kanten, demgegenüber einige der besten Geschichten und Charaktere des vergangenen Blockbuster-Videospiel-Jahrzehnts stehen. Zudem haben wir eine Spielwelt vorgefunden, die sich dank ihrer Atmosphäre und der Liebe zum Detail in die Riege der Genre-Könige einreiht. Eure Erwartungshaltung wird jedoch letzten Endes darüber entscheiden, wie sehr die Spielspaßwaage in die eine oder andere Richtung kippt.

Die Testumstände: Der Publisher konnte uns erst zum offiziellen Release mit Konsolenversionen versorgen, weshalb wir Cyberpunk 2077 zuerst auf einem gut ausgestatteten PC spielten.
Unser ursprünglicher Text (ohne Wertung) basierte auf dieser Version. Nach einem ausführlichen Konsolentrip nach Night City haben wir den Artikel entsprechend angepasst und reichen die finale Wertung nach.

Hervorragendes Storytelling mit glaubhaften Charakteren
Habt ihr die Abenteuer von Hexer Geralt erlebt, wird euch die Wortwahl der Zwischenüberschrift nicht überraschen. Wenn der polnische Entwickler eine Sache schon immer konnte, dann waren es fesselnde Geschichte samt vielschichtiger Charaktere, an die wir uns auch Jahre später noch gerne erinnern. Und exakt dieses sehr hohe Niveau des Storytellings hält auch Cyberpunk.
Wir spielen Söldner*in V, den oder die wir uns dank überaus umfangreichen Charakter-Editor von der Schamhaar-Frisur über unreine Haut bis zur fehlenden Brustwarze selbst zusammenbasteln.
Eine Gender-Auswahl gibt es nicht, wir wählen vielmehr einen Körpertyp, dem wir Geschlechtsorgane und eine feminine oder maskuline Stimme zuordnen. Wer sich hier als RPG-Fan voll und ganz bei der Erstellung austoben möchte, sich gerne im Editor verliert, der kann das tun. Viel Arbeit sollte übrigens in die Wahl der Fingernägel fließen, sind sie es doch, die wir durch die Ego-Perspektive mit Abstand am meisten sehen. Doch keine Sorge, vergebene Liebesmüh ist das Basteln am Charakter nicht. Während der Fahrten auf Motorrädern wechselt das Spiel in die Third-Person-Ansicht und auch im Charakter-Menü und in Spiegelungen können wir unser Äußeres bestaunen.
Im Anschluss bestimmen wir unsere Origin-Story, starten entweder als Nomade in der Ödnis außerhalb der Megametropole, als Street Kid in einer zwielichtigen Bar oder als Corpo, einem Mitglied der herrschenden Megakonzerne Night Citys, in einem noblen Konzerngebäude.
Als Nomade starten wir in einer Garage im Ödland vor Night City.
Als Street Kid finden wir uns zu Spielbeginn in einer zwielichtigen Bar wieder.
Als Corpo führt unser erster Weg samt Anzug und Krawatte durch ein nobles Konzernhochaus im Herzen der Megametropole.
Das «was machen wir in Cyberpunk 2077 eigentlich?» ist relativ schnell erklärt, ohne groß spoilern zu müssen. Im Grunde startet die Geschichte rund um V mit einem missglückten Einbruch, der das Leben unserer Hauptfigur auf dramatische Weise für immer verändert. Nachdem wir uns bei null anfangend auf einem Schrottplatz wiederfinden (und mit Johnny Silverhand in unserem Kopf, mehr zu ihm später), startet ein knallharter Kampf ums Überleben, in dem wir uns gegen die mächtigen Konzerne und Banden von Night City stellen.
Der gewählte Hintergrund wirkt sich dabei in erster Linie auf den Start des Spiels aus und gibt zudem während zahlreicher Dialoge eine zusätzliche Auswahlmöglichkeit. Eine durchweg spürbare Auswirkung auf das Spielgeschehen oder gar die Enden, wie etwa in einem Dragon Age: Origins, haben die Hintergründe aber nicht.
Da kommen wir beispielsweise als Konzerner während einer Mission ohne Aufmerksamkeit zu erregen auf feindliches Terrain, das war’s dann aber auch. Das ist schade, da hier erzählerisches Potenzial auf der Strecke bleibt.
Haben wir die ersten recht linearen Spielstunden, die ganz unter dem Motto «werde eine ruhmreiche Legende in Night City» stehen, erst hinter uns, dreht CD Projekt in Sachen Storytelling ordentlich auf. Und hier sprechen wir nicht nur von der wahrlich hervorragend erzählten, gut 25 bis 30 Stunden andauernden Hauptstory. Die kommt dank vieler storyrelevanter Entscheidungen mit mehreren Enden daher und verleiht Cyberpunk einen hohen Wiederspielwert.
V könnt ihr im Editor ganz nach Belieben gestalten und im Verlauf des Spiels mit gefundener Kleidung anpassen.
Wir sprechen auch von fantastischen Nebengeschichten, die das hohe Niveau der «Blutiger Baron»-Quest aus The Witcher 3 — die Mission gilt als eine der besten der vergangenen Jahre — problemlos halten.
Wir sprechen von Geschichten, die unter anderem Themen wie Glauben, das Menschsein, Sex, Gewalt und Prostitution ansprechen — und zwar in einer Art und Weise, die uns noch lange über die Wahl unserer Entscheidung hat nachdenken lassen, uns vor moralische Dilemmas gestellt hat.

Sollen wir wirklich dem Witwer dabei helfen, den jetzt gottesfürchtigen, rehabilitierten Mörder seiner Frau kaltblütig zu ermorden? Im Kontrast dazu finden wir auch hin und wieder kleine Nebenquests, bei denen wir herzhaft lachen müssen. Darunter die absurde Geschichte eines KI-basierten Taxi-Unternehmens, das seine abgespaltenen KI-Persönlichkeiten (andere Taxen) verloren hat, die wir suchen müssen und eine Überraschung nach der anderen erleben.
Erwartet jedoch trotz dieser überaus humorvollen Momente kein Gute-Laune-Spiel. Night City ist düster, Night City ist brutal und Night City ist ein Ort, in dem das Wort Menschlichkeit zunehmend in Vergessenheit gerät.
Zu viel des Guten
Auf was ihr euch übrigens einstellen solltet, ist eine wahre Flut an Nebenaufgaben, die ihr per Videoanruf erhaltet und die euren Questlog und die Karte schnell zupflastern. Speziell während der anfänglichen Fahrten durch Night City hat unser Smartphone vor neuen Aufträgen keine Ruhe gegeben, was im ersten Moment leicht überfordern kann. Unschön ist übrigens, dass unser Questlog alle Aufträge wenig übersichtlich untereinander aufreiht und zudem nur wenige Infos über den Auftraggeber und die Mission selbst gibt.
Haben wir eine Nebenmission nicht sofort erledigt, Stunden später in unsere To Do-Liste geschaut, wussten wir oft nicht wer hier was von uns will. Ärgerlich ist das in erster Linie, wenn wir gezielt längere Questreihen weiterverfolgen wollen oder wir bei all den Namen nicht mehr wissen, wer hier überhaupt unser Auftraggeber ist.
Das ist zwar lediglich eine Kleinigkeit, hätte aber deutlich besser gelöst werden können. Unter anderem Ghost of Tsushima macht es uns hier deutlich leichter, indem es auf der Karte direkt die Porträts der relevanten Personen anzeigt.
Weit erfreulicher ist hingegen, dass CD Projekt größtenteils auf wenig Story bietende Sammel- und Fetchquests verzichtet. Recht monotone Kopfgeldaufträge, in denen wir sogenannte Cyberpsychos (Minibosse) finden und ausschalten müssen und eine «finde 20 Graffitis»-Mission waren vielmehr die Ausnahme. Abseits davon wurden wir nicht nur gut unterhalten, sondern haben viele Storys und NPCs erlebt, die uns noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben.
Darunter auch die Geschichte unseres Partners Jackie Welles, mit dem wir in den ersten Spielstunden nicht nur einen legendären Raubzug gegen den mächtigen Arasaka Konzern durchführen. Durch viele kleine Nebengeschichten lernen wir durch dessen Freundin Misty und auch durch seine Mutter immer besser zu verstehen, wer hinter der so harten Schale steckt.
Wir blicken hinter seine Fassade und lernen sein wahres Ich kennen.
