Terraria end update: 1.4.0.1 — Terraria Wiki

Everything We Know About The Terraria 1.4 Journey’s End Console Update

Terraria’s 1.4 update, known as Journey’s End, was the Terraria update to end all updates. Considered to be the final update to Terraria by players and developers alike, the huge content patch introduced new biomes, monsters, and golf.

The patch closed several years of free content updates for Terraria, arguably one of the best-value games ever released in terms of pure playability and the sheer amount of content. After a long wait, console Terraria fans are finally getting their hopes up about a 1.4 Journey’s End release date for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

Updated September 27, by Harry Alston:We’re updating this Terraria 1.4 console release guide with news of the official release date of Terraria Journey’s End on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

8 Terraria 1.4 For Consoles Releases On September 30

September update:

Terraria 1. 4, Journey’s End, releases on September 30 for Xbox and PlayStation. After a long wait, gamers will finally be able to play the 1.4 update on their consoles. The Nintendo Switch version of the update is still being worked on and currently has no concrete release date.

7 Is Terraria Cross-Platform?

Players have been asking about cross-platform Terraria since the release of 1.4 for PC back in 2020. Terraria is not currently cross-platform. According to Re-Logic, cross-platform and cross-progression is something they will start working on once all versions of the game have reached update parity. That means console versions of Terraria on PlayStation and Xbox will need to hit 1.4 before crossplay becomes possible.

Re-Logic and DR Studios (the mobile and console team) will «take their best shot» to integrate crossplay and cross-progression of player’s saves between all major platforms. Hopefully, one day, you will be able to play Terraria with your friends on any of the game’s platforms, whether that’s PC, mobile, Xbox, or PlayStation. As of yet, there is no official release date of crossplay, and no more information has been revealed about crossplay progress since January’s State of the Game. You can, however, play crossplay Terraria between Android and mobile iOS devices.

September update:

With the news that Terraria 1.4 Journey’s End will be available on consoles from September 30, the multiple versions of Terraria are moving closer to update parity. This means cross-play might be on the horizon soon. We may have to wait for the update to come the Nintendo Switch, which is still a little while away.

6 Why Has There Been A Delay To The 1.4 Console Release?

Journey’s End was released in May 2020 for PC and then later in the year for mobile, meaning that 1.4 is now only not available on consoles. This has left some console players curious as to why the update is taking so long to come to their platform.

RELATED: Terraria: Best Pre-Hardmode Weapons

This is down to a transition of developers working on Terraria Console Edition. The console version up until version 1.3 was handled by 505 Studios, and elements were ported from PC to console by Pipeworks Studios. After some development issues, the project was later handed over to DR Studios, the same team that worked on Terraria Mobile.

5 Will There Be A Beta To Play Terraria 1.4 On Consoles Early?

At the end of last year, Re-Logic announced in their November State of the Game that they hoped there might be an «end of year gift» in the form of an Alpha version of Terraria 1.4, essentially an early developer build of the game.

It’s now June and there is yet to be any news about a playable console version of Terraria, although videos released by DR Studios suggest there is at least a basic version of the Journey’s End update that works on Xbox. Nothing has been confirmed about a playable Beta for 1.4 on consoles.

4 Will The 1.4 Update Release On All Consoles At The Same Time?

In those same State of the Game updates, Re-Logic has consistently stated that they’d like to see Terraria 1. 4 release simultaneously on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. However, with the Alpha version already live on Xbox, it’s likely that the platform might be getting some early special treatment.

Back in October, Re-Logic stated that the Nintendo Switch was «obviously» a different type of console, and required unique UI modifications to make the game as playable as possible. As such, the Switch update might arrive slightly later than the two other consoles.

3 Will There Be Console-Exclusive Content?

Historically, Re-Logic has included unique content for its console and mobile version of Terraria. For example, the console versions have unique armor sets, such as the Dragon Armor, Spectral Armor, and Titan Armor. These are just Vanity items. They first appeared many years ago, including on the defunct 3DS version of the game.

Those items have since been removed, and it’s not clear whether the future 1. 4 update will include any console-exclusive items. Many of that old Vanity armor and gear was only available on old-gen (Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo 3DS).

2 What Is The Terraria Journey’s End Update?

Terraria 1.4, or Journey’s End, was a huge content update that was released on May 16, 2020. It arrived on the ninth anniversary of Terraria and included some huge additions, including the (sort of) creative Journey Mode and the ultra-difficult Master Mode.

The update was oozing with content, including two new bosses (the Empress of Light and the Queen Slime), a Bestiary that helped players finally organize the complex world of Terraria, and a new town system that allowed better management and interaction with NPCs.

1 What’s Next For Terraria?

Oh, Terraria 2. It’s an idea that dates as far back as 2012, and Terraria fans are obviously keen to find out more about what’s next for the game. While the Journey’s End is an update that finally puts years of free content releases to bed, Re-Logic has said time and time again that work on Terraria isn’t over yet.

Just recently, the 1.4.1 patch for PC fixed some bug issues and even added some more extra content, such as some new Vanity sets from their Vanity contest that they ran via Twitter.

Terraria: Journey’s End Patch Notes

We are one day away from Terraria: Journey’s End update, and ReLogic has released the changelog detailing everything coming with this game-changing update. Terraria has been out for almost a decade at this point, and many players assumed that the game was fully complete. Re-Logic it seems has other plans and has stated that this will be Terraria’s final update, and it is truly massive.

The forum post that Re-Logic put out is huge on its own and details new changes like 1000 new items, a golfing game mode, quality of life improvements, and even the ability to fight brand-new bosses. This post has nothing on the changelog though, which is more than 40 pages of detailed notes. Players who want to can download the full text from the forum post and peruse at their leisure. We here at Screen Rant thought we’d make it easier on fans of Terraria and pull out some of the most interesting features that will be coming with Journey’s End.

Terraria Journey’s End: New Game Modes

Terraria will now have new game modes for players to experiment with. The most impressive of the three modes is the Journey Mode. This option will give players the power to tailor gameplay to their wants and needs. Features like the ability to control the weather, adjust the enemy difficulty, duplicate items/materials, and even enable god-mode will all come packaged into Journey Mode. Re-Logic has stated that the only limit to this mode will be the creativity of players.

Another interesting game mode will be Master Mode. Master Mode should only be attempted by very experienced players as it will be the most difficult mode in Terraria. Enemies will be stronger and more aggressive, and players will be punished more harshly for their actions. Players who don’t want such a grueling experience though can always decide to play a round of golf with Terraria’s Golf Mode. Once the update releases, players will be able to create their own course or challenge their friends to a friendly round on some community-created levels.

Terraria Journey’s End: The Bestiary and Zoologist

One of the most frustrating aspects of Terraria in the past was keeping track of all the different creatures and enemies that players would face. It could be difficult to remember how much health certain enemies had or what kinds of items they dropped. Players won’t have to worry about Googling that info any longer though, as Terraria will now have its own in-game Bestiary. This feature can be used to keep track of all the creatures that players have encountered, while also compiling all the necessary stats and info that players might need.

Users can even attract a new NPC called the Zoologist that is directly tied to the Bestiary. By killing enemies and filling out parts of the Bestiary, players will earn special rewards from the Zoologist. Most of these items are fun vanity features or pets, but the Zoologist can also provide useful items like minecarts. Players should make sure to check in with her regularly for new items.

Terraria Journey’s End: Over 1000 New Items

Journey’s End will be introducing almost 1000 new items to Terraria, which means that the final item count for the game will be over 5000. For one, whips will be an entirely new class of weapon for summoners. This is very helpful as the summoner class didn’t have as many unique weapons to use as other classes in Terraria. Other weapons that are being added are the Starcannon V2, Celebration MK. II, and the Scarab Bomb.

Players will also be able to explore the world in fun new ways with different mounts. A new minecart called the Minecarp is shaped like a fish. It’s unclear if it has any new features, but it looks fun. Players will also be able to navigate through lava with the Lava Shark mount. There are also an untold number of aesthetic items being added to Terraria as well from a throne room theme to a design that seems to be made from bamboo.

Terraria Journey’s End: Quality of Life Improvements

There will be several quality of life features that will be added in with Journey’s End – much to the benefit of players. One of the most exciting is the block swap feature that all players will get solid use out of. Instead of having to destroy structures to update them, players will now be able to just place a new block over them. As long as players have a pickaxe in their possession that is strong enough, and block can be placed over an old one. The old block will be destroyed and players will regain the material used to create it.

Another exciting feature will fix a lot of problems that players experience with inventory overflow. There will now be a new object called the Void Vault that players can send their items to. Players who are in the middle of an adventure and find that they have run out of space can now use a Void Bag to send whatever they want back to the Void Vault at their home base. This will significantly cut down on the number of times that players need to run back to their base while exploring.

Terraria Journey’s End: Brand New Enemies and Bosses

With a new update comes all-new enemies to kill and be killed by. Journey’s End will add 19 new enemies to Terraria. A few of the new ones that have been teased by Re-Logic are Gnomes that seem to roam underground and Balloon Slimes that can now fly through the skies. Players will also see 22 new harmless critters throughout the world to find and catalog.

In addition to the regular enemies, Re-Logic has decided to add two mini-bosses and two bosses. One of the mini-bosses that players will be able to fight against is the Dreadnautilus, a giant monstrous fish-like creature that players can face off against. The company has decided to keep both new bosses under-wraps, so players will have to discover them on their own.

Terraria Journey’s End: Fishing Update

Re-Logic has decided to completely overhaul the way that fishing works in Terraria. The company rebalanced the loot and mechanics of fishing and also added a bunch of new spots for players to fish in. Players will now be able to use a Chum Bucket to attract fish and other sea creatures, and will have to face off against all kinds of new animals like the dangerous Goblin Shark.

There are also some more dangerous ways to fish that can give players greater rewards. Fishing during a Blood Moon will expose them to dangerous creatures both on sea and land, but will give them access to better loot. The company has hinted that there may be something horrifying lurking for players who decide to fish during a Blood Moon though. Players will also be able to go lava fishing as well, which similarly has its own risks and rewards.

Terraria Journey’s End: Not The End

Very few games can manage to have such a big following for almost a decade, but Terraria has. Players have spent countless hours exploring the large and dangerous worlds that Re-Logic has provided. Journey’s End may be the final update, but it will definitely not be the end of Terraria. There is so much content here that players will probably be playing Terraria for another ten years.
