Two Tomb Raider Switch Ports Have Been Delayed

Two games from the Tomb Raider franchise that were scheduled to release on the Nintendo Switch in 2022 have now been delayed.

Two games in the Tomb Raider series, scheduled to launch on the Nintendo Switch, have now been delayed. Tomb Raider is one of the longest-running franchises in the video game industry, and it has sold over 88 million copies as of January 2022.

Earlier in October, Crystal Dynamics and Feral Interactive confirmed that two Tomb Raider games would release on the Switch in 2022. Instead of the mainline series, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris were announced for the Switch as a way to celebrate the 25-year anniversary of the franchise. It’s now confirmed that both games will not launch on the Switch in 2022.

As noticed by DualShockers, a recent tweet from Feral Interactive announced that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris are both scheduled to launch on the Nintendo Switch in 2023. In a follow-up tweet, Feral Interactive mentioned that it will consider launching a physical version of the Tomb Raider games, but stated that nothing has been finalized as yet. There doesn’t appear to be any set release window as of now, so it looks like fans will have to wait for more concrete details on the schedule.

There are only a few days left in the year, so it probably doesn’t come as a surprise to see the two games being delayed to 2023. As opposed to the mainline collection of Tomb Raider games on consoles, Guardian of Light and Temple of Osiris are both played from an isometric perspective. Both titles feature support for cooperative gameplay and received mostly positive reviews from critics when they launched.

While the Switch may be powerful enough for a port of the rebooted trilogy, there is no word on Tomb Raider or its sequels coming to Nintendo’s console. Third-party developers have ported AAA games like Doom Eternal, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim to the Switch, so it’ll be interesting to see if Lara Croft’s latest big-budget adventures get released on the platform.

Fans of the Tomb Raider franchise have plenty to look forward to in the coming years, as a new AAA game is currently in development at Crystal Dynamics. This next game is going to be published by Amazon Games, and it’s set to be the biggest title in the Tomb Raider series.

Tomb Raider Is Coming To A New Platform

Tomb Raider will come to the Nintendo Switch in 2023.

Two Tomb Raider spin-off games, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, are arriving on Nintendo Switch in 2023. The news was shared by their development team Feral Interactive via Twitter. We’d call this good news—and the arrival of these games on Switch is good news—but the Twitter post actually announces the pushback from the original 2022 release date to 2023. This news comes amidst uncertainties regarding Alicia Vikander’s reprisal of Lara Croft and rumors suggesting a new mainline game.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light/Temple of Osiris are now coming to Nintendo Switch in 2023. We look forward to sharing more in the new year!

Both Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris were very well received when they launched on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2010 and on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2014, respectively. Now, almost nine years later, both Tomb Raider spin-offs are coming to Nintendo Switch, most likely as part of the push by Square Enix to keep their games relevant across as many platforms as possible, now that they’ve sold Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal to Embracer Group.

Said gaming holding company has acquired Square Enix properties, including the Tomb Raider franchise, but it would seem that the two games—re-released by Square Enix—weren’t part of the deal. Regardless of what’s actually going on behind the corporate curtains, Square Enix is apparently pushing the Tomb Raider Switch port. And though the games didn’t have any official release date, the fandom assumed that they’d launch by the year’s end. Now that the year’s end is upon us, fans have been inquiring about the games, and Feral responded by announcing the pushback.

Delays are never pleasant. Gamers are disappointed, semi-competent bosses in the gaming industry are explaining the delay to the higher-ups while blaming the devs and freelancers—as is the controversial case with Mick Gordon and ZeniMax Media—and nobody’s happy. But there is some good news on the horizon; Feral suggested that a physical release is something that could very well happen. Boxed copies are a possibility, though the company made it clear that nothing is certain.

Though released more than eight years ago, both Tomb Raider titles are the hallmarks of the franchise, despite being “mere” spin-offs from the mainline games. They offered exploration, platforming, and puzzling, along with co-op multiplayer, character progression, and a fast-paced combat system. Additionally, they were more RPG-oriented than the typical action-adventure we’ve gotten accustomed to from the Tomb Raider gaming franchise.

Tomb Raider is a massive media franchise that originated from the action-adventure gaming series centered on a fictional British archeologist Lara Croft. In fact, the success of the entire franchise can be accredited to the first Tomb Raider, which also made Lara Croft the First Lady of gaming. The franchise was so influential it’s directly responsible for Alien Resurrection seeing the light of day, and though it already had several reboots, Crystal Dynamics is currently working on yet another franchise entry.

As for the delayed Tomb Raider Switch games, both gaming hits would actually play well on Nintendo Switch, making the fandom’s excitement well-justified.

Lara Croft: Relic Run — not a weak run from the tomb raider

Game: Lara Croft: Relic Run | Free | Universal application | Install

SQUARE ENIX INC, which has already made a name for itself in the mobile gaming space with titles such as Hitman GO, the DRAGON QUEST series, and the noisy ports of FINAL FANTASY and Tomb Raider, has completed its latest project. This time, the developers did not burden mobile platforms with porting games from large consoles, instead, the guys gave out something more independent, although the same charming tomb raider Lara Croft was taken as the basis. The game was called «Lara Croft: Relic Run». nine0006

Perhaps it’s better to start with this: this product is a runner, which you can guess at least from the name itself. If this news did not disappoint you, and the fact that the developers of the game forced the main character of Tomb Raider to run around thoughtlessly and without reason is not sacrilege for you, you can continue reading the news with a clear conscience, especially since the game turned out to be really good and high quality.

The mechanics of the gameplay will be very, very familiar to everyone. For a full-fledged game in Lara Croft: Relic Run, one hand is enough for you, but let this feature prevent your second, free hand from doing indecent things. The heroine always runs only forward and copes with this task quite well, since the pace of movement will only increase. It remains for us to dodge various obstacles in time, overcome abysses, avoid traps. nine0010

Many will say that all of the above could be seen in Temple Run, Subway Surfers, Agent Dash and other arcade games that saw the light of day a few years ago. This is true, and in addition to us, the developers themselves are very well aware of this. Proof of this is the presence in the game of a huge number of goodies, the task of which is to brighten up the gameplay and make the user believe that there is something more than just another primitive runner.

It is necessary to start with the implementation of the heroine’s movements themselves — they are authentic as never before. The banal and the same type of jumps and movements from line to line were replaced by spectacular elements of parkour — the protagonist performs somersaults very believably, beautifully runs along vertical walls and performs other acrobatic somersaults. Further, the incredible desire of developers to brighten up the gameplay is worthy of mention, so be prepared to see dynamic trips on all kinds of vehicles in the game, bloody shooting of humanoid lizards, the transition of the game to another plane, as well as deadly battles with bosses. And this galaxy will complete a huge variety of game content in the face of machine guns, crossbows, body armor and other ammunition, designed to make the gameplay longer. nine0010

In my opinion, such an attempt to interest users, even in this way, has a chance of life. Thanks to a very high-quality graphics component and the incredible diligence of the developers themselves, this product cannot be called stillborn. It’s high time to remove the boring Temple Run and Subway Surfers from the device in order to install something fresher, attractive and not requiring absolute immersion in the game.
