Reddit — Dive into anything

Welcome to the Monster Hunter Frontier subreddit. If you’re reading this it means you might have some interest in the game, we’ll cover some frequently asked questions here. There currently exists a wiki in this subreddit, but at this point in time it is outdated.

What is Frontier?

  • It’s an MMORPG developed by Capcom that uses Monster Hunter 2 (Dos) as its core, it came out in 2007 for the PC and 2010 for the Xbox 360, expanding to other platforms (available on PS3/PS4/WiiU/Vita) as time went by. It was regularly updated with new content until it shutdown in 2020.

So I can’t play it anymore?

  • Ever since the release of Monster Hunter Frontier dedicated community members, such as Fist, have been working on ways to make Monster Hunter Frontier playable worldwide. Community members have recreated the server of Monster Hunter Frontier, called Monster Hunter Frontier Community Edition. This allows you to play Monster Hunter Frontier on your own computer.

How do I play?

  • Just follow the YouTube guide of u/SephVIII. They will guide you through the installation process step by step. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5wyOJ_R1go.

  • Edit: Since the video got taken down, you need to «hunt» for a different source. There could be something on the PewPewDojo Discord.

Is it in English?

Can I play it with my friends?

  • Yes, you can use software such as ZeroTier to invite friends to your local network. You can find a tutorial here: https://youtu.be/jZx8t8ZReTA.

  • Edit: The video is no longer available.

Are there other people I can play with? How do I find them?

  • You can allways ask in this subreddit if you want to play Monster Hunter Frontier together. There currently is a big community on the Discord-Server PewPewDojo. There you can also find Custom Quest Packs, which both simplify the entry into the game and bring new experiences to it. Link to the Discord-Server: https://discord.gg/CFnzbhQ.

I see a lot of variants of Frontier, like Forward and G, are they a different game?

The game seems pretty difficult and the language barrier isn’t helping, I don’t know if I can do it…

  • Yes, the game is definitely more challenging than the usual main series games, and the language barrier isn’t a nice thing. However IT IS NOT HARD TO BEAT! . Be ready and willing to learn, have translation methods and OCR ready at hand, and use the guides created by the community and then playing frontier won’t be much different than playing a localized main series game.

Is there a general guide to help me get through the early game and mid game (Low Rank & High Rank) of Monster Hunter Frontier?

I heard that there will be new weapons in Monster Hunter Frontier. How do I unlock the Magnet Spike?

Reddit — Dive into anything

Yes, you read that right. It’s only four short months until the game shuts down, but an English Patch for Frontier has finally been created. I’ll give you some basic info on the patch and why it’s being created now, but if you’d prefer to just get straight to downloading it and checking out Frontier, feel free to skip to the links at the end. The Taiwanese server of the game is free to play until shutdown in December and is only missing a handful of monsters that are exclusive to the Japanese server. It’s still possible to do most of what the game offers including the game’s 80+ exclusive monsters so now is as good a time as any to jump in. So…

Why wasn’t an English Patch made before now?

The game came out 12 years ago, so why has there seemingly been no effort to create an English Patch like with Monster Hunter Online? Well, the truth is that a good chunk of the game has been translated for a while now. The database on the English info website fist.moe even has English translations for most of the items and all the monsters and skills. The problem is that implementing these translations into the game was pointless.

For whatever reason, Capcom Online Games(creators of Frontier) really didn’t want anyone cheating. So the game has an anti-cheat system in place called GameGuard. GameGuard checks every single file of the game for tampering whenever you play and presumably flags any accounts with changed files for banning. Making an English Patch before would have been pointless because anyone who used it would likely be banned and thus, not be able to play the game.

So why make one now?

Because the situation has changed. Not many people outside of the Frontier community know this, but before the game’s shutdown was announced, there was an absolutely massive hiatus on the Taiwanese server of the game. The Taiwanese server of the game has always been a few updates behind the Japanese version, and the hiatus started only two updates before the big ZZ update. Initially we theorised that they were going to merge the two updates together, but then the hiatus went on for month after month after month until eventually, shutdown was announced.

The hiatus went on for about six months, and basically killed the Taiwanese playerbase, including many members of the English community. Even now there are only about 50-60 players on average across all Taiwanese servers. It seems the Taiwanese developers learned about the game’s shutdown months beforehand, and had all but abandoned the game. While the game’s shutdown is sad, this made the perfect opportunity for finally making a patch. It is likely the developers either aren’t paying attention to the cheating because they are no longer working on Frontier, or they simply don’t care about how people modify a dying game. It’s been over two weeks since the patch was first tested and so far no one has been banned.

Who created the patch?

The patch was almost solely made by Fist, a long time English player and the creator of the English Frontier info website fist. moe. A few regular Frontier players such as myself also helped with shortening down some of the item names so they fit within the game’s limited textboxes, but apart from that, Fist translated everything and created the patch himself.

What does it translate?

Pretty much all the important stuff. All the monster names, almost all the menus, most of the items, basically all of the necessities. The patch is still being worked on, but less important stuff like flavour text and armours(because there are so many) will not be translated.

Is there a risk to using it?

Yes. Although it is likely the TW developers won’t care even if they are still checking this stuff, using the patch will still carry a ban risk. It has been tested, but only very lightly over a short period. If you’d prefer not to use it, the game is still 100% playable without.

I’d like to see some examples of the patch!

Here are some screenshots and videos of the patch that were shared during its development.

So, how do I set it up?

First of all, you need to actually download and setup Monster Hunter Frontier on your computer. Go to Fist.moe and check out the «Basics and Beginners» section for instructions on how to set it up.

Once you’ve made an account and checked the game works, you can download the patch from here. Simply follow the instructions on the page to get it working with your install of Frontier.

If you have any more questions, or just want to hang out with the rest of the English community, you can join the Discord server here. Most of what you need to know is on fist.moe itself though, so make sure you check if the info is on there before asking a question.

Edit: Thanks so much for the Gold! I didn’t expect this at all. 😀

Edit 2: Silver too? You guys are awesome! 😀

Edit 3: Monster Hunter Frontier memorial video for those interested.

Monster Hunter | How many games, order and where to start — Fall guide — GmodZ.ru

The Monster Hunter Series is a long-running Capcom franchise and it can be difficult for newcomers to break into. It is well known as a rather difficult series of boss games in which players destroy the local fauna in many different biomes. If you’re new to the Monster Hunter series, this guide will serve as your starting guide to the franchise. We will consider how many MH games, where to start, in what order to play them and which one is better.

How many games in total

Monster Hunter ?

There are five main games in total Monster Hunter . Coming soon Rise will bring this number to six. These are games that follow the traditional formula of going to an area to hunt a monster, or exploring the area and collecting materials. Of these main games, there are eight spin-off games that are either expansions of the original content or remakes of the content.

There are also ten add-on games for the MH series, and Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will increase this to 11 by 2021. These games range from small additions to the main games to MMORPGs (in Frontier G and now defunct Frontier Online). The most modern spin-off is the MH Stories series, in which players drive and tame monsters in a turn-based system.

Which

Monster Hunter should I play? first?

While there are plenty of Monster Hunter games to choose from, it’s not too hard to decide where to start. For modern consoles, only a few major games can be selected: MH 4 (3DS), MH: World (PC and home consoles), and MH. Generations Ultimate (3DS/Switch).

Real choice between Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and Monster Hunter World. Generations Ultimate is a great choice as it is a compilation of the first 4 MH . games. It includes a whopping 93 monsters to kill and tons of challenging endgame content. In Generations Ultimate is also played in the traditional MH style. If you want to get an idea of what Monster Hunter is all about in one game, this Switch game is a good place to start.

MH World (and its expansion Iceborne ) contains fewer monsters and locations to explore than Generations Ultimate . However, the game looks great, with more modern graphics than you’ll find in Generations Ultimate . It also includes many gameplay improvements, such as knowing where the monster is going to run to without using paintballs. Lastly, it’s also considered to be easier than the previous installments, making it a good place to start if you want to learn the controls and the basics of fighting monsters.

If you are having trouble choosing between two options, we offer Monster Hunter World . The game is simpler but not a cakewalk, offers slightly better online experiences than what the Switch offers, and generally smoother gameplay overall.

Does it make sense to play

Monster Hunter games?

The games in Monster Hunter The series are not really related to each other, so there is no wrong order to play them. Most of the time the games refer to the previous parts in the walkthrough, and sometimes they have recurring characters. None of this matters much, as in series MH no continuous storyline.

For the main games, no is actually an excuse to go back in time. The classic games MH have an amazing charm, while MH Tri has an underwater combat that the series did not return to. It’s fun! If you’re looking for some ancient mechanics, you might be interested in going back to older games in the series.

However, the actual order of the games you should play is quite simple:

  1. Monster Hunter World (PC and home consoles)
  2. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (3DS, Switch)

If you want to go back in time, check out:

  1. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (3DS)
  2. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS and Wii U)
  3. Monster Hunter 2 (PS2 and PSP)
  4. Monster Hunter (PS2)

Old games more or less well reproduced in MHGU . While it can be nice to go back and play old games, it’s not necessary for a cohesive MH experience. The new games use skeletons and take inspiration from previous games so the core experience doesn’t change much. The main thing you miss out on by not playing the earlier games is the many different environments. However, older games tend to be a bit clunkier than newer ones and offer fewer features. So, unless you really want to go back into video game history, the previous games are usually not too important.

If you want to try additional games, Monster Hunter Stories games are played in order from the original to the upcoming Wings of Ruin . Otherwise, games mostly run as independent events.

Which

Monster Hunter is better?

The Monster Hunter series has many great games that any would-be hunter should choose. However, when it comes to which one is better, fans are divided. They are even separated in terms of cumulative websites like Metacritic.

In terms of Metacritic scores, Monster Hunter performed generally well in terms of critical scores and still ranks highly based on fan reviews. At the same time, it seems that critics in general get more pleasure from games than users.

For example, Monster Hunter World was given a high score of 90 by critics. However, the users didn’t.’ I love the bugs and messy development cycles that the game had. Iceborne , World add-on, received significantly higher user ratings.

On the other hand, players generally had more feedback on Generations Ultimate , although critics did not like the game very much. like World or Iceborne.

While most may prefer World and Iceborne for tighter controls and slightly improved graphics, there’s no doubt that Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate has incredible durability. There are so many monsters to hunt, so many end game objectives, and this is the story time capsule MH . Fans of the series will have more favorite monsters in this game than in World and Iceborne combined. The difficulty of the game is also a good argument for longtime fans of the series.

What about

Rise ?

However with Monster Hunter Rise 9With 0008 coming out in just two months, it’s hard to say how long World and Generations will keep competing. Rise The looks like it could have the best of both worlds. Whether he can hold onto all 93 monsters from Generations Ultimate or not, he’s ready to bring fan-favorite monsters back into the spotlight. It also features the elegant controls of the World and Iceborne , plus even more features to improve quality of life and mobility. Keeping our fingers crossed for a combination of these two games that everyone will love!
