Agricola fundraising campaign, waltzing in Vienna and winter break in the webshop

Some of you already collected it, the 15 years of Agricola — The Anniversary Box. And whether it’s the Anniversary Box or the 15 years of Agricola — Collector’s Box for all fans who also want to store their collected Agricola treasures in style: Something is particularly important to us in the context of this anniversary!

Farmers Helping Farmers

Some of you will remember — after the receiving the Deutscher Spielepreis and the Spiel des Jahres, Lookout had started a «Farmers Helping Farmers» campaign. Back then, and with your help, we were able to support the Arbore in Ethiopia over several years — with animals, seeds, donations and school fees for training.

15 years of Agricola is a perfect reason to be grateful and give back. For each copy of the 15 years of Agricola — The Anniversary Box sold in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, we will donate € 1. — to Zukunftsstiftung Landwirtschaft , to support school farms in Germany and provide children and young people with valuable experiences.

Anyone who would like to contribute is welcome to do so. Lookout reserves the right to increase the donation amount, which will be raised until December 31st 2022.

Information about the donation campaign can be found here:

Spendenaufruf

* Please note that, since this donation campaign is tailored for the German market, this information is only available in German.

ALL TRAINS ON TRACK WITH 1880 CHINA

We are happy to announce that the roll out of 1880 China is scheduled for later this month!

Is this your kind of track?

In 1880 China, players become railway magnates in faraway Asia. Based on 1830 (Revised Edition 2018) — Railways & Robber Barons by Francis Tresham, they experience China’s railway history in a game that was designed to represent related historical events as correct as possible within its own game mechanics.

Being a classic 18XX game, the players are competing in becoming the richest. In order to gain money, they buy and sell shares of China’s historical railway companies, build and expand their railway network and let trains travel on the networks. Shares of successful companies are worth more and owning them will increase the chance to win the game.

In the end, the player with the highest wealth combined from cash and shares is the winner of the game for 3-7 expert players aged 12 and up. A feast for railroads enthusiasts!

What’s new and where can I grab my copy?

The graphically revised edition of this 18XX spinoff by Leonhard Orgler and Helmut Ohley became a facelift by renowned artist Sofia Zhong. German edition will be available by end of August (for DACH region), preorders with your FLGS are open and there will be copies at the Lookout webshop later this month. Due to logistics, English edition for UK and US markets will be delivered this Autumn.

Look out for more #newsfromthelookout soon!

Have a good time,
Sabine

Does game design influence our future?

ATIWA, the new hit game by Uwe Rosenberg, carries the hope for a better environment.

At UK Games Expo , we presented our new Uwe Rosenberg game for the very first time: ATIWA takes players to Ghana, West Africa, to a village community on the edge of a nature reserve that provides clean drinking water to a large area.

In the role of a family of fruit growers, players learn that fruit bats — formerly feared and hunted as fruit thieves — are in fact incredibly useful animals. While the nocturnal animals continue to eat fruit from the trees, in doing so they equally disperse seeds over vast areas of the country. In this way, they help to reforest fallow land and — in the medium term — improve harvests. This realization has led to a symbiotic cooperation between fruit bats and the fruit farms. The animals are kept as «pets» in order to increase the size of the farms more quickly. Tall trees are left as roosts, providing shelter for them rather than hunting them for their scant meat. However, if you have a lot of fruit bats, you need a lot of space…

Experts are needed in this classic worker placement game, especially since the game features lots of cards and over 300 wooden components(including many, many #batmeeples). The perfect balance between fruit bats and the growth of the farm is the key to success and thus to victory. ATIWA, the new Uwe Rosenberg for 1-4 game expert players aged 12 and up will be available at SPIEL ’22 in Essen this October. Just look out for the #fruitbats!

Since we’ve received a lot of inquiries about the game since the weekend and especially regarding the cover, we’ve put a more detailed press release alongside our announcement to be able to answer your questions. The full press release can be viewed and downloaded via the following link:

MOSCOW, November 22 — RIA Novosti. After reconstruction, pieces of the old spire of the Foreign Ministry building in Moscow were turned into souvenirs that are given to honored guests, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. The metal spire of the building fell into disrepair in 2017-2018 and was dismantled and then restored from more modern metals.» We took the metal and asked to be sawn into pieces. We made a souvenir that has no analogues — we mounted fragments of the authentic spire of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in plexiglass. And for many years we have been handing such a thing to honored guests. As my grandmother used to say, «remains are sweet «, Zakharova said at a meeting with architecture students from the Donbass. She recalled that initially the high-rise project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not imply a spire. However, accepting the finished building, according to the legend, «either Stalin, or Beria, or the two of them,» they asked the architects and builders, «when you complete it and build a turret.» «The times were non-debatable, they (the builders) were left wondering how to get out of this that situation,» Zakharova said. Builders and architects found a way out by erecting a 70-meter metal spire — as it was supposed, temporarily. After Stalin’s death, the architects, according to Zakharova, turned to Khrushchev with a proposal to return the building to its originally conceived image. Khrushchev allegedly replied: «The whole world sees the building The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is like this. They are already used to it all over the world … It will be some kind of strange signal if the Foreign Ministry is suddenly beheaded.» The spire was left, but over the next decades it completely rusted and needed to be replaced. The building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was built in 1948-1953, designed by architects Vladimir Gelfreikh and Mikhail Minkus.

Maria Zakharova, Moscow, Russia, Donbass, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (MFA)

Maria Zakharova, Moscow, Russia, Donbass, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (MFA RF)

MOSCOW, 22 November — RIA Novosti. Pieces of the old spire of the Foreign Ministry building in Moscow, after reconstruction, were turned into souvenirs that are given to honored guests, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

The metal spire of the building fell into disrepair in 2017-2018 and was dismantled and then restored from more modern metals.

November 22, 2022, 12:09Tourism

Zakharova told how she worked as a guide in the 90s fragments of the authentic spire of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And for many years we have been handing such a thing to honored guests. As my grandmother used to say, «remains are sweet,» Zakharova said at a meeting with architecture students from Donbass.0003

She reminded that initially the project of the high-rise of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not imply a spire. However, accepting the finished building, according to the legend, «either Stalin, or Beria, or the two of them,» they asked the architects and builders, «when will you complete it and build a turret.»

«The times were non-debatable, they (the builders) were left wondering how to get out of this situation,» Zakharova said. Builders and architects found a way out by erecting a 70-meter metal spire — as it was supposed, temporarily.

After Stalin’s death, the architects, according to Zakharova, turned to Khrushchev with a proposal to return the building to its original image.

«Several years pass, Stalin dies, architects come to Khrushchev: Nikita Sergeevich, be so kind, you are such a revolutionary, you change everything. Is it possible for us to return to the previous appearance of our building, we still saw it like that, and this (spire) is a symbol of totalitarianism, diktat, and so on. Let’s demolish this spire according to new trends,» Zakharova said.

Khrushchev supposedly replied to this: «The whole world sees the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs like this. The whole world has already got used to it … It would be some kind of strange signal if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was suddenly beheaded.» The spire was left, but over the following decades, it completely rusted and needed to be replaced.

The building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was built in 1948-1953 according to the project of architects Vladimir Gelfreikh and Mikhail Minkus.

June 8, 2021, 12:00Some kind of mysticism

The mystery of the spire at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Stalin’s whim or competition with the USA there was no project!). To do this, it was necessary to break the already built walls on several floors. But maybe Stalin had nothing to do with it? How is the spire related to competition with American skyscrapers? And is it true that Khrushchev was asked to remove him?
