Overview of fans be quite! Pure Wings 2, with and without PWM
Not so long ago, a German company familiar to us presented a series of updated fans. Namely — be quiet! Pure Wings 2 . Two models, with and without PWM, came to our review. But we decided to compare what is more profitable to buy — what is more effective. But not that quieter, here at be quiet! always the parity of perfectionism.
We also thank store Kiev-IT for providing the room for shooting.
Standard delivery for both models. They come in an ordinary box with a print, and in addition to the turntables themselves, the box contains a set of screws for attaching to the case.
Externally, the model with PWM differs from the model without PWM only in the pinout of the cables, four holes against three. Otherwise, these are twins made of black plastic. Blades in pieces, each with a wave shape for better air intake.
According to the characteristics, everything is fine, as usual with the Germans. Both fans are the same in size, 140x140x25 mm, and also in terms of rotation speed — 1600 RPM. The only difference is the minimum rotational speed, 1000 RPM for the PWM version. Shimless, respectively, is always at the maximum.
Maximum volume at maximum speed for be quite! Pure Wings 2 is 18.8 acoustic decibels. The airflow at 100% speed is 104 cubic meters per hour.

Both fans mount to the case with the standard screws provided. They are attached to the coolers with standard brackets, which also come with the kit, but already to the coolers. There are no vibration dampers, but given the diameter, there should not be much of it.

Since testing case heatsinks in cases is stupid and predictable, I decided to test them in CPU cooling. Namely, AMD Ryzen 7 1800X. The cooling system was a custom dropsy, consisting of a Corsair h210 block and a single-section 140 mm radiator from CORSAIR H90. Well, plus — a separate 140mm fan that cools the VRM of the motherboard. Still, one of the disadvantages of dropsy AND an open test bench is insufficient cooling of this component.
First installed be quiet! Pure Wings 2 without PWM, and in AIDA64 for 10 minutes of the benchmark, the processor has accumulated up to 69 degrees of Caesar.
Replacing the fan with a PWM model, in 10 minutes we got … 67 degrees maximum. And this is logical.
Why? As the processor heats up, the fan speeds up — meaning that the latter runs slower initially than later. Slower and less efficient. That is why the model without PWM, running full-time at full power, allowed the processor to slowly gain temperature within 10 minutes.
Does the be quiet! Pure Wings 2 pros? Just faster wear. In terms of efficiency, it is higher, because it is constantly at its peak. In terms of volume… as mentioned above, these are silent turntables, inside and out.

Where are your silent wings that I liked? So here they are, already on sale for symbolic conventional units, with and without PWM. If you need to install such a baby on a 140 mm dropsy, I recommend using be quiet! Pure Wings 2 without PWM. If you want to keep the fan longer, I recommend the PWM version. And I have only one question — where the hell can I find 135mm turntables from be quiet?
