Roleplaying (RP), or Role Playing, in World of Warcraft means taking on the role of a character and acting it out in-game through emotes, /say, /yell, and sometimes other channels. Players may also participate in roleplay outside the game by posting on blogs, wikis, or forums (official or otherwise). Roleplaying has similarities to improvisational theater, with the participants acting out characters in unscripted situations. Underlying this social play style is the perspective players have on their characters, as fully fledged fictional beings that are more than just avatars of themselves. The character’s personality, goals, morals, and quirks may resemble that of the player or be completely different. Thus, even a player who doesn’t appear to be role playing to an outsider may enjoy elements of role playing by appreciating the in-universe context of her gameplay in relation to his character. Regardless, roleplayers recognize a boundary between what is in character and what is out of character.

RP also refers to RP Realms. There are several RP Servers available to Warcraft roleplayers. RP servers are functionally the same as PvE Servers, with added social rules and stricter naming enforcement.

The same is true for RP-PvP Servers and PvP Servers. Both sets of rules apply. RP-PvP is commonly misunderstood to mean that the roleplaying part is optional. In fact, these servers were started in response to petitioning from roleplayers, who felt that the ability to engage in PvP added realism.

Basic Expectations on RP Servers

In addition to Blizzard’s normal In-Game Policies, players on Roleplaying servers are expected to abide by the rules outlined in the Roleplaying Policy. A policy that has changed a lot from it’s original layout. In summary, players should:

  • Create a name that fits within the World of Warcraft universe. Remember that rules for Roleplaying servers are in addition to the regular Naming Policy. «Iwillcrushyou», «Roguesftw» and «Shammysrule» are examples of names that would be against the Roleplaying Naming Policy.
  • Stay in character in /say, /yell, in emotes, or any other channel used for roleplaying. This means no discussion of real life events or people in these areas. Players should also take the time to spell out words and phrases. Refrain from using internet jargon and acronyms such as «lol» or «pwn».
  • Maintain a positive atmosphere for roleplaying. Harassment of other players is never tolerated.

Please note that rules about the General chat channel state that is required to be on-topic, not in-character. Traditionally, General is used on roleplaying servers in much the same way as it is on any other server type. However, many people on roleplaying servers enjoy maintaining the same character persona across all channels. Roleplaying on the General channel is uncommon but not unheard of.

Supporting Roleplay on RP Servers

Roleplayers are sometimes disappointed at the amount of out-of-character chat, inappropriate character names, or anti-roleplaying behavior seen on the official RP servers. Forum threads lamenting the state of enforcement are frequently seen on the official forums.

Blizzard Customer Service Representative Pavonum clarified how Blizzard handles RP server violations:

…we work reactively in response to players’ reports. Thus, if you observe players attempting to disrupt roleplaying events through the use of verbal, physical, or visual harassment, I would encourage you to submit an in-game petition…

…it is contrary to our stance of not «policing» realms in search of policy violations—which is, again, in line with the reactive nature of our investigation—and partly because it is simply not logistically feasible to offer such a service, given the resources it would require. We urge you, however, to report any wrongdoing you observe…

-(Emphasis added)

Blizzard GMs do not go looking for RP violations. They address these issues entirely in response to player requests. It is up to the community on each RP server to establish the degree of policy enforcement they wish to see. Whereas one server’s community may take a very strict approach to naming, another may be relatively lax. Rather than Blizzard GMs deciding how far to take it, it’s up to the players themselves to «set the barometer» and determine what is acceptable or not. The GMs can then compare the infraction to the policy as worded, and apply disciplinary measures as required. Thus, it is up to players on RP servers to proactively support the enforcement of the official RP server policies by reporting infractions to GMs.

Note that this includes erotic role play, which is not tolerated though it still happens. Community efforts to cull Goldshire, for instance, have been largely successful,[citation needed]  even if the behavior in question likely moved to other areas.

Introduction to RPGs in World of Warcraft | Role | WoW Manuals

Hello woweros! I introduce myself: I’m Nishiya, a smart, handsome, kind, friendly elf who lives in Los Errantes, that wonderful RPG server that brought so much joy and still has to give.

You ask yourself: “What does this good elf come to sell us, how good is this servant?”

More or less.

I came to talk to you about my role in WoW, and for that I have to talk mainly about Los Errantes. So yes, I will try to tell you a little about the role and, by implication, about our server.

You can call it the «Role Guide» if you like. I’ll try to delve into this topic later, or perhaps on other days if I get the chance, but let’s go over the generalities and the basics in case you want to get into the role one day.

In this I will have invaluable help from the person who treats me, who is not as smart, kind and friendly as I am.

Wow, thanks Nys… very kind. After this great presentation of my «beloved» elf, let’s get down to business.

What role?

The role is to play the character according to his environment and to other people he may meet as he progresses in his adventures. Live your adventures as if they were really yours, that they were happening to you. That being said, it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference to what you normally do in PvE and PvP, as they are also your own character’s adventures.

Let’s take an example:

Stormwind Dungeons

While for someone who is into PvE this might just be a place to find objects whenever they want, for a role player this would mean interpreting it as if his character was in this real prison, killing the poor Justice and the rebels until they found the ringleader, to whom you must give what he deserves. And all this you could tell someone later in the tavern, with a good midget beer on the table, noting that you are still alive. And all this, interpreting it, as I said at the beginning, either through the / do channel, conveying emotions through / e.

[Nishiya] says: Yes, yes … a lot of fun … How about a resume after so much talking, stupid person?

Hmph… It’s like bringing tabletop RPGs (from Dragons and Dungeons of the Life) into WoW itself, making it more dynamic as it’s a live game.

Often when talking to people from other servers or to other people, when I tell them that I’m role-playing, they think it’s just a conversation, saying: «Beautiful girl», «Your beauty blinds me like the sun» . «Oh, mighty gentleman, help this lady in distress,» or as Peter Griffin would say, «You… a bird in your hand… what a hundred, flying.»

Medieval style.

Rolling obviously doesn’t say that. Yes, you can if you want your character to become boring, but I haven’t yet found anyone who walks the streets of Stormwind or Silvermoon like that.

Some good writing is welcome, of course. No one will take a hero who said, “ Hey dude, why are you sad? Let’s have a beer, I’m crying XDDD »

Rolling is not slow walking either. That is, making the character move slowly, not run.

Walk slowly and pompously. I think these are the main stereotypes that other waueros have about us. That and the fact that we are frikazos, that, at least, I will not doubt, because it is pride

History

The main thing to start a role-playing game is to come up with a story for your character.

He may be a dwarf warrior who is fascinated by beer and fights to protect his land, and who believes honor is above all else, a human thief who steals from passers-by in Stormwind to pay for his sister’s medicine. a smart and somewhat clueless elf who spends her day in Silvermoon City because she’s too cowardly to go out…

[Nishiya] says: Hey!

Oh easy my dear. .. I didn’t mean to follow you far.

Obviously, these can be very complex or not very complex stories. In my particular case, I prefer not to make them too complex, and have the characters «create» themselves as they progress in their own adventures. It would be something like writing history as it unfolds, rather than before.

But this, of course, is for every taste.

How to start a role play?

If you are new to the server and know absolutely nothing and no one, your place is in the city of . (or the official kingdom forums where you can find out) By the number of people, the most «populated» RPGs are Stormwind City and Silvermoon City. There, if you search, you can find people playing their characters. And if you don’t find it, then there are always taverns in the city where you will definitely find someone.

I have to say that these taverns are not highly recommended because… everything is there. Both good and bad. Sure, you can learn to interpret there if, with any luck, you find someone to guide your steps a bit, but perhaps I don’t recommend going through them much. There are too many things that can confuse you if you don’t know anything about the role and are new to it.

Walk around the cities. Take a walk or two and don’t be discouraged if you don’t find someone at first. Eventually they will leave.

[Nishiya] says: And you can always chat with me if you’re handsome and strong enough…

Umm… are you supposed to flirt with others here?

Did I forget something?

Well … now you have the main thing to start role-playing. It is so simple. Do not need anymore. A story , no matter how small, people around you for interpretation, and above all, many, many, many eager to learn . Because it is. There are many problems and mistakes you can make, especially in the early days. Some you will see for yourself, while others may get a little more blood.

But anyway, I will delve into these little issues the next time we meet here. If they don’t kick me out…

[Nishiya] says: You wouldn’t surprise me, human. They end up kicking you out of every place they go, hee hee hee.

He spoke to someone who was not allowed to enter the auction house due to a public scandal.

[Nishiya] says: Hey… no one told me that naked dancing is forbidden. Fighting for Free Silvermoon City! Get naked! Go! … Hm? Why are you taking me? I didn’t do anything wrong! Let me go! You are spoiled!

Oh… (sigh). I’m afraid I can’t stay for today anymore, I need to get the crazy elf out of jail.

See you soon! Feel free to critique/ask what you want. And feel free to visit us at Los Errantes!

Resolvers: Time to Shift | Tesera

Resolvers: Time to Shift is an app-based board game announced in July 2022. Work on the game has been underway since 2020, the release is scheduled for 2023.

🦾 Time jumping gameplay:

  • choose a character with unique abilities
  • decide whether to separate or act together
  • pass skill checks with augmentations
  • choose where to go, what to do and how to build a dialogue with the NPC
  • in the final, decide how to prevent a crime in the past: what event to change
  • Returning to the past, act on the basis of previously acquired knowledge. A mistake will lead to new problems in the present and loss

Mist Machine is a distributed team of game designers and developers. 4 “game designers” are responsible for “gameplay”:

  • Sergey Usminsky (“game design”, project management)
  • Damir Khusnatdinov (procedural generation)
  • Konstantin Seleznev (combat mechanics, RPG system, quests and economy)
  • Sergey Prytula (story and narrative game design)

Four authors of games of different genres, successfully published in Russia and abroad, united in the Mist Machine studio. For the studio, this game will be a debut if crowdfunding is successful.

“We managed to create a real studio, and this allows us to put everything we wanted into the game, and not just one thing at a time. We have a replayable investigation, we have an adventure detective story, we have a plot branching” — says the head of the studio Sergey Usminsky.

The main features of the game are detective and time travel replay value. From one to four players choose their own characters and plunge into the cyberpunk world to investigate the crime, and then go back in time and prevent it. The replay value provided by the mobile app means changing killers, clues and motives.

“Variable and branching adventures allow you to play each scenario in very different ways. And the decisions of the players matter until the very end, ” — talks about the game’s chips, game designer Sergey Pritula. “ Our application was created not just for the wow effect and adding functionality that is inaccessible to the cardboard. It is to ensure that the game is always fun and never a headache ,” adds Damir Khusnatdinov.

Resolvers is a fully cooperative RPG. Unlike many detectives, all players are really involved in the investigation: the characters complement each other’s abilities, and the players participate in other people’s moves.
