With 30 hours of massive game play, lots of playable characters, rich post game and nicely crafted scenarios, it will take weeks for the player to enjoy it to the fullest.

Apart from the onerous loading times that could alienate a few, the chemistry of blending time management with a complex and engaging battle system while tying it altogether with an engaging story and brilliant voice acting is an achievement that has eluded large development teams with years of game creation experience. I wholly recommend Regalia to fans who enjoy RPGs and I will be the first to put my hand up for the review of the next game this developer comes up with.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Regalia is a great game. It has everything you could ask for from a strategy RPG and then some. Unfortunately, it has a few technical and design issues that really hold it back from being as good as it could be, but it’s still hard not to recommend it.

Despite some truly obtrusive load times and a script littered with grammatical errors, Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs manages to carry itself relatively well thanks to a unique approach to turn-based strategy and a relatively charming cast.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs — Royal Edition will grab the player’s attention thanks to its plot and marvelous humour featured throughout the game, reinforced by the marvelous voice acting and visuals. Unfortunately its combat system does not follow suit and the experience ends up being less accessible and enjoyable than it should, aggravated by immensely long loading times.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs — Royal Edition is a mixed bag of an adventure. It is worth a visit but performance issues and dull gameplay mean it may not be worth a stay.

Overall, Regalia is a deep game with a lot to do, but it’s also a game that is hard, especially as players learn the ropes early on. It’s also a game with some design issues that lessen the experience, and between those and the long, frequent load times, it’s a game that can wear out its welcome. Those are things to keep in mind before foraging into this adventure.

I think the game is really beautiful and pleasant. The only thing I miss in it is more developed development trees, but I can not fault the rest.

Persona-esque structure; you have deadlines to meet objectives which is mostly a mix of going through dungeons and spending the day with your party members/vendors to go through their respective vignettes to power them up and increase party perks slightly.
Gameplay is a lot of fun; tactical in nature and if you try to knock out all the missions are appropriately difficult. Good variety in party, although towards midway I mostly stuck to my favorite ~5 and ignored all the rest. Some of the text RP is pretty cool, too. Gameplay is as hard or easy as you’d like, with sliders for increasing your damage dealt and reducing enemy damage. One bad crash had me burn through previously completed fights just to catch up.
Storyline is self aware but not cringingly so, akin to Disgaea1. Charming/entertaining. Good voice acting and art.… Expand

I had been looking for a tactics-type game other than the Mario one after recently purchasing a Switch and for the money on eShop I’m happy with this. The loading times, whilst a bit longer than hoped don’t detract from the gameplay and there isn’t that much of it. Worth a buy if you like this type of game.… Expand

Regalia has some interesting things going for it. I was blown away by the gorgeous character designs and illustrated portraits and the tactical combat also impressed me with unique systems that made it a bit more than just a cookie cutter tactical RPG. Unfortunately, for as much as I loved those aspects, hamfisted humor and clunky menu navigation on console dampened what could have otherwise been a magical experience. It’s hard to get past those issues, but if you’re able to, there some truly special stuff here in Regalia.

If you’ve been crying out for a good console strategy RPG you should give Regalia a go, it’s not perfect, but it’s an exceptionally well told yarn.

The fighting can occasionally feel unfair and the plot is average, but the engaging combat as well as the humorous tone of the narrative combine together to create a solid and entertaining JRPG experience.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs — Royal Edition is a 30-40 hour adventure, with plenty of replay value when considering the additional in-game DLC, that does a convincing job capturing the spirit and charm of the JRPG formula while providing competent turn-based battles at the same time. The developer has achieved its goal, but doesn’t really make an effort to go above and beyond multiple other (and technically more authentic) offerings already available. There are a few notable shortcomings; however, being able to adjust gameplay settings on the fly makes this a game that can be enjoyed by veterans and newcomers alike.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs for Xbox One is a light-hearted Japanese RPG
Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs was one of the most popular JRPGs of the past year, and as a result, the game received critical acclaim from regular players. Come April 12, however, Xbox One owners will no longer be left out of the fun; Regalia is expected to receive a console release with an expansion. Here’s what the game has to offer, and why you might want to give it a try. nine0003
- See Microsoft Store
- Watch on Steam
The Heir to the Throne (and his accounts)
Basically, the Regalia is unusual compared to other JRPGs. Most of them are serious in tone and have a thought-provoking theme, but with the Regalia, things are more lighthearted. You play as Kay Lauren, the sole heir to the throne of the Regalia Kingdom. Destroyed by the war of the Crusades, the fiefdom lies in ruins. It’s up to you, your two sisters and your bodyguard to start over and return Regalia to glory, joke and have fun along the way. nine0003
However, things are not so simple. You are soon informed that the previous rulers of the Regalia ended up in debt, and now the bill is in your hands. While you’re rebuilding Regalia, you’ll also need to keep finances at bay, and if you don’t, things will get a lot worse.
A great fight that you can accept or avoid
When it comes to fighting creatures, humans, or other types of enemies, Regalia mixes the classic turn-based style of many RPGs with playing chess on a game board. The result is a tactical game that requires you to choose where and how you will use your characters wisely. The game is admittedly simple, but you can lose surprisingly quickly if you let your guard down and underestimate your opponent. nine0003
One of the most important features of Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is that you are allowed to skip almost all battles in the game without consequences. While I love a good fight, I understand that some people just want to fight back and enjoy the story. Skipping this battle will allow them to do so, and it’s a feature we rarely see in today’s gaming market.
A whole new world
To say that the presentation of the Regalia is fantastic would be an understatement. The art design and graphics are great, bright and colorful, all of which make the game a pleasure to look at. A particularly interesting and rarely seen concept is the fact that the various backgrounds in the game are hand-drawn. nine0003
Musically the title does not disappoint. Thanks to an orchestral score created by Game Audio Factory (a famous band that created for indie games), the score of Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is amazingly detailed and rich. In addition, great voice acting and other forms of sound design often greatly enhance writing and gameplay.

Regalia: Men and Monarchs Xbox One review — Solid and silly JRPG
Many JRPGs tend to be serious and mature in tone and theme. Sure, it’s not bad, but rarely does this genre take a more flippant approach. Regalia: Men and Monarchs, the hit PC game recently released for Xbox One, does just that. The game sometimes feels a bit unfair and the story itself isn’t all that exciting, but after these issues, Regalia offers a very enjoyable experience that’s well worth your time. nine0003
See in the Microsoft Store
History: Inherit the kingdom (and its debt)
In Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs, you play as Kay Lauren, heir to the once great kingdom known as the Regalia. After a devastating series of armed conflicts, the earth is in tatters and it’s up to you to restore it. Kay, only a young man, is afraid of this task. However, things take a turn for the worse when a businessman named Crucy arrives to inform you that the previous rulers of the kingdom were drowning in financial debt. Since you are the new ruler of the Regalia, you must now produce the funds yourself. nine0003
With the help of your two sisters and your royal bodyguard, you must explore the lands, restore the kingdom and bring it to a profitable state so that you can pay off the banks. Failure to do so will cause things to get ugly. The situation is grim, but that doesn’t stop everyone on the team from trying to stay upbeat and keep the jokes and lightheartedness.
Ultimately, this stupid tone is what makes the game as a whole solid. The plot itself isn’t that compelling and it would be nice to see the characters develop further, but the abundance of jokes and sarcasm means you’ll be laughing at this adventure. nine0003
Gameplay: Fast-paced, challenging combat
When it comes to story, anything can be sunshine and candy, but Regalia: Of Men and Monarch fight where things get serious. Using a traditional turn-based combat system on a grid, the game’s formula is far from unique, but the best part about it is that you’re never allowed to heal your characters in the middle of a fight. This means that every turn is critical, as no damage can be undone (only shields can be refilled). nine0003
For the most part, this system results in very intense but enjoyable experiences that will challenge your tactical mind. However, it is worth noting that many of these commitments seem unfair. In these cases, I found that I was only able to win because I was lucky with the random numbers generating the damage values of my attacks, not because I made the right strategic decisions.
Luckily, Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs offers an alternative for players who don’t want to get into the tough battles: the option to skip them entirely. Personally, I feel that not participating in the game’s combat system means you’re missing out on a lot of the fun, but for some gamers, they prefer to just sit back and enjoy the story, music, and artwork without worrying about the combat. Players with this mindset will love it. nine0003
Regalia: Men and Monarchs Xbox One
conclusion
Combat can feel unfair at times, and the plot is a mediocre but exciting fight, as well as the story’s humorous tone combine to create a solid and interesting JRPG experience.
