The Outlast Trials Closed Beta: FAQs

Thank you for joining us during the Closed Beta weekend, going on from Oct 28 to Nov 1!
Here are answers to some questions people have been asking us:

How can I play The Outlast Trials – Closed Beta

The best way to play The Outlast Trials is to Request Access on the store page of the game in Steam: The Outlast Trials

When does The Outlast Trials – Closed Beta Test occur?

The Closed Beta will be live from Friday, October 28th to Tuesday, November 1st. The game will roll out gradually on the day of the release. If you’ve added the game to your Steam wishlist, you should receive a notification once the game is available for you to download so remember to keep checking.

Will everyone be able to play the Closed Beta?

Our plan is to make the game accessible globally and to as many players as possible. If some major technical issues occur though, we may have to close down the game servers temporarily or permanently in one or multiple regions.

Will The Outlast Trials have a single-player campaign, or is it full multiplayer?

The Outlast Trials is fully playable in single-player and in cooperative multiplayer. All the content of the game can be completed alone or with a group of players. There are no limitations.

Is a persistent online connection required?

You must have an Internet connection to play The Outlast Trials whether you play alone (1 player) or with friends (2-3 or 4 players). For the best experience, we recommend playing with an Ethernet cable connection or over Wi-Fi. It would be best to make sure you have a strong and reliable connection.

How does the game play out compared to the others? Will it be shorter, or longer? Are there similar game mechanics as earlier ones? (Notes, recordings, batteries, etc. ) And is it more recommended to play with friends or does playing alone work just as fine?

The Outlast Trials builds on previous Outlast games by offering more variety, more exploration, new challenges, and new gameplay elements all while keeping what made Outlast so unique: horror, scare, mysteries, gore, and surprises. For the first time ever, the game can be played as a group of up to 4 players. It is not required to have played the previous Outlast games to enjoy The Outlast Trials.

When will The Outlast Trials come to Xbox, PS, and switch? Will it be old gen too?

We have no announcement to make at this point, but it is important for us to offer the game to as many players as possible.

I’ve encountered some bugs/issues, how should I report them?

Please join us on Discord to provide information on the issues you’ve encountered by submitting a modmail ticket and share your feedback through the appropriate channels. The information you provide to us will be very helpful for our team so they can analyze and resolve these issues. Keep in mind The Outlast Trials is a work in progress and we will prioritize game breaking bugs this weekend and will be working to fix other issues in the future for full launch.

My game is crashing on startup, what can I do?

If you experience crashes, please report any relevant information in the crash reporter and submit it to us. If you crash frequently, please switch the game to DirectX 11 in the settings.

If you crash at startup, go into the Properties section of The Outlast Trials Closed Beta app and in the Launch Options type: -dx11. This will allow you to switch the game to DirectX 11. The game might be slightly slower though but you will be able to play it.

I cannot start one of the generators in the basement of Police Station, what can I do?

It might happen that you don’t have green target zones to crank a generator located in the basement of Police Station. If you play with other players, they might be able to see the green zone and start the generator properly but if you’re playing alone, unfortunately, it’s a walk-through break. You’ll need to quit your game and start a new one.

When will the game be released?

Our team is currently working hard on The Outlast Trials and we have not set an exact release date yet. When we do we will communicate it on our social media, so make sure to follow us here:

ON THE THRESHOLD OF THE GLOBAL CRISIS. GAME INDUSTRY 2022.

E3 didn’t take place this year, but individual game publishers have all held online presentations showing games from 2022-23. A spectacle, for the most part heartbreaking, because there were not many major releases at all (as a rule, these are games that were postponed from 2021). I will note. that this year in the gaming industry several extremely disturbing trends have emerged at once, the development of which I would like to talk about in this article. nine0003
CRISIS IS NEAR

It is now clear that in 2020 the world has entered the Global Economic Crisis, the full scale of which we have yet to realize and comprehend. We can confidently say that such a crisis was not only in our memory, but also in the memory of our parents. There will be no more one global world. We are in for a decade of wars and economic upheaval. The standard of living in the world will fall significantly. Some states will cease to exist. Probably, everything will end with a big war in the Pacific and the collapse of the dollar economic space into separate currency zones. nine0007

As a result, game companies around the world are entering into a mode of severe resource saving and relying on cheaper projects. The new pillar of the gaming industry will be games-services (AAA will die), the support of which will allow game developers to survive the most difficult times that will follow the collapse of the financial markets. F2P entertainment will get a second wind, because in a world shaking with financial and logistical problems, people will have much less money, but more free time. nine0007

Now it might seem that Blizzard and Ubisoft have gone crazy with the release of «donate dumps». However, in reality, they are trying to test new monetization models on “rabbits” that can be successfully applied in the harsh new world. For casual gamers this is bad news, because it means that the giants will soon stop producing most AAA titles.

PS5 PROJECT CLOSED

The console generation has an average lifespan of 6 years. This year, the Playstation 5 will overcome its first third. The saddest thing about this situation is that the Japanese console has almost no exclusives, and those that do will be ported to PC. It can be assumed that in the conditions of a shortage of semiconductors, which are superimposed by logistical difficulties, the PS5 will not be able to become the flagship of the industry, which means that SONY will release 1-2 major games a year. At the same time, some of them will turn out to be remasters (like, for example, Last of Us 1, the remaster of which does not make sense at all, because it was already remastered in 2014). nine0007

My guess is that SONY is currently developing an online gaming service where the PS5 will be one of the few supported devices along with PCs and smartphones. In such an environment, PS5 exclusives do not so much support the corporation as hinder its development. In short, the PS5 will not live up to the expectations of the players. There will be few exclusives on it, due to the changed policy of SONY. In light of the current problems, it can be assumed that GoW3 and Horizon 3 will be multi-platform. nine0007

The future of SONY looks sad, because the corporation enters the service competition later than anyone else, and even starts its “blitzkrieg” from an initially weak position. Moreover, SONY does not understand that the ugly demarche of the corporation in the Russian Federation not only harmed the Russian players, but undermined the position of SONY itself not only in the RU region (where there are such strongholds of democracy as Georgia, Kazakhstan and Armenia), but throughout the world . Who will buy a device left without support from its manufacturer is an open question. nine0007

MICROSOFT AND BETHESDA PROBLEMS

In 2022, it became clear that the XBOX is a useless green box. With a high degree of probability, there will no longer be exclusives on it, because almost all interesting projects that appear on the box will be ported to the PC. The point of buying an XBOX is currently completely absent. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the current generation of boxes turned out to be Microsoft’s last.

At the Soft Bethesda conference, the developers showed Starfield, which looks as dull as Soviet films about space wrapped in polyethylene. Even fan-cursed Call of Duty Infinite Warfare looked better. To be honest, I don’t remember such a visually dull role-playing game, most of which is drowning in stone gray (all this is extremely reminiscent of the first Assassin’s Creed, and this is not a compliment). I am afraid that in the next five years we will not see anything new from the gazebo. TES VI, most likely, will be released after the acute phase of the crisis at the end of the current generation of consoles, and not everyone will be able to play Summerset (or rather, few will be able to do it). nine0007

RedFall was also shown to the players, but to be honest, the new Arcane game did not impress me at all. It looks like a classic hipster disgrace and a project for those who are fans of the 80s (usually those who did not live in the eighties). And it’s not scary, and not serious, and you also need to climb stairs.

PROBLEMS OF ACTIVISION BLIZZARD

What happens in A-B can be characterized by the immortal phrase of a Russian political figure from the MTV era: “If you put you on the ass or in another position, it’s still no use. ” nine0007

If Microsoft is picking up its tails to survive the future, then the SJW apocalypse has arrived in the AB conglomerate. Instead of doing business, the developers of the office sculpt a diversity assessment tool and rivet mobile stores on their knees, focused on scooping as many green coins out of people’s pockets as possible. If you hope that Diablo IV or OW2 will be normal games, then your hopes will not come true because a) there are no normal developers and managers left in the office, b) Blizzard games are no longer interested, they make a store (why did we let’s look at the example of Diablo Immortal when I go through it to the end). Most likely, Activision will shut down Bizzard shop after another failure (of course, there is a chance that the DIV team will take up their minds, but this is hard to believe). nine0007

Meanwhile, Activision showed the next part of Call of Duty, in which the enemies are: Mexican drug cartels, Iranians and Russians. In general, it is expected. It remains to add the Chinese to this honorary list and a new axis of evil will be formed. In turn, we are waiting for the Chinese games, where the “yellow-faced devils” piss off the world democratizers from the bottom of their hearts (see Chinese cinema). In general, of course, it is interesting. how the game landscape will change as part of the new Ice Confrontation. We saw something like that in the late 80s, but now they will hit virtual targets from both sides. nine0007

UBISOFT HAS NO PROBLEMS

There are no problems because there are no new games. The Ubik demo was about Assassins Creed Origins, which ran at 60fps. Not only is this a game of the last generation, but also patches like this, ordinary fanatics make in a couple of weeks.

Then they showed dragons in Valhalla and then it became clear that the guys went crazy. Such a strange approach to the development of a historical series has clear signs of psychological illness. The developers of this nightmare should not be so much sorry as treated. nine0007

As the new Assassin’s hit the developer hell, Ubiki decided to keep gamers entertained online with Ghost Recon, Division and Skulls and Bones (if it could get to a release in the fall). In general, everything is very bad, since the problems mentioned above are also superimposed on a series of harassment scandals from which the internal studios of Ubisoft are shaking. Indeed, when to do work, if some programmers pester others every day (in the place of the top managers of Ubisoft, I would simply gather the staff in a sharashka, somewhere near Shanghai and make them work from the keyboard until sunset). nine0007

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ubisoft was sold to SONY in the next couple of years and the gaming world was surprised by another «deal of the century».

KOREA CLAIMS TO LEADERSHIP

What I warned about a couple of years ago has happened. The banner of single games, which fell from the clutches of Western igrodelov, was picked up by Eastern companies. More precisely, the Koreans, who understand the Western player, are much better than the Japanese, and even more so the Chinese. As a result, one of the most anticipated games of the year is made by the Korean studio Krafton, which has picked up the creative team of Dead Space under its wing. If the game becomes a big hit, then the Koreans will most likely start funding other niche single-player projects. At the same time, Korean games will be released immediately on all platforms, undermining the credibility of consoles 9th generation.

CREATIVE ASSEMBLY AND HIPSTERS

I will end my review of the summer gaming conference with a story about the epic failure of the Total War authors, who presented another Fortnite clone to the players. The game from the authors of Aliens is a PvX shooter about a team of colorful hipsters who fight capitalists on skateboard planks. Of course, they fight in space, since the Russian Federation and the United States destroyed the planet.

Hyenas looks like Bleeding Edge, XDefiant, Crucible and Battleborn. The chances of survival in our harsh strange world for such a game are close to zero. One can only guess what the authors were thinking when developing such a strange and outdated game. Probably, the developers are not aware that battle royales have given way to projects in the style of Tarkov and Hunt Showdown. All this will end sadly, but fools can only be taught by a rake that hits the same place from time to time. nine0007

CONCLUSION

We are on the cusp of an epic change that will change the face of the gaming industry for decades to come. Ahead of us is waiting for a lot of interesting, and possibly dangerous. However, you should not hang your nose. As another figure from the MTV era (no, this is not Vasya Strelnikov) said on a similar occasion: “But we will calculate, and then everyone will know everything. And we are first. And if someone is too smart, let him think, and then we will check. And we will report anywhere.”

12 most anticipated games that missed E3 2021

E3 2021 turned out to be strange. Which is not surprising, given the digital format amid the ongoing restrictions associated with the coronavirus pandemic. Except for a few new titles, like Guardians of the Galaxy and a bunch of indie projects, already well-known games became the headliners of the gaming event. But even among them, a huge number missed the event.

We have already been warned not to wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong, Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad, The Division: Heartland and Hogwarts Legacy. The same goes for the new Call of Duty, Dead Island 2, Saints Row, the new Metro and many other projects. nine0007

Every pass has its own reasons. Someone is focusing on development, others have already scheduled shows for other events. Still others, not without reason, believe that the E3 format is outdated.

And yet, at the current E3, there was definitely a lack of large-scale projects from different publishers. We have compiled a list of 12 of the most anticipated titles that missed the June event.

#1 The Elder Scrolls VI

Although it was clear that there was not much time at the Microsoft + Bethesda event and Starfield would be the main focus, the complete absence of TES VI is somewhat sad. Moreover, the release of Starfield is scheduled for November 2022, which means that the new part of the Scrolls can not be expected until at least 2025.

Bethesda is not the kind of studio that did several large projects at once in parallel. There were always years between her releases.

#2 Beyond Good and Evil 2

According to the latest rumors, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in the early stages of development, despite being made a few years ago. At this pace, we will see long-term construction not earlier than the middle of the decade. More daring analysts believe that the game may not come out at all.

But the playable beta was planned for 2019.

#3 Dragon Age 4

We don’t know what the progress of Dragon Age 4 is. Apart from art, simple trailers and a few screenshots, we haven’t seen anything remotely resembling the gameplay of the next part of the RPG yet. And the reshuffle in the leadership did not improve the situation. And given the new general manager’s desire to restore its former reputation, BioWare will need to put in even more effort to make everything the fans of the series deserve. The studio may not survive another failure after Anthem. nine0007

#4 Skull and Bones

Another unfinished Ubisoft, stuck somewhere in timelessness. The game was announced back at E3 2017 — that was already five years ago! This means that F2P with ships and pirates has been made for at least six or seven years. But even then they showed staged gameplay. Since then, Ubisoft has postponed the release of the game again, again and again, restarting development a couple of times.

Now the title is expected only by 2023. It looks like Skull & Bones has been affected by the same plague as Splinter Cell. nine0007

#5 Final Fantasy 16

It would seem that Square Enix is holding its presentation at E3, which means it should also show Final Fantasy 16… But no. What’s more, the publisher hasn’t even announced a PC port of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Probably the publisher decided to hold the projects until gamescom or even September.

#6 Wolfenstein 3

The number of announcements from Bethesda studios at E3 2021 turned out to be surprisingly meager. Even if TES 6 is still a hell of a way off, there was an expectation among the MachineGames fan community that the studio would at least tease a new Wolfenstein game that was announced back in 2018. nine0007

It’s important to note here that the team is also developing an Indiana Jones title. It’s still at a very early stage of development and we don’t know how the internal teams are divided. Did the studio switch to Indiana after Wolfenstein Youngblood? Are there any developments for a new full-fledged Wolfenstein?

#7 Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta 3 was announced at The Game Awards 2017. Since then, Platinum Games has repeatedly said that development is going well and at full speed. But why the triquel took almost five years, the team did not explain. nine0007

According to rumors, Bayonetta 3’s team of developers is not that big, and in addition to this game, Platinum has several other priority projects.

#8 New Firaxis game

The last time Firaxis released the XCOM spin-off Chimera Squad was last year. And before that, back in 2016, Civilization VI was released. Given such a long hiatus since the release of the 4X strategy, fans of the series have expectations that Firaxis will release Civilization VII before the end of 2022. Its development is definitely underway, but for a long time the team has also been maintaining the current part, releasing two massive expansions and a dozen DLCs. nine0007

Previously, there were rumors that Firaxis was working on a game codenamed CODA. Allegedly, this is a new turn-based strategy in the Marvel universe. It was described simply as «XCOM with Marvel heroes».

#9 State of Decay 3

The game was announced last summer, but then it was announced that the game was in pre-production. This means that it will be years before she sees the light of day. There is practically no news about her at all, so skipping E3 2021 is not so surprising. The history of Cyberpunk 2077 forced many studios to reconsider their attitude to communication with the community in the early stages of development. nine0007

#10 Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order 2

Like Dragon Age 4, Respawn’s sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is in a relatively early stage of development. Perhaps teasers or some illustrations for both titles will be shown on EA Play in the second half of July.

Meanwhile, a next-gen version of Fallen Order has become available.

#11 Forspoken

With Forspoken positioned as a temporary PS5 exclusive, the E3 2021 skip was expected. In addition, the game was already shown in March at the State of Play — then they announced the name and showed the gameplay. If there are any additions this year, it will be exactly within the framework of Sony presentations.

#12 The Callisto Protocol

The spiritual successor to Dead Space, developed by the creator of the original series, Glen Scofield. The game was announced in December 2020, with a release scheduled for 2022.
