PlayStation Plus Free Games for October 2022 Now Available

The new lineup of free games on PlayStation Plus for the month of October 2022 are now available to download. As we have come to expect on a routine basis, PlayStation has today pushed live the latest group of PS Plus titles on the first Tuesday of the month. And while this group of games from PS5 and PS4 are perhaps not as strong as normal, there’s still plenty here that should keep PlayStation fans busy.
In total, PS Plus Essential subscribers can download three games in total over the course of October 2022. Those games include Hot Wheels Unleashed, Injustice 2, and Superhot. While all three of these games are playable across both PS5 and PS4, only Hot Wheels Unleashed is arriving on PS Plus with a native PS5 version. Conversely, both Injustice 2 and Superhot are only available as PS4 titles, although they can still be experienced on PS5 via the console’s backward compatible function.
Likely the best thing about this group of PS Plus games for October 2022 is the variety. Within this lineup, PlayStation is giving out a racing game, a fighting game, and a first-person shooter with puzzle elements. All in all, there’s surely something in this group that most PS5 and PS4 fans will find to their own enjoyment.

Hot Wheels Unleashed

Sony officially reveals the free PlayStation Plus games for October 2022, consisting of three titles across PS4 and PS5 consoles.
Sony has officially announced the free PlayStation Plus games for October 2022, with next month’s offerings consisting of three titles in total. While there have been some exceptions to the rule, Sony generally announces the new free PlayStation Plus games on the last Wednesday of each month, with the titles set to be added on the first Tuesday of the following month.
That’s exactly what’s happened with the latest free PS Plus games, which will be rotated in on Tuesday, October 4. Better yet, all three titles will be available to PS Plus subscribers across PS4 and PS5 thanks to PS5’s backward compatibility feature.

The free PS Plus games for October 2022 are Hot Wheels Unleashed, Injustice 2, and Superhot. There are only PS4 versions of Injustice 2 and Superhot available, but PS Plus subscribers can check out a native PS5 version of Hot Wheels Unleashed if they have managed to get their hands on Sony’s next-generation console.

Hot Wheels Unleashed is a racing game based on the famous toy brand, originally releasing last year to relatively mixed reviews. Injustice 2, meanwhile, is a well-reviewed fighting game from Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios that pits some of DC Comics’ most famous heroes and villains against one another. And finally, Superhot is a first-person shooter with a unique gimmick.
In Superhot, time stands still except for when the player character is moving, which adds a certain puzzle-solving element to the carnage.
Overall, the free PS Plus games for October 2022 seem like a solid lineup, though it remains to be seen how PS Plus subscribers will react to the offerings. In the meantime, those wondering about the new PS Plus Extra and Premium games will have to wait, as Sony has said the announcement for the higher-tier services will come «later this month.»
There are only two days left in September, so it’s unclear if Sony is being literal and will make the announcement about the new PS Plus Extra and Premium games for October 2022 within the next couple of days, or if it will wait until later in October. Sony had been announcing the new PS Plus Extra and Premium games in the middle of the month, but it broke from that pattern with the PS Plus games for September 2022, opting to reveal them all at once instead.
