Esports is not a game for fun

July 2, 2022

In Russia, there is a shortage of programmers who are able to establish import substitution of information technologies, software, and equipment. Growing professionals is offered not only in universities, but also with the help of computer games. Therefore, they plan to hold more eSports competitions and introduce such lessons into the educational program. The eSports Federation believes that only those who study well can be allowed to play computer games in schools. This was discussed at a meeting of the working group under the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports on July 1.
nine0003

How to grow programmers

In the computer sphere, Russia uses games, platforms, equipment developed in unfriendly states, said Amir Khamitov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, head of the working group on the development of cybersports (New People).

“In the context of economic sanctions, we risk increasing the technological gap from other countries, and in order to prevent this, we must support domestic software developers, games and IT specialists, who are known to be among the best in the world,” stressed deputy. According to him, Russia needs to create an alternative international eSports system.
nine0003

The state is already providing significant support to IT companies — they have the right to tax benefits, reduced insurance premiums, soft loans. IT people can take a preferential mortgage and take advantage of a deferment from the army. But despite this, there are not enough specialists, said Anton Tkachev, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications (New People). Russia needs 2.5 million programmers, and now, according to HeadHunter, only 1.1 million are working in the industry.
nine0003

In Europe and the USA, they are looking for talented programmers not only among university graduates, but also among cybersportsmen. In Russia, they want to adopt this practice.

“Guys who are involved in eSports need to be led from a school family to employment,” Tkachev said. According to him, the union of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Education and Business to support cybersportsmen can give a return faster than the training of IT specialists in universities, although they plan to train more programmers there as well.
nine0003

The majority of Russian esportsmen compete in games developed abroad. But our country also has successful developments, for example, the Black Book adventure game, released in 2021, dedicated to the Urals and the traditions of this region, said Dmitry Smith, head of the Russian eSports Federation. He believes that computer games are “a conductor of ideas and values, an element of “soft power” and the promotion of Russian culture in the world.

“Our task now is to integrate Russian developments into competitions and help as many countries as possible participate in these competitions,” Smith said.
nine0003

Students playing Counter Strike

Since 2017, eSports competitions have been held in Russia. According to the director of the youth policy department of the Ministry of Education and Science Denis Ashirov , then 3200 people participated in them, and now there are more than 13 thousand students from 50 regions.

No less interest in computer sports among schoolchildren. In 2021, students from a thousand schools participated in competitions at various levels. These talented guys can join the ranks of IT specialists.
nine0003

In the future, they want to include esports lessons in the school curriculum. “We will work on this together with the relevant ministries. Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science supported this idea,” Amir Khamitov told Parliamentary Gazeta .

First, such lessons should be made an optional discipline and look at the reaction of parents, Dmitry Smith believes.

« The fact is that computer sports, despite the fact that it is now spread all over the planet, for many parents still remains something incomprehensible. If now immediately and abruptly introduce binding, it may cause a negative reaction, — he said. — But in any case, I insist that the criterion for admission to e-sports would be overall academic performance.

The global eSports audience exceeds 230 million people. These competitions originated in the United States, but Russia became the first country in the world to officially recognize eSports in 2001. Since then, video games are not just entertainment, but a profession that can earn money and titles. Esports tournaments have the status of official sporting events. These are competitions in the virtual space in which individual participants or teams compete. In the city we hold computer and video game tournaments on a regular basis: once a year, contra 1.6 is a traditional rather large-scale tournament. Less ambitious in fife, racing and fighting games. The plans include the first Starcraft and Anril 9 tournament9 — but unfortunately the current generation of young people do not play them, and all who are older have moved away from games in principle. But yesterday we held a Mortal 9th tournament and surprised a large number of applicants, even those over 30. Unfortunately, only 4 people were admitted due to the regulations. Fought for a prize — a game console.

Are there people in the city who are over 30 ready to take part in a retro games tournament?

P.S. Below I uploaded pictures of the 12th year counter tournament: 130 people came to the tournament, of which 80 were admitted (they could not accept more). This is my first large-scale tournament 5×5

Second 2013 2×2, 40 people participated.
