Onyxia’s Lair Attunement and Drakefire Amulet — WoW Classic Season of Mastery — Guides

Welcome to Wowhead’s guide to the Attunement required to enter Onyxia’s Lair in WoW Classic. In this guide, we will cover all the steps and requirements to earn the Drakefire Amulet , which enables your character to enter Onyxia’s Lair. Alliance and Horde characters have separate attunement paths to follow.

Season of Mastery
World of Warcraft Classic is getting its first «Season» with Season of Mastery. Seasons will have six content phases, lasting roughly 2 months for each phase, for a total of a 12 month cadence. When the Season ends, characters will have the option to transfer to permanent Classic Era realms before the Season servers are shut down. Season of Mastery will feature faster leveling, new raid mechanics, the removal of world buffs in raids, and many other changes.

Onyxia’s Lair Raid Strategy Overview in WoW Classic

Onyxia Attunement in WoW Classic Season of Mastery

To enter Onyxia’s Lair, every player in the raid must have the Drakefire Amulet with them in their bags, not in their bank. This is the key that allows entry. It’s not enough to have a party or raid leader with this item; all raid members must have their own copy.

Regardless if you and your guild have chosen to side with the Alliance or Horde, there will be an extensive chain of quests that will need to be completed to earn the Drakefire Amulet and enter Onyxia’s Lair. This quest chain varies depending on which faction you have chosen. In this guide, we will go over the unique quest chain for both factions!

Alliance Quests for Onyxia Attunement in WoW Classic

The Alliance quests start in Morgan’s Vigil in Burning Steppes, with other quests leading to Redridge Mountains, Stormwind City, Blackrock Depths (dungeon), Winterspring, and Upper Blackrock Spire (dungeon).

Dragonkin Menace

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Helendis Riverhorn, Morgan’s Vigil, Burning Steppes, /way 85.6 69.0
  • Zone(s): Burning Steppes

This quest requires the player to travel around Burning Steppes slaying black dragonkin. Black Broodlings are level 51-52 and easy to farm, but Black Dragonspawn, Black Wyrmkin, and Black Drakes are all level 50-54 elite mobs and may require a group. These are located all along the eastern edge of the zone.

The True Masters

  • Quest Starts: Helendis Riverhorn, Morgan’s Vigil, Burning Steppes, /way 85.6 69.0
  • Quest Ends: Depends on quest stage
  • Zone(s): Burning Steppes, Redridge Mountains, Stormwind City

Helendis Riverhorn will then give you Helendis Riverhorn’s Letter, asking you to deliver it to Magistrate Solomon in Lakeshire, Redridge Mountains in the town hall, /way 30.0 44.2. From here follows a series of five quests, all sharing the same name.

  • The True Masters — Take Solomon’s Plea to King Wrynn to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon in Stormwind Keep, Stormwind City, /way 78 18.
  • The True Masters — Speak to Lady Katrana Prestor nearby, at /way 78.0 17.8, then talk to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon again.
  • The True Masters — Talk to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon , receive Wrynn’s Decree, and return to Magistrate Solomon in Lakeshire, Redridge Mountains.
  • The True Masters — Speak to Marshal Maxwell at Morgan’s Vigil in Burning Steppes, /way 84.6 68.8.
  • The True Masters — Find Ragged John in a cave north of the Ruins of Thaurissan, Burning Steppes, /way 65.0 23.6, and return to Marshal Maxwell at Morgan’s Vigil.

Marshal Windsor

  • Quest Starts: Marshal Maxwell at Morgan’s Vigil in Burning Steppes, /way 84.6 68.8
  • Quest Ends: Marshal Windsor, Blackrock Depths jail, Windsor Cell
  • Zone(s): Burning Steppes, Blackrock Depths (dungeon)

Once inside Blackrock Depths, find Marshal Windsor in a prison cell down a corridor on the right side of the dungeon. Turn in the quest to him.

Abandoned Hope

  • Quest Starts: Marshal Windsor, Blackrock Depths jail, Windsor Cell
  • Quest Ends: Marshal Maxwell at Morgan’s Vigil in Burning Steppes, /way 84. 6 68.8
  • Zone(s): Blackrock Depths (dungeon), Burning Steppes

He will tell you that he has lost all of his data concerning the enemy and to take the bad news back to Marshal Maxwell to complete the quest. This appears to be the end of the quest chain, but there’s a less-than-obvious next step.

A Crumpled Up Note

  • Quest Starts: A Crumpled Up Note, Blackrock Depths
  • Quest Ends: Marshal Windsor, Blackrock Depths jail, Windsor Cell
  • Zone(s): Blackrock Depths (dungeon)

This quest is obtained from A Crumpled Up Note, a randomly dropped item from Blackrock Depths. One of the easiest ways to attain this isn’t even inside the dungeons — it’s off the non-elite slaves found just outside the instance. You can also get them from random mobs inside the instance, but the slaves are a very easy grind and don’t have to be done in a group. Just bear in mind that to turn in the quest, you’ll have to go back inside to the Windsor Cell in the jail block to give it to Marshal Windsor.

A Shred of Hope

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Marshal Windsor, Blackrock Depths jail, Windsor Cell
  • Zone(s): Blackrock Depths (dungeon)

Marshal Windsor asks you to receive his lost information being held by General Angerforge and Golem Lord Argelmach. These two bosses are located deep within Blackrock Depths. Kill them and loot both Marshal Windsor’s Lost Information (Angerforge) and Marshal Windsor’s Lost Information (Argelmach). These bosses are located in West Garrison, past the area where you need the Shadowforge Key to reach the Shadowforge Lock and open the gateway to the other side of Shadowforge City. Once done, return to Marshal Windsor with the two pieces of lost information.

For more information on strategy for this section of Blackrock Depths, please see our guide:

Blackrock Depths Shadowforge City Strategy Guide — WoW Classic

Jail Break!

  • Quest Starts: Marshal Windsor, Blackrock Depths jail, Windsor Cell
  • Quest Ends: Marshal Maxwell at Morgan’s Vigil in Burning Steppes, /way 84. 6 68.8
  • Zone(s): Blackrock Depths (dungeon), Burning Steppes

This is everyone’s favorite: an escort quest. Make sure everyone in your party is ready, since once this gets underway, you’ll be facing enemy ambushes as Marshal Maxwell gathers gear and releases his friends from jail. Stay close to Windsor throughout the quest. You can try again if the escort fails. Once successful, return to Marshal Maxwell at Morgan’s Vigil.

Stormwind Rendezvous

  • Quest Starts: Marshal Maxwell at Morgan’s Vigil in Burning Steppes, /way 84.6 68.8
  • Quest Requires: Squire Rowe, Stormwind City gates, /way 70.4 85.6
  • Quest Ends: Reginald Windsor, Stormwind City
  • Zone(s): Burning Steppes, Stormwind City

Marshal Maxwell sends you to speak with Squire Rowe at the gates of Stormwind City. Squire Rowe will summon Reginald Windsor.

This leads to a 10-minute escort from the Gates to the Keep. If another party is escorting Reginald Windsor at the time you want to summon him, Reginald Windsor will say «Windsor has been expecting you, unfortunately he is indisposed at the moment. » Simply wait and he will show up within 10 minutes. (This is a big improvement over pre-1.12 patch, when the quest would bug out if another party was escorting him).

The Great Masquerade

  • Quest Starts: Reginald Windsor, Stormwind City
  • Quest Ends: Highlord Bolvar Fordragon in Stormwind Keep, Stormwind City, /way 78 18.
  • Zone(s): Stormwind City

The Great Masquerade will require you to march alongside Windsor from the Gates to Stormwind Keep. Once there, Lady Katrana Prestor reveals herself as Onyxia, and summons elite dragonkin guards. You will need to defeat all the guards; the nearby NPCs will help tank. Once all the enemies have been vanquished, turn in the quest by talking to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon.

The Dragon’s Eye

  • Quest Starts: Highlord Bolvar Fordragon in Stormwind Keep, Stormwind City, /way 78 18.
  • Quest Ends: Haleh, Winterspring, /way 54.6 51.2
  • Zone(s): Stormwind City, Winterspring

Bolvar will give you the quest The Dragon’s Eye, asking you to find someone capable of restoring power to Fragment of the Dragon’s Eye. The being you seek is a dragonkin disguised as a humanoid named Haleh. She can be found on a mountainside in the southern parts of Winterspring, but to get to her, players will need to venture deep into the cave of Mazthoril. At the end of this cave, there will be runes on the floor; step on them to teleport you to Haleh.

If you can’t get a group to fight down (there are many, many elite dragons here, including two named ones), there are a couple other methods. Stealthing down works, as does «deathing» your way down. However, the easiest is using any speed mount or Rogue Sprint to run directly to her, avoiding the elite-stuffed cave entirely. Here is a video that shows the way to Haleh:

Drakefire Amulet

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Haleh, Winterspring, /way 54.6 51.2
  • Zone(s): Winterspring, Upper Blackrock Spire

Enter Upper Blackrock Spire to find and defeat the final boss, General Drakkisath to loot Blood of the Black Dragon Champion. Return to Haleh to complete the quest chain and receive your Drakefire Amulet. You will need to carry this anytime you wish to enter Onyxia’s Lair.

You must kill all three bosses even if you find the Important Blackrock Documents behind the first boss. Once completed, return to Warlord Goretooth.

What the Wind Carries

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Thrall, Valley of Wisdom, Orgrimmar, /way 32. 0 37.8
  • Zone(s): Orgrimmar, Upper Blackrock Spire

Listen to Thrall’s tale. When he’s done, turn this quest in.

The Champion of the Horde

  • Quest Starts: Thrall, Valley of Wisdom, Orgrimmar, /way 32.0 37.8
  • Quest Ends: Rokaro, Desolace, anywhere along road between Stonetalon Mountains and Feralas
  • Zone(s): Orgrimmar, Desolace

Thrall asks you to find Rexxar, the Champion of the Horde, in Desolace.

Rexxar spawns at the border of Desolace and Stonetalon Mountains and walks south along a predictable path until he despawns at the pool south of the western Twin Colossal. To find him quickly, ask people in the Desolace general chat to see if they have seen him. If that doesn’t work, the best way to find him without assistance is to run north from Feralas. This prevents you from missing him on a despawn/respawn cycle.

Be sure to look at the map, since he doesn’t always follow a road (cuts through Kodo Graveyard for the middle portion).

Rexxar’s Map

Mistress of Deception

  • Quest Starts: Rokaro, Desolace, anywhere along road between Stonetalon Mountains and Feralas
  • Quest Ends: Myranda the Hag, near Uther’s Tomb, Western Plaguelands, /way 50.8 77.8
  • Zone(s): Desolace, Western Plaguelands

Rexxar will give you Rokaro’s Letter and ask you to deliver it to Myranda the Hag in Western Plaguelands. She will teach you how to disguise yourself to fool the Black Dragonflight.

Oculus Illusions

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Myranda the Hag, near Uther’s Tomb, Western Plaguelands, /way 50.8 77.8
  • Zone(s): Western Plaguelands, Upper Blackrock Spire

Myranda the Hag asks for 20 Black Dragonspawn Eye to create your disguise. These eyes drop from various Black Dragonkin mobs in Upper Blackrock Spire.

Emberstrife

  • Quest Starts: Myranda the Hag, near Uther’s Tomb, Western Plaguelands, /way 50. 8 77.8
  • Quest Ends: Emberstrife, Emberstrife’s Cave, Dustwallow Marsh, /way 56.8 87.4
  • Zone(s): Western Plaguelands, Dustwallow Marsh

Myranda gives you Amulet of Draconic Subversion to disguise you as a member of the Black Dragonflight. Travel to Emberstrife’s Den in Dustwallow Marsh, a cave located in the southernmost part of the zone. Once inside the cave, use Amulet of Draconic Subversion to apply your disguise and speak to Emberstrife at the back of the cave.

The Test of Skulls (3 Quests)

Emberstrife gives you three quests to kill three dragons of three different Dragonflights: Chronalis (Bronze), Scryer (Blue), and Somnus (Green). These are all Elite dragons and require a group to bring down. It doesn’t matter which order you choose for these three quests, but you must complete all three to move on in the quest line.

There is actually a fourth Test of Skulls, but this one does not open up until these three have been completed and turned in.

All three quests in the Test of Skulls line can be completed in a raid group. Make sure to loot all the dragons to pick up their skulls!

The Test of Skulls, Chronalis

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Emberstrife, Emberstrife’s Cave, Dustwallow Marsh, /way 56.8 87.4
  • Zone(s): Dustwallow Marsh, Tanaris

Chronalis of the Bronze Dragonflight can be found in Tanaris outside of the Caverns of Time, /way 64.6 50.2.

The Test of Skulls, Scryer

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Emberstrife, Emberstrife’s Cave, Dustwallow Marsh, /way 56.8 87.4
  • Zone(s): Dustwallow Marsh, Winterspring

Scryer of the Blue Dragonflight can be found in the cave of Mazthoril, /way 53.2 56.0. The cave entrance is at /way 57 50. This requires clearing many Elite Dragonkin to get to him.

The Test of Skulls, Somnus

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Emberstrife, Emberstrife’s Cave, Dustwallow Marsh, /way 56. 8 87.4
  • Zone(s): Dustwallow Marsh, Swamp of Sorrows

Somnus of the Green Dragonflight wanders all over the south-eastern section of the map (link to map below). The best thing to do is to clear an area and wait for Somnus to patrol through. The spawn spot is reported to be around /way 80 70.

Nature Resist is very handy. He also has a very strong knockback that can throw you up into the air and a good distance away.

The Test of Skulls, Axtroz

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Emberstrife, Emberstrife’s Cave, Dustwallow Marsh, /way 56.8 87.4
  • Zone(s): Dustwallow Marsh, Wetlands

You can only pick up this quest after completing the previous three Tests of Skulls and turning them in to Emberstrife.

The final dragon-slaying quest targets Axtroz, champion of the Red Dragonflight, who patrols Grim Batol in the eastern Wetlands near /way 85 49. Axtros is immune to fire and requires 310 skill in Skinning if you wish to skin the corpse. Be sure to remember to loot the skull.

Ascension…

  • Quest Starts: Emberstrife, Emberstrife’s Cave, Dustwallow Marsh, /way 56.8 87.4
  • Quest Ends: Rokaro, Desolace, anywhere along road between Stonetalon Mountains and Feralas
  • Zone(s): Dustwallow Marsh, Desolace

Although Emberstrife tells you to return this to Blackrock Spire and present the Dull Drakefire Amulet to General Drakkisath, you know the Amulet of Draconic Submission will not work inside the Spire. Instead, you will need to find Rokaro in Desolace again. Use the same techniques you used in the previous quest to find him, The Champion of the Horde.

Blood of the Black Dragon Champion

  • Quest Starts/Ends: Rokaro, Desolace, anywhere along road between Stonetalon Mountains and Feralas
  • Zone(s): Desolace, Upper Blackrock Spire

Enter Upper Blackrock Spire to find and defeat the final boss, General Drakkisath to loot Blood of the Black Dragon Champion. Return to Rokaro to complete the quest chain and receive your Drakefire Amulet. You will need to carry this anytime you wish to enter Onyxia’s Lair.

Onyxia Horde Attunement Guide — WoW Classic

Last updated on Nov 15, 2019 at 18:54 by Blainie
1 comment

Onyxia’s Lair has one of the longest attunement quests in Classic, with two
separate questlines for the two factions. This page contains the Horde attunement
questline, but if you play Alliance, you can take a look at our
Alliance attunement guide for
Onyxia’s Lair.

In order to enter Onyxia’s Lair, players will need to have a Drakefire Amulet,
which is obtained through a faction-specific attunement quest chain.

1.

Quest Chain for Onyxia’s Lair Attunement (Horde)

The quest chain for the Horde is split into groups of quests and we have outlined
the full progression of quests below.

  1. Rend Blackhand quest group:
    • Warlord’s Command
    • Eitrigg’s Wisdom
    • For The Horde!
  2. Rexxar quest group:
    • What the Wind Carries
    • The Champion of the Horde
    • The Testament of Rexxar
    • Oculus Illusions
    • Emberstrife
  3. The Test of Skulls quest group:
    • The Test of Skulls, Scryer
    • The Test of Skulls, Somnus
    • The Test of Skulls, Chronalis
  4. General Drakkisath quest group:
    • The Test of Skulls, Axtroz
    • Ascension. ..
    • Blood of the Black Dragon Champion

To start the quest chain, you will need to be at least Level 55, but you must
be Level 56 to finish it.

1.1.

Rend Blackhand Quest Group

To start the attunement quest chain, you will need to head to Warlord Goretooth,
who can be found in one of the towers in Kargath, in the Badlands.

Go through his dialogue and, after finishing it, click on the
Warlord Goretooth’s Command in your inventory to start the first quest,
Warlord’s Command.

The quest tasks you with killing 3 bosses in Blackrock Spire:
Overlord Wyrmthalak, Highlord Omokk, and War Master Voone.
These 3 can be found in Lower Blackrock Spire and, after killing them, make sure
to check the surrounding area for any documents laying on the ground. The
Important Blackrock Documents can be found on the ground behind one of
them at random.

Once you have completed this task, return to Goretooth in the Badlands and
accept the second quest, Eitrigg’s Wisdom. This will send you to Orgrimmar,
where you need to speak to Eitrigg and then hand the quest in to
Thrall, who will give you the final quest of this section,
For The Horde!.

This final quest requires you to head to Upper Blackrock Spire and kill
Warchief Rend Blackhand and retrieve the Head of Rend Blackhand.
Return to Thrall with the head and you will have completed the first part of
the attunement.

1.2.

Rexxar Quest Group

The second section of the attunement starts where the previous section left
off, with Thrall. Speak to him and accept What the Wind Carries; the only
objective is to speak to Thrall and listen to what he has to say.

Once he is finished, he will give you The Champion of the Horde, which
will send you to the Desolace area to find Rexxar. Rexxar patrols the
main road of the zone, so simply follow it until you find him.

Once you do, you can hand in the quest and accept the next part, The Testament of Rexxar,
which tasks you with delivering Rexxar’s Testament to Myranda the Hag
in the Western Plaguelands. She can be found near Uther’s Tomb in Sorrow Hill.

Myranda will give you the next quest, Oculus Illusions, which requires
you to head to Upper Blackrock Spire and collect 20 Black Dragonspawn Eye
from the dragon mobs that inhabit the dungeon.

Head back to Myranda to receive the final quest in this section,
Emberstrife. You can find him to the south of The Wyrmbog in Dustwallow
Marsh, inside a cave called Emberstrife’s Den.

Use the Amulet of Draconic Subversion that was given to you by Myranda
and then speak to Emberstrife to hand in the quest.

1.3.

The Test of Skulls Quest Group

The three quests in this section can be completed in any order, with each one
requiring you to kill a dragon and loot their skulls.

  • The Test of Skulls, Chronalis — Chronalis is found at
the entrance of the Caverns of Time in Tanaris.
  • The Test of Skulls, Scryer — Scryer is found to the
    southwest of Everlook in Winterspring.
  • The Test of Skulls, Somnus — Somnus is found in the
Swamp of Sorrows, patrolling an area of the swamp to the southeast of the Sunken
    Temple entrance.

Note that all of these dragons are at least Level 60 elites, so you will likely
need a group to kill them.

1.4.

General Drakkisath Quest Group

The final section of the attunement questline ends with a chain leading to the
defeat of General Drakkisath.

You start the quest with Emberstrife, who gives you another Test
of Skulls quest, The Test of Skulls, Axtroz. Axtroz can be found
in the east of the Wetlands area, patrolling the path that leads to Grim Batol.

Kill him and collect his skull before returning to Emberstrife, who will give
you the next quest in the section, Ascension….

You will need to take the now depleted amulet to Rexxar, who you will
have to find in Desolace again. He will give you the final quest in the chain,
Blood of the Black Dragon Champion, which tasks you with killing
General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire.

Kill him and loot the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion, which you
can return to Rexxar for your Drakefire Amulet, which will now unlock
Onyxia’s Lair.

What does “pre-approved loan” mean?

Quite often, after applying for a loan, a bank specialist contacts a potential borrower, informing him that the loan is pre-approved. In some cases, a similar phrase may be contained in a letter sent by a credit institution to the applicant’s e-mail, or in an SMS message that comes to his phone. In such a situation, the question quite logically arises, what is the meaning of such a wording and, most importantly, is it a guarantee of obtaining a loan?

What does “Loan application pre-approved” mean?

Meaning of the “pre-approved” status

Is this a guarantee of a loan?

What can influence the final decision?

What does “Loan application pre-approved” mean?

Preliminary approval of a loan application only means that it has been received by the bank and recognized as valid. Usually the client is informed about this in the following cases:

  • when making an online application using the Internet. In such a situation, quite often the next step is a personal visit to the bank by a potential borrower;
  • if the client wishes to receive a secured loan. This status of the application allows you to proceed to the registration of collateral for the loan;
  • if necessary, provide an additional package of documents.

Pre-approved status

Pre-approval of a loan application indicates that it is being submitted for further review. It is important to understand that banks today carefully check the information provided by the applicant, and also collect additional information about him, primarily related to the client’s credit history. Therefore, one should not overestimate the importance of the bank’s decision to assign pending status to an incoming application.

Is this a loan guarantee?

Given the above, it becomes clear that in the vast majority of cases, the preliminary approval of the application is not a guarantee of a positive decision to grant a loan. Moreover, in fact, this only means the beginning of a serious verification of the borrower and the information provided by him. Naturally, the further development of events, namely, whether the loan is approved or the financial transaction is refused, directly depends on the results of the audit.

However, some banks practice sending pre-approval messages to their regular customers. In this case, the amount in rubles is indicated, which will be guaranteed if the borrower submits an application. In such a situation, the status “Preliminarily approved” actually means a positive decision on the part of the bank.

What can influence the final decision?

The reasons why a bank ultimately refuses a potential borrower, despite the preliminary approval of his application, can be very diverse. This happens most often in the following situations:

  • Bad credit history. Today, a fairly large number of Russians have a problematic history of relationships with various financial structures. This can significantly complicate obtaining new loans, especially if there are outstanding current financial obligations;
  • Presence of errors or inaccuracies in the information provided to the bank. In this case, as a rule, it does not matter whether they were committed intentionally or accidentally;
  • Identification of non-compliance of documents received by the bank on collateral or surety, the client’s income level and place of employment, etc., with the requirements established by the bank for potential borrowers;
  • Failure to provide additional requested documents by the client.

Summing up, we can say that the status of «Loan pre-approved» means the beginning of the bank’s verification of the borrower. This does not guarantee a final positive decision, however, it indicates that the procedure for obtaining a loan is ongoing.
