3rd Person Camera | Lane-Pushing Games
Avengard
Players design their own character as a persistent avatar which they may bring into battle. It can have a custom size, shape, clothing, and facial features to suit the player’s preferences.
The avatar’s choice of weapons and armour will affect its base stats, and which abilities it may access from the large pool available. The mastery of the game is intended to be in its «RPG-style» character creation. During a match, players can level up the skills they chose as a form of temporary progression.
There are expected to be three lanes and two jungles, with a neutral area near the center of each lane which may be captured.
REVN
A third person shooter game which takes place in a large urban 3D battlefield with bridges, ramps, and walls.
There are no character classes. Players can equip themselves with a loadout which they can upgrade and expand during a match. This can include various weapons (pistols, rifles, etc.), passive abilities, and activated items (orbital strikes, jetpacks).
Troops and jungle creeps are armed with guns. Clearing a jungle camp and hacking its terminal will increase a team’s resource income until the camp respawns. Lane spawn is infrequent, being every 60 seconds instead of the usual 30.
Holo Arena Death League
A third person shooter game with lanes and a sci-fi theme. It includes six playable classes with options to customise weapons and exoskeletons.
Overprime
The project began as a fan-made revival of Paragon, which focused on recreating the experience of the ‘Legacy’ map. It was made available for the public to enjoy from very early stages.
In early 2020, the team received the backing of South Korean publisher Netmarble. The game is now being worked on with an expanded team. and is planned to release in Early Access on its first platform in Winter 2021.
The game will feature a new card system, PvE mode, and new maps.
Fault: Elder Orb
A Paragon successor project. Players can earn a special resource called ‘favour’ by reaching certain milestones with their last-hits, kills, and participation in objectives. Over time, favour can be allocated to ‘factions’ to improve the strength of certain items.
Switchblade
Players control a weaponized vehicle which can be driven around in a 3D cyber-sports themed environment. A dropship can be called in to swap to their secondary vehicle at any time during combat. Several of the vehicles (heroes) place balloons as part of their abilities!
The game has been announced for closure as of June 2020, and has been removed from Steam. The game is still available on PS4 through June 2021.
Project CORE
A 3D game which was originally planned to be based on Paragon and its assets.
The team later decided to take the project in a fresh direction, which will include original IP and possibly some mixing of genres.
Revelation: Legends of Nuanor
Lane-pushing game offered within the MMO «Revelation Online». It does not use the player’s usual MMO character or equipment; players choose from a selection of NPC heroes (like a regular lane-pushing game). It is possible that some combat features of Revelation, such as fighting in the air, will make an appearance.
It appears it will have a similar style of gameplay to League of Legends / SMITE.
Predecessor
Aims to capture the feeling of Paragon, while improving on a number of core mechanics in the game.
It has been in alpha testing as of March 2019, with a second wave of tests from July 2020.
Omeda Studios raised a $2.2M funding round in March 2021, and have taken on Steve Superville (former Game Director of Paragon) as an advisor.
Ethereal: Clash of Souls
3D game where heroes are divided into around 8 classes, with each class having unique mobility features such as wall-running, high-jumping, or flying! The lanes are at different vertical heights, and it is possible to «jump» down from one lane to another. The game will make fullest use of the Z-axis.

Paragon Returns as Predecessor: A Tactical, 3rd Person MOBA

Leave a Comment on Paragon Returns as Predecessor: A Tactical, 3rd Person MOBA
MOBA fans who were tired of the toxic, repetitive gameplay of long-standing titles might remember Paragon, the 3rd person, skill-shot, MOBA with better-looking graphics than any other on the market. Fans lost hope for it to return when it was shut down in 2018, but now Omeda Studios has bought the rights to Paragon and has renamed it Predecessor, and is already making progress in returning the title to its full glory.
Although Predecessor very much resembles Paragon, there are a lot of changes and removals that may upset returning fans. The first and most obvious is the severe lack of heroes. When Paragon was shut down in early 2018, it left a roster of 37 heroes, whereas Predecessor picks up only 20 of the original roster. According to Omeda’s development roadmap, they plan on returning “old favourites” but have also already introduced a new hero, “the Huntress.” While some fans are annoyed with having to wait behind original characters to play their mains from 2018, others are excited to see what direction Omeda Studios takes to make Predecessor stand out.
Another more obvious change Predecessor makes is the shape and size of the map. Not only do they include a tutorial map consisting of one lane (still only available as a tutorial map, but leaves hopes of a future 3v3 game mode) but the three-lane map familiar to all MOBA players takes on a larger jungle with more monsters and buffs to pick up. Along with the larger jungle is an increase in the tiered level design, with rising ledges only accessible to some heroes, making escapes and chases more varied. This change makes Predecessor unique in terms of the popular three-lane system and could help them dominate the genre.
In their effort to make Paragon look more and more like a traditional MOBA, Paragon’s old card system is now replaced with a store, containing upgradeable relics and items focused on increasing certain hero stats. This is probably one of Predecessor’s biggest changes in terms of gameplay, but it may do more harm than good as it becomes increasingly comparable to more popular, free MOBAs like SMITE and League of Legends. While the road map contains numerous goals to increase performance and flesh out the roster, it looks like the core mechanics are here to stay.
