Destroy All Humans getting two special editions

Pre-orders are available for two special edition versions of Destroy All Humans, one of which comes with a fancy Crypto backpack!

Minecraft’s Super Duper graphics pack has been cancelled two years after announcement as the fancy new look proved «too technically demanding to implement as planned. «

Microsoft showed off the Super Duper graphics pack during their E3 2017 briefing, promising a snazzy update for the blocky builder’s shaders and other graphical improvements.

However while developing the patch, the team found that when you make things prettier with post-processing effects it tends to tank the framerate, which makes the already infamously processor-taxing game a little less fun to play.

«We realise this is disappointing to some of you – there was a lot of enthusiasm for Super Duper from inside and outside the studio – but unfortunately, we aren’t happy with how the pack performed across devices,» the Mojang team said in an update today.

«For this reason, we’re stopping development on the pack, and looking into other ways for you to experience Minecraft with a new look. Minecraft is available on a wide range of platforms, and we’re constantly trying to make the most of the technical architecture of each one. We’ll be able to share more on that subject very soon.»

Minecraft has had a number of graphics mods in its decade-plus existence on PC, and all of them have almost melted our laptop CPUs at some point, so we understand where the team are coming from here.

It’s not yet clear what Microsoft and Mojang are working on now the Minecraft Super Duper graphics pack is cancelled, but it sounds like there could be a performance update for all platforms coming soon.

Minecraft Super Duper Graphics Pack Canceled

By
Rory Young

Microsoft and Mojang cancel plans for the Super Duper Graphics Pack previously announced at E3 2017, due to performance issue across devices.

Minecraft‘s highly anticipated Super Duper Graphics Pack has been canceled. Mojang confirmed Monday morning that development of the visual upgrade DLC for Minecraft has been ended. The Super Duper pack «proved too technically demanding to implement as planned,» resulting in Mojang canceling development rather than trying to force the issue. The Super Duper Graphics Pack was originally announced for release in fall 2017.

Mojang would go on to explain that the decision comes despite a lot of enthusiasm for the Super Duper pack at the studio. With the pack now two years late from the originally announced release date, Mojang clearly put a lot of effort into trying to make it happen. Sometimes there’s just nothing that can be done.

«We aren’t happy with how the pack performed across devices» is the last word on the issue, implying that hardware limitations are the root cause of the problem. Mojang had previously explained after a release delay that the «graphics part of our engine was … not built for this.» The pack was said to work well on high-level PCs and Xbox One X, but it didn’t work right on other platforms.

The Super Duper Graphics Pack was announced in 2017 as an optional visual upgrade for the console and Windows 10  version of Minecraft. It was planned to offer significantly enhanced shadows and lighting, as well as new textures for mobs and villagers. The initial announcement trailer showed off just how impressive the Super Duper Graphics Pack would be, featuring directional lighting being filtered through fog and onto water in an impressive fashion. It was so impressive that many at the time couldn’t imagine it working on console hardware. Unfortunately, those worries were correct.

While today’s news from Mojang carries a somber tone, there is a hopeful note as well. Mojang says that while the Super Duper pack is canceled, the team is looking into other ways for players to experience Minecraft with a «new look.» The Mojang team also drops this very interesting teaser:

«Minecraft is available on a wide range of platforms, and we’re constantly trying to make the most of the technical architecture of each one. We’ll be able to share more on that subject very soon.»

Upgrading the architecture in Minecraft would be a surprising and hugely significant step for the game. It’s the kind of thing you’d expect for a sequel. That’s not to say that Mojang is hinting at a next-gen Minecraft 2 or anything like that. When you have a game as wildly successful as Minecraft, splitting the support base with a sequel isn’t always the most optimal solution. However, Microsoft could absolutely release an updated version of Minecraft specifically for PC, Project Scarlett, and even Xbox One X that still works with older versions of the game.

Perhaps Minecraft fans should expect further news at an upcoming event or convention. Three events, in particular, stand out: Gamescom 2019 starts August 20, Minecon 2019 starts September 28, and X019 will be in November.

Minecraft is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, mobile devices, and other platforms.

Minecraft will be left without «Super Duper Graphics»

Microsoft has announced that the Super Duper Graphics Pack update for Minecraft, announced in 2017, has been cancelled. The update promised to significantly improve the game’s graphics, including lighting. nine0003

The reason for the cancellation was that Minecraft with «Super Duper Graphics» did not work well on all devices where the game is available. Minecraft is available on all current and not so consoles, as well as on mobile devices.

“Some of you may remember the announcement of the Super Duper Graphics update at E3 2017. It was an ambitious initiative to give Minecraft a new look. Unfortunately, the update turned out to be very demanding from a technical point of view, and we were not able to implement it as planned. We understand this will be disappointing for some of you, but unfortunately we are not happy with how the game works across all devices with the update. Therefore, we are stopping the development of the update, «- said the developers of Minecraft

Last year was poor for major releases, but the indie scene worked like clockwork. We decided to highlight solid products from small studios and publishers that we missed. A metroidvania about Taiwan and an abandoned planet, a sim of a card gamer set in medieval France, a turn-based role-playing game in the style of early Final Fantasy, a roguelike with Tetris elements — the choice is wide. nine0003

Russia, like the CIS countries, has gone through one of the most controversial eras — the 90s. Time of great opportunities and terrible human terror. The unfolding world events have prompted the giants of the entertainment industry to plunge us into an era of chaos and total prohibition. Microsoft will make «super-duper graphics» in Minecraft and arrange a global cross-platform

Minecraft is one of the main values of the gaming division of Microsoft at the moment, so E3 2017 simply could not do without cubic men. Fortunately, the news this time is really entertaining and to some extent revolutionary.

This summer Microsoft and Mojang will release a Better Together update. It will enable cross-platform multiplayer on a wide variety of devices: Windows 10, Xbox One, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch and VR. Therefore, users of these platforms will be able to play together. In addition, the purchased add-ons will go with you to any of the listed devices. So, for example, if you purchase the Greek Mythology Bundle on Nintendo Switch, you can use it on Windows 10, mobile phones, and Xbox One at no additional cost. nine0061

Interestingly, Minecraft lives quite successfully on the PlayStation 4, but there will be no cross-platform.

Better Together will also have a server browser and… improved graphics! Minecraft shines in 4K resolution with HDR, improved lighting, shadows and water effects.

Additionally, Microsoft will release a DLC for Windows 10 and Xbox One called the Super Duper Graphics Pack. It will add dynamic shadows, lighting that breaks through fog, movement in leaves and grass, new textures for mobs and settlers, directional lighting, and more. Moreover, the Super Duper Graphics Pack will perform especially well on powerful PCs and the Xbox One X console.0061

In the news on the official website of Microsoft does not directly indicate this, but the «super-duper graphics» from the add-on seem to have to be bought for separate money. Although the company emphasizes: visual changes can always be turned off and Minecraft returned to its true face.
