Handlung und Hintergrund
Tim Walker (Jack Wolfe) kann sein Glück kaum fassen, als er sein Gesangsstudium im österreichischen Mozart-Internat beginnen kann. Vor Ort muss sich der 17-Jährige zunächst einmal gegen die starke Konkurrenz unter den Mitschüler*innen behaupten.
Eines Nachts entdeckt er jedoch ein geheimes Portal in den Gemäuern, das ihn direkt in die magische Welt von Mozarts Zauberflöte befördert. Darin verkörpert Tim nun Prinz Tamino, der Prinzessin Pamina (Asha Banks) aus den Fängen des Fürsten Sarastro (Morris Robinson) befreien muss. Begleitet wird Tamino von Vogelfänger Papageno (Iwan Rheon). Die drei Damen (Jeanne Goursand, Jasmin Shakeri und Larissa Sirah Herden) geben dem Burschen die titelgebende Zauberflöte zur Hilfe mit.

Die knapp dreistündige Oper von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart gehört zu den bekanntesten und am häufigsten inszenierten Opern auf der ganzen Welt. Für den Fantasyfilm, der sich eng am Stück orientiert und zugleich eine eigene Geschichte drumherum webt, wurde ein Staraufgebot engagiert.
Die Hauptrolle übernimmt Shootingstar Jack Wolfe („The Witcher“), Iwan Rheon („Game of Thrones“) verkörpert Vogelfänger Papageno, die schöne Pamina wird von Asha Banks dargestellt und Tenor Morris Robinson wird zu Fürst Sarastro. Ebenso mit von der Partie: F. Murray Abraham, der bereits in der Rockoper „Amadeus“ von Milos Forman mitspielte.

Die Dreharbeiten fanden unter anderen in den Bavaria Studios in der Nähe von München, in Salzburg, London und auf den Kanarischen Inseln statt. Für die Regie ist Florian Sigl verantwortlich, der Soundtrack erscheint beim Klassiklabel der Deutschen Grammophon.
