A Place to Call Home

Judgement is an activity introduced in the DLC From the Ashes. Henry, as Bailiff, needs to pass judgement on the happenings in Pribyslavitz, which are often brought to his attention by Marius. There is a total of 14 judgements to do.

You will get the opportunity to make a judgement every day, and each decision will affect your reputation, the number of citizens at Pribyslavitz, and the total tax income. It’s unknown whether these judgements have any effect on the larger game.

The judgement is random every day, reloading a save right before it starts might give you another one.

Synopsis

Master Armorer Ota Rabstein refuses to sell his forge to the Sasau blacksmith, Zach. Zach’s so furious that he decides to humiliate Ota in front of the whole town. If he can’t have Ota’s forge, he’ll at least take his customers.

Objectives

  • Challenge Master Armourer Ota to a bludgeon duel.
    • Arrange a duel with the Bailiff
      • Go and get your reward
  • Steal the Bailiff’s armour from Ota’s workshop
    • Go and get your reward for stealing the armour

Walkthrough

You find yourself in the middle of a feud, with Zach on one side and Master Ota on the other. Zach is certain that his son, Vitus, has a bright future as a smith, and wanted to set him up with his own shop in Sasau. Unfortunately, Ota refused to sell, not wanting his established and respected armory going to a young man barely out of his apprenticeship.

Henry prepares to duel

Since then, the insulted Zach has been trying to discredit Ota, and he wants Henry, wearing armour made by Vitus, to fight a duel in order to show the superior quality of his work. Go and speak to Ota and explain the proposal. Ota is intrigued by the plan, but has a counter-offer — if Henry were to lose the fight, then Ota would not only pay whether Zach has promised, but he’ll gladly custom make him a new cuirass.

Whatever you decide, go and see the Bailiff, who is clearly fed up with Zach’s complaints about Ota, and more than happy to help you arrange a duel. Apparently, the feud between the two has been going on for awhile, and the whole town is sick of it.

Master Ota reveals he is his own champion

The Bailiff will set up a makeshift ring in the town square, and the two champions will face off against each other — with Henry acting as Zach’s champion, and Master Ota being represented by . .. Master Ota (turns out he prefers to fight his own battles, literally). The fight is fairly simple — you each get a bludgeon, and you use it to, well, bludgeon each other.

If you lose, Zach will be so furious that he’ll demand 210 before he’ll do business with you again, and he’ll refuse to go to Pribyslavitz. Ota will give you 450 and Armourer Ota’s cuirass for throwing the fight, and may agree to become your master blacksmith.

However, if you win, it is Ota who refuses to move to Pribyslavitz, and Zach will pay you 450 and give you Vitus’ cuirass.

Stealing the armour

Alternatively, sneak into the Armourer’s and go upstairs to the bedroom. There you will find a ‘Hard’ locked chest that contains Blacksmith Ota’s armour. Grab it, and take it to Zach for your reward. Somehow though, Ota will know that you took it.

Curiously, Vitus’ cuirass is better and more valuable than Ota’s cuirass (although Ota’s is a bit more ostentatious) — so maybe Zach was right all along about his son’s talent.

Notes

  • Depending on who you side with, the other blacksmith will refuse to move to Pribyslavitz in From the Ashes.
  • As of the latest patch, this quest may be obtained during OR after completion of All that Glisters.

Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov. Russia rose from the ashes of turmoil

Four centuries ago, the Russian state, after a long period of turmoil, foreign occupation and wars, found a sovereign from the Romanov family

As in our days, in the seventeenth century, Moscow was actively offered a «progressive Western path.» At first — in the form of Polish pretenders to the throne, eager for Orthodox blood and wealth of the eastern lands. Then — the Polish-Lithuanian legions chained in armor. Then — various impostors and adventurers, arrogant gentry and Catholic chaplains with pale masks of savage executors.

After the whole gang had fully tasted the power of Russian weapons, they tried not by force, but by flattery and diplomacy.

Again, the Polish prince, the Swedish prince and even the whole English king claimed the throne of the Orthodox kingdom. But it worked out … In those decisive years for Russia, the country did not cave in under «Western values» and their bearers.

Through thorns to the throne

The election to the Romanov kingdom was God’s Providence, obvious in its essence, sacredness, symbolism, understandable in those days both to a boyar experienced in court affairs and to an ingenuous commoner. The family of the future king went through slander, disgrace, exile, forced monastic vows. The uncle of the future sovereign, the real hero Mikhail Nikitich, completely accepted a slow and martyr’s death. And in these terrible persecutions, the spirit of the new king, a man of great faith, Christian humility and meekness, was forged.

Is it possible to call it an accident that the father of the future tsar, Fyodor Nikitich, who never thought about pastoral service and tonsure, after the forcible accomplishment of this by order of Boris Godunov (he was afraid of the Romanovs, as likely contenders for the throne, since they were descendants of Rurikovich and close relatives of the righteous sovereign Fyodor Ioannovich), separated from his wife and children, became precisely the washing of God, the spiritual leader of the Russian people, and then the primate of the Russian Church — Patriarch Filaret?

It is no coincidence that the Poles, who were so thirsty for the Russian throne, Russian slaves and the inclusion of Russian lands in the papal ecumene, held him hostage in captivity until the conclusion of peace with Moscow.

And the same Poles, proceeding from the same motives, sent a small «sabotage detachment» to kill his son, the candidate for the Russian throne, Mikhail Fedorovich, elected by the Zemsky Sobor.

As we all know from the school course of history, a simple Russian man, Ivan Susanin, did not allow the Gentiles to commit villainy for the future king, for the restoration of the Russian kingdom. It is no coincidence that the atheists who destroyed the empire tried to change the essence of this man’s feat by demolishing the monument to the first Russian sovereign he saved and the savior himself in Kostroma, trying to present the hero as a kind of partisan, a fighter against regular invaders. In fact, centuries later, the adherents of the red idea acted for Russia «in the role» of the same Poles.

Sovereign cross

But the Lord protected the future anointed one. History has preserved the picture of the calling of the first Romanov to the kingdom.

Two human rivers with banners and prayers, and most importantly — with the miraculous Vladimir and Fedorovsky images of the Mother of God, went towards the Ipatiev Monastery in Kostroma. One — the embassy from Moscow, the second — Kostroma residents headed by the clergy.

Mikhail Fedorovich and his mother, nun Martha, went out to meet the Russian people, bowed to the shrines and accepted their destiny. But is it possible to compare this simple and at the same time sacred action with the magnificent ceremonies of enthronement of all kinds of Western and Eastern rulers? But we remember that while Herod was throwing feasts, eating, overeating from golden dishes, the true King was born in an ordinary manger, and then, in His Glory, rode into Jerusalem on a small donkey …

Ipatiev Monastery. Photo: Dmitry Shultsev/TASS

And how the sixteen-year-old boy and his mother doubted! How they did not want to take on this heavy crown of sovereignty! Everything passed before their eyes: disastrous court intrigues, and exile, and captivity, and cruel executions, and leapfrog on the throne, poisoning, wars.

No, Monomakh’s cap was truly not light, especially in the seventeenth century! But Christ said during a prayer in Gethsemane: «My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, however, let it be not as I want, but as you want» … And they acted as it was necessary to do, as it was predestined over for them, and for Russia.

After that, the Troubles receded.

No, of course, the reign of Mikhail Fedorovich was not easy. There were also terrible things typical of that time, where the sovereign became simply a hostage, as it is customary to say now of the «historical context» in which he lived. So, a terrible death, as a «thief», was executed by a child — the three-year-old son of the adventurer False Dmitry II and the Pole Marina Mnishek, behind whom stood the Cossack army of Ivan Zarutsky, captured and impaled. Thus, with cruelty, Rus’ uprooted the fruits of turmoil, including shedding innocent blood — it was only enough to desire that the name of the unfortunate baby would be raised to the shield by new restless «oppositionists» thirsting for power and bloody redistribution.

Who knows, perhaps the first Romanov tsar remembered this difficult episode at the beginning of his reign all his life. It is no coincidence, according to eyewitnesses, that he died suffering from dropsy and melancholy…

Rus’ revived by Romanov

But Russia’s reign of Mikhail Fedorovich brought not only the long-awaited cessation of civil strife and deliverance from the threat of foreign and heterodox oppression.

Under the first sovereign Romanov, peace treaties were concluded with Poland and Sweden on conditions that were not entirely favorable for Russia. But for the country, where until recently cities were burning and blood was flowing profusely, this was a serious diplomatic victory: Western neighbors refused to claim it as such.

Mikhail Fedorovich began organizing a regular army and, as they say now, seriously took up its rearmament. Under him, the first iron-making, weapons and iron-smelting plants in the state were founded near Tula, which guarded the borders of the state, the Great Zasechnaya Line, as well as the fortresses of the Belgorod Line and the Simbirsk Line.

At the same time, the possessions of the Russian state expanded to the Pacific Ocean.

The tsar also did a lot to restore Moscow, destroyed and devastated by foreign invaders and their henchmen. A striking clock appeared in the capital’s Kremlin. The Znamensky Monastery was founded, the Filaret Belfry, the Terem Palace were built, mechanisms for supplying water to the city were installed in the Sviblova (Vodovzvodnaya) tower.

By the way, one more interesting fact — it was under Mikhail Fedorovich that garden roses were brought to Russia.

The monarch was also worried about the welfare of the people. During his reign, workers were supposed to pay three kopecks a day, while boots cost 30 kopecks, a sheepskin coat — 50 kopecks, and a cow — 2 rubles. The sovereign also established a special «order» for receiving and analyzing people’s complaints «on the insults of strong people.»

The international position of Russia, which has risen from the ashes, has strengthened, the country has restored its prestige. Diplomatic ties were established with Austria, Holland, the Ottoman Empire and Persia. The lord of the latter, Shah Abbas the First, as a sign of respect for the Russian sovereign, sent him a part of the Lord’s Robe that he kept as a gift. Upon the arrival of the shrine, the father of the tsar, Patriarch Filaret, established a weekly fast for the Orthodox and ordered them to wear it for the sick. In just a few months of finding a miraculous gift on Russian soil, 67 people were healed thanks to this.

In Russian history, heavenly miracles always go hand in hand with earthly reality. So the talent of Russia by Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov became such a miracle.

Now our country is also going through difficult times, and the current customs, at times, are no softer than some of the traditions of the distant seventeenth century. But I want to believe that the miracles of the Lord over the Russian land will not end on us. And through the prayers and deeds of the righteous and faithful, Russia will be worthy of both the mercies of the Lord and the royal sovereign hand over itself.

Macedonia without Macedonian — 16 not a single great battle took place and not a single large city was captured, except for Farms. The fighting on both sides was reduced to predatory raids, and Philip V won because he had more troops and tenacity to continue raids in various places. None of the parties was going to «die to death», and therefore in the winter of 218-219year the idea was born to make peace — the king offered the Aetolians a truce for a month, and they agreed.

Allied war 220-217 (clickable)

But peace was never concluded. Different historians have «many different» explanations for this, and most likely they are all true, because they do not cancel each other. Firstly, the strategist was replaced in the Aetolian Union — he became a prominent «hawk» Aget , who kindled in the hearts of his compatriots a «sacred fire» from the «ashes of the Farms», forcing it to knock on their chests. Secondly, hired peltasts rebelled in Corinth, who were underpaid (in their opinion) money, and Philip had to personally go there and put things in order. Thirdly, certain “unrests” of the Macedonian nobility were either connected with the rebellion, or “coincided by themselves”, which either turned into a conspiracy, or were someone (either Arat, or a new friend of the king, an Illyrian Demetrius Farsky ) are presented as a conspiracy, which the king severely suppressed. In general, a month has passed, and the Aetolians decided that they were not ready to put up yet.

Therefore, in the spring of 217, hostilities continued — Philip with an army went to Central Greece and captured the city of Thebes Phthiotia, allied to the Aetolians, burning and plundering it, as usual. But then a fateful event happened — secret messengers brought him the news that in the barbarian lands of Italica, an army of snotty-bellied Roman savages led by the leader of acne, the so-called «consulus» Gaius Flaminius was exterminated at Lake Trasimene by some newcomers from the north, mostly Iberians and Gauls, posing as the army of the Carthaginian Republic, under the leadership of either Annibas , or Hannibaal , or even Adnibaal . It appeared that the Roman gang under the pseudonym «republic» would soon receive the last kirdyk.

Annibas, aka Hannibaal, aka Adnibaal…

In principle, where is Rome, and where is Macedonia — both Philip V and Aratus were monopenisual to the barbarian rushes over the hills of the lands in the assholes of the world. But there were two significant «buts». First, during 1st and 2nd Illyrian Wars the Romans defeated the Kingdom of Ardia Illyrians and put their protege Skerdilaid at the head of it. Something aggressively barbaric again hung over Macedonia from the west. Worst of all was the fact (it is the second «but») that the previous king of Ardiaea, who fled from the Romans to the court of Philip V, was Demetrius Farsky — «the new great friend of the Macedonian elephant.» And with all his might, he began to blow into the tsar’s ears that “what the hell is it with these bastards in their stinking bastard petty affairs, we must run to where the big Mediterranean policy is being done — to Illyria!”.

Philip, of course, although he demonstrated by the «discovery of the conspiracy» the turn from the pragmatic internal policy of the Antigonids to the self-willed blood-sucking of Alexander MakedonskOV, he had not yet completely killed the brain with paranoia and swelling of the CSF, in order to simply succumb to the persuasion of some fugitive pirate (the Illyrians lived, which angered the Romans). But it also turned out that Skerdilaid had helped him plunder the Aetolian shores the previous year, but in the end decided that he had not been paid his share of the booty, and went over to the side of the Aetolians.

The new sharp and sudden enemy of Rome Philippus V…

Therefore, Philip decided to «leave the annoying rattles in order to get new ones» and when representatives of the Jewish-Masonic «Greek business circles» who suffered from the «general Hellenic lack of profit» «from Rhodes and Chios with a proposal to mediate in peace negotiations and end this, forgive Zeus, Allied war nafig, graciously agreed. The peace congress was convened in the Aetolian port of Nafpaktos, where the parties recorded the fact — status quo suspiciously resembles status quo ante bellum , so that the peace will be concluded under conditions that suit each side «no one gets anything». The Achaeans were strengthened by the entry into the alliance of Messenia, Philip bent down the enemies of internal and external, showing who was the boss in Hellas, and the Aetolians were preserved as an alliance in their mountains and continued to cherish plans for the final defense of freedom and independence throughout Hellas.
