A mixed campaign with a great multiplayer

Halo 5: Guardians is the latest instalment in the Halo franchise and a direct sequel to Halo 4. It sees Master Chief go rogue for reasons I won’t spoil here and then get hunted by Spartan Locke, sent by the UNSC. Coming out three years after Halo 4 and a great marketing campaign, promising a rivalry/battle between Chief and Locke and hinting at an antagonistic Chief, does Halo 5 deliver?

First off, I have to put it out there that I am a huge fan of the Halo series and that is for its campaigns more so than the multiplayer. I will always complete the story before moving onto the multiplayer because I am invested in the character of the Master Chief and always excited to see where his character will go or how he will develop emotionally, especially after a rather sad ending to Halo 4.I actually really like Halo 4 contrary to other people’s opinions because although the multiplayer had clear, undeniable issues, the campaign was amazing, technically and story-wise.It was almost like a character study of Chief and Cortana as it put them at the forefront so I was hoping for Halo 5 to continue this in its story.

Unfortunately, whilst Halo 5’s campaign is beautiful, graphically at a constant 60fps, and has better level design and is probably more fun than Halo 4, its story is a real weakness which dampens an otherwise perfect Halo game. You may be wondering why this is ‘unfortunate’ since it still sounds pretty great, but if you were hoping for a great story and further development for the Master Chief, you may be disappointed.

The cutscenes, while stunning and impressive to behold, are too short and feel unfinished as they suddenly fade to black, and sometimes it felt like some cutscenes were removed. For example, you never see Locke’s team get assigned to tracking down the Master Chief and it is just thrust upon you all-of-a-sudden. The game tries to add a new element which just feels out of place in a Halo game as you go up to people and press ‘x’ to talk as if it’s an RPG game like Skyrim. The problem is this element never goes anywhere and just feels like they were too lazy to make it a cutscene.

The story also feels rushed and is frustrating in the way that it has so much more potential that it never fulfills, but I’m not going to talk about what it should’ve been, I’ll talk about what’s there and the problems with it. Firstly, Chief’s reasons for going rogue just don’t feel near sufficient or important enough to truly get invested in his story and the way he goes rogue is just so anti-climactic and offhandedly done. Moreover, you only play as Chief for three missions out of the 15 missions in the campaign so obviously there’s not much time there for proper development of his character.

The rest of the story is with the dutiful, but dull Spartan Locke who, with his team, hunts down the Chief. It starts out that way, but I won’t spoil it so all I’ll say is the ads and the marketing campaign lied to you. Hell, even the front cover lies to you as this game is not really Chief vs. Locke. Team Osiris, while more interesting than Blue Team in this game, are never fleshed out and have no emotional ties to their mission to hunt down the Chief as they see it as «just another target» as Lock puts it so how are we supposed to care whether they find the Chief or not and root for them. I won’t spoil any returning characters in case you don’t follow the trailers and advertisements, but it was good to see them, albeit briefly.

However, if you don’t care for the Halo story and don’t bother with cutscenes there is still lots of fun to be had in the gameplay. The level design is amazing with beautiful scenery and HD graphics, especially on the plant Sanghelios which features great towering stone- statues of Elites that are nothing if not impressive. You also fight a Kraken…enough said. There is not a dull mission and there are a lot of great standout moments in the gameplay which you just have to stop to take in. Although a boss fight with a certain character is repeated quite a bit it doesn’t detract much from the fun of it. Also, your teammates do revive you so if you die it’s not a definite respawn unless your teammates are all dead and they fail trying to get to yo, which can be frustrating.

I haven’t got much to say about the multiplayer, but I had lots of fun on it and it is much better and more balanced than Halo 4, though I’ve been playing Arena more than Warzone because I just prefer it, but that’s just my opinion. I’ve heard Halo fans who’ve been playing since 2004 when Halo 2 came out and are saying this is the best Halo multiplayer since then, which must be a good thing.

In conclusion, if you like Halo, this is a must-buy because although the campaign has a weak story, it has some standout moments such as an awesome hand to hand fight between Chief and Locke, but there is also lots of fun and memories to be made in the gameplay. Also, the multiplayer is great which just shows Halo is back baby! If you are not a Halo fan, you will not care about the weak story and you will find lots of enjoyment in the gameplay as well as its impressive graphics and 60fps fluidity so I’d say this is definitely a game worth checking out.

Oh, and the soundtrack is amazing!

    Halo: Nightfall
    (2014)

In May 2020, Paramount+ (still known as CBS All Access back then) announced the order for a series centered on the Captain Pike, Number One, and Spock characters introduced on Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, and the fan base went Wild.

Anson Mount brought the legendary Pike to life as the perfect precursor to the Kirk era while Rebecca Romijn epitomized the efficiency and effectiveness of the ultimate second-in-command, Number One.

Ethan Peck had the hardest role to take on as Spock, a figure long-beloved and revered from Leonard Nimoy’s first portrayal of the Vulcan-Human defender of all things logical and fascinating. Peck’s turn in the pointy ears was a resounding success.

With the three of them at the helm of the iconic Enterprise, anticipation for a return to episodic exploratory missions has been a slow-burning roar ever since.

But three crew do not a Star Trek show makes.

Today, Paramount+ announced the addition of five,

Set in the very near future where scientists have discovered a method of matching people with their perfect romantic fit using DNA, eight-part Netflix Original The One is technically a sci-fi drama. Really though, it’s a crime thriller revolving around the murky circumstances in which the cash cow company behind the matching service was created. Written by Misfits and Crazyhead creator Howard Overman, The One is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by John Marrs. It’s a cat-and-mouse game between wealthy, driven CEO Rebecca (Hannah Ware) and police detective Kate (Zoë Tapper).

While you’re solving the show’s mysteries, we’ve taken the liberty of solving that nagging background question of where you might have seen its cast on screen before…

If you cast your mind back to 2013, you may recall that Microsoft announced it was teaming up with Steven Spielberg to develop a TV series based around the Halo video game franchise.

Given that we’ve heard absolutely nothing since, you’d be mistaken for assuming that the project was dead, but it seems that isn’t the case after all as Showtime President and CEO David Nevins has told TV Guide that “[It’s] still in very active development” and that he has seen scripts for the series.

Showtime’s president of programming elaborated a little further, adding that: “[It] is absolutely still in development, still moving forward and I’m encouraged by what we’ve seen so far. It’s still live action, and it will definitely satisfy the fans of Halo and I think also satisfy the drama audiences of Showtime.”

It’s going on five years since 343 Industries took to the stage at E3 and announced plans to bring Halo to cable TV and still, we’re no closer to seeing the end product.

Unveiled as a collaboration between 343, Microsoft and Steven Spielberg (!), there’s been nary a mention of the live-action project ever since, leading many to assume that a premium adaptation of Halo, one of the biggest video game IPs on the market, was little more than wishful thinking.

Turns out that’s not the case, though, as Showtime President and CEO David Nevins has insisted that the Halo TV series is “still in very active development. ” Not only that, but he’s even laid eyes on the scripts, so perhaps it’s further along than initially thought?

    Halo 5: Guardians

    Developed by 343 Industries

    Published by Microsoft Studios

    Available on Xbox One

Halo 2 and Halo 5: Guardians have a lot in common. Both have split narrative campaigns. Halo 2‘s boasted the return of Master Chief and gave fresh perspective by allowing players to play as the Arbiter, previously a Covenant enemy. Halo 5 has players stepping back into the role of Master Chief and his Blue Team, while following the path of Spartan Locke and Fireteam Osiris who’ve been tasked to track him down. Both games feature strong player versus player arena multiplayer modes, which went on to shape the future of the series in the case of 2, and is certain to do so again in the case of 5. Both games also take the series to bigger, more explosive places than what came before, with amazing set pieces, mechanics, and a sense of scope and scale that exceeds their predecessors.

In a fortnight’s time, Xbox One owners eager to pick up Halo 5: Guardians may have some content management to do before they can set foot in 343 Industries’ hotly-anticipated space sequel. That’s because, according to packaged copies appearing online, the studio’s shooter will require “up to 60Gb” of free space.

IGN published a report that appears to verify the file size, which would certainly make Guardians one of the heftiest console titles on the market. This could not only present problems to those planning on downloading the title on October 27, but considering that the Limited Collector’s Edition of the game (priced at $249.99) comes packing a digital code for Halo 5: Guardians, it’s little wonder why Microsoft chose to offer a physical copy as a substitute.

News of Guardians‘ file size arrives in tandem with the game’s pulse-pounding launch trailer. Mapping out the core conflict

Last year it was announced that Xbox Studios and Showtime were teaming up to produce a live action Halo television series with famed director Steven Spielberg helping produce the series. That announcement was made in May 2014 and it wasn’t long after that Xbox stated their intention to put the series out in Fall 2015, acting as a primer of sorts for Halo 5: Guardians. Since then, however, there has been virtually no news about the development of the series until today.

IGN reported that it had the opportunity to ask Showtime president David Nevins at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour about the Halo series and whether or not Showtime was still committed to it. Nevins stated the project is still very much in development, but details were coming “no time soon”. For now, the Halo series remains very much in limbo.

With E3 just around the corner, Microsoft and 343 Studios have really begun rolling out information leading up to their Halo 5: Guardians panel. Halo 5 is easily one of 2015’s most anticipated titles and that anticipation will only grow thanks to the information Game Informer has published.

We look at the films that slipped through Hollywood’s net, from biblical epics to a time travelling Gladiator sequel…

5 Movies Inspired by Creepy True Stories

The magic words “based on a true story” draw audiences in – and directors know it well. Moreover, as a rule, first of all, we are talking about such stories that excite the imagination of the audience either with their mystery, or with their gloom, or both, and others, but first of all — unusual. Sometimes films are based on such cases that are simply hard to believe. One way or another, writers and directors have always been happy to take stories from real life, because the truth is much more outlandish than fiction. We have collected five films that once again prove this.

    The Ritual (2017)

Still from the film The Ritual

The horror film, based on the novel of the same name, may remind fans of the genre such classics as The Blair Witch Project ). The plots are really similar: a group of young people wandering through the forests, and something otherworldly and bloodthirsty following on their heels. True, in the case of the «Ritual» everything is even more interesting, because it is inspired by the real story of the strange disappearance of five people that occurred in the United States in 19’78 in Yuba County, California. The case received a great response due to the numerous mysterious and simply inexplicable circumstances over which researchers are puzzled to this day (it was even dubbed the «American Dyatlov Pass»). A company of five friends went by car to another city for a basketball game. It is curious that all five, although they were able-bodied, suffered from mild mental or mental disabilities (we ourselves do not understand how it came together, and yet). After the match, they were supposed to immediately go back, but relatives did not wait for their return. Later, their car was found in a completely opposite direction, in the mountains, in the middle of the forest in the national reserve. For some reason they abandoned her even though she was serviceable. Three of the five missing were found dead in the forest only after several weeks of searching. The body of the fourth was found in a travel trailer intended for lost tourists. However, although the trailer had enough food and fuel (plus a walkie-talkie to contact the rescuers), this man did not call for help and died of starvation. The fifth disappeared without a trace and was never found. All the oddities of this confusing case can be listed for a very long time, and there is still no clear answer to the question of what happened. Some researchers (as in the case of the Dyatlov Pass) allow any options, up to conspiracy theories or mystical ones — one of them is just shown in the «Ritual».

    Hostel (2005)

    Still from the film Hostel

Hostel and its sequels are among those films that one wants to consider fictional from beginning to end, however, according to them created by Eli Roth, he was inspired by something real — something that Roth himself encountered. In the Hostel, members of the Elite Hunt Club are shelling out money for torturing kidnapped tourists, and Roth didn’t take this idea out of the blue at all. As he told in this interview, one day a journalist friend sent him a link to a certain site, which, in all seriousness, advertised a «vacation with a murder.» “The site offered the following: you go to Thailand, pay $10,000, and the establishment provides you with a “volunteer” whom you can kill with a headshot. Yes, it was clarified that there was supposedly no coercion here, the person knows what he is getting into, and the money, or part of it, should go to his relatives. So you supposedly could save someone from poverty, and, at the same time, find out what it is like to kill a person. Roth called the creator of the site — whoever he was — «mentally ill» (actually, how else to call a psychopath who thought of this?). Of course, we can assume that all this was a joke in the spirit of the «dark side of the Internet», but … who knows.

    The Exorcist (1973)

Still from the film The Exorcist

The film The Exorcist was based on the novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty, who, in turn, admitted to being inspired by the article under the heading «Priest Frees Mt. Rainier Boy Reported Held in Devil’s Grip, which he read in The Washington Post at 1949 (it can still be read here). The author of the message said that in the state of Maryland, in the small town of Mount Rainer, two Jesuit priests performed an exorcism on a 14-year-old boy. The family that was affected by the misfortune did not profess Catholicism — according to the director of The Exorcist, William Friedkin, they were Lutherans (a Protestant movement related to Christianity), and before turning to Catholic priests, they managed to visit both psychologists and psychiatrists, and many other specialists who could not help. According to eyewitnesses, after being possessed by a demon, the boy acquired superpowers — for example, he could lift objects and people that were superior in weight to him, and also move things with the power of his mind. The bed on which he lay moved around the room and sometimes almost hung in the air. The boy himself suddenly spoke in Latin, and even swore in it, although no one had ever taught him this language. The article was released on 29August 1949, but it is reliably known that the victim, whose name was never declassified, was sent to the hospital at the Jesuit University of Georgetown (Columbia) in May of the same year, where he was observed for some time. It is also curious that it was in 1949 that Blatty studied at Georgetown University — it is even possible that he knew more about this mystical story from his teachers, and also saw or talked with this boy.

    «The Drop» (1988)

    A still from the film «The Drop»

A book was written and two films were made about a carnivorous alien from outer space that looks like a large shapeless clot (or «drop») and devours people — the original 1958 of the year and a remake of the same name, a 1988 horror film. And although it seems incredible that the imagination of the creators of «The Drop» could be struck by some real event, thanks to which such a plot was invented, nevertheless, it is true. In 1950, a strange incident was allegedly documented in the United States, when two police officers saw at night how an object similar to a parachute descended from the sky. Arriving at the place where he landed, they saw something shapeless about two meters in diameter, similar to jelly. Inside the «jelly» there was something like crystals, and it spread a haze, gleamed in the light of lanterns and glowed, much like some types of jellyfish. Despite the fact that the find was an unknown thing that fell from the sky, pulsing like something alive (all eyewitnesses had the impression that it was something alive), one of the officers had the great idea to put his hand inside and look , What will happen. The substance that got on his skin evaporated almost instantly, leaving behind «a thin layer of foam without any smell. »

The “clot” itself completely vanished into thin air in half an hour, before anyone in authority had time to study it, but the story and rumors about it circulated in American newspapers for a long time. By the way, here you can find the original message under the heading «A ‘Saucer’ Floats to Earth And a Theory Is Dished Up».

    The Shining (1980)

Still from the film The Shining

Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is a freestyle adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name, which in turn was based on a real incident that occurred with a writer. At 19In 74, he and his wife Tabitha visited the Stanley Hotel, famous throughout America as a “ghost hotel”. It was Stanley that later became the prototype of the Overlook Hotel, also located in Colorado and in many ways similar to its real “double”. It is believed that during the evening and night that King spent in an almost empty hotel (where he and his wife were the only guests), he himself had to become an eyewitness to strange phenomena. He saw the ghosts of children in the corridors, ghostly dancers in the ballroom, and a long-dead maid cleaning room 217 (the «same» ominous number 217 also appears in the book). In addition, he had a nightmare that was included in The Shining in a minimally revised form — about how his three-year-old son was being chased down the hotel corridor by a snake-like fire hose (if King spoke about ghosts in various interviews, he told about a terrible dream on your website). It is easy to assume that the writer’s imagination simply played out (besides, it is known that just at that time he was struggling with alcoholism). But whatever King really owes his inspiration to, the story of a sinister hotel, a father who struggles with his demons and addiction to alcohol, and his young son, according to many fans of the novel, turned out to be simply extraordinarily convincing and lively.

The Roman Empire is trying to establish its order in the British Isles. In constant skirmishes with local Celtic tribes, many soldiers and centurions of the Roman army die. Twenty years ago, the legendary ninth legion disappeared in these parts, which no one has heard of since. Then the honor of the family of the still baby Marcus Flavius Aquila was trampled on, since his father led the missing legion. But Mark believed all his life that the lost golden eagle, the symbol of the legion, could be returned.

Since then, he has matured and become a centurion, who is sent to these hostile lands to lead a large garrison. A young but promising military leader immediately establishes his own strict rules, which leads to massive discontent among ordinary soldiers. However, such a harsh discipline soon gives its results. The garrison of Mark successfully fended off several Celtic raids with minimal losses, which earns the centurion honors and a reward from the senate. But due to a serious wound in the thigh, Mark is forced to leave the service for a while. He recovers to the south of the island to his uncle’s estate, where he has no choice but to simply wait for his recovery, indulging in idle secular entertainment.

During one of the gladiator fights, Mark saves the life of a young slave, a captive Celt named Esca, whose entire family was once killed by the Romans. The guy, although he hates Rome and everything connected with it, recognizes the authority of his new master and swears to serve him. Rumors soon reach Mark that the golden eagle of the ninth legion has been sighted in the north of the country. Aquila tries to convince his uncle and the senators that they need to organize a trip to those places, but high officials consider this idea inappropriate. Then Mark decides to go himself to where no Roman has ever returned. The Centurion takes Esca with him and they cross Hadrian’s Wall, after which only the gods can protect them. After several days of travel, Mark and Esca meet the former legionary Lucius Caius Metellus, one of the surviving warriors of the ninth legion. He tells travelers about a tribe of seal people, the Picts, who ambushed and killed Mark’s father. Soon they find the tribe, and with it the eagle, which the leader of the tribe kept all this time. After several battles, Aquila grants Esca freedom and they unite with the rest of the surviving legionnaires, who were scattered across the local lands. Mark and Esca bring the eagle to the senators, after which the ninth legion is restored.

I can’t say that this is a good film, this is a wonderful film and I thought how more such films would be shown If only we-on television, on screens in cinemas,
in my opinion, they can even be included in the school curriculum for elementary grades.
Capercaillie and his ilk, where for a dollar they will do whatever you want with a person. Where is honor and
conscience. Thank you, the Organizers for these films!!!!!

Beautifully told about the senselessness and ruthlessness of war. Good film. I can not vouch, but still it seems to me that it was filmed without obvious historical mistakes, so you can watch it.
