ASUS Mining P106 — graphics processor for mining

It seems that VGA card manufacturers have finally begun to take care of the cryptocurrency market, which has been growing noticeably lately due to the high profitability of mining. ASUS, one of the leading manufacturers of not only VGA, but also other computer components, has also announced its graphics card based on the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, and the product is called ASUS Mining P106. We’ve already talked about Nvidia’s plans to release a mining-focused GTX 1060 GPU. Initially, the manufacturer’s plan was for this product to be brought to a limited number of markets and not be available for retail. It looks like this plan may also change if ASUS and other VGA brands join in with products that will be available through regular distribution channels.

ASUS Mining P106 is based on the NVIDIA P106-100 GPU and comes with 6 GB GDDR5 memory, which is probably modified with custom timings in order to increase the hashrate for a more intensive data mining algorithm, such as Dagger- Hashimoto (Ethash) for Ethereum. The base clock frequency for the GPU is 1506 MHz, with overclocking — 1708 MHz, for video memory — 8008 MHz GDDR5. The NVIDIA P106-100 GPU was originally reported to be based on the 9 bandwidth version of the GTX 1060.Gb / (perhaps we should talk about 8 Gb / s with the configured timing). As expected, the ASUS Mining P106 GPU does not have any video outputs, being designed only for computational tasks such as mining (the product is unlikely to be interesting for gamers).

Another interesting feature of the ASUS Mining P106 is the IP5X certified dual ball bearing fans that are dust resistant. Hence, they have a longer lifetime and this is really important when mining. ASUS also claims to have used components that improve efficiency, reduce power loss, and reduce noise, which speaks to the product’s unrivaled quality and reliability. The warranty period is not mentioned, because. Initially, Nvidia planned to offer a 3-month warranty for all of its GPUs, although it was said that other brands (such as ASUS) could provide a 1-year warranty. No one is talking about the price of the product yet, but it is logical to assume that mining GPUs should be cheaper and more attractive to miners than the consumer version of the GTX 1060. This product will probably be available in some markets next month.

ASUS also announced a second GPU dedicated to miners, but I don’t think it’s as interesting as the NVIDIA P106-100. ASUS Mining RX 470 is essentially a standard AMD Radeon RX 470 graphics card with 4 GB of VRAM and clocked at 7000 MHz. In this case, no improved timing (for performance) is reported. AMD’s GPU design is very similar to Nvidia’s mining model, although it doesn’t have the connectors to use this card for gaming. The fans are the same as in gaming models. Interestingly, ASUS claims that the same «improved» components are used «to increase the reliability of the product for mining purposes.»
