Operation Oracle & Free Access Weekend May 2 – PlayStation.

Now is the time to dive into the world of Ghost Recon Wildlands, as PS4 players are getting a new free story on May 2 with the Operation Oracle update.

Two new missions are waiting for you, which you can complete both independently and as part of a squad of up to four players. During Operation Oracle, the Ghosts must rescue a captive Skell-Tek engineer from Unity forces.

A simple rescue mission suddenly becomes more complicated when you meet Cole D. Walker, the commander of the Ghost squad, who makes you wonder — how to tell friend from foe?

Want to try the game for free, including Operation Oracle and other post-launch updates? What a score! After all, from May 2 to May 5, Ghost Recon Wildlands on PS4 will be free to play. The game can be preloaded on May 1st. All the achievements you get during the free period will be saved in case you decide to purchase the game. You will still need a PlayStation Plus to use any online modes.

Operation Oracle is one of the free post-release expansions for Ghost Recon Wildlands, currently including Ghost War PvP and Tier 1 modes, as well as special crossover operations with Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher, Rainbow Six operatives, and even the Predator .

Stéphane Boudon, Content Director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, agreed to talk to us about previous missions, how they came to be in the game, and what the Ghosts will face during Operation Oracle.

Ghost Recon Wildlands received a lot of support in the form of Special Operations upon its release, starting with Sam Fisher’s appearance in Special Operation 1. What was your favorite thing about working on them?

Stéphane Boudon: Designing the Year 2 content for Ghost Recon Wildlands gave us a great opportunity to expand the universe of this world by inviting famous guests there. We are proud of the success and how the community has embraced the new operations. And we hope that Operation Oracle will be the icing on the cake! Working on Year 2 also allowed us to look into the future and reveal some secrets regarding Skell-Tech.

And since I’m not only a developer, but also a player, one of the most enjoyable moments of Year 2 was the return of Scott Mitchell (Ghost Commander). I really enjoyed working side by side with screenwriters and writers! One of the important tasks was the visual transformation of Scott, because our old friend never appeared in HD. Speaking of Scott. You can learn something about him in Operation Oracle.

How important is community feedback when developing new Special Operations? What are the biggest improvements and gameplay changes that have been implemented based on feedback?

SB: The feedback from the community has greatly influenced the progress of Year 2 and each of the Special Operations. Although we wanted to surprise players by inviting special guests to the Wildlands, everything else was dictated by the wishes of the community. From the addition of Photo Mode to Guerrilla Mode (where players defend key areas from waves of enemies). By request, we added weapons, the ability to set the time of day, new night vision goggles, and much more.

Operation Oracle touches on a rather interesting area. What’s so special about this operation for ghosts?

SB: In Operation Oracle, we want to put players and their knowledge of the Wildlands to the test. The arrival of yet another Ghost Commander, Cole D. Walker, will shed new light on Karen Bowman, the Ghost’s CIA informant. We can’t wait to see the reaction of the players!

What makes this mission different from other special operations in the Wildlands?

SB: If the rest of the Special Operations added new PVE and PVP features to the game, then this update will be slightly different. Its main highlight will be two tasks where players will meet with Cole D. Walker. What happens in this case can be a great reserve for the future.

What can you add to the game after it’s released that you couldn’t bring to the game in the first place?

S.B.: Supporting the game after its release gives us an incredible opportunity to surprise both experienced and new players with new content, as well as take into account wishes and feedback. Dialogue with the community has contributed to the professional growth of our team and the overall development of Ghost Recon Wildlands.

A great example of this: photo mode. We, the developers, can at any time pause the game, move the camera, change weather conditions and time of day. For us, this is in the order of things. I often see developers exploring the world we’re creating and getting lost in it, checking every detail or playing with stopped special effects. Yes, I do it myself.

By the time the game was released, we were already aware of this hidden potential, but we had much more important tasks, and therefore we did not have time to solve technical issues related to the photo mode.
