Best RTX 3070 Graphics Card — Top GPU Comparison of 2023

The best RTX 3070 is still the one you can buy right now. Because, like other cards in the NVIDIA 3000 series, the RTX 3070 is one of the most sought-after graphics cards ever. No wonder the RTX 3070 is fast and efficient and essentially the same as the previous generation 2080 Ti. But, for less than half the price.

Which RTX 3070 graphics cards can we recommend? There are countless models, and it’s easy to get lost. That’s why, as always, we’ve carefully researched and ranked the very best RTX 3070 graphics cards for you.0005

Our pick of the best RTX 3070 graphics cards

    1. EVGA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING

For us, EVGA’s XC3 offers the best value. Very strong benchmarks, good cooling, extremely quiet, and even cheaper than most models of comparable power.

      What we liked :

      • Very good cooling
      • Solid performance
      • Very quiet operation
      • Best value for money
      • Increased current limit

      What disappointed us :

      • No back plate
      • A bit boring looking
      • Not suitable for all housings
      • Blurred RGB

Do you want a good compromise between performance and price? Then this model from EVGA is probably the best RTX 3070 for you. Because here you get almost everything you need: very good cooling with extremely low temperatures of 51°C under load, low volume with a very quiet 26 dB and a strong Timespy score of 13111. The exposed PCB helps with cooling, and the iCX3 cooler’s three axial fans do a great job.

In terms of design, the RTX 3070 XC3 is pretty monotonous, but the pure black color might appeal to a lot of people. At 28.5 cm long and 11.2 cm high, it looks like a 2.5-slot card and is a bit bulky due to the three fans. The EVGA logo is nicely lit with RGB, but there are no other lighting effects.

What’s especially good about the XC3 is the increased power cap to 264W, which gives you a lot of overclocking potential for the . With many other graphics cards, you are more limited. All in all, you get an excellent RTX 3070 that can do it all. If its appearance and meager RGB do not bother you, then take it without hesitation.

    2. GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 Gaming OC

Those who want a bit more performance should take a look at Gigabyte’s time-tested gaming graphics card. It’s a bit warmer and louder than the EVGA model, but it’s a higher performance alternative with better VRM.

      What we liked :

      • Very strong performance
      • Very good voltage converter
      • Good overclocking potential
      • Better performance than more expensive MSI Gaming Trio X
      • Good back plate

      What disappointed us :

      • Heats up a bit under load
      • Slightly louder than other graphics cards in games
      • Solid
      • Less energy efficient
      • Weak RGB

If you need a bit more performance, you should try the Gigabyte Gaming OC . With a Timespy value of 14378, it outperforms not only the currently recommended card from EVGA, but also the very popular Gaming Trio X from MSI. In addition, there is a high power limit of 270W, which is 23% higher than NVIDIA’s reference model and also 30W more than comparable graphics cards. This ensures very stable performance out of the box, while overclocking to 1995 MHz is quite possible.

      The

Gaming OC also wins in other important areas. As a cooling solution, Gigabyte uses the WindForce 3X design, which uses three 85mm fans. Based on various tests, the maximum temperature is 66-70°C, which is absolutely reasonable. Sure, it’s a little warmer than other graphics cards, but anything below 80°C is perfectly fine. The volume is also capped at 35 dB and is even a bit quieter than the top model from ASUS.

      The

Visually, Gigabyte’s card uses a combination of black and gray highlights paired with an angular design, and features a premium metal plate on the back. At 29 cm long and 11.5 cm high, the Gaming OC is not a small RTX 3070 – so keep that in mind when choosing a case.

The bottom line is that you’re getting a very high-end, all-around RTX 3070 that’ll handle all your games at 1440p just fine. If you don’t mind the somewhat gray design and barely noticeable RGB lighting, there’s not much to complain about.

    3. INNO3D GeForce RTX 3070 Twin X2

Want to pick up one of the most affordable RTX 3070 cards? Then hold on. The price is adequate, but of course it is slower and louder than the rest.

      What we like :

      • Quite compact
      • One of the most affordable RTX 3070 graphics cards
      • Good value for money
      • With back plate

      What disappointed us :

      • Clock level
      • Only 2 fans
      • No acceleration potential
      • A little noisy under load

If you just want to have an RTX 3070 and enjoy all the benefits of the series, but are trying to «save money», you should take a closer look at this model from Inno3D. Because the overall package here is absolutely correct, although of course you have to make a few compromises.

This entry-level model omits any RGB (only the logo glows white) and uses only two fans instead of the three-fan design of more expensive Inno3D models. You still get a slight factory overclock to 1740MHz, but in many tests the card doesn’t perform as well as the others in our comparison. In addition, there is a rather low power limit, which is 240W, which is below the values of many other graphics cards. So overclocking is not the place here.

Also, the card gets a little louder under load. However, at just 24 cm, the Twin X2 is much more compact than its competitors and therefore fits in more cases. It also draws slightly less power than other graphics cards, which is good for a budget build.

So the relatively low price of the Twin X2 is nothing to complain about, because anyone looking for an inexpensive RTX 3070 will find what they’re looking for here and won’t be disappointed.

    4. ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3070 OC

This high-end 1905MHz beast offers the best of everything. Extremely high quality, fast, quiet, cool, only, unfortunately (as always), much more expensive than the competition.

      What we liked :

      • One of the strongest RTX 3070
      • First class cooling
      • Very quiet under load
      • Very good overclocking potential with 350W power limit
      • 2x HDMI
      • Quality build

      What disappointed us :

      • Very inconvenient to install
      • Darling
      • Not very good value for money

If you’re looking for the best RTX 3070 for overclocking, go for it — if you have the budget. Because the ROG Strix Gaming OC is very expensive. What you get is really brutal performance and the best overclocking performance of the RTX 3070 series. But this monster also gives you a fast clock speed of 1905 MHz out of the box so you don’t even have to worry about overclocking.

Cooling here is also first-class: with smooth 56-58°C Gaming OC is very quiet even under load.

In addition, ASUS has decided to offer its flagship RTX 3070 with more than one HDMI output. A welcome benefit for multi-monitor gamers who don’t yet have devices with DisplayPort inputs.

The only potential drawback for some will be the massive 3-slot design. Because at 31.9The ROG Strix 3070 is one of the longest RTX 3070 cards, which can lead to compatibility issues with smaller cases or front-facing water coolers. Plus, of course, the is horrendously priced at the , which makes you think twice about whether the small performance increase is worth it.

Regardless, the ASUS ROG Strix 3070 Gaming OC is a premium beast that is undeniably one of the most beautiful and versatile graphics cards out there.

    5. Zotac GeForce RTX 3070 Twin Edge

Those looking for an RTX 3070 for a compact gaming PC should take a closer look at this 23cm model from Zotac. Of course, it is not as productive, and also louder and warmer under load.

      What we like :

      • Ideal for small cabinets
      • Relatively quiet in operation
      • Good price
      • With reinforced back plate

      What disappointed us :

      • Heats up a bit under load
      • Slightly weaker in benchmarks
      • No overclocking potential
      • No RGB

The Zotac Gaming RTX 3070 Twin Edge is one of the most compact graphics cards of its generation that also offers high performance and a reasonable price.

For a dual-slot graphics card with two fans only 23+ cm long and a solid 1755MHz clock speed, there’s nothing to complain about here. With the growing popularity of small form factor gaming PCs, the Zotac Twin Edge 3070 could be one of the most popular graphics cards.

Despite its compact size, Twin Edge does not skimp on the cooling system and is equipped with improved fans and Ice Storm 2.0 direct contact heatpipes. According to tests, it keeps the temperature at a reasonable 70°C under load and manages to remain quiet (only 35 dB). Of course, the cooling unit cannot keep up with the top models due to its compact size, but it should not.

Either way, this RTX 3070 from Zotac is a great choice for anyone looking to build a compact gaming PC. By the way, it is also available in elegant white!

    6. EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 FTW3 Ultra Gaming

The EVGA RTX 3070 FTW3 Ultra Gaming graphics card impressed us in all the right areas. It comes with a fantastic design, great build quality and all the extra features you could want.

      What we like about :

      • High build quality
      • EVGA iCX3 Cooler
      • Dimmable LED ARGB
      • Large overclocking space

      What disappointed us :

      • Design can be a bit simple for some

When it comes to high-end graphics cards, EVGA is one of the biggest names. They have been designing some of the best GPUs on the market for years, providing users with a high quality build, great overclocking options, and fantastic performance across the board.

At the same time their gaming RTX 3070 FTW3 Ultra wins our award in terms of pure performance. EVGA has a number of its own goodies, including huge overclocking space and a design that is arguably one of the best on the market.

Even if you don’t feel ready to overclock your new GPU, this graphics card still delivers great performance right out of the box, offering some of the highest Boost clock speeds available.

    RTX 3070 Buying Tips

Now that we know which RTX 3070 graphics cards are the best, let’s answer some burning questions and take a look at some comparisons. That way, you’ll know what to expect and whether the graphics card is right for you. For more general information and an explanation of technical terms, check out our guide to buying the best graphics cards.

    Who’s RTX 3070 for

The RTX 3070 was launched with 2080 Ti-like performance at half the price of the latest generation flagship graphics card. Although the memory is 3 GB less, you will be able to enjoy 1440p 144Hz games , and even 4K games at 1080p . However, for some games in the future, the 3 GB reduction in memory may become noticeable, especially at 4K resolution.

Just as the GTX 970 once brought 1080p gaming to life, the GeForce RTX 3070 brings 4K gaming to the masses. Its performance can almost match the RTX 2080 Ti at 4K. With the RTX 3070, today’s 4K games have finally stopped costing a fortune.

Sure, the GeForce RTX 3070 may not offer the same amazing performance as the GeForce RTX 3080 or even the RTX 3090, but with its affordable price, it’s one of the best graphics cards for most of us.

In a nutshell — buy an RTX 3070 if:

    • You want to port your games to 4K
      The

RTX 3070 can easily run almost any game in 4K without sacrificing quality settings. However, for some games, such as Red Dead Redemption 2, you will need to reduce the frame quality a bit.

    • You need a (relatively!) inexpensive graphics card

We don’t know if this is currently possible, but the Founders Edition has a suggested retail price of around $600. Sure, it’s not cheap, but compared to more expensive series like the RTX 3080, it offers great value for money.

    • You have a smaller case

At least some models don’t come with a giant cooler like the RTX 3080, making it much easier to fit a graphics card into smaller PC cases.

What features does the RTX 3070 chipset have

The GeForce RTX 3070 is powered by an Ampere GA104 GPU. This GPU has 5888 CUDA cores spread across 46 Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs) and is based on the same Ampere architecture as the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. And as with these graphics cards, there are tons of improvements in both performance, as well as energy efficiency.

While the RTX 3070 only increases the number of SMs by 27%, the number of CUDA cores doubles compared to the old generation, greatly increasing performance. You also get second generation ray tracing cores and third generation tensor cores. It makes ray tracing and DLSS are much more powerful and efficient than . In particular, ray tracing is much faster, as the new RT cores provide twice the bandwidth of its predecessor.

In addition, the RTX 3070 is also the only graphics card in the Ampere series with moderate power consumption and 220W TGP (Total Graphics Power) performance. That’s just 100W less than the RTX 3080, which means the cooling requirements are substantially lower than the more powerful Ampere cards.

RTX 3070 vs. RTX 2080 Ti

The RTX 3070 is considered the killer of the RTX 2080 Ti. But does she live up to her title? In fact, it can keep up with the old flagship — even in 4K. Of course, there are differences depending on the game, but what the 3070 can do here is really remarkable. Not to mention that it is now much cheaper.

More modern technology makes itself felt and overthrows the old king. In our opinion, despite having more video memory, the 2080 Ti doesn’t make sense in this comparison anymore (unless you can buy it somewhere for a great price).

    RTX 3070 vs. RTX 3080

In a direct comparison to its big brother, the RTX 3070 has to admit defeat and falls behind by about 20-25% of depending on the game. If you consider that it has 3 GB less video memory, and it is also noticeably cheaper, then you can put up with it.

For 2K gaming, the RTX 3080 is overkill, but of course needed for 4K.

    RTX 3070 vs RX 6800

A direct competitor from AMD has twice the video memory and more power. Only 16% more expensive, RX 6800 average performance advantage of 20-25% — not bad. This is very positive for AMD fans, but there are also huge issues with shipping and price spikes for the RX 6800. If you can buy it at a reasonable price, go for it.

The RTX 3070 also features improved ray tracing and DLSS, a great alternative at this price point. You just have to weigh what’s more important to you: extra video memory or RTX 3070 features. Both graphics cards are good and useful.

    Closing Words

You now have a definitive guide to the best RTX 3070 GPUs the market has to offer. We recommend using this as a good guide to find out which RTX 3070 graphics card best suits your specific needs.

Ultimately, the RTX 3070 is a very affordable mid-range GPU that meets many requirements. Not only does it play 1080p and 1440p games at a very high level, but it also offers great value for money. If you’re looking for a graphics card that will break you but has all the perks that Ampere has to offer, we think the RTX 3070 should be high on your list of considerations.

I hope this guide has helped you decide which GPU is best for your needs. If you have any other questions regarding this GPU, or any of the RTX family, feel free to leave us a comment in the appropriate section below.

ROPs are responsible for some of the final steps of the rendering process, such as writing the final pixel data to memory and for performing other tasks such as anti-aliasing to improve the appearance of graphics.

    Memory

    effective memory speed

    14000MHz

    19000MHz

The effective memory clock is calculated from the size and data transfer rate of the memory. A higher clock speed can give better performance in games and other applications.

    maximum memory bandwidth

    448GB/s

    608.3GB/s

This is the maximum rate at which data can be read from or stored in memory.

VRAM (video RAM) is dedicated video memory. More VRAM usually allows you to run games at higher settings, especially for things like texture resolution.

    GDDR versions of

    GDDR6X

Later versions of GDDR memory offer improvements such as higher data transfer rates, which improves performance.

    memory bus width

    256bit

    256bit

A wider memory bus means it can carry more data per cycle. This is an important factor in memory performance, and therefore the overall performance of the graphics card.
