Mit dem neuesten Next Gen-Update für PC und Konsolen wird das großartige Rollenspiel nicht nur technisch und grafisch aufpoliert, es gibt sogar ein paar neue Inhalte und spielerische Upgrades. Doch welche davon sind besonders wichtig? Und was genau macht den signifikanten Unterschied zum Original aus?
In diesem Artikel listen wir euch die sieben größten Änderungen des Next Gen-Updates für The Witcher 3 auf und was damit neu dazugekommen ist. Dabei beziehen wir uns vor allem auf die Infos aus den offiziellen Patch Notes, die CD Projekt Red zum Release geteilt hat. Neue Waffen, Rüstungen, eine Quest und mehr
Kommen wir zuerst zum Content: The Witcher 3 hat mit seinem kostenlosen Next Gen-Upgrade eine Handvoll neuer Inhalte bekommen, die es zuvor im Spiel noch gar nicht gab. Dabei handelt es sich um die folgenden Waffen, Rüstungen und sogar eine Quest:
- Neue Waffe: Schwerter der Neunschwänzigen Füchsin
- Neue Rüstung: Rüstung des Weißen Tigers aus dem Westen
- Neues Rüstung: Dol-Blathanna
- Neue Gwent-Karte: Plötze
- Neue Nebenquest:

Gameplay-Änderungen im Detail
Gleichzeitig wurde das Gameplay von The Witcher 3 durch das Next Gen-Update nochmal im Detail verbessert. Konkret geht es um die folgenden Änderungen:
- Geralt und Ciris erlittener Fallschaden wurde reduziert, sodass Stürze aus größeren Höhen nicht gleich zum Bildschirmtod führen.
- Eine neue Option ermöglicht das schnellere Ändern und Wirken von Zeichen.
- Ähnliches gilt für das Rad-Menü, über das ihr Bomben, Bolzen und Taschengegenstände auswählt
- Kräuter können ohne zusätzliches Beutefenster und so mit nur einem Tastendruck gepflückt werden.
- Wer mit dem Controller spielt, kann den linken Stick nur leicht nach vorne drücken, um langsamer zu laufen. Sprinten ist nun ebenfalls durch das Drücken des linken Sticks möglich.
- Ein neuer Kartenfilter ermöglicht das Ausblenden von bestimmten Symbolen wie Fragezeichen oder Boote, damit die Map nicht so zugemüllt ist.
- Mit einer neuen Option in den Spieleinstellungen lassen sich Minimap und Questziele dynamisch verbergen, damit Spieler mehr von ihrer Umgebung haben.
- Eine neue Option in den Controller-Einstellungen kann dafür sorgen, dass das Fixieren auf ein Ziel von der Kameraumkehrung nicht betroffen ist.
- Die Schriftgröße von Untertiteln, NPC-Gesprächen und Dialogoptionen lässt sich in den Optionen unter Video und HUD-Anpassung einstellen.
Neue Kameraperspektiven für dynamischere Kämpfe
Dank einer neuen Kameraeinstellung könnt ihr die Kämpfe von The Witcher 3 etwas intensiver und direkt cineastischer aussehen lassen. Dabei ist die Kamera deutlich näher am Geschehen, was natürlich auch Gefahren birgt: Gegner können euch leichter von hinten überraschen.
Ob die neue Perspektive etwas für euch ist, findet ihr am besten selbst beim Spielen heraus. Zugriff darauf bekommt ihr in den Optionen unter Gameplay und Kameradistanz
und Erkundung/Kampf/Reiten

für die PC-Version
Vom Next Gen-Upgrade profitiert sowohl die PC- als auch die Konsolen-Version. So gibt es beispielsweise bessere Himmelstexturen, neue Wetter-Effekte, überarbeitete Grafik und Beleuchtungen, an der Vegetation und den Gewässern wurde ebenfalls geschraubt.
Für PC-Spieler dürfte aber vor allem die neue Grafikoption Ultra+
interessant sein. Die wirkt sich nämlich laut den offiziellen Patch Notes auf die folgenden Punkte aus:
- Anzahl von Hintergrundcharakteren
- Qualität von Schatten, Texturen, Böden und Wasser
- Detailtiefe
- Sichtreichweite
- Support für DLSS3 bei entsprechend kompatibler Hardware

Technik-Check: Unfassbar hübsch und unfassbar Hardware-hungrig
4K-Texturen für die Charaktermodelle
Die Texturen der wichtigsten Figuren — wie zum Beispiel Geralt, Yennefer, Triss, Ciri, Eredin und Co. — wurden auf 4K hochskaliert. Damit sehen die Charaktere nicht nur in Zwischensequenzen, sondern auch im regulären Spiel einen ganzen Ticken schärfer aus (nicht falsch verstehen).
Gleichzeitig werfen die Hauptfiguren auch außerhalb von Zwischensequenzen hochauflösende Schatten, während ein Clipping-Fehler angegriffen wurde, durch den Haare und andere Objekte durch die Rüstung ragten.

In den letzten Jahren war die Modding-Community von The Witcher 3 extrem fleißig. Für die Next Gen-Version des Rollenspiels hat sich CD Projekt Red jetzt ein paar davon geschnappt, um so die Grafik und Spielqualität zu verbessern — konkret Aspekte wie Umgebungs- oder Zwischensequenzen, Gehwege oder dekorative Elemente.

Zu guter Letzt können sich Spieler auch mit einem neuen Fotomodus in der Spielwelt von The Witcher 3 austoben.
