I managed to play a little less than a hundred hours in the journalist version of Football Manager 2022 and play three full seasons for different teams. I will not describe the worn-out functionality that wanders between games in the series from year to year, but I will talk about new features — in the end, it is on the basis of them that many fans of the series decide whether to buy a new part. Let’s see what the developers have added this time, and answer the key question: is it worth taking to the Football Manager 2022 collection?

3D Matches

If you’ve been using any of the older versions of Football Manager for a long time, then the updated 3D match engine is exactly what makes it worth buying a new version of the game. Yes, outwardly the picture remained at the level of FIFA 05, but this is not the main thing in FM. The main thing you should pay attention to is the physics of the players’ behavior. Dribbling, handling, dribbling, passing, shooting on goal — everything looks very cool compared to previous versions. Managers can analyze the behavior of not only the team, but also individual players to determine the strengths and weaknesses that need to be developed in training. Updated charts will allow you to quickly identify problematic and effective areas of the team’s actions. And this is only a small part of the functionality that is presented in FM22.

What else? Our attention is presented to the detailed schedules of the actions of teams in attack and defense. You can find out not only how the players of your club play, but also how the opponents perform in matches against you, and even see the comparison of these indicators with the average in the league. A graph showing the direction of passes in the match will allow you to analyze the pattern of the team’s game and make the necessary adjustments. Going even deeper, you have the option to request an analytical report on any of the players and see the effectiveness of your tactics against other tactics and formations. But what I liked the most was all kinds of reviews and reports about the next opponent. General overview, performance graph, scout report and analytics, statistics in comparison with your team and past results not only between clubs but also between managers throughout your career. Real football clubs use similar statistics when analyzing the game — the football manager simulator is getting closer to reality.
