FAQ

1. When I use Firmware Recovery to download the firmware, the message «The wireless router is not in recovery mode» appears, what should I do?

1-1 First, please make sure your TCP/IPv4 property setting is set as follows:

IP address: 192. 168.1.10

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

If you have completed the setup but your router is still not in recovery mode, follow these steps:

1-2 Unplug the router cord.

1-3 Press the reset button.

1-4 Continue to hold the button and connect the cord to the DC power at the same time.

Note: Please DO NOT release the reset button while Recovery Mode is enabled. nine0003

To determine if your router is in recovery mode or not, check if the power light is blinking slowly.

2. What should I do if I use the «Firmware Recovery» function to update the firmware, but it still fails?

Please repeat the previous steps to download firmware using firmware recovery.

If this does not work, contact the ASUS Customer Service Center.

3. Why can’t I log in to ASUSWRT (http://router.asus.com) after successfully updating the firmware by restoring the firmware?

First, please check if the TCP/IPv4 setting properties are set to [Obtain an IP address automatically] and [Obtain DSN server address automatically].

If the problem still occurs after completing the setup, we suggest that you press the RESET button.

If that didn’t work either, please follow the previous steps to update the firmware again using Rescue Firmware Recovery. nine0003

Configuring crash dumps — Azure Sphere

Optionally, Azure Sphere devices can be configured so that full user-mode crash dumps are reported to Microsoft when an OS or application crashes. Microsoft uses this information to improve the quality of the Azure Sphere OS for all Azure Sphere devices. nine0003

The following diagram shows the steps for collecting crash dumps:

nine0386

Step Description
1. Enable crash dump collection for one or more device groups. If you choose to enable crash dump collection for a group of devices, you have given consent to collect, send, and analyze crash dumps in user mode.
Note: If the application collects personal data from end users, you must obtain their consent before enabling crash dumps for these devices. nine0391
2. Azure Sphere Security will sync consent status with your devices within 48 hours. Crash dumps are never created if the device has not received a consent signal. If the device does not contact the Azure Sphere Security Service within this time period, the device will automatically stop generating crash dumps until the consent state is successfully synchronized with the Azure Sphere Security Service.
3. If crash dumps are enabled, when an OS component or application crashes, the device tries to send the crash dump to a safe location. Once sent securely, the data does not leave the secure location.
4. Data is only available for troubleshooting by the Azure Sphere team using secure, remote, and fully authenticated sessions.

Privacy

  • Crash dumps from all Azure Sphere devices are securely stored in the US East, US West, and EU data centers. Customers in the EU can ensure that application images and crash dump files are processed and stored only within the EU by setting the Regional Data Bounds parameter to EU .

    Note

If the Data Regional Boundary is set to None , crash dump files will be stored in the Eastern or Western US by default. nine0003

  • Crash dump data is stored in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, including the GDPR, and is deleted after 29 days.

Performance guidelines

  • Crash dump uploads typically range in size from a few KiB to tens of KiB.
  • Smart throttling policies ensure that a crash dump is only triggered when needed to minimize performance and throughput impact on devices. This intelligent regulation occurs automatically and does not require any action. Crash dump submission will be skipped after enough dumps from identical crashes have already been collected. nine0363
  • When an application crashes, the device will attempt to securely send a crash dump if it is enabled. Once the crash dump has finished uploading, the application will be restarted. If a network connection cannot be established to send and the device does not respond within the 5 second timeout period, the failed application will restart immediately.

Enable crash dump collection

Crash dumps are not enabled by default. You can give your consent to enable crash dump collection with command azsphere device-group update or in the AllowCrashDumpsCollection query text field in the «Device Group — Fix» API.

For example, the following CLI command enables crash dump collection and specifies that the crash dump data will be stored in the EU.

 azsphere device-group update --device-group DW100/Marketing --allow-crash-dumps-collection "On" --regional-data-boundary "EU"

To disable crash dump collection from the command line interface, set the value to --allow-crash-dumps-collection "Off" .

 azsphere device-group update --device-group DW100/Marketing --allow-crash-dumps-collection "Off"

Disabling crash dumps for all device groups is equivalent to revoking consent.

Note

  • An administrator role is required to grant consent to enable crash dump collection.

  • Response 500 (Internal Server Error) on Update AllowCrashDumpsCollection field usually indicates a temporary error. In this case, it is recommended to repeat the operation. If the error message still occurs, contact your Microsoft representative.
