Diablo Immortal, The Quarry, and Sonic Origins are all set to release in June 2022, along with a host of other titles arriving over the course of the month. The summer holidays are nearly over, but if you’re looking for a new title to settle down with once the monsoon season arrives, there’s a lot to pick across a variety of genres. Football enthusiasts can pick up Mario Strikers: Battle League next week, a five-versus-five game with a few “game changing” tweaks. Hack-and-slash action role-playing game (RPG) fans can look forward to Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes on the Nintendo Switch.

Prefer third-person shooter RPG titles? Outriders: Worldslayer is coming to PC and consoles with three different storylines to choose from, along with a mysterious new endgame experience. Gamers who enjoyed Sonic titles over the years can now play them in high definition, with unlimited lives in Anniversary mode with Sonic Origins. For those who get their thrills from interactive horror games, The Quarry will let you decide the fate of nine teenage summer camp counsellors with your decisions — complete with an online cooperative mode.

Diablo Immortal

When: June 2
Where: PC, iOS, Android

Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase developed Diablo Immortal is a free-to-play game with connections to the Diablo series — best known in the PC and gaming consoles scenario.

On the other hand, Diablo Immortal will primarily be launching on smartphones, along with a beta release on PC. Immortal is a massively multiplayer online (MMO) role-playing game that takes place between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III.

The six-character classes from the Diablo series also make their way to Immortal. Players, when creating a character can choose from Barbarian, Wizard, Monk, Necromancer, Demon Hunter, and Crusader. The game also features cross-save functionality.

Mario Strikers: Battle League

When: June 10
Where: Nintendo Switch

Published by Nintendo, Mario Strikers: Battle League is the third game in the Mario Strikers series. Mario Strikers: Battle League is a 5v5 football video game with minor changes to the official rules.

In Battle League, players can tackle opponents aggressively and also use specific items to gain an advantage over others. Items such as banana peels can be placed on the field so that opponents can slip on them giving you a clear chance at the goal.

Mario Strikers: Battle League follows the street football format with a no-out-of-bounds rule. The entire stadium fence is laced with electricity, so players can ram their opponents into the fence and knock them over.

The Quarry

When: June 10
Where: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X

On the last day of the summer camp in Hackett’s Quarry, nine teenage camp counsellors decide to throw a party. This party quickly turns for the worse and they have to survive the night. How many counsellors survive is eventually up to you in this interactive horror game.

The Quarry features branching storylines from every choice you make. In the end, either all or none of the campers would survive based on the patch. There is an online multiplayer mode where seven other players can watch your game and vote on key decisions. It also comes with a couch co-op mode.

If you don’t feel like playing, you can even enjoy this cinematic experience as a movie. The developer Supermassive Games, which is renowned for the Until Dawn games, has utilised state of the art facial capture and film lighting techniques to make The Quarry immersive. The cast features popular Hollywood stars like David Arquette, Ariel Winter, Brenda Song, and more.

Sonic Origins

When: June 23
Where: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch

Enjoy classic Sonic titles in high definition with the Sonic Origins collection from Sega which includes Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), Sonic 3 & Knuckles (1993), and Sonic CD (1994).

All of these games can be played in Anniversary mode, which introduces a revamped full-screen resolution and unlimited lives. There is also a Classic mode, which reinstates the original resolution with offers you a limited number of lives.

Sega has added new opening and ending animations to bridge all the games, allowing you to play all four of them as a single story. Earn coins to unlock new in-game content and challenges. You can also play Special Stages through the in-game museum.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

When: June 24
Where: Nintendo Switch

Announced at Nintendo Direct in February this year, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is the second Warriors game in the Fire Emblem franchise, after the 2017 release of Fire Emblem Warriors on the New Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch. This upcoming hack-and-slash action role-playing game will offer similar gameplay as the Dynasty Warriors series.

Set in the continent of Fódlan, gamers will be offered three storylines, one for each house leader — Scarlet Blaze, Azure Gleam, and Golden Wildfire. Along with a new character, Shez, gamers can also play as characters from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, including Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude.

Outriders: Worldslayer

When: June 30
Where: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Stadia

A third-person shooter action role-playing game featuring online-only cooperative gameplay, Outriders: Worldslayer is an expansion to Square Enix’s original title Outriders that was released across multiple platforms last year.

Gamers will be introduced to a new villain — Ereshkigal, the leader of the human insurgents. As Worldslayer is set after the events of Outriders, you’ll need to complete the original storyline first.

The upcoming expansion will add new locations and enemies to explore and fight, while adding a new Ascension progression system to make your hero more powerful than before. Outriders: Wordslayer will also feature a mysterious endgame experience titled The Trial of Tarya Gratar — we expect to learn more about it closer to the release date.

Why you should play Diablo Immortal

On the first of June of this year, a terrifying event happened in its scale — the gates of hell opened, and a terrible monster crawled out, instantly making the whole gaming world talk about itself. Whether it’s gaming shows, new product announcements, or news, nothing beats the momentum of this month’s long-awaited release.

The name of this monster is Diablo the Immortal. Tremble!

You know, there are situations when writing in literary Russian is very difficult. More precisely, it is difficult to choose words so that the meaning reaches the reader, but at the same time it does not slide into a mat. And I really want to swear. Name those who do not want to listen and hear arguments with the RIGHT word, but using obscene vocabulary.

Okay, I’ll try another way. There is a well-known unscientific axiom, and it sounds like this: there are more and more people on the planet, and intelligence is a constant value. For those who do not understand, I explain: people get dumber. Moreover, not only those “terrible” teenagers from the zoomer generation, but their parents too. In the gaming community, this manifests itself most clearly.

These are just costumes. They don’t affect anything.

Thanks to today’s opportunities to convey any amount of information in any form, gamers of all ages have lost the ability to think critically. Not all, but many. It is enough for them to listen to someone else’s opinion, there is no way to verify this opinion, to hear in this opinion what their brain receives a response to, and to raise this opinion to the absolute. Moreover, your very brain will not necessarily hear an adequate opinion. Moreover, as a very lazy organ, the brain will gladly absorb the information that is tastier and easier for it to digest.

Naturally, the most tasty morsel is negative information. It hits emotions right away, and an untrained brain does not know how and does not want to filter it, absorbing it entirely. It’s like eating from hunger — you swallow in large pieces without chewing.

So Diablo Immortal is out. Everyone who followed the game knew from the stages of beta tests what this product would be like. Someone agreed with the result, someone did not, but both groups treated each other quite adequately.

But those who didn’t care about the game, having heard the terrible «DONAT» from stupid bloggers, completely ignore the arguments of the other camp — those who liked the game.

One of the raid bosses, the Sandstone Golem. It is killed quickly and easily, but it is not so easy to summon it.

They don’t give a damn about all the arguments. They don’t care that you can feel the influence of this very donation only in one case — direct PvP, which is presented here in one mode, and without which you can quite do without.

But that’s bad luck — the mass Russian gamer in his fantasies sees himself as a winner-winner! And if someone “at the expense of the wallet” suddenly defeats his unsurpassed bending skill, then that’s it, the game immediately gets the stigma of “garbage”. And it doesn’t matter that this «bender» never launched the game and did not take part in PvP, BUT HE KNOWS that he would certainly have won if it weren’t for DONAT!

Yes?

And it doesn’t matter that the number of payers at most is only 5% in any shareware game, and “whales” (as the developers call players who pay relatively much and regularly) — even less! Such experts do not give a damn about any, I emphasize, any arguments, if they do not coincide with their opinion and fantasies.

And the fantasies of such «experts» are extremely primitive and limited.

But I won’t give up. No, comrade! I will try to convey the idea to those people who still cannot decide whether they should spend the most precious resource on the new part of Diablo — their time.

Reasons to play Diablo Immortal

The first, and most important, is the plot of the game. From the first minutes, when your hero arrives by boat in the vicinity of Westmarch, the plot already begins to cling to you and, as a result, does not let go until the very end. Moreover, even after defeating the final boss, one of the younger incarnations of evil, the lord of curses Skarn, the story will not end. More precisely, the global history will end, but local, small-town ones will continue to support your interest. I don’t know who exactly was involved in the lore of the game, the Chinese from NetEase or Blizzard themselves, but the narrators did it really well!

Another raid boss is the Stitched Hydra. Zolan Kul was also an entertainer.

There may be some spoilers ahead, so keep that in mind. The story of Diablo Immortal takes place five years after the end of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. And the heroes have to challenge the unbridled servants of Diablo and his brothers.

Since the game is a prequel to the third part, the global plot develops not up, but in depth. You will learn many details about those situations that happened or were mentioned in passing in the second and third parts. Get to know the old characters better and learn the stories of the new ones.

Here’s what I’ve collected in a few hours of playing. According to «experts», without a donation you will not get a single legendary item.

The coolest mission for me was a journey into the memories of Zoltan Kul, at a time when he and the second legendary Haradrim Tal Rasha for the first time captured the soul of Baal — the lord of destruction. Another reason is a partial genre change. Co-op has been in Diablo since the first part, but this time the developers have gone further and made the game a full-fledged multiplayer game. While playing on the test, many were not aware of the upcoming scale — where four random people used to run, now there are a hundred. It is clear that within the framework of one shard, a mobile game will not withstand such an influx, because the locations are divided into layers. But even in this case, you constantly meet other players in any corner of Sankutaria.

Moreover, the developers encourage you to cooperate in every possible way. For example, by gathering a full group of four people, everyone gets a buff on the chance of gems falling out, and they are very important! The buff is working and honest, he checked the difference himself, although the exact numbers are not indicated.

In addition, dungeons have appeared in the game, for the passage of which four people are needed. We are talking in particular about the treasury of the Immortals, a daily event of the Shadow faction. Without a team, you simply cannot enter the dungeon.

A full-fledged raid for 8 people has also appeared, though only one so far. In it, you need to challenge Lassal, a powerful demon. But once you understand the tactics, dealing with him is not difficult. This is another advantage of Diablo Immortal — the game does not become more complicated than it should be. I’m already at level 20 of the paragon (that’s 60 cap + 20 additional levels of perfection), and I haven’t met anywhere infuriating random mechanics on bosses or dungeons, because of which it’s impossible to calculate tactics against the boss.

But such mechanics are so adored by the developers of large MMORPGs, especially in Asia.

Adding guild and squad functions here. If everything is clear and familiar with guilds — it’s just an association of different players under a common tag, then with squads it’s not so simple.
