 The Corsair K63 Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is an exceptional and versatile keyboard. It can be paired using its wireless USB receiver or through Bluetooth, and it can connect to two devices at a time for easy multitasking. It has linear Cherry MX Red switches that feel extremely responsive, and it has excellent compatibility with various operating systems. It’s designed to fit into the Corsair Lapboard, which provides support and stability when using the keyboard with a home theater PC, although it’s sold separately, and we haven’t reviewed it. Sadly, its backlighting is limited to a single blue color, and it doesn’t have onboard memory or a cloud sync feature to export your customization settings. On the whole, though, it’s a great option for gaming or work.

The Corsair K63 Wireless is an amazing gaming keyboard. Its Cherry MX Red switches feel light and responsive, and it has backlighting for those who like to game in the dark. Also, its latency over a wired connection is impressively low, although it’s a bit higher when used with the receiver or over Bluetooth. You can reprogram or set macros to any key, but there aren’t any dedicated macro keys for MMO games.

The Corsair K63 Wireless is a good office keyboard. It’s comfortable to type on, and it comes with a wrist rest. The Cherry MX Red switches are easy to type on, but they don’t provide any tactile feedback, making it harder to tell if a keystroke was registered. Typing noise is minimal, though, and the keyboard has excellent compatibility with most operating systems.

The Corsair K63 Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard and the Logitech G613 LIGHTSPEED are both wireless mechanical gaming keyboards, but the Logitech is a full-size board with no backlighting, whereas the Corsair is a TenKeyLess with blue backlighting. Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Corsair K63 Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is available in two variants, with the only difference between them being the color of the backlighting; there’s blue and ice blue. While we tested the blue LED variant, we expect most of our results to be valid for the ice blue variant, too. There’s also a wired version of this keyboard, which has red LED backlighting.

The K63 Wireless was designed to work with the Corsair Lapboard, which is meant for use with home theater PCs, as it allows you to sit back on the couch and still have proper support for the keyboard and mouse. It’s sold separately, but it’s often sold as a bundle with the keyboard.

The Corsair K63 Wireless uses standard Cherry MX Red switches. They require a bit of force to actuate, especially for linear switches, and they don’t provide any tactile feedback. The pre-travel distance is slightly higher than the usual 2mm, but it shouldn’t be noticeable for most people.

Typing quality is great. The linear switches are easy to actuate and the keys are very stable. Key spacing is fairly standard, which can help with typing accuracy, but there’s no tactile feedback to let you know when a key press has been registered. The Corsair K63 Wireless has good software support. It uses Corsair’s iCUE software for its customization, which lets you reprogram keys or set macros. You can also save profiles, but there’s no cloud sync option, and the keyboard doesn’t have any onboard memory, so if you need to move to another computer, you would need to re-install the software and start over again. Wireless gaming mice, like the Corsair Dark Core RGB SE, might be the new hotness in the gaming peripheral world, but wireless mechanical keyboards are still deep in their infancy. The fact that the $109 (£109, AU$179) Corsair K63 Wireless is only the second such peripheral – the first one being the $149 (£129, AU$169) Logitech G613 – from a major gaming hardware maker speaks volumes to the nascency of this field.

Whereas the Logitech G613 tried to break the difference between gaming and everyday typing, the Corsair K63 Wireless was designed for gaming from the ground up. Equipped with Cherry MX Red keys, media buttons and backlit lighting, it’s practically everything the already fantastic, $79 (£79, AU$129) Corsair K63 was but made wireless.

There aren’t any surprises here, the Corsair K63 Wireless is a carbon copy of wired version that preceded it. Likewise, if you’ve used or seen any of Corsair’s other keyboards, the K63 Wireless should look familiar to you.

And that’s not a complaint, mind you.

Corsair’s keyboard design is one of the cleanest and most modern in the industry. The frameless design is straightforward, with a tasteful top bezel to give it just enough flair as well as space for dedicated media controls. Despite the K63 Wireless missing out on the aluminum top frame seen on the company’s higher-end K70 and K95 keyboards, the peripheral’s high-quality plastics are rigid and solid throughout.

Underneath the floating keycaps, you’ll find a soft, but powerful blue backlight. We’re impressed that Corsair kept the feature, considering most wireless keyboards will often discard backlighting systems entirely in the name of longer battery life. There’s also a K63 Wireless Special Edition with ice blue backlighting that’s meant to match the Corsair One’s lighting and it costs no more than the regular edition.

The only truly new design elements you’ll find on this keyboard are the additions of a power switch and mini USB charging port on the rear side of it.

We wish Corsair would up its game on palm rests, which still consist of a piece of rigid plastic topped with a thin sheet textured rubber that clips onto the keyboard via two flimsy clips. Meanwhile, Cooler Master and Razer have both moved onto magnetic palm rests that offer support with plush cushions. 

Our problem with the clipped-in palmrest becomes even more exacerbated by all the times we have to snap it off before plugging the keyboard into Corsair’s redesigned Lapboard for couch-side PC gaming.

Couch gaming at its best

Back in 2016, we loved the Corsair Lapdog for replicating the full PC gaming experience from a couch, and the Lapboard is basically the wireless evolution. The biggest changes the Lapboard introduces over its predecessor are that it’s quite a bit smaller and only supports ten-keyless keyboards – specifically the K63 Wireless only for now – and it ditches the internal USB hub for a completely ‘wireless’ setup.

Paying $59 (£54, AU$99) for what is essentially a plastic peripheral holder with some really comfy underside cushioning is a bit steep in our book. Purchasing the Lapboard and the K63 Wireless together in a combo helps take a little bit of the sting out, but $159 or £179 (about AU$200) is still a high asking price. Even the inclusion of an internal battery or USB hub to help us game from the couch for extended play sessions would have made it feel like a more worthwhile purchase.

That said, if you’re after the best PC gaming setup for your couch, you really can’t do much better than this combo plus the Corsair Dark Core RGB SE, Logitech G903 or another wireless gaming mouse. With the Corsair K63 Wireless strapped in, the balance on the Lapboard feels perfect and the large cloth mousepad feels heavenly when you whip your wrist across it.

Performance

Optional accessories and fiddly accessories notwithstanding, the Corsair K63 Wireless is an absolutely delightful wireless gaming keyboard. At times, we keep forgetting that the keyboard is wireless because our experience is completely devoid of input delays and drop-outs.

The 2.4GHz connection is completely stable in our wireless-saturated downtown office environment in NYC. At home, the keyboard also had no problems connecting with a PC on the other side of our house as we played games from a couch.

Between the wireless setup and compact tenkeyless design of the K63 Wireless, it’s easily a portable keyboard. But, while we can see ourselves bringing it over to a friendly LAN party, we still can’t imagine taking this wireless keyboard to a big esports competition over a tried-and-true wired keyboard like the Logitech G Pro.

In terms of battery life, Corsair claims the K63 Wireless is good for up to 75 hours with the backlight turned off. Having the keyboard at even a third of its maximum brightness drops run time to 25 hours – and just 10 hours with the backlight at full blast. Our testing lines up well with Corsair’s projected numbers.

While this editor isn’t crazy about Cherry MX Red switches, they offer consistent, linearly actuated, inaudible keystroke and 4mm of key travel. It’s perfect for gaming, but not much else beyond that.

Final verdict

If you’re looking for a full-featured wireless gaming keyboard with real mechanical switches, backlit keys and media shortcuts, the Corsair K63 Wireless delivers in full. It also helps that this is the most affordable wireless keyboard out there at $109 (£109, AU$179). Of course, it’s only major competitor is the larger $149 (£129, AU$169) Logitech G613 that gains a number pad over Corsair’s option.

Whether you’re looking for a cleaner PC gaming setup or the ultimate solution for playing from the couch, the Corsair K63 Wireless is a fantastic option well worth the slightly pricey admission. More than anything else, now we’re excited to see more wireless versions of Corsair’s already celebrated keyboards, like the K70 and Strafe.

Corsair makes many of the most popular keyboard models on the market today. Not so long ago, the manufacturer introduced its first wireless keyboard K63 Wireless to the world. The latest tech keyboard is super fast and responsive with a solid connection. This model allows you to forget about a bunch of wires on your desktop and sit on the couch to play your favorite computer games on the big screen.

PC wireless connection aside, the Corsair K63 Wireless is the same original K63. It boasts genuine Cherry MX switches, dedicated media keys and a wrist rest, but at a much higher cost. Being able to connect a keyboard to a PC without using a cable is definitely convenient, but is it worth the extra cost? Let’s find out!

Specifications

K63 Wireless is a multifunctional keyboard that can connect to a PC via a cable and simultaneously supports 2.4 GHz wireless network via Bluetooth 4.2.

During testing, I did not notice any perceptible lag when connected via a 2.4 GHz connection. However, if you’re a hardcore wired user and prefer to play it safe during an important match in the game, this model comes with a 1.8m rubber USB cable with an adapter for connecting to a PC.

The same cable is used for both connecting the keyboard to the computer and for charging. But note that at least a USB 3.0 connection is required to ensure sufficient battery power.

Cherry switches are very quiet, no click, 4 mm full, 2 mm actuation. The pressing force is 45 grams. They are great for those who want to stream but don’t want the keyboard to be too clicky when streaming.

The manufacturer promises that the keyboard will work offline for 75 hours when the backlight is off. Otherwise, the battery will last for 25 hours with the backlight brightness set to 33%, or 10 hours with the backlight at full power. I specifically tested the device in offline mode in various ways and made sure that this is indeed the case.

Many underestimate the Corsair K63 Wireless without wires, but in vain. I don’t think battery life is an issue, especially when you can charge even while gaming and the power light will flash red until it’s below 30 percent.

Dimensions of the device — 366x173x41 millimeters. Weight a little over a kilogram (1200 grams). It is amazing how the manufacturer managed to achieve such a golden mean, because the keyboard, although not so heavy, lies steadily on the table and does not move during hot gaming competitions, but at the same time it is not the lightest. However, there are no problems with transportation.

Corsair K63 Wireless comes in a branded box with a clear image of the device, as well as extensive information about its specifications and capabilities. However, the first thing that catches your eye upon unpacking is that the keyboard has a matte color and completely non-staining plastic. This is a huge plus for those who play every day.

In addition to the keyboard, the box contains:

• Corsair K63 Wireless detachable wrist rest;
• USB cable;
• USB adapter;
• wireless key;
• manufacturer’s warranty;
• instructions.

Wireless dongle supplied for low latency PC communication. It allows you to place the receiver close to the keyboard to eliminate possible interference. This receiver is paired with the K63 Wireless from the factory and is required for the device to operate in 2.4GHz wireless mode.

Corsair does not include any holders on the device for the wireless receiver, so you will need to properly store it so that it does not get lost during shipping. However, if the USB receiver is lost, a replacement can be obtained from Corsair Customer Service, provided the device is used in USB or Bluetooth mode.

Appearance and design

As for appearance, there are no surprises here. Corsair K63 Wireless is a copy of the wired keyboard model that preceded it. If you’ve used or seen any other Corsair keyboards, the K63 Wireless should look familiar.

The design is made in the best traditions of the classics, but with elements of modern trends. That is, the device, as it were, and skeleton, however, does not look naked, because the board is covered with a plate. This is a tenkeyless keyboard, that is, without a number pad. There are many advantages to this:

1. it takes up less space on the table,
2. it weighs less,
3. it is easier to transport if needed.

Tenkeyless keyboards are called tournament keyboards for a reason. K63 looks very neat — nothing gets in the way on the sides, there are grooves for the palm rest, which comes with the kit, from the bottom. I was pleased with the block of multimedia buttons located on top and responsible for:

• scroll back;
• pause;
• scroll forward;
• high volume control.

There is also an LED control button that allows you to change the brightness of the backlight or turn it off completely.

The keyboard layout is the most standard — just what gamers love: no additional macro buttons, no shortened shifts. The manufacturer shifted the f1-f4 keys a little to the left, but this was done so that all the buttons fit normally. This is not critical, and you can quickly get used to it.

Corsair K63 Wireless is backlit. It is only blue, but very bright. There is also a blue backing on the bottom, which further enhances the effect, so that even in daylight the backlight is very visible. I’m impressed that Corsair has kept this feature, given that most wireless keyboards often drop backlighting systems entirely in the name of longer battery life.

The case itself is very strong and made of hard, high quality plastic. It takes a lot of effort to break it. All inserts from below are rubberized and hold the device well on the table. The legs are made according to the standard design for this manufacturer. Sturdy enough to keep the structure from moving around the table. The stand has rubber inserts on the bottom, which makes it stable as well.

The included rubber-coated USB cable has the Corsair brand on both ends and is 1.8 meters long, long enough to sit comfortably on a desk. The Corsair logo is on both the USB receiver and the dongle for easy identification.

Features

Corsair K63 Wireless is an amazing wireless gaming keyboard. This, of course, is my personal subjective opinion, which has developed after a long operation of this keyboard. Sometimes I forgot that the keyboard is wireless because the experience of using the device during computer games was completely lag-free and without any dropouts, while I was playing with excitement while sitting on the couch.

Multifunctional

The keypad is multifunctional. For example, so that the backlight does not eat out your eyes, you can use the additional ability to control its brightness: just turn it off or select one of the three modes. In addition, there are several backlight modes:

• print backlight.

Everything is configured with the help of drivers. You can make your own lighting. For example, highlight only those keys that you need or apply effects to each other. In addition to highlighting, you can write macros, set the polling frequency, or choose which key combinations will be blocked in game mode. That is, it can be not only the windows button, but also ALT + TAB or SHIFT + TAB so that the stream menu does not open during the game. However, please note that the CUE setting is not available via Bluetooth. You will need a 2.4GHz or wired connection to make changes.

With independent media controls and Cherry MX Red line switches, this model can be an ideal keyboard for people who want to play on HTPC without sacrificing data transfer speed or resorting to using a controller.

Ergonomics and testing

The plastic wrist rest has a nice textured surface with a soft touch. It connects securely to the bottom of the device with tabs. I’m not a big fan of textured surfaces as they usually cause me more discomfort than plastic material, but they are more ergonomic, which is very important for the hand and wrist in general, especially when spending long hours at the computer.

While testing the K63, I was so addicted to the game that sometimes I sat at the computer literally all day long. However, thanks to the ergonomic wrist rest and comfortable tilt of the keyboard, the hands did not get tired or uncomfortable at all.

What is Corsair K63 Wireless?

K63 wireless is Corsair’s first keyboard to break the wires for a wireless desk. Its smaller, keyless design will fit perfectly into any size setup, and with the optional Bluetooth connection, it will work with just about any device.

It’s also not interested in gaming pedigree: it features Cherry Red MX switches and a response time of just 1ms in 2.4GHz mode. If you’re a living room gamer, you can even plug the K63 wireless into your Corsair laptop to enjoy wireless couch gaming.

It all comes at a cost — the K63 is quite expensive for a board without any RGB lighting — but there’s no doubt that it’s currently the best wireless gaming keyboard on the market.

If there’s one thing Corsair consistently does right with its keyboards, it’s the layout. The K63 is exquisitely well thought out. You’ll find a bank of media keys along the left and right sides of the board that are easy to activate in a pinch. You lose out on the roller volume that is present on more layered keyboards, but that’s not something I’ve missed in everyday use.

As a keyless keyboard, the K63 Wireless lacks a number pad, but everything else is exactly where you’d expect it to be. Plus, I rather like having extra space on my desk.

Each key uses a Cherry MX Red switch to operate and has one LED under each cover. It’s worth noting that Corsair now sells hardened dual keys (as shown) as an option on their keyboards — though unless you appreciate the cool white styling, I wouldn’t say it’s a huge step up from the stock setup.

Unfortunately there is no RGB backlighting on the K63, the only color options are «Blue» or «Cyan». This makes perfect sense, since RGB reduces battery life significantly. However, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Corsair’s full-sized RGB backlit wireless keyboard coming soon.

The keyboard housing itself is very well constructed, with no signs of flex. Rear drop-down struts work the way you’d expect and unlike the K95, they do not fall off when hit horizontally. Unfortunately, the palm rest is a little disappointing. It feels rather cheap and flimsy, spoiling what is otherwise a flawless design execution.

Connecting a keyboard is simple and easy. Requires one USB 3.0 port for included dongle. Battery life is 15 hours, though it can be extended to 25 hours by dimming, or up to 75 hours by turning it off completely.

It’s a shame that you’ll need two USB dongles if you’re also using a Dark Core wireless mouse, although Corsair says the technology isn’t there yet to allow this without lowering latency.

As a mechanical gaming keyboard, the K63 Wireless has a lot to justify, but it excels in all gaming scenarios without breaking a sweat.

Mechanical keyboards are not often wireless, and the reason for this is latency, the time it takes for the keyboard to communicate with the computer. The biggest praise I can pay for the K63 wireless, aside from the fact that it’s wireless, is that I never knew it was different from any other MX red switch keyboard. Keystrokes register instantly and I’ve never had any instances of delay, lag or disconnect.

For gaming, the K63 works like a charm with a Cherry Red linear switch that controls movements and actions with ease. Having a mechanical keyboard is a real godsend for gaming, and while the K63 Wireless won’t turn you into an esports champion, it will certainly help your game.

I have mixed feelings when it comes to typing; I’ve used linear switches for years with no problems, and the extra key travel improves typing quality. Having said that, the tactile brown and blue switches are widely considered the best for typing, and it seems odd that Corsair doesn’t currently offer the K63 wireless in those variants.

The Corsair CUE software can be used to customize keyboard functions and you can assign keys and run applications or macros. It’s easy to use — although despite the many lighting effects to choose from, you can’t wirelessly pair the lighting with other Corsair peripherals, unfortunately.

Why buy Corsair K63 Wireless? The

K63 is my favorite keyboard on the market today. I love the keyless form factor and Cherry MX switches, and while the lack of RGB lighting is a step backwards, the lack of cables improves the look of my desk tenfold.

Sure, you’ll have to charge your keyboard every week or so — and yes, you’ll have to pay a fair amount for the privilege — but pair the K63 with a wireless mouse like the Logitech G703 and you’ve got a superb wireless battle.
