Overview

Command & Conquer, first revealed under the title «Command & Conquer: Generals 2», was being developed as a free-to-play sequel to Command & Conquer: Generals in the long-running Command & Conquer franchise. On October 29th, 2013, EA announced the cancellation of development of the game. The game was being developed by Victory Games (briefly known as BioWare Victory) using the Frostbite 2 engine, with Jon Van Caneghem, as the Executive Producer.

The game was officially unveiled with a trailer at the 2011 Spike TV Video Game Awards. It was slated to feature three factions and support both cooperative and competitive online multiplayer.

At the time the game was cancelled, it was officially considered to be in closed alpha. All players who participated in the closed alpha had their in-app purchases refunded. The final message from Victory Games, dated Oct 29, 2013, explains the reason for the cancellation was that, «[player] feedback from the alpha was clear: We are not making the game you want to play». The statement concludes by saying, «we have already begun looking at a number of alternatives to get the game back on track» and «look forward to sharing more news about the franchise as it develops.» Victory Games was shut down by EA that same day. No further information about the game has since emerged.

Factions

Command & Conquer featured three factions: the European Union, the Global Liberation Army and the Asia Pacific Alliance.

European Union

The European Union is designed to be accessible, with a range of units and abilities that should feel familiar to franchise veterans while maintaining flexibility for advanced players.

Asia Pacific Alliance

The Asia Pacific Alliance are less technology advanced than the E.U., but make for it with the ability to quickly field large quantities of low-level units.

Global Liberation Army

The Global Liberation Army is a terrorist organization who employ improvise warfare through black markets and makeshift weaponry, including suicide bombers and dirty bombs.

Step 5: Play Singleplayer!

You are now able to play Generals and Zero Hour campaigns in singleplayer!

Step 6: Play Multiplayer!

C&C Online is a community-made-and-managed online server for Generals & Zero Hour.

Note: You will need to have GenTool installed in order to play Generals & Zero Hour online. This is bundled with GenPatcher, which has been covered earlier in this guide.

Here are the steps to get your game online!

• Sign up for a C&C Online Account here.
  • Be sure to activate your account via email.
  • Your C&C Online account is also a Revora forums account.
• Once your account has been activated, login and create Server Login information on the C&C Online page:
  • Server Username
  • Server Email
  • Server Password
• Launch Generals or Zero Hour.
• In Network Options, your IP must be like it is on your Home Network in order to connect online, i.e. 192.168.x.x.
• From the game’s main menu, navigate to the online multiplayer menu and login using the C&C Online details that you created earlier.

GenPatcher and Anti-Virus Scanners

There is a chance GenPatcher gets flagged by your anti-virus as either a trojan or a virus. This is a false positive. GenPatcher is completely safe to use.

The reason anti-virus software may flag it is because GenPatcher applies fixes to your game’s Windows registry entries, as well as moving and deleting files that could cause game instability. Therefore, to be on the safe side, the anti-virus software will block GenPatcher and prevent it from running. That’s why it’s recommended to switch off your anti-virus before downloading GenPatcher to ensure you won’t run into any problems.

Known Issues

Generals & Zero Hour Crash when Alt+Tabbing in Fullscreen Mode

If you run the game in regular fullscreen (not borderless fullscreen), the game will sometimes crash when you attempt to Alt+Tab out of it. The fix for this is to use d3d8to9-wrapper, which alleviates this issue by converting all Direct3D 8-API calls and low-level shaders to equivalent Direct3D 9 ones. Note: Do not use this if you would like to play online, as using the d3d8to9-wrapper will result in increased chances of a mismatch.

1. Download the latest version of d3d8to9.
2. If you also use GenTool: rename the downloaded d3d8.dll file to d3d8x. dll to make sure you don’t overwrite GenTool’s d3d8.dll.
3. Place the file in the game directory of both Generals and Zero Hour.
4. Play the game.

Zero Hour is Censored in Germany

The German version of Zero Hour is censored. To remove the censorship:

• It is recommended to switch off your anti-virus and real-time protection to prevent your anti-virus from interfering with GenPatcher. See why.
• Download and launch GenPatcher.
• Go to the Additional Content section.

Russia can attack Ukraine from its territory, and the Belarusian direction will only distract attention, says Polish General Waldemar Skrzypczak. He is confident that right now is the time to increase military assistance to Ukraine many times over, including long-range missiles, tanks and aircraft.

Waldemar Skrzypczak is one of those Polish military experts who regularly explain to the public and politicians the essence of what is happening on the battlefields in Ukraine. Now the general is calling for maximum support for Ukraine: in his opinion, the decisive and, possibly, turning point in the war is approaching.

In 2006-2009 Waldemar Skrzypczak commanded the ground forces of the Polish army. Prior to that, he led a multinational division in Iraq, in which the Ukrainian military also served.

After leaving the post of Commander of the Ground Forces, Waldemar Skrzypczak worked as Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland. At that time, he was able to get better acquainted with the capabilities of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex and its prospects in terms of international cooperation in the production of weapons.

Waldemar Skrzypczak: There is such a possibility. After the Russians lost battles in the spring and summer, they withdrew and replenished troops in the area of ​​Bryansk, Kursk and Voronezh. Beginning in October, they rebuilt their forces there. To do this, they carry out a large mobilization. And although it is going rather chaotically, they have a reserve of 1.2 million people. Of these, 300 thousand already mobilized are undergoing appropriate training. Most of these forces are now concentrated in the region of Voronezh, Kursk, Bryansk.

I believe that Russia can attack Ukraine from this direction and from there move south, west of Kharkov, along the Vorskla River, which flows into the Dnieper. According to this scenario, Poltava and [the city of] Dnipro are under attack.

They can try to combine their forces from this direction with those who are now fighting in the east in the area of ​​Bakhmut and Soledar.

Someone thinks that the Russians will go to Kyiv again. Putin really wanted to seize the Ukrainian capital and put his governor there. But he didn’t succeed. In this sense, he has already lost this war. Putin will not be able to rule the Ukrainian people. After everything that happened, this people hated Russia. Ukrainians survived Bucha, Irpen — and how many other places are there where Russian soldiers killed Ukrainians, but these crimes are not yet known?

In my opinion, Putin is now forced to switch to a strategy of small steps. He used it in 2014 when he captured Lugansk and Donetsk. The attempt to occupy the whole country failed. Further, most likely, his target will be part of the Kharkiv region, Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. Whether he succeeds in doing this depends on you and on us, the West. We must do everything so that Ukraine can continue to repel Russian aggression and liberate its territories. The key to Ukraine’s victory is in the hands of the West.

BBC: You mean more guns? What kind of help should we talk about?

Waldemar Skrzypczak: Everything must go. I say this as a soldier. In my opinion, the assistance that Ukraine is now receiving from international partners is not enough. It is as if the doctor were giving the patient just a few drops of medicine instead of a full treatment. It should be many times more.

The Ukrainian army is now unable to deliver deep missile strikes against concentrations of Russian troops in the Russian Federation. These are strikes 300 or more kilometers deep into Russian territory. I believe that Ukraine has the right to launch such strikes against all concentrations of Russian troops that are preparing for an offensive. Thus, it is possible to disrupt preparations for an offensive on Ukrainian territory. But the Armed Forces of Ukraine cannot deliver these strikes, because they do not have the appropriate weapons — long-range missiles. They should be given to Ukraine.

Ukraine needs to transfer more tanks, armored vehicles and long-range missile systems that can fire at 300 or more kilometers as soon as possible. Because of the high probability of a new Russian offensive in the next two to three months. If this is not done, it will be difficult for Ukrainians to withstand these attacks.

Such an advantage does not mean that they will be able to defeat the Armed Forces of Ukraine. But he can allow them to seize territories in the east of the country.

BBC: How might the current fighting for Bakhmut and Soledar affect the likelihood of a new offensive from the north?

Waldemar Skrzypczak: These are related operations. Bakhmut is the gateway to other parts of Donbass. Its capture would allow reaching the Kramatorsk-Slavyansk line. And that would be enough for Putin. He would like to connect these territories with other territories in the east along the Vorskla River and the left bank of the Dnieper.

Putin is in a hurry, because the further, the more tangible will be the effect of Western sanctions. Ukraine is also in a hurry because it needs to protect itself. If Putin had achieved what he is trying to achieve, then he would probably go for a truce. But that would be a freeze of the war. The war will remain, then there will be no real peace.

BBC: What will be the consequences for the West and NATO if the current aid to Ukraine is not enough to fight off a possible new offensive?

Waldemar Skrzypchak: If this happens, we will lose Ukraine. And today, in fact, the fate of the world and, in particular, the fate of part of Europe depends on it.

The entire civilized world is rooting for Ukraine’s victory. We cannot afford to lose Ukraine. I hope that politicians in the West have fully realized this as well. We must do everything so that Ukraine does not lose, and Putin does not win this war.

Sky over Ukraine

BBC: Do you think Putin can go to war outside Ukraine?

Waldemar Skrzypczak: Do you mean confrontation with NATO?

BBC: That’s right.

Waldemar Skrzypczak: Probably not. Thanks to Ukraine — no. Putin does not have the strength and resources to get involved in another military adventure.

That is why the future of Europe today depends on Ukraine. The Russian army is so wounded and beaten that they now have to make great efforts to rebuild it and somehow win the war. But she has no chance to win just like that.

It is necessary to prepare for the fact that during a possible new offensive, Russia will use significantly more combat aircraft. Waldemar Skrzypczak: I’ll start by saying that I rule out such a scenario in principle. The Belarusian army does not want to fight with Ukraine. Ordinary Belarusians are now much more friendly to Ukrainians than Russians. If the Belarusian army could be involved in this war, then this would have happened a long time ago. Lukashenka knows this very well. The Russians took away weapons and equipment that belonged to the Belarusian army.

But an auxiliary offensive from the territory of Belarus cannot be ruled out. Could Poland somehow take part in the defense in this case? Don’t think. Because its eastern borders are also the eastern borders of NATO. In this case, the forces of the alliance would protect the skies over Poland.

In this context it is worth paying attention to another problem. This is the number of air defense systems in Europe.

Germany transferred part of its IRIS-Ts to Ukraine. She herself did not have many of these systems left. France and Italy also transferred SAMP-T systems to Ukraine. But they also have such systems is not enough.

Waldemar Skrzypczak: I myself am a tanker by profession. He commanded a division, which included a brigade of tanks «Leopard 2». I can say that this is an almost perfect weapon. From the point of view of a tanker, these vehicles have a very effective fire system and good mobility.

In a collision with these tanks, the Russians, including their vaunted «Armata», T-14, have no chance.

In addition to Poland, Europe has these tanks, for example, Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark, Spain, Germany, Greece, Hungary. If each country gave a certain number of these tanks, then two tank battalions could be formed from them [one battalion includes from 31 to 40 tanks — BBC], which could influence the course of the war with the Russian army.

BBC: So far only 14 of these tanks have been officially confirmed. 10-30 tanks can affect something?

Waldemar Skrzypczak: Ten tanks won’t change anything. This is very little. Even thirty tanks are too few. In order for Ukraine to be able to liberate its territories in the Lugansk, Donetsk, Kherson regions in the future, it needs to create its own «tank fist».

It should consist of 350-400 tanks. It is necessary for all countries to come together and give Ukraine these tanks. If there is such a fist, then the Ukrainian army will defeat the Russian one.

The US has large stocks of these tanks. They could give them to Poland, and we would give them to you.

But for this, a political decision must be made right now, because Russia is preparing for a new attack. That is why Valery Gerasimov was appointed commander of the Russian group in Ukraine. The plan of attack is almost ready, as is their army. When and where exactly they will attack — only they themselves know. But they have a plan.

BBC: Do you think the Russian army can learn from its mistakes?

Waldemar Skshipchak: The Ukrainian army taught them a strong lesson. They realized that they were dealing with a strong army with real motivation and fighting spirit. It is also well organized and well managed. The Russians could learn a lot from the Ukrainians this year.

The cost of this lesson is the lives of about 100,000 Russian soldiers. They themselves wanted it.

Ukrainians also learned a lot during this time. They gained combat experience in the Lugansk and Donetsk regions, but the entire Ukrainian army is fighting for the first time right now.

Ukraine will also receive combat aircraft from NATO. These will be F-15 or F-16 fighters. Ukrainian pilots are already learning to fly them. They will be well prepared for combat with Russian pilots.

But Ukraine no longer has time to wait. Politicians earn points, but for the real military, the main value is life.

I have great respect for the Ukrainian military. We served shoulder to shoulder with them in Iraq. I commanded a division there, which included a Ukrainian brigade.

Liberation of the territories

BBC: Now there is a lot of discussion in Ukraine whether it will be able to return the Crimea — to reconquer, deoccupy its territory and reintegrate it. In your opinion, what does it depend on and is it possible to do it by military means?

Waldemar Skrzypczak: There can be no discussion on this issue. The Russian Empire will fall apart. She won’t be anymore. And when Russia weakens even more, Ukraine will have the opportunity to join NATO. Straightaway. No unnecessary discussion.

Russia must be so weak that it can no longer threaten the world and Europe with nuclear weapons and war.

Politicians were afraid of Russia. We, the military, were never afraid of her.
