Cyberpunk 2077 players have been searching for The Witcher’s Ciri in the game from day one, and some think they’ve now spotted a fairly sneaky reference to the character in one of the game’s endings.
Mild spoilers for one Cyberpunk 2077 ending follow — proceed at your own risk!

As pointed out on Nintendo Smash, the endgame quest All Along the Watchtower (check out our Cyberpunk 2077 guide for how to reach it) begins with V waking up on top of the Badlands Dam, and seeing a bird perch on the open car window.

That bird looks and sounds like a barn swallow — in the world of the Witcher, ‘Swallow’ is the Elvish-English translation of ‘Zireael’, from which Ciri’s name derives (and is the name of the silver sword given to her by Geralt in The Witcher 3).
That might seem to be a coincidence, but Cyberpunk 2077 makes very clear that there are no birds in or around Night City. A shard (the game’s name for text logs) titled «Avian Extermination Act» makes clear why:

«In the face of increasingly frequent and deadly zoonotic disease outbreaks, the City Council has decided that the most effective method for reducing the risk of infection among residents is via the extermination of all avian life within 18 miles of city limits.»

LoadingThat makes the appearance of a living bird in the game particularly notable, and one with such close association to Ciri feels like a deliberate choice to some fans. There’s no sign yet from CD Projekt Red as to whether that is actually the case — it’s very much a fan theory at this point.

As for why players have been specifically looking for Ciri in Night City — that comes down to a set of lines she speaks in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Ciri describes a world she hid in to escape the titular Hunt, saying: «People there had metal in their heads, waged war from a distance, using things similar to megascopes. And there were no horses, everyone had their own flying ships instead.»

Many have taken that to mean she arrived in Night City. Cyberpunk 2077 director Adam Badowski previously said he was against the idea of crossing the worlds over, despite many on the team hoping to include Ciri in the game — it could well be that this reference was the compromise.

Even if it’s a total coincidence, Ciri does make another appearance in the game — albeit in the form of the cover star on a retro gaming magazine found in the Cyberpunk’s prologue for Corpo players.LoadingMany have wondered if Ciri will be the lead in the Witcher game due to begin development after Cyberpunk’s release. It may well be a while before we find out, however, as Cyberpunk itself clearly has a long way to go.

After the poor state of the game on consoles at launch, CD Projekt has committed to a number of updates to fix the game by February, after which it will receive free DLC and paid expansions and, eventually, a multiplayer mode. Considering you can’t even buy the game digitally on PlayStation right now, it’s likely going to be a long road until we get even a chance of seeing CD projekt’s take on Ciri in person again.

Cyberpunk 2077 has a hidden easter egg of Ciri from The Witcher 3 for players to find. But where is this Witcher-inspired easter egg, and what is it?

CyberPunk 2077 has an Easter Egg early on in the game that references The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Ciri. CD Projekt Red, the developers behind Cyberpunk 2077, are also the creators of The Witcher video game series. In fact, The Witcher was CD Projekt Red’s first original game, so it’s no surprise developers would want to pay homage to Geralt of Rivia and his companions.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt centers around Geralt of Rivia. Geralt is a witcher, a sterile mutant who hunts monsters for a living. Ciri is a princess who is like a daughter to Geralt, and he spends the majority of The Witcher 3 trying to catch up with her, slaying everything from wraiths to werewolves along the way. While both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 were developed by CD Projekt Red, it’s difficult to imagine how characters from the latter might be found in the futuristic title.

When players first begin Cyberpunk 2077, they’ll have to pick one of three paths. Each life path in Cyberpunk 2077 creates a background story for the game’s protagonist, V, and one of these paths leads pretty directly to the Ciri easter egg. The Nomad path gives the player a background story as an outcast in the outskirts of the city. The Street Kid Life path starts players off in Heywood, an area infested with violence and gangs. To find The Witcher 3’s Ciri easter egg in Cyberpunk 2077 quickly, players will need to choose the Corpo path.

The Corpo path in Cyberpunk 2077 gives players a backstory as a counter-intelligence officer at a massive corporation known as Arasaka. Players who choose the Corpo path will find Ciri’s easter egg in Cyberpunk 2077 early on. While in V’s office, players will get a chance to poke around. Inside one of V’s desk drawers, players will see a magazine called Retro Gaming, which displays Ciri wielding a sword on the cover and names The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as the game of the month.

While the magazine is an adorable reference to The Witcher series, it should also quell any speculations that characters from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will make an appearance in-game. Clearly, much like reality, The Witcher 3 is a game in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Fans of The Witcher 3 have long hoped to bump into Ciri in Cyberpunk 2077 after hearing Ciri describe a world where she hid from the Wild Hunt as a place where people had metal in their heads and traveled by flying ships. Ciri’s line was clearly a nod to Cyberpunk 2077. However, it appears all players will find of Ciri in Cyberpunk 2077 is a magazine cover.

While CDPR fans are waiting for new major updates and story additions to Cyberpunk 2077, they were shown new footage from Night City, which lit up Cirilla, the main character of the legendary game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . Fans of the Polish developers have discovered that now one of the favorite characters of The Witcher 3 has become playable in a futuristic action game. Netizens began posting various screenshots from Cyberpunk 2077 with Ciri. Some of them tried to recreate the outfit of the heroine from The Witcher 3 using the clothes of the future. Others decided to experiment and imagine what kind of clothes a student of Geralt of Rivia would wear if she lived in the era of cyberpunk. Some gamers also felt that Ciri in Night City would not have gone with ashy hair color and would have dyed it in a more futuristic color.

New footage of Ciri in Cyberpunk 2077 appeared thanks to a mod by a fan named AlvarixPT. He released a mod called Ciri Swap for V — Hair for V. It changes the appearance of the main character of the action V to the appearance of Ciri from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. In addition, the author of the modification added a new hairstyle to the game. She completely repeats the haircut of adult Ciri in The Witcher 3. Now many gamers go through Cyberpunk 2077 for their favorite heroine and publish screenshots showing each other how they decided to dress up Geralt’s student in Night City.

Modification with the appearance and hairstyle of Ciri from The Witcher 3 is available for free on the official website of the project. You can install the mod on any version of Cyberpunk 2077.
