Rockstar Games’ classic, GTA San Andreas, made its debut on Nintendo Switch recently and fans are looking for cheats.

As part of the Definitive Edition trilogy, San Andreas is probably the most iconic of the three titles. Released back in 2005, San Andreas has drawn a massive fan following, receiving two different editions in under two decades. Is the Definitive Edition trilogy playable on switch?

While the Definitive Edition of the 3D era GTA games has been buggy, the developers have been pushing updates to fix issues faced at launch. Although playability has improved and game-breaking bugs have gone down since launch, the remasters are far from perfect. The most common bug plaguing San Andreas on Switch is broken street lights clipping through the ground. One can only hope that the developers iron out these issues with time.

Brief Introduction

Back in 2006, having received the coveted video card with 128 MB of memory, I immediately decided to install the 3 most interesting games for me, which I really wanted to play. They included:

NFS Underground 2
GTA: San Andreas

All 3 games left the best impression, and Ruler is still played, even if not on ruoff servers. Well, of course, we will talk about the last one, which I consistently go through once every 2-3 years, steadily.

Ah shit, here we go again

I am sure that many, having launched San Andreas initially, did not run to complete the very first task, but simply rode around Los Santos on a bicycle, stealing a car along the way in order to explore the city, chase cops, or just make a fuss, so thereby depriving yourself of most of the various side effects.

So was I, and this action was one of the best decisions of the developers, to give freedom (albeit for one city, until you go through the story a little further) almost immediately after the launch of the game. So it was in the troika, so it was in Vice City, and so it remained in the further parts of the great car thief.

Already after I found out about the closed 2 cities and a bunch of different side effects that cannot be opened without missions, I started to complete tasks. The plot may be trite, but not without its charm, and the 12-year-old me was absorbed in the history of Carl Johnson and the Green Grove gang, which we will have to raise again from rags to riches.

Over the years, the story is by no means boring, but has become more comprehensible in some aspects. The same story of Catalina and her crazy calls became clear to me only after 6 long years, when I decided to go through San Andreas again. There are many such examples, but I’m not really going to stretch this text to a «witcher’s longread».

Clothing, rocking chair and other joys of character customization

So, who’s the Boss of the area?

It may seem strange to some, but after the second Underground, I really wanted games where customization of a character / car / something depended not on the conditions of the game, but on the whim of the player — San Andreas coped with it with a bang!

Yes, in the 3rd part and in Vice City there are both costumes and character skins. But the costumes disappeared after death, and for a 12-year-old coolhacker with the Internet, in which each megabyte cost a certain amount of money, it was very difficult to search, download, and even more so — install.

In San Andreas you could make CJ a real green street thug, or you could make a clown in shorts. They could also throw a tracksuit on him and put on a helmet for the rest of the game, which is very amusing in some cutscenes.

Well, San Andreas is the first game in the series where there is an external tuning of cars, which for a kid who has just passed the Underground is a mandatory standard, without which any game is not very good.

Exploring the world and its diversity

As far as I remember, the wasteland between 3 cities was caused not by the personal desire of the developers, but by the technical limitations of the Playstation 2, but as for me, this even played a plus in the game itself.

From the annoying city you can move to local villages, you can jump from the mountains, there is where to accelerate on various planes — this adds a huge amount of time and replay value in general, which allows you to return to such a cozy gangster adventure.

Community games, and of course — memes

Surprisingly, in 2006 I did not find that very spent translation, but I already knew about the «Ukrainian» translation

San Andreas still lives a very lively life, many people still play multiplayer SAMP, preferring it higher than online part 5 (which is quite strange for me), the community is still riveting various mods, graphics improvements, well or their individual assemblies.

One of them came into my hands and sounded like «Tokyo Drift», although I did not know about the original film then, but the disc with 3-4 missions was completed with a bang, because there were supra, nissan and other cars that were not was in San Andreas. San Andreas still plays great even now, even though the outdated graphics may catch your eye on widescreen monitors. Yes, this can be fixed by some build with retexturing of the game, but I would not do this, since frequent crashes even in tested builds are a very common occurrence.

Streets of the Green Grove takes precisely with its atmosphere and freedom that it gives the player, and the players, even in our time, appreciate it more than anything else.

P.S.

If you suddenly want to buy the version from Steam — this is not the best idea. I don’t call for piracy, but the game will have to be patched very well in order to return all the cut music (no one has canceled copyright) and very strange patch notes to worsen the graphic component of the game.

Arcade games in GTA: San Andreas

Slot machines

Bars, clubs and shops often have slot machines. By approaching them, you can play one of the four arcade games.

Duality

This is a rather unusual game. In Duality, you have to destroy the black spheres and avoid the white ones. Destroying a large black sphere adds 10 points, white — takes away the same amount. Hitting a small black orb reduces your score by 5, and hitting a small white one increases it (also by 5). Each shot costs 1 point.

There are two indicators on the screen. Green shows how much power is left in the boosters. Over time, he recovers. To speed up the process, try to hit the white sphere.

The red indicator shows the level of damage to your ship, which breaks from collisions with large black spheres and recovers from contact with white ones. The game ends when the red indicator disappears (the ship breaks completely).

Go Go Space Monkey

A classic horizontal (two-dimensional) shooter. Controlling a monkey, you need to destroy the maximum number of enemies and avoid damage. A collision with a spaceship, a projectile or anything else means the loss of one life (at the beginning of the game you have three of them).

After the destruction of one group of ships, the symbol «S» will appear on the screen. Having picked it up, the monkey will shoot more often and more powerfully. When the next portion of enemies turns to dust, you will have a chance to pick up the letter «M», and then — and «A». After the third «upgrade» you will be able to destroy opponents by simply holding the shoot button.

Let’s Get Ready to Bumble

The objective of this game is to collect all the flowers in the level within a limited time while avoiding the thorns. In the lower corner of the screen, there is a number indicating how many flowers you have left to collect. Beware of spikes, contact with them means loss of life. Collection time is limited. When it expires, you lose a life and go to the nearest leaf on the screen.

At each next level, you need to collect 10 flowers more than the previous one, and the time for this is getting less and less.

They Crawled from Uranus

In this game with an extremely ambiguous name (those who know English will understand) you have to shoot spaceships. Of course, the victims snarl in response, and every hit takes away 20% of your health.

The game starts with three lives and 100% health. If health drops to zero, you lose a life. Destroying each portion of enemies gives you an item. After collecting three objects, you will move on to the next level, where enemies bring more points.

Dancing

The disco in Los Santos has been open since the beginning of the game. There is a red marker in the hall, with which you can start a dance mini-game. This arcade game does not affect anything, and was added just for fun (although it will have to be completed during the «Life’s a Beach» story mission).

Just like in the popular console game Dance Dance Revolution , you have to quickly press the keys in a certain sequence. This should be done exactly at the moment when the next arrow with the direction moves to the circle at the bottom of the screen.

Billiards

First you need to find an available pool table and an opponent. After talking to him and making a bet, you can start playing. In short, the rules of «8-Ball» are as follows: the balls must be rolled into the pockets in a strictly defined order. Conventionally, all the balls can be divided into two types: striped and colored entirely. A separate participant in the game is the “eight”.

The first player to pocket a colored ball must continue to pocket balls of the same type, while the opponent receives balls of a different type. The last rolled «eight». If your opponent does it first, you will lose. Mistakes are subject to various penalties.

Basketball

There are many basketball courts in San Andreas. On many you will see the ball lying directly on the ground. Pick it up, hold down the run key to jump with the ball in your hands, and shoot by releasing the button. In addition, CJ can perform some tricks with the ball: when you press the left mouse button (or left Ctrl), he will spin the ball on his finger, and with the help of the «space» — he will roll it over his shoulders.

After a successful roll, the marker will appear in a different location. When the time allotted for throws expires, the competition will end, but you will not get anything.

This type of gambling does not require any special skills from the player. All you have to do is bet on one of the five horses in the race. The betting machine is located in Montgomery, Red County; the second is in Los Santos, under the Mulholland intersection. We marked them on our state map.

The less chance the horse has to win, the bigger the payout. Sometimes the winnings reach 12 to 1. By placing a bet, you can immediately find out the results of the race and take the money if you win.

After flying up to one of the victims, use the weapons installed on board.
