Bungie roadmap: The Witch Queen and beyond

The Witch Queen and beyond

Bungie’s TWABs (short for “This Week at Bungie” blog posts) are always a great read, but their yearly game updates, ViDocs, and live events are even better.

It has to be said that Bungie is one of the most transparent AAA developers out there, and the amount of information they share about Destiny’s future is impressive.

But as always, it’s hard to keep track of all the upcoming features, and promised changes and remember what is coming when. Hopefully, this visual version of Destiny 2’s roadmap will help you stay on top Destiny 2’s roadmap:

February 22, 2022

Year 5: The Witch Queen

Season of the Risen (S16)

Pivotal role for Ikora Rey

From Bungie’s Destiny 2021 Update:

Some of you have noticed that Ikora Rey has not been nearly as present recently in Destiny 2. We’ve missed her as well. Not only will you see Ikora again in Season 14, she will be playing a pivotal role in The Witch Queen.

Gambit rework

In Season of the Risen, Gambit has gone through several reworks and changes, including the addition of Gambit: Labs weekends.

The latest Lab was revealed on April 21’s TWAB:

Invasion Swaps went off well, giving us great data and feedback on Mote dunking, invasion cadence, and primeval healing in a world where you invited opponents onto your playing field when hitting certain thresholds. For this edition of Labs, we’ll be experimenting with Mote Thieves starting on April 26.

The jury is still out and more changes will continue to come but the vast majority of the community agrees that Gambit remains in a sorry state…

Weapon crafting

Weapon crafting makes it’s official debut! More information here.

Void 3.0

Season of the Risen marked the debut of the revised 3.0 Subclasses with the introduction of Void 3.0. Mimicking the same setup and customization as Stasis, Void 3.0 also offers an extremely powerful toolkit with insane ability uptime.

Season of the Haunted

Season 17

Iron Banner rework

Season 17 will see a significant change to the loot system for the Iron Banner PVPV “endgame” mode. This should mimic the system recently introduced to Gambit or Trials of Osiris. This overhaul has been teased several times. From April 7’s TWAB:

While we’re planning a larger TWAB to cover upcoming changes, our one piece of advice to you this week is to spend your Iron Banner tokens, complete your Iron Banner quest, and redeem your Iron Banner bounties. We have some updates to Saladin and how he’ll be dishing out rewards, which naturally leads to the retirement of Iron Banner tokens and bounties.

New Dungeon

Bungie has confirmed multiple times that one new Dungeon will be released on Season 17. The last time it did, was on April 14’s TWAB:

Each Season, the newly released raid and dungeon will grant Pinnacle rewards for all encounters. As an example, in Season 17, Vow of the Disciple and the upcoming [REDACTED] dungeon.

This Dungeon will not be free-to-play and is part of The Witch Queen’s Deluxe edition. It will also become available for purchase separately. We’ll learn more as we get closer to its release.

Brand-new PVP map

In Season 17, Bungie will finally break its 2-year dry spell without a new PVP map! As announced by Joe Blackburn, Destiny 2’s Game Director:

After reprised maps in season 16, season 17 will come with a brand-new map. There are a bunch of new environments in Destiny 2, and we’re excited to start bringing them into the crucible.

Raids & Dungeons rotator

Season 17 will see the introduction of a rotating system for raids and dungeons. From April 14’s TWAB:

Each Season, the newly released raid and dungeon will grant Pinnacle rewards for all encounters. As an example, in Season 17, Vow of the Disciple and the upcoming [REDACTED] dungeon. Outside of these, we’ll have a raid rotator and a dungeon rotator, each offering a Pinnacle reward once completed.

For those wondering about the weekly rotation, this particular inclusion will have a chance to feature all raids and dungeons not listed as the Seasonal rotation. Want to revisit the Vex in Garden of Salvation? Do it! Want to go toe-to-toe with Riven because you like to feel hungry for that wildly impressive (and stressful as all heck for players like me that are prone to panic) final encounter? Weird, but get on with yo’ brave and Light-driven self. Get that bread.

Solar 3.0

Bungie promised that all three Light Subclasses will be getting the 3.0 overhaul in Year 5. One Subclass per season, in consecutive seasons.

Season 17 features Solar 3.0.

Season of Plunder

Season 18

New «classic» Raid

Bungie has confirmed that in Year 5, there will be either a new dungeon or a new/reprised raid each Season.

We already know Season 18 will feature a “classic” raid, which means that another Destiny 1 raid should make its return. From Bungie’s 2021 Livestream:

We’re also going to be remastering another classic Destiny 1 raid and releasing it free for all players.

Raids being the ultimate Destiny 2 experience, we’re glad to get up to two new raids each year!

D1 remastered PVP map

In Season 18, Bungie will continue its efforts with the remastering of a Destiny 2 map! As also announced by Joe Blackburn, Destiny 2’s Game Director:

Finally, after those 3 maps are added to the rotation in 16 and 17, we will be remastering a Destiny 1 map and bringing it to Destiny 2 for the first time in season 18.

New Crucible mode

The Crucible will finally receive a brand-new game mode, called Eruption. Eruption is Clash with energy boosts based on kill streaks.

During Eruption, killing your opponents scores one point and a normal amount of energy. After that, when you get your second elimination in a row without dying (assists count too!), you become “Surging.”

  • You start lightly glowing.
  • Kills start generating 10% Super energy and 20% grenade, melee, and class energy.
  • You score 2 points per kill.

You can read all about it here.

Arc 3.0

Bungie promised that all three Light Subclasses will be getting the 3.0 overhaul in Year 5. One Subclass per season, in consecutive seasons.

Season 18 will feature Arc 3.0. We already know a lot about this via Bungie’s dedicated post.

Return of SBMM

Season 18 will mark the return of SBMM or Skill-based Matchmaking. You can read more about it here.

Season of [Redacted]

Season 19

New Dungeon

Bungie has confirmed that in Year 5, there will be either a new dungeon or (new/reprised) raid per Season. These should alternate.

With a “classic” raid planned for Season 18, Season 19 should feature a new dungeon. This makes sense as we already know The Witch Queen will feature 2 new dungeons, as clearly stated in the game’s Deluxe edition:

Deluxe Edition

  • Exotic SMG, Catalyst, and Ornament
  • Access to Seasons 16, 17, 18, and 19
  • 2 Dungeons Released in Year 5
  • Throne World Exotic Sparrow
New PVP game modes

Finally, after the release of reprised, remastered and brand-new maps, Bungie aims to close the year with the introduction of new game modes. As also announced by Joe Blackburn, Destiny 2’s Game Director:

First, the team is investigating getting Rift in Destiny 2 next year. It’s been too long since we’ve dunked on some guardians. The Destiny Sandbox has sped up in Destiny 2, so right now the team is validating that the mode still holds up with our new gameplay.

Second, the team is working on multiple brand-new modes for 2022. We aren’t quite ready to spoil these yet, but we’re excited to offer new twists and rules to the ways you can make shaxx proud.

New «Glory» PVP system

Bungie’s competitive system, aka, the Glory playlist, will finally receive a much-needed overhaul. From March 31’s TWAB:

For the Season 19 release, we are taking a pass on Glory and how players engage with it in the Crucible. What playlists offer Glory? How do players earn it? What does “becoming legend” look like? While we can’t answer any of these questions just yet, we wanted to plant a flag in the sand for the timeframe.

There are, however, other things to complete before the next season arrives…

The Season of the Seraph is here alongside More than a Weapon, Seraph Key Codes and Resonate Stems and the addition of Rose in Crucible.

You can also complete the Good Boy Protocol secret quest to make a new friend.

We’ve also seen a new dungeon, Spire of the Watcher, with has a chance of Hierarchy of Needs dropping upon completion.

Earliear this year we had the arrival of King’s Fall and King’s Fall challenges, plus weapons including Doom of Chelchis and Touch of Malice.

For The Witch Queen, learn how to get Dead Messenger and Parasite.

What should you do before Season of the Seraph ends?

As with every season, there’s a checklist of things to do before the season concludes. This includes:

  • Claiming any seasonal titles you have earned.
  • Watch the ending of the seasonal storyline. Usually, this doesn’t require you to complete the season-long quest — for Season 18, this was Sails of the Shipstealer — and though this will be playable until Lightfall and Year 6 begins, this ending expired when Season 19 arrived.

The Season of Plunder finale cutscene.

  • Reaching Legend rank in any matchmade activities — Crucible, Gambit or Strikes — and redeeming their vendor specific rewards.
  • Redeeming any remaining season pass rewards across all classes.
  • Having some completed Bounties ready, as well as maxing out relevant materials and Glimmer, to give you a head start for the start of next season.

With until the end of February to get everything you need, there should hopefully be plenty of time. Enjoy your space buccaneering in the meantime!

The most valid points for bungee jumping

Crossing a suspension bridge or climbing a tower is not a task for the faint of heart. Climbing to the top and finding the courage to look down is an even more difficult task. There are such daredevils who climb to a height and do with a fantastic goal — to jump down. Bungee jumping can be safely called one of the most extreme entertainment, which cannot be compared with modern rides and dangerous sports. The essence of entertainment is incredibly simple, just fasten the insurance, go to the edge of the jump area and not resist gravity. Big fans of entertainment in search of the best bungee sites are ready to go to the ends of the world. Jumping from a great height is much more interesting if a fast-moving river rustles below or the sharp peaks of rocks eerily shine in the sun.
nine0003

Currently, the highest bungee jumping site is located in the United States, in the small town of Canyon City. It is here that the famous Royal Gorge Bridge is located, it runs over the Arkansas River at an altitude of 321 meters. A huge height, a seething river below and a strong wind — not everyone dares to even cross the suspension bridge, being on it is incredibly scary.

The legendary bridge is known for a series of tragic events. It attracts not only thrill-seekers, but also people who decide to commit suicide. The city authorities are doing everything possible to make the barriers on the bridge impenetrable, but year after year, suicides still choose the Royal George Bridge. As for extreme athletes, many of them are ready to go a long way for the sake of a six-second jump into the abyss.
nine0003

To make the whole uniqueness of entertainment even more understandable, we can say that jumping from a bridge is similar to jumping from the roof of a 90-story skyscraper. It is important to note that the jump does not take place from the bridge itself, but from a specially equipped platform, which is located at a height of 290 meters. Those who dare to have fun should in no case close their eyes during the jump. For six seconds, they will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the Arkansas River and its surrounding mountain landscapes. Next — Navajo Bridge

In 2018, Bungie registered a new trademark — Matter . Then many suggested that this could be a new project of the legendary developers, but the studio did not provide any details. nine0003

At the same time, she said that she wants to become «one of the best entertainment companies in the world» by 2025, promising to release at least one new game in seven years that is not related to the Destiny franchise.

Today netizens have turned their attention to a curious fact — Bungie has started to openly seek employees to work on its next IP . In particular, the company needs a designer who will be responsible for some aspects of the game economy. nine0003

«You are the link between the blade and the reward. You will work with our systems and economy to design items and how they will fall into the hands of the players. You will live in the wilds of a giant database filled with thousands of values. Weapons and armor — they are your best friends, and your best friend is the system that will be able to supply all these treasures to the necromancer’s lairs,» reads the job description.

Potential candidate is required to have experience in creating and maintaining loot systems and similar fundamental mechanics inherent in RPGs .

Based on all this, it can be assumed that currently Bungie is working on a certain RPG . And if the description of the vacancy is at least somewhat close to reality, then the future game is based on the usual fantasy canons . Perhaps this is just the same Matter.

One thing is certain — the new project is definitely created for the next generation of consoles, namely PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X . nine0003

In the meantime, Bungie continues to develop its service shooter Destiny 2 , which will soon receive a major content update.

After ending its publishing relationship with Activision, Bungie has entered into a deal with Chinese corporation NetEase .
