Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 Ohms Review
Gaming headsets are good but sometimes they lack what well-known audio companies have which is good quality audio. Gaming headsets tend to sacrifice in some areas like sound quality to keep the price down and to make space for the microphone. Getting headphones solely for gaming and music listening is the better choice because they don’t skimp on audio quality.
Today, we are going to check out the DT770 Pro 80 Ohms from Beyerdynamic. They are no stranger when it comes to audio. They are the oldest audio company which was founded in 1924. In this review, Let’s see if the DT770 Pro might be your new pair of cans and potentially replace your old gaming headset.
UNBOXING and FIRST IMPRESSIONS
UNBOXING
The Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 Ohms’s packaging is very simple. On the front of the box, we can see the product name along with a photo of the headphone itself.
Upon opening the box, The headset itself is not protected by any foam which raises a concern that the headphones might get damaged during shipping but happy to report that the unit is in perfect condition. The other contents inside the box aside from the headphones are the pouch, some documentation and a 1/4″ or 6.35 gold plated adapter.

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY
The DT770 Pro 80 ohms carries the traditional Beyerdynamic design which is present on their other lineup. The DT770 Pro 80 Ohms uses a lot of metal and steel which you can clearly on the yokes and the band itself. It also uses a thick layer of very durable hard plastic on the earcups. The cable running thru the earcups is protected and covered by a leather pad with very thick padding (which is removable). The wire which connects the two earcups are quite exposed which is the typical Beyerdynamic’s design. I am not generally a fan of that kind of design due to potential issues that might happen.
The cable here that connects the source is a non-removable and it’s quite long which is around 3 meters. The other end has a 3.5mm jack and they also included a 6.5m adapter to be use in certain amps or amp/dac.
The earpads they used here are velour which quite soft and they also have a bit of padding on the driver area of the pads in case your ears rest on the drivers itself and not on the pads. And they are removable and washable. Overall, the DT770 Pro 80 Ohms screams quality and this is a German-crafted one so expect high quality.

The setup we used here is composed of the Schiit stack which is the Asgard and Bifrost Uber and also a Fiio E10k AMP/DAC to power up the DT770 Pro 80 Ohms. And also, the headphones required a lot of power due to its 80 Ohms impedance. We also used the Hifiman HE-350 as a comparison for during our testing.

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm’s sound signature is V-shaped where it has an elevated bass and treble with the mids are recessed.
MANILA GREY – Friends of Friends
The bass are very pronounced and the mids here are recessed but not as drowned as other v-shaped headphones I’ve tried. The vocals aren’t bad, I can still hear the artist well despite the sound signature of the headphones.
Apink – %% (Eung Eung)
The highs aren’t bad. I was expecting to be very sibilant, but I was wrong. It has a good treble with slight sibilance. It is good enough for me, but some may not like it.
GAMING AND IMAGING
Even they are not geared towards gaming, The DT770 Pro is quite a contender. It performs very well during gaming. Audio is quite superb especially those cinematic type of games and sound cues are also good as well. I can accurately pinpoint gunshots and footsteps when playing Rainbow Six Siege.
SOUNDSTAGE AND ISOLATION
So far, I am impressed on the soundstage of this headphone. It is a bit wider than I expected. Most closed-back headphones are very tight and close in terms of soundstage. This one is a recommendation from me.
As a closed-back headphone, the isolation here is quite good. This is a good choice for people who wants to use this on a noisy environment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The DT770 Pro 80 Ohms requires enough power to have an enjoyable listening session. With a resistance of 80 Ohms, you may require or not require an amplifier to get the most out of these headphones. It performed decently when plugged directly on my PC. With the Fiio E10k, it sounded a better. The final test is using the Schiit Stack I have here. I was able to achieve the best sound among the three but keep that in mind that the stack is quite expensive. To make short, achieve the best possible sound of the headphones is adding an amp to it.
COMFORT
The DT770 Pro 80 Ohms are quite comfortable set of cans. I wore them for hours and didn’t feel any discomfort and fatigue but take note that I remove them from time to time to let my ears breath. The top band also has enough padding which rest on the top of my head. The velour pads are decent, Not as soft as other pads but not as stiff as my Hifiman HE-350 stock pads. Overall, my rate on comfort is 8/10.
CONCLUSION
The DT770 Pro 80 Ohms is a very good and fun sounding headphones. I can clearly understand why a lot of popular streamers like Ninja prefer these. It can be good for people who likes to listen bass-heavy songs, and this is also a good choice for gamers who wants to hear an audiophile quality sound than a typical gaming headset that offers in the market. Aside from the superb quality, the build quality here is very good with steel and metal all around it. It screams quality.
Even though this headset is quite impressive, but I have some things to point out. The cable is one of the gripes I had. I hope Beyerdynamic would change the cable to a detachable one. I had issues with cables that are non-removable. And the exposed wire isn’t my thing and I had a previous headset (HyperX Cloud) that got cut due to this design. But nonetheless, I would recommend the DT770 Pro 80 Ohms for gamers who wants to explore on the world of audiophile headphones. I am giving it my Lason-Worthy Award and the Gold Award for its superb quality and price.

So, you’re in the market for high-end headphones and you’ve been looking at different makes and models.
Apart from the usual specs like dB, type (closed or open back), etc, you’ve probably noticed that they also have an ohm rating.
But what does that mean? And why do the same models have multiple Ohm ratings?
Let’s go over what Ohms are, what the differences in Ohm ratings are, and how they impact the sound.

What is Impedance?
The first thing to know is what Ohms are. Basically, Ohms are the amount of impedance the headphones have.
Impedance is the resistance and reactivity to an electrical current present in the headphones. A low impedance, or low Ohms, means less resistance, and high Ohms means high resistance.
There are three levels of impedance:
Low Impedance – 16 — 32 Ohm. Headphones in this range work well with devices that have weak built-in amplifiers like phones, laptops, etc.
High Impedance – 100 Ohm and above. High impedance headphones require more power, usually from an external amp, to work properly and can even benefit from higher voltages.
Gray Area – 32 – 100 Ohm. Headphones in this range will require power according to their sensitivity rating. A high sensitivity, 91dB for example, will mean that the headphones will need more power.
How Does the Ohm Rating Affect Sound Quality?
Now that you have a better understanding of Ohm, let’s look at how it influences the sound.

At 80 Ohm, the headphones have more bass and less prominent treble. At higher volumes, 80 Ohm will produce even more bass.
The 250 Ohm version has a similar bass response but has more high-end to even the sound out more. It also has a bit more mid-bass and sub-bass roll-off.
What does this mean for your experience?
With its better bass output, the 80 Ohm version is better suited for listening for enjoyment. You’ll be getting more out of 80 Ohm while listening to music or gaming.
If you’re looking for headphones for studio work, the 250 Ohm pair will be better with its wider frequency response.
This is important for the critical listening involved with recording and mixing audio.
Amp and a DAC
While both 80 and 250 Ohm headphones will benefit from an amp, you’ll be able to get a lot more out of the 250 Ohm version with one. I’d recommend getting an amp for 250 Ohm headphones.
DACs (Digital to Analog Converter) are present in basically every device that plays audio. Your phone, laptop, iPad, they all have built-in DACs.
The DAC or soundcard in your device might not be powerful enough, however. In that case, you’ll need to get an external one.
If the headphones aren’t loud enough, the audio crackles or there’s noise, or the overall quality is just bad, then you’ll definitely need a DAC.
