FPS games – or first-person shooters, if you prefer – have long been a staple in gaming. Whether you prefer to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, older-generation machines, or on PC, you’ll notice that a vast chunk of your back catalogue will place you in the boots of a hero, gun in hand, fending off wave-after-wave of blood-hungry enemies. There’s something very comforting in saving the world with hot lead and gunpowder, right?

So flick off the safety, slam another magazine of ammo into your favourite rifle and hunker down – we’re about to list the most essential games for any first-person shooter fanatic out there.

Best FPS games 2023

We’ll be updating this list of best FPS games as new games come out. In no particular order, here are some of the games you should be blasting through.

  • Prodeus
  • Escape From Tarkov
  • Valorant
  • Titanfall 2
  • Apex Legends
  • Metal: Hellsinger
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)
  • Doom Eternal

1.

Prodeus

Faster and more intense than most of the other games on this list, Prodeus combines old-school FPS design with the fidelity you would expect from a modern-day shooter. The mix is intoxicating and turning enemies into a meaty paste is about as satisfying as you would expect.

Interesting weapon design – including a pinched-from-Doom appearance of genre-favourite the Super Shotgun – and a distinction look are further

Several of the games on this list are multiplayer focused or have big open worlds. Prodeus is all about linear solo play, and is a perfect companion piece for Doom Eternal, for two solid campaigns of unmitigated, unrelenting, violence.

2.

Escape From Tarkov

Do you like misery? Do you like skirmishes that require as much brainpower as gun skill? Escape From Tarkov is where all the finer, grittier details of the FPS genre meet. Battlestate Games opened up the hardcore survival-shooter as a beta back in 2017, and has been steadily updating the game with new features since.

Playing as either a PMC or BEAR operative, players are tasked with entering different zones of Tarkov – a fictional region in Russia – to complete missions, retrieve valuable loot and extract before the timer runs out. This means competing with other players and a host of NPC factions, and if you die in the raid you’ll lose everything you brought in with you.

What lands Escape from Tarkov on this list is the level of detail that goes into every single element of the beta. The game features an intricate weapons modding system where you can customize every element of your gun before taking it into a raid, while the in-depth ballistics system means you’ll need to consider your loadout down to the very bullet.

It can be a steep learning curve, but this attention to detail culminates in intense firefights that can cost you everything. There are few games that manage to make every second of combat feel consequential, but Escape From Tarkov ensures that you’ll never feel more alive as you fight to keep it that way.

3. Valorant

If there’s an FPS game worth mastering in 2022, Valorant is hard to beat. A team-based (PC-only) game so colourfully immersive you’ll feel like you’re bounding off the pages of a graphic novel, it requires real invention, too.

Think of it like American Football, only instead of working together to place a pigskin behind the opposition team’s goalposts, it’s a bomb behind enemy lines, which you must plant or defuse depending on whether your team is attack or defence. Granted, it’s basically the same premise of Counter-Strike, but truthfully it’s so much more, boasting enough magic and sci-fi like weaponry to rival the MCU.

Each agent has a unique set of skills and abilities reflecting their strength on the map, and the more time you spend experimenting on the game then the more likely it is that you will find a character whose skills complement your own. As stylish as it is satisfying, you won’t find many shooters as sharp as this one.

4.

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2. Credit: Respawn Entertainment

Before the former Call of Duty devs at Respawn Entertainment surprised everyone with their extremely popular battle royale game Apex Legends, they tried breaking into the FPS space with Titanfall, a futuristic shooter in which players took control of highly acrobatic, wall-running pilots and their titans — gigantic combat mechs capable of stomping aforementioned pilots beneath their humongous heels. Titanfall was well-received, but the series really hit its stride when Titanfall 2 was released in 2016.

So how did the sequel to the 2014 sleeper hit become one of the best (and most underrated) FPS games of the previous generation? Simply put, it iterated on and refined what made the first game’s multiplayer unique — the frantic boots-on-the-ground (and walls) parkour action, and cool-as-hell giant robots dropping from orbit to beat the tar out of one another. At the time, it was difficult to find FPS games that weren’t boilerplate, modern military approximations a la Call of Duty, so Titanfall 2’s acrobatic, sci-fi spin on the genre truly felt like a breath of fresh air.

Titanfall 2 also featured a surprisingly fun and thoughtful single-player campaign. At its core, it’s a simple tale about a man and his relationship with his sentient war robot. While the story beats may not leave much of an impression, the exceptional level design certainly will. Not only is Effect and Cause one of the finest single-player FPS levels of all time, but the late game re-appearance of the Smart Pistol is also an excellent sequence and well worth your time.

5.

Apex Legends

After a secretive development process, Respawn Entertainment and EA stealth-dropped Apex Legends into players’ laps back in 2019. EA intentionally avoided promoting the game so as not to draw the ire of Titanfall fans who were expecting the third title in the series, as well as gamers who were fed up with free-to-play, live-service titles full of loot boxes.

Ultimately they didn’t have too much to worry about, as Apex was a massive success. The Titanfall developers made some interesting additions to the typical battle royale formula, like the inclusion of hero characters with special abilities and unique personalities, an easy-to-use contextual “ping” communication system that simplifies playing with randoms, and the fast-paced, arcadey gunplay that made the Titanfall games so fun. And while you may not be able to run on walls, the movement system is intuitive, snappy, and reminiscent of Apex’s predecessors. If you want a battle royale experience that skews away from the realistic and you don’t feel like playing even more Fortnite, Apex is a great place to land.

6.

Metal: Hellsinger

Metal: Hellsinger. Credit: The Outsiders.

Metal: Hellsinger is an essential shooter that takes everything we loved about Doom and amps it up to 11. In this head-banging romp from developer The Outsiders, players must shoot, reload and dodge to the beat of a star-studded metal soundtrack that features the likes of Serj Tankian and Trivium’s Matty Heafy.

As you blast through the depths of hell, you’ll dish out gratuitous violence with a host of punchy weapons including a stylish set of dual-wielded revolvers, a devastating shotgun and much more. There’s no shortage of targets for your arsenal either, with a range of bloodthirsty demons out to stop your protagonist – and fellow demon – The Outsider from reclaiming her voice from the devil.

With mod support and heaps of extra challenges thrown into the mix, Metal: Hellsinger is a brutally fun time for casual shooter fans and score-chasers alike.

7.

Call Of Duty: Warzone

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a top-notch shooter with a fun campaign and solid multiplayer offering. The shootouts are sublime and it feels great to play.

The reworked perks system and changes to the gunsmith mode show that Infinity Ward and the other developers working on Modern Warfare 2 still understand what makes Call of Duty tick, and it’s a pleasure to watch them work.

There’s a heavy blow in that none of the guns are the real deal – renamed versions that are heavily inspired by existing weapons. No fan favourite MP5 will make some wince, but it’s here under another name.

Get used to Modern Warfare 2’s garish murder playground and it will reward you with some good clean gunfights and some absolute multiplayer shenanigans.

8. DOOM Eternal

Doom Eternal. Credit: id Software

If id software’s DOOM 2016 was meant to make players feel like an unstoppable force ripping and tearing through throngs of demonic hellspawn, DOOM Eternal’s M.O. is channeling that carnage into a laser-focused flow chart of surgical death-dealing.

Series favorite weapons like the super shotgun, the chaingun, and the rocket launcher all return — but instead of being simply different means to kill demons, each weapon in DOOM Eternal is designed to be very good at one or two specific things. For example, the super shotgun can be upgraded with a grappling hook attachment to close the gap between the player and enemies, while the heavy cannon can be used to pick away at distant enemies or weak points found on bigger baddies. This “tool for every job” approach combined with the need to constantly refill health and ammo reserves through the brutal glory kill melee system and chainsaw attacks means that players will have to constantly make split-second decisions about the best way to approach each scenario. You won’t be using your favorite weapon for long stretches of time, but that’s just part of the grisly appeal.

It would be a huge oversight to talk about either of the modern DOOM games without mentioning the disgustingly heavy, djent, industrial, and thrash-inspired soundtracks found in both. Even the most benign players will have difficulty keeping their heads from banging during the tracks that exude pure violence in the games’ combat-heavy arena sections.

The combination of the frenetic gameplay, exaggerated violence, and the extremely brutal soundtrack makes DOOM Eternal a sinfully good time, and well worth the play.

The best FPS games on Android in 2023

On mobile, first-person shooters (FPS) are often centered around the player experience. Basically, it all comes down to the player satisfaction with how running and gunning measure up in each title. Clunky gameplay, poor performance, and frustrating controls just don’t cut it when it comes to the best Android games. Ideally, more mobile FPS games should include compatibility with your favorite Android gaming controllers, upscaling the quality of life for most shooters. So we’ve taken it upon ourselves to analyze and evaluate which FPS games on Android are worth your time. Let’s dive in!

Doom

One of the best controller-supported Android games, and thankfully the touch controls are no slouch either. Doom is clearly a classic, and it can be seen as the father of FPS games. Essentially, it’s the game that defined and revolutionized the entire genre. So if you’re into retro gaming and want to experience a famous classic on your Android device, the first Doom game is by far one of the best choices on the platform. The 25th-anniversary rerelease (Play Store version) includes «The Flesh Consumed» expansion, and high framerates are supported for a smooth-as-silk experience.

Call of Duty Mobile

You can’t argue that Call of Duty Mobile is leading the pack as one of the best FPS games on Android; it has reached over 500 million downloads since its release in 2019. The game is already a few years old, but it’s still going strong. In general, FPS games tend to age poorly as they tend to evolve with newer hardware, and your expectations for games begin to heighten; why dish out hundreds of dollars for a new phone for your games to play on the same graphics and have the same performance as your old phone? Call of Duty Mobile never suffered from this issue. It was already ahead of its time and has developed a massive following; you can fully expect a full-course meal for all the game modes found in Call of Duty Mobile, from zombies to battle royale, along with other modes that made it from the previous games, like team deathmatch with a ton of classic maps. It’s an all-in-one package deal, and it’s great.

To finally see Apex Legends reach mobile was super exciting; Apex Legends has always been known to provide a solid battle royale experience, from the constant addition of legends bringing more depth and strategy to the usual run, gun, and loot battle royale gameplay. Your legends offer traits and special abilities that provide an edge in a fight, but nothing too crazy that’ll skew the balance for the entire match. The movement and gameplay feel exceptionally smooth, which inherently doesn’t look too different from what you’d see on console and PC, making this a viable port to Android. Newcomers looking to get started will enjoy Apex Legends Mobile exclusives, like playing as mobile-exclusive legends you can’t find on the other versions.

PUBG Mobile

We can’t talk about PUBG Mobile and not mention the sister game, PUBG: New State. Comparatively, PUBG: New State is just as good and, in some ways, more optimized for mobile. But age and content separate PUBG Mobile from New State. New State is much newer than PUBG Mobile and still has the potential to overtake the spot that PUBG Mobile currently holds; PUBG Mobile is the veteran battle royale between the two and has a more extensive player base. PUBG is known for bringing in an intricate weapon upgrading system (New State also has weapon customization). Once New State catches up to PUBG Mobile, it’ll be even more challenging to see which game deserves the spotlight. Until then, PUBG Mobile is where most are currently playing.

Standoff 2

Closer to CS: GO style of FPS than Call of Duty. It is what CS: GO would be on mobile (unofficially). You can collect weapon skins, play single-player and multiplayer (including ranked), join clans and sell your skins in the marketplace. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, considering how CS: GO gameplay is much slower-paced than the standard arcade-style FPS, requiring a lot of patience while traversing small maps to take out your opponents. Going in full force without a plan is the fastest way to forfeit the match, which means practice is very much key to tackling Standoff 2 long term.

Dead Effect 2

Dead Effect 2 is primarily a single-player zombie FPS game that reflects the genre quite well. It eerily resembles the hit sci-fi horror Dead Space, and it doesn’t scale down on the blood and gore to set up the chilling atmosphere where players attempt to survive a zombie apocalypse. The mature hair-rising storyline makes Dead Effect 2 worth the playthrough while still offering plenty of polishing moments to feel like a console title. Luckily the first title is skippable, so you can safely jump straight into the sequel, which you’d likely consider just because it’s a sizeable upgrade from the first game.

Combat Master Mobile

Combat Master Mobile has all the successful ingredients to be a fantastic FPS game and a respectable side option for Call of Duty Mobile (one of our favorites on this list), praised for satisfying gun action and smooth movement. Unfortunately, Combat Master Mobile content is somewhat lackluster, but the core gameplay still holds up well. In addition, the game offers a few multiplayer modes like battle royale, quick play, and team deathmatch, with a few new modes during seasonal updates such as Bomb Plant and Arms Race. Overall, the resemblance with Call of Duty Mobile is a huge plus, but the much smaller map size and personalized experience make it a great game to get your thrills in for running and gunning on Android.

Critical Ops

Another wonderfully done unofficial CS: GO clone for mobile. Critical Ops receives updates seasonally, including a critical pass, thematic mini modes, limited edition skins, and frequent updates. Outside of seasonal content, there are plenty of weapon skins to earn and custom game modes to play, from team deathmatch to ranked. The game has already reached over 96 million downloads. When both the developers and community are on board to make Critical Ops a success, you know that there’s a lot of care and passion put into the game; the developers are active on their respective social media channels (such as Youtube and Reddit) and put forth updates to improve the user experience with the presence of anti-cheating tools, bug fixes, and stability patches. After all, the built-up trust between the developer and the community keeps games like this alive and thriving.

Modern Combat 5: mobile FPS

Your first stop for a highly customizable FPS experience. Modern Combat 5: mobile FPS allows you to choose between 10 classes, including styles like sniper, assault, and maurader. You can play through the campaign or jump right into pub matches. Scratching your itch with online play and PvE, events are cycled in regularly, including a battle royale mode, team deathmatch, and capture the flag. The game also has native voice chat support, giving you the option to take team play next to the level. The popularity of Modern Combat 5 means you don’t have to worry about not having enough players to keep your matchmaking feeling fresh. It also incentivizes the developers to keep up to date with this game. The quickest way for any FPS mobile game to die is when both the developers and players abandon the game, which is far from the case in Modern Combat 5: mobile FPS.

Into the Dead 2

Are you feeling a bit burnt out from the standard pub stomping PvP gameplay that other titles tend to lean towards? Into the Dead 2 focuses on the zombie apocalypse theme on a personal level; do what it takes to survive and save your family. It’s up to you to take your FPS zombie-killer skills and see if that’s enough to avoid a bad ending. Into the Dead 2 brings new story chapters, daily and special event modes, loyal canine companions that fight alongside you, and multiple endings. The best part is that you can play this game entirely offline. Access is free, with some in-game items available for purchase; it is up to you how you’ll unfold this story — will you live to see another day?

Shadowgun Legends

Shadowgun Legends is a solid game all around; it has sharp visuals, sci-fi flavoring, and plenty of PvP and PvE content. There’s something in this game for everyone, whether you’re looking for a looter shooter, co-op campaign missions, or enjoy setting up multiplayer lobbies to go up against your friends in a heated competitive match. It’s also comes with controller support, so you no longer have to opt into touch controls to get your FPS fix, either. Shadowgun Legends was clearly inspired by big hitters like Gears of War, Destiny, and Halo, which makes the game all the more appealing if you’re seeking FPS titles that stray away from the likes of Call of Duty and PUBG (in setting and gameplay).

Hitman Sniper

Now we’re headed towards the sniping mini-game territory, so if you find popping heads off to be quite satisfying — you’re going to love Hitman Sniper. It’s not the typical FPS game when it comes to pacing; you’re essentially playing a puzzle game to complete contracts, putting your tactical shooting and target prioritization to the test. And if you need to change it up, Square Enix offers a post-launch mode for zombie defense that adds another layer to the game. Hitman Sniper is currently the best entry for the sniping format, but you’ll have to pay close to a dollar to purchase the full game.

Exploring Android’s gaming gems

Playing mobile games offers its ups and downs, where you’ll encounter aggressive monetization practices, poorly optimized ports, and a lack of invested developers. But we still have gaming gems on Android to experience, and the success of these games serves as shining examples of what these titles have to offer on the platform, along with a robust player-driven experience to keep these services alive and kicking. And, of course, these games would only grow with a healthy player base, which is why we’ve highlighted only the highest-quality FPS games that deserve attention on Android. And if it so happens that you find battle royales are your preferred genre for FPS games, we also have a list of the best battle royales on Android to check out.

50 FPS games worth playing / Igrozor – Games, guides, codes and walkthroughs!

What is the best FPS game for you? And which one was the most difficult for you? How many games of this genre have you played? Let’s find out if your favorites are in today’s TOP 50 FPS games worth playing.

50.GoldenEye 007

One of the best movie-related games, GoldenEye was released during Rare’s glory years. Four-player split-screen deathmatch is legendary gameplay. GoldenEye 007 pioneered and paved the way for future console shooters, deviating from the popular corridor style and incorporating a free-roam element with varied maps. It was a fantastic shooter that quickly aged. nine0003

49. Planetside 2

Few games can match what Planetside 2 has to offer — an expansive battle through Auraxis with thousands of other players online where teamwork and skill are essential to win the war. Its free-to-play pattern is not intrusive or unwanted, and it still looks very pretty during day and night cycles.

48. Return to Castle Wolfenstein

The Wolfenstein 3D reboot featured one of the craziest single player story campaigns ever, based on the Nazi occult attempts during World War II. Built around stopping the SS Paranormal Division from resurrecting a dead Saxon warrior named Henry I, the game is full of enemy soldiers, devout occult ladies, occult ceremonies, super soldiers and zombie knights. nine0003

47. Serious Sam: Second Encounter

A relentless alien feast, Serious Sam games are pure fun. With 80s action sensibilities, time travel, and a ridiculous arsenal of weapons, it was like being in Ash Williams’ shoes, only without all the drama packed into your suitcase. Serious Sam games are by no means serious, and in the world of sharp-faced shooters, this is something to be noted.

46. Wolfenstein 3D

We associate classic id Software designers — Carmack, Romero, Hall — with Wolfenstein 3D, the widely copied, highly respected, and infinitely influential run-and-gun game through a twisted representation of World War II. BJ Blazkowicz is one of the real goofy video game heroes, and his legacy is a billion smoking bullet holes, Nazi corpses, and a robot Hitler.

45. Perfect Dark

Was Perfect Dark a great first-person shooter for the N64, or was it just a decent shooter that got improved because of the Rare brand? The main character, the turrets and the alien Elvis, definitely distinguish him from the rest. If it took a lot of guts to play the female lead in a shooter in 2000, it was downright reckless to throw in a comedic alien buddy. The addition of a customizable multiplayer mode shows the ambition here. Especially telling given that it was released in the early days of console first-person shooters, when many were trying to emulate shooters on PC. nine0003

44. Duke Nukem 3D

Duke Nukem is the main character, giving jokes at every turn. Basically, there was nothing new in Duke at the time the game was released, the same corridors, the same monsters, but the protagonist’s sparkling humor and «realistic» design (we are finally on planet earth) put Duke Nukem 3D in a special place. And where else could you play at that time for a talking character who scatters witticisms, simultaneously killing monsters in street clubs and tipping naked girls. nine0003

43. Medal of Honor: Frontline

Up until Frontline, Medal of Honor on consoles was commonplace. But with Frontline, MoH finally arrived, and it looked like the PS2 could hold its own against the ferocious first-person shooters that were coming out on PC at the time. It was a time when Medal of Honor meant something, and Call of Duty was just a contender for a shooter. How things have changed.

41. Mirror’s Edge

Mirror’s Edge is another game that has dared to experiment with the first-person formula, with mixed results. It has more to do with moving through the environment than headshots. This is both a hit and a miss. When the parkour «flows» through the level, it’s cool, but when it comes to a sudden stop, it’s like a «slap» back to the reality of the average clunky FPS. But you should definitely try it, as it is unusual and interesting, despite the lack of a vaccination action for us. nine0003

40. Unreal Tournament

Unreal Tournament focused on multiplayer battles and was positioned as a direct competitor to Quake III Arena. Unreal Tournament at that time was able to compete with it on equal terms largely due to excellent graphics, dynamic gameplay, a large number of game modes and good intelligence of computer opponents.

39. Black

Black was an attempt by Criterion to do for the FPS what Burnout did for the racer. The result was a gaming blockbuster in which you could literally smash everything around. Widespread destruction was common, and I still remember how great it was to throw a grenade through a window and watch the rest of the windows in the building shatter from the explosion. nine0003

38. Quake III

Quake III opposed Unreal Tournament when arena shooters were in vogue, and Carmack’s team developed a furious, timeless take on the concept of space combat. It still hosts tournaments, which is no small feat considering the game was released in 1999.

37. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

In short, Bullseye, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. — a complex combination of shooter and role-playing game in the radioactive wasteland left after the Chernobyl disaster. Utterly relentless and mercilessly frightening S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and the hell knows, why the hell did this Strelok surrender to you, but I don’t get into other people’s business, if you want to kill, then there’s something for . ..

36. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil

Seeds of Evil is a game so big it needed an expansion pack. The game reminds us that there were some really good FPS’s on the old Nintendo console.

35. Crysis

«Will I be able to run Crysis?». Crytek made this shooter so technically advanced that PC gamers’ main concern was to be able to run it at high settings for years. Despite its age, Crysis still looks decent. nine0003

34. Killing Floor 2

What could be better than killing zombies with your friends? Of course, kill zombies in slow motion with your friends. Killing Floor 2 is like the Zombies mode in Call of Duty, ported to a standalone game, complete with some great features and filled with gore. And it’s cool.

33. Borderlands 2

The second Borderlands was a force — a polished role-playing shooter that took many players for many months. The wasteland sci-fi on offer here has never, ever been better, and Borderlands 3 is as wild as its predecessors. nine0003

32. Destiny

The game is designed so that you sit down and start playing. Without unnecessary multi-day study of literature. The game was created for those who have a job and do not have time to play around. Just sit down and play. This is a very cool combination of Halo and Borderlands. Although there is no plot as such, the game can drag you out for a very long time.

31.SUPERHOT

Superhot is unlike any other FPS in existence. Its visual style is minimalist. In Superhot, time only moves when you move yourself. This means you can dodge bullets, grab weapons mid-air, and end every fight like you’re John Wick. And when you’re done, the level will play in real time to show how awesome you are. nine0003

30. Bulletstorm

But what if the game does not contain any particularly abstruse plot, does not have tricky words in its vocabulary, does not bring anything new to the genre? Is this project worth your attention? Not at all. Sometimes it’s enough to have dynamic gameplay and rude, but damn funny humor behind your soul.

29. Dying Light

While most of Dying Light is centered around hand-to-hand combat and parkour, gunplay takes a backseat. You didn’t live if you didn’t see a zombie fall off a roof trying to catch up with you. nine0003

28. Fallout 4

Fallout has never been a shooting game. But the 4th part, nevertheless, made a full-fledged shooter out of RPG. Gunfights in Fallout 4 are sharp and brutal, especially when it comes to ghouls.

27. Insurgency

An excellent game, after which you can safely put on a vest and go swimming in the fountain, because from such realism, your monitor will turn into a VR monitor, and headphones into locators that catch any sound. If you are looking for easy gameplay, beautiful graphics, a good community, then you are on a farm in classmates, because. this is his mother war, any rustle and you are ready to give a horn of lead to anyone you see. One bullet — one death, this is exactly what you should understand when entering this game, because. even a tiny pea gun shoots so that you think: “Is this definitely not a howitzer?”. In general, if you are looking for an interesting and exciting gameplay, then you will like this game. nine0003

26. Far Cry 2

It’s just that scorching heat pours out of the monitor onto you and it seems like it really adds a few degrees to the temperature in the room. And if the attacked outpost catches fire! No, it’s better to retreat — let everything burn out along with the trees. After all, this spectacle will impress even an avid pyromaniac. Fortunately, there is not much difference between ashes and untouched territory — the country has long been destroyed by an internal war.
Heat, Hell, poverty and devastation. Africa. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to cool down a little under a rare but powerful downpour. Well, how — lucky … He will wash you away. You can, of course, move only at night — it is also insanely beautiful, but malaria will not let you waste so much time. This game is not about story and goal achievement. The atmosphere and the process that takes place in it are important here. After all, even from a simple movement from point to point you get aesthetic pleasure. And if, in the midst of a shootout, your worn-out weapon jams and tears apart, then this generally causes puppy delight. Strange, right? No, this part is mandatory. Let not the first time, but it will certainly cause a desire to savor this world of Africa to the end. The main thing is that the ointment for burns is always there. nine0003

24. Timesplitters 2

Co-op, primates, arcade patrons, gangsters, cowboys and space marines — there’s nothing Free Radical Design is afraid to throw at TimeSplitters.

23. Arma 2

ARMA 2 is not only the game that spawned DayZ, but also a hardcore shooter. ARMA 2 simulates muzzle velocity, ballistics, range and other concepts using an arsenal of realistically modeled weapons. nine0003

21. Prey

Prey (2017) completely satisfied my need to «go through something really heartfelt and interesting». Feels like I went back in time for 20 years, and went through something cult, like Half-Life, System Shock 2 or Deus Ex (oddly enough, Prey has borrowings from all these games), but because of of high difficulty, many can pass the game sideways. nine0003

20. Deus Ex Human Revolution

Everything from the bold, angular, black and gold art style to the freedom to choose makes Human Revolution such a memorable game. Human Revolution is a shooter for thinking people where shooting is usually the last way to complete the game.

19. F.E.A.R.

Even after the amount of time that has passed, F.E.A.R. will pull your nerves as you progress through and even after so many years, the game still has something for which it is loved: Artificial Intelligence and intense firefights, the supremacy of which was achieved through level design, weapon balance, among which I personally did not observe a completely useless barrel. Buy and enjoy the flying bodies of enemies from your slowmo kick. nine0003

18. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

While we’re all exhausted by the current battle royale craze, there’s no doubt that PUBG has captured the zeitgeist. People are tired of the same shooting games, and PUBG has changed the pace, offering a shooter in which taking cover and surviving works just as much as running and killing everyone.

17. Halo: Combat Evolved

Halo: Combat Evolved is a truly iconic first-person shooter game and the de facto progenitor of console shooters. It was this game that showed us how varied the gameplay should be. It was this game that first showed how smart opponents must be. It was this game that showed us the universe, which we want to get to know as deeply as possible. And it was with this game that I began my acquaintance with the Halo series of games, although it was almost fleeting and my full-fledged acquaintance began with the second part. Therefore, let’s all get to know Halo: CE fully together, but in an updated form called Anniversary. nine0003

15. Metro 2033 Redux

Everyone reaps what they sow, Artem. Violence breeds violence, and death is paid for with death. Those who have no doubts and no remorse will never break out of this circle. Metro 2033 Redux definitely deserves everyone’s attention, this story will definitely touch your soul and you will be inspired by it.

14. Team Fortress 2
