«Gothic». Or at least a clone of Risen on a new engine. wanted
believe that the living world will return, an exciting role-playing system with teachers,
captivating freedom. I really wanted to, but, to be honest, no one believed even then.
Blind faith in Innos or anyone else there does not help such misunderstandings as Arcania: Gothic 4 .
Before us is a miserable echo of the former glory of «Gothic», and it is not much different from what
what we saw a month and a half ago.

During dialogues, there are only three angles. This one is the most popular.

Nowhere,
Of course, all the simplifications and conventions have not gone away. Unique pumping system
within which the masters taught special perks while you shoes them with your tongue
cleaned, remember? Forget immediately. Complex non-linear quest chains?
As it never happened. Detailed world? This is also not here: the engine of the «Arkania» is decent,
but around — the ocean and Christmas trees. The combat system is even weirder. Spellbound based on
frankly unsuccessful third part, where the fights were an arcade
mini-game «hold the button and poke the blade in the stomach.» And for some reason they added to it completely
rogue rolls: thanks to them, you, tumbling wildly, gore anyone
big man. Finally, the most powerful and brazen blow to the fans is the change of the main
hero: the unnamed protagonist of the original trilogy came to success,
king, contacted the dark forces, went crazy and now convincingly
portrays the villain. And the world is saved by a fresh shepherd in bast shoes. Wonderful.

If you still remember the special skills trained in Morrowind «archer survival on a high ground in a buggy RPG world», then you will not be lost in Arcania.

don’t forget that «Gothic 4» is still not a casual-console RPG in a normal
understanding of this term. This is a casual-console RPG in the view of the developers,
whose experience with consoles, if anyone is not in the know, is limited to the Nintendo DS port of the classic
platformer Giana Sisters 1987.
The complexity of the situation lies in the fact that Gothic originally refers
to the difficult and in many ways mysterious genre “a crooked German game that is so
these Russians like it.» The plans of the publishing house JoWooD were to acquaint
with the phenomenon of a twisted but charming German RPG Western Europe,
USA, and most importantly — the console audience. So, the authors of «Arkania» are unaware that RPG on computers
are scales and numbers, and RPG on consoles is a fairy tale and breath
adventure. They took the worst of both approaches, naively believing that «on these
your consoles» is when everything is the same, only smaller, simpler, worse and with
cretin management. They haven’t seen the wonderful video game Fable either:
if we radically change direction, then the landmarks should be selected
worthy.

like this: “Gothic 4” is twelve hours of running around the world, where there is nothing to do, from
one template blockhead to another. These are endless mail quests. This
a plot that activates only forty minutes before the finale. None of the bright
character for the entire game, but masterpiece dialogues: «Hello, I killed everyone, bye.»
It is interesting to play for only one reason: you want to see how far
all this idiocy will go. If you laugh — that’s it.

As for
glitches and bugs, partly because of which we postponed the final verdict, here Arcania diligently
adopts the experience of the entire series. It is commendable in a sense, although they did not disappoint here.
There will be a black screen, and getting stuck in stones, and characters who, during
conversations look the other way. Here’s how lucky. Slows down the new «Gothic»,
of course, almost everyone. Taking this opportunity, we also looked at the Xbox 360 version — everything is there
the same thing minus crashes in Windows, it’s good to fly out as if
nowhere. You can, of course, wait for the PS3 version (when it
appear, unknown). And given the complexity of working with the PS3 architecture, you can
a significant degree of probability to say: it will be even more fun to play.

TRANSFER: In localization
«Akella» dozens of actors boringly mumbling into the microphone — this cannot be taken away. But,
firstly, in the original version, everything is not much better, and secondly, to the text
there are almost no complaints, thirdly, these actors are not as jaded as they usually are
with game translations.

Everything is in the best traditions of the series, the best traditions of the genre. Extensive quests, a lively and beautiful open world, characters are visible and invisible. There are a lot of gameplay changes, but the basic mechanics of development and the very process of the game remained untouched, and it was for this reason that we were waiting for the fourth part.
